Happy Perfect Date Day!
My god I wish more people understood this.
“We didn’t have all this autism when I was a kid”
Yea, you had changelings and demonic possession and “brats” and “back talk”, and kids that were “not all there”, your aunt who’s “crazy”, and your second cousin no one ever talks about cuz he’s “special”, and if you’re fucking lucky, your elder uncle who lives a nice quiet life with his 70 lego sets and writes grocery stores about changing the light bulbs cuz they’re too harsh.
not to put this user on blast, but ohmygod this may be the funniest thing i’ve ever seen 😭😭
Black panther poster. Just as relevant today
IF YOU'RE UNEMPLOYED IT'S NOT BECAUSE THERE ISN'T ANY WORK JUST LOOK AROUND: A HOUSING SHORTAGE, CRIME. POLLUTION; WE NEED BETTER SCHOOLS AND PARKS. WHATEVER OUR NEEDS, THEY ALL REQUIRE WORK. AND AS LONG AS WE HAVE UNSATISFIED NEEDS, THERE IS WORK TO BE DONE. ASK YOURSELF, WHAT KINDS OF A WORLD HAS WORK BUT NO JOBS? IT'S A WORLD WERE WORK IS NOT RELATED TO SATISFYING OUR NEEDS, A WORLD WHERE WORK IS ONLY RELATED TO SAT- ISFYING THE PROFIT NEEDS OF BUSINESS.
THIS COUNTRY WAS NOT BUILT BY THE HUGE CORPORATIONS OR G6OVERNMENT BUREAUCRACIES. WAS BUILT BY PEOPLE WHO WORK. AND, IS WORKING PEOPLE WHO SHOULD CONTROL THE WORK TO BE DONE. YET, AS LONG AS EMPLOYMENT IS TIED TO SOMEBODY ELSE'S PR0FITS, THE WORK WON'T GET DONE.
a fun thing that happens during this process is you'll have these private companies hire the ejected government employees who are experts in their respective field. the private company will then contract with the government to replace the lost function or service
so you have the exact same people doing the exact same labor but now you have a CEO/board of directors and a shit ton of other overhead costs in addition to the base cost of labor. This means the amount of services per tax payer dollar falls drastically. All in the name of "efficiency" and "lowering costs"
BREAK UP THE MONOPOLIES
Here’s the opposite story, though. With apologies because I don’t have the book in front of me, so I may get some details wrong, but I read this “Irena’s Children“ by Tilar J. Mazzeo.
Irena lived in Warsaw during the Nazi occupation, and dedicated her life to rescuing Jewish children from the Ghetto, and her story is complicated in a lot of ways but - well, this story isn’t actually about Irena, per se.
It’s about a bus driver.
It’s about a day when she’s traveling across town by bus with a very young Jewish child, and partway to their destination the child looks up and asks a question - in Yiddish. and the whole bus goes quiet, because everyone knows what that means. And Irena thinks, okay, we’re going to die here today.
And she’s running through her options - all of them bad - and suddenly the bus stops, and the bus driver announces that there’s been a mechanical failure and the bus needs to return to the depot immediately. Everyone off, please.
And she stands and goes to get off the bus and the driver says - not you two. Sit down. So she sits down as everyone else leaves, because, well, what else is she going to do? the options are all still bad, at this point.
and when the bus is empty the bus driver says,
“Where do you need to go?”
And then he drives them as close to their destination as he can, and lets them off, and drives away. And Irena lives, and the kid lives, and they never cross paths again.
So a janitor got three people killed, and a bus driver saved two lives - not to mention all the other lives indirectly saved because Irena was able to continue her work.
I think about that almost every day now, to be honest.
We can’t all be Irena. I couldn’t be Irena. She was in a unique place with very specific skills and connections that let her do what she did. I am just one mentally ill librarian. I can’t be her. But - I can be the bus driver. Or I could be the janitor. Because it doesn’t matter what your job is. It doesn’t matter who you are. In a world like this, every single one of us has the opportunity to do massive harm or massive good. We can save lives or end them.
And that’s scary. but it’s also very comforting? at least for me. Because at the end of the day it means this: no matter of how small and helpless and unimportant you feel, you’re never powerless in the face of great evil.
You can choose to be the bus driver.
This feels extremely relevant these days, and on this post in particular.
Woman murders man in broad daylight
Always reblog this queen of burns the dude didn't even realise happened
So within two days of each other, Fox News writes an article comparing aromanticism and asexuality to pedophilia, and then Matt Walsh releases a video saying asexuality is a mental illness and asexuals are tricking teenagers into having depression.
Not sure what’s going on right now over in Conservative World, but it’s a hell of wild U-turn for them to suddenly switch from “Oh no! The left is sexualizing our children!” to “Oh no! The left is asexualizing our children!”
It’s a reminder, I guess, that they’re coming for all of us. The fash and the white supremacists will not make nice distinctions between the queers when they put us up against the wall. There is no gatekeeping, no label-policing, no purity-purging and no assimilation that any of us can do that will save us. They want us dead, and while they’ll start with whoever is most vulnerable at any given time, they’ll get around to all of us eventually.
Queer solidarity means all of us because the fash are coming for all of us.
All Dividers are Feds. Stand united or die separately.
ANYONE who is trying to divide our community is a fucking Fed. That includes other queers who like to argue about who is and isn’t “allowed” in our community.
An actual news source:
This April, Baltimore saw five homicides.
Five homicides?! All month?! Inconceivable!
For reference, 20 or so years ago (when I lived there), the local weekly free city paper had a police-blotter-style column recording details of who was killed, where, and with what (guns topped the list, but knives were pretty close behind). They occasionally reported five homicides a day, and generally averaged two to three a day. This reduction deserves to be in the history books.
The Good Place (2016-2020)
brah
The Good Place’s take on morality is so important to me. It never suggests that being good is easy or straightforward - quite the opposite - but it says, over and over again, that we need to try because we’re all people and we all matter.
have I yelled enough by this point that Good Place is one of the best shows of past decade period
It's called price gouging. It is illegal!!
Netanyahu and his entire regime need to face trial in The Hague. They are genocidal murderers.
'Actual service' is the expectation.
just sayin'
This should be taught in school.
there's a reason this ISNT taught in school. it's because they want you to believe that your struggles are your fault and not the fault of the ruling class hoarding all the wealth
watch PearlMania500's response, that guy gets supply chain. I work in supply chain and that is exactly what everyone should be thinking about
But no, most people don't even know how their food gets to the grocery store
and like sure we could make the things in america but that involves refurbishing old factories (and buying the equipment form overseas cause the factories aren't running yet) or building new factories and gathering the resources (which means new mines and oil wells which all are gonna cost more cause the factories to support that locally aren't build yet) and paying the people who do all that and the people who make the actual thing significantly more because nobody in america can afford to do it as cheaply because anybody who is gonna take a job that won't give them enough money to live is gonna die, that is just how it works.
