I finally managed to get my hands on One Piece: Loguetown Arc (One Piece novel Loguetown), the official Oda-approved novel written in 2000 by Tatsuya Hamazaki that retells the events of Loguetown with the addition of Oda’s intended story elements for the arc (if you recall, he had to cut things from Loguetown because he wanted the crew to enter the Grand Line in chapter 100).

This novel has some truly great ZoTash moments, as it delves deeper into the characters’ thoughts and memories, more than the manga and anime do. It really surprised me in a few places.

So, without further ado, here’s my translation of what I think are the most interesting parts.

Punk Hazard is one of my favorite arcs, not only because of the fact that from this arc, Oda starts to line up all the successive arcs: Dressrosa, Zou, Whoke Cake, Wano and even EGG HEAD.

Finally, a dreaded pirate landlord and a katana maniac enter the scene, the points I liked the most about their interaction in PH:

° From the first moment Zoro hears the screams of the marines, upon hearing his name, he realizes who is the person that Law hurt, and obviously he cares-otherwise Oda wouldn't take care to reflect her face in the panel-and that "What has she done", was an OWWWWWW, He's watching her.

° The moment of their meeting, was like giving lucidity to the great abyss of their belonging, one is a marine and the other a pirate, but the thing is that Zoro, realizes that Tashigi moved up in rank >.<, and their nicknames are still there <3. I DON'T BELIEVE EVEN ONCE THEY BOTH HAVE BEEN NAMED BY THEIR NAMES.

° Tashigi's desperation at seeing the sacrifice of the G-5, Zoro realizing that she has become a Loyal captain, which her subordinates are capable of sacrificing themselves for her, -something Zoro himself tried to do once to save Luffy in TB-.

° Tashigi wanting to cooperate with Zoro, despite not knowing exactly why he acted that way in Loguetown.

° Their interactions in the fight against Monet is one of my favorites, Zoro and Tashigi, going from being a dog and cat fighting over who gets the first punch, -trope of husband and wife fighting in a married couples feud-.

° Zoro being a weak man before the traits of a lovely woman, and a Zoro worried about the way the fight is escalating.

° Zoro wanted to finish with Monet once and for all after witnessing her attack against Tashigi, and he was upset that she hurt her, so Monet herself admits that she left which made him want to kill her.

° Zoro is not a man without feelings, he knew that that blow was Tashigi's, he simply wanted to give them both the satisfaction of showing her that he can cut anything, including women, watch what he says to Monet: "There are things that I really don't like to cut", in Tashigi's presence. For me, Tashigi enters in those things that Roronoa Zoro refuses to cut.

° Zoro trying to keep the composure of the vile pirate, giving her a new nickname "Marine Woman" xD

° A super worried Zoro to see Tashigi locked in the Snowstorm (I wonder when we will see this expression on Tashigi, worried about Zoro).

° Oda putting the same flowers next to Zoro on the cover of this chapter, same flowers same color, that Tashigi has. And in the anime it is the same.

° One thing I've learned from the romantic tropes of anime-manga, is that a man in love will always call the girl he loves and likes Molesta. Live example Vegeta with Bulma, Sasuke with Sakura, Kou with Tanaka.

Zoro: "you're annoying" <3

° Well I like the rough and maniacal Zoro for the new Katana doctrines, and a Tashigi being invaded by a sexy smoker.

THIS PANEL IS MY FAVORITE… Oda didn't have to make them so close and give him a big space just to show an "irritated" Zoro, taken to an embarrassed girl. :)

° A sign that Sanji knows that Zoro is not a vile pirate, and this reminds me of the Loguetown Novel, where Sanji, states that he was jealous that a lazy brute like Zoro had a strong connection with a pretty girl - Tashigi - and here he states that Tashigi will be in good hands and telling Tashigi's sudbordinates that the man has a soft side. In conclusion, Sanji can understand a little bit Zoro's attitude towards Tashigi.

Tashigi being very close to making the dreaded Pirate Hunter, Roronoa Zoro, lose his composure and open his heart.

Thanks to Zotash, he has translated the Loguetown novel parts of the interactions between Zoro and Tashigi. Which are the last quotes. Thanks to her we have the notion of these beautiful sentences.

A SLIGHTLY ROMANTIC DISCUSSION OF FUTURE HUSBANDS

One Piece School- Zoro y Tashigi-

Este nuevo capítulo nos dejó muchos datos Zotash, lo mas lindo para mi fueron dos cosas:

Zoro super nervioso por la cercanía de Tashigi hacia él, hasta que se dijo asimismo que ella estaba muy cerca de su cara (según traducciones). Se nota que el autor quiso dejar en claro, que Zoro se pone nervioso con Tashigi. Tal como actua un hombre enamorado.

JAJAJAJA, ella se da cuenta de su nerviosismo. 

Tashigi queriendo tocar a Wado -en realidad no se que dicen en estas partes, pero creo que Tashigi insiste en que Wado, de las espadas de Zoro es su preferida- 

Este panel es muy lindo, enfoca la mano de Tashigi en Wado, y para mi fue muy significativo, porque se ve que Tashigi en realidad si quiere proteger las espadas, y más como lo hacen ver en estos capítulos, siente una conexion con Zoro y sus espadas, en especial Wado. 

El momento en que se alistan para pelear juntos, y lo emocionado que se ve Zoro con eso. 

En los últimos paneles, nos damos cuenta que Zoro decidió permanecer al lado de Tashigi, no se fue hasta que escuchó los regaños y desmotivaciones de Smoker hacia Tashigi. 

Se nota que él la está animando a hacerse más fuerte. Es lindo lo conectado que pueden estar el uno hacia el otro.

ZORO AND SWORD+TASHIGI

I like the nice connection Zoro has with his swords, he is always very attentive and caring for them.

But his favorite sword is the Wado Ichimoji, for too many reasons, even the most significant one: the promise he made to his Best Friend: Kuina.

This chapter was very nice, because of the memories of the past, -overriding the fact that I liked much more the animation of 23 years ago than this one-, even so, it was nice to see that at the moment Zoro takes Sandai Kiketsu, he immediately remembers Tashigi's voice.

What called my attention the most, is that Emma still recognizes Oden's favorite song, through Hiyori's instrument, and that makes me think that the swords have a soul…. Because if we go to manga 97 of One Piece, Tashigi makes a very trivial statement, and it is that "The swords are crying", and seeing Emma as she reacts to the melody that Hiyori plays, it is because she recognizes that sound.

I guess we still have a long way to go to know the world of swords and their meaning, although I think Tashigi's dream has a lot to do with that.

Another thing I noticed is that in the One Piece: School manga, released on February 17th of this year, there are some panels where Tashigi wants to touch the sword Ichimoji, in the first instance, Zoro notices her approach and gets nervous, so he takes it… but then he turns to see her looking to touch Wado, which for me is a very significant panel: the simple fact is that Wado is Zoro's most precious object and symbolizes Zoro. It shows that Tashigi really does want to protect the swords, and more as they make it look in these chapters, she feels a connection with Zoro and his swords, especially Wado, maybe the symbolism is that she wants to get much closer to Zoro and get to know him and his past.

I DON'T KNOW BUT EVEN SO, WE'VE HAD A LOT OF LITTLE ZOTASH THINGS, AND THAT MAKES ME HAPPY.

ZOTASH

Tashigi y Zoro, dos espadachines de ideologías y lealtades diferentes, desde sus primeros encuentros se mantuvieron ajenos del uno hacia el otro, por la intensa rivalidad que ha persistido a lo largo de sus creencias. Tashigi, un marine, que se enorgullece de su inquebrantable sentido de la justicia, mientras que Zoro, un pirata, que a pesar de todo valora la libertad y sus promesas. A pesar de sus diferencias, sus habilidades con la espada los hacen cruzarse más de una vez en un mar tan inmenso como lo es el nuevo mundo.

En su último encuentro, Tashigi y Zoro se encuentran en un acalorado enfrentamiento. Ambos decididos a salir victoriosos, se enzarzan en una feroz lucha de espadas que dura horas. A medida que avanza el enfrentamiento, se hace evidente que su rivalidad no sólo se debe a sus diferencias de lealtad, sino también al respeto mutuo por las habilidades del otro, más que un encuentro entre dos corazones que danzan al mismo ritmo, al par de un sentir que llega a nublar sus juicios.

A medida que la batalla llega a su fin, Tashigi y Zoro se miran, golpeados y exhaustos. En un momento de incertidumbre, comparten sus sentimientos, y logran confesar que detrás de su rivalidad existe una profunda atracción que ambos han negado desde su primer encuentro en Loguetown.

A pesar de las posibles consecuencias de su relación, Tashigi y Zoro deciden seguir adelante con lo que sienten el uno por el otro. Reconocen que sus lealtades pueden impedirles estar juntos abiertamente, pero se niegan a que eso les impida explorar su conexión.

El amor que sienten el uno por el otro no hace más que intensificar su rivalidad a medida que se cruzan en sus caminos, cada uno compitiendo por superar al otro tanto en la batalla como en el amor.

Pero con cada encuentro, también se encuentran cada vez más cerca, aprendiendo a confiar el uno en el otro de formas que nunca pensaron posibles.

La historia de amor de Tashigi y Zoro es un testimonio del poder de la atracción, incluso frente a diferencias aparentemente insuperables. Su viaje nos recuerda que, a veces, las cosas que nos dividen también pueden unirnos de forma inesperada.

ONE PIECE 1060

Why did the navy want to go and invade Shimotsuki Village? Why was Kuina's grandfather waiting for their arrival? Who was the founding pirate of the village? Kuina's grandfather himself, Koshiburo Shitmosuki?

Did Kuina's father have anything to do with his sudden death? Why did Kuina's father abhor the idea of his daughter becoming strong? Why does Zoro claim screaming that Kuina is running away from his promise and him? And, is Kuina actually dead or is it that both her Grandfather and her are kept hidden from the Navy herself? Can Tashigi be Kuina after all?

This was a beautiful chapter, but once again, as is the beginning of One Piece, it leaves me with a dozen unanswered questions.

THE BEAUTIFUL CONNECTION OF KUINA AND ZORO IS UNMATCHED.

I still don't understand why it seems to me that Tashigi and Kuina's relationship is more instructive and mysterious than it seems, this chapter gave me a light that maybe Kuina is not dead, and no, I don't want her to be Tashigi, Tashigi belongs to another sword clan.

But if Kuina is alive, I don't think it would take away Zoro's importance as a character, it would give him more depth, after all, their promise is that one of them will become the best swordsman in the world, in a duel that they both have to participate, that's why Zoro shouts to a fallen Kuina "Why are you running away, Kuina".

I have many things that can be linked to this and one of them is the connection of the Revolutionary army with the Shimotsuki Clan.

Anyway, we just have to wait and see what Oda has in store for us and all this mystery.

Why Tashigi Deserves More Respect

I really gotta remember these other things I plan on writing XD Often I get reminded though by people around me criticizing something I realise ‘that’s a little misunderstood’ and then get compelled to write about it. For today we’re looking at the female Marine of One Piece, Tashigi. Now before we start, I want to make a point that Tashigi is still an underused character brimming with potential that Oda seems to shy a lot from. Oda can still sincerely do a lot more with her and I for one have been disappointed by her lack of use in Stampede and lack of appearance in Wano. However, I get a lot of people who feel that Tashigi is ‘useless’, and I’m going to say that this isn’t really the case.
