like I don't even identify as transmasc anymore (is complicated) but back when i did, i would be so scared to come out as a trans man instead of nb because it would get me pushed out of friend groups and killed by my parents (which all eventually happened when the dam burst)

straight people will try to call themselves allies but make no attempt to learn any labels beyond transgender

remember you don't need to water down your sexuality or gender identity for anyone. there are so many labels, even someone queer like myself couldnt know all of them, but actively learning, being respectful & supportive, is the best approach. you don't need to fully understand a culture to respect and support someone's right to have it, so why is that not the same for this community

i used do my best to oversimplify my identity when explaining it to people i considered close friends- if they didn't understand, fine, but they could at least try to learn. it surprised me how many of them chose to completely ignore what i told them was, literally, a part of me

you don't need to tone it down to make them understand. you deserve respect & love <3
