“I might.” Barty said with a vague shrug. “I’m getting her some owl treats and ordering a new cage… Why are you here?” Barty had nearly forgotten that Logan knew his owl’s name. “Christmas?” He ventured a guess. Logan seemed like the type to buy every person he had ever met in his life a Christmas present.

Logan nodded in confirmation. “I got my parents things, but I realized I’d forgotten Luca. That wouldn’t go over too terribly, well, I don’t think.”

Barty really couldn’t say how long he had been at Malfoy Manor. It might have been a few hours. It could have been a few years. Time was frozen while he was there. (Though, time was such a silly thing. A measurement from one event to the next. A measurement of life. Eighteen years.) It wasn’t like it mattered. It wasn’t like anything at all mattered. Not anymore. Not ever. None of it was real.

On rare occasions, Barty ate or slept. He was usually supervised by Narcissa while eating, who had quickly realized he’d forget to eat. Sleep was short and plagued by either nightmares or unusual dreams. He’d wake up, and for a few moments he’d forget what had happened. Then he’d remember that Regulus had died, and the heart ache, the pain, the emptiness would renew itself once more. Missing him was simply too weak of a phrase for it.

It took Barty several moments to realize that he had actually heard someone calling, and that he should probably get up and go see what it was. Barty considered pretending to be asleep, but eventually convinced himself to get up. “What do you want?” Barty asked, his voice speaking soft Italian. English. Right. He was talking to Logan. It took him a second to switch his thoughts back into English. “Yes? Why are you here?” Barty glanced at Logan. Barty looked exhausted, pale, and like he needed his best friend back.

Logan’s breath caught in his throat as he spotted Barty. He wasn’t sure what he’d expected, exactly, but Barty looked downright awful. “I came to check on you,” he said, going to Barty’s side. He reached out tentatively, placing his hand on the other’s shoulder. “I wanted to see how you were doing, to see if there was anything I could do to help you.” He could only imagine how raw Barty felt right then, the weeks after Elizabeth’s death had been a rage-filled and broken time for himself - he didn’t want anyone to be suffering like he had.

“Isn’t that the point? You learn from them?”

Logan didn’t care if Malfoy Manor was somewhere he really wasn’t welcome - he needed to check on Barty. He’d tried to reach him by owl but hadn’t gotten a response. He cared about the other - counted him as family, even - and Barty’s best friend had just died. Honestly, Logan had taken far too long to go to the Manor, worried he’d get caught there. He picked a time that seemed most likely for Lucius and Narcissa to both be out and went, looking for Barty when he arrived. “Barty?” he called softly, not sure where to start looking, other than maybe the library, though he wasn’t sure the other would be in the mood for studying even.

“Not at all? I didn’t realize that. Do you want coffee or tea, though?”

“Oh well that sounds like it’ll be fun. Do you have a team you want to win?”

“It’d be quick, and not a problem.” Barty sighed. Talking to Logan wasn’t among his favorite activities, but if he didn’t do it Logan would question him, and that would be even worse. “I needed some new quills, and Hero deserves a nice Christmas.”

“I’m convinced you love that owl more than you love anyone or anything else,” he said with a smile. The thought made him happy, though he couldn’t say why. “What did you get her?”

“My shrink would call you wrong,” he said flatly.

“No, it’s not. I hadn’t planned on bumping my way into yours..” She laughed with him. “But not all witches and wizards appreciate his work of art. After all, he’s what you guys called as Muggle.”

“‘You guys.’ You sound like a muggle yourself. Blood status is silly to me. There are plenty of great witches and wizards that are halfbloof or muggleborn.”

“Sounds logical enough to me, I suppose.”

OKAY SO. I’m the worst, full stop. But I’m about to do the... twenty replies I owe. I know they’re all from like three weeks ago (because I’m the worst) so if you want to drop them, feel free! I’ll probably just get replies done today then in my seven hour break between classes tomorrow I’ll look at the starters!

All I ever learned was cruelty, malice, spite. Or at least that’s all you’ve ever thought of me anyway.”

“Then I don’t know what your shady sister did to get you out. Someone’s playing dirty, someone that’s batting for your team. I don’t know how they managed to do it.” Logan laughed bitterly at Amycus’ proclamation. “If that’s what you thought of my opinion of you, Amycus, you’re wrong. I gave you a chance. You decided I was a blood traitor, and that I wasn’t worth your time.”

“Well, I suppose that’s fair. My Christmas miracle isn’t going to happen so I can donate to the cause.”

“More likely a good guess.” Alecto took another nip on her Sugar Quill followed with a grin appearing on her features. Another cover story. “Although, I have to confessed that I had bumped into you a few years ago back in Diagon Alley.” She bites back a chuckle. “Nothing. But, I didn’t expect someone here to know about him, though.”

“Well, that’s cheating!” he said with a laugh. “Poe’s a great author. I bet tons of witches and wizards know about him. More than you’d expect, at least.”
