Dr. London Smith (.com) will be taking us through a range of medical topics and expanding on how to incorporate our modern understanding of science and medicine into our daily lives.
Not so boring!
If you are the biggest problem in your life, you're doing something wrong.
Look beyond yourself.
When School Is Over
Things to make sure I do at least once a year after I get out of school (in about 83,937,492,749,374,938,294,749,383,933 years):
Read biographies People watch Read poetry Write poetry Travel to a different country and make time to sit in a coffeeshop and engage in the previous activities listed. Write music (even if it's bad) Meet new people (because people are what make life interesting)
I have successfully transformed my room into a full-blown blanket fort. It'll be quite a feat to roll out of bed in the morning.
Valentine's Day
Most single people hate Valentine's Day. The most pathetic of such people refer to it as "Single Awareness Day" and we all become intimately aware of why they are still single. I see it as a prime opportunity. There are only so many times a year when it's not seen as a social no-no to give homemade presents and chocolate to a few single women. The best thing about Valentine's Day is that you don't need a real girlfriend, 'cause the single ladies are more than willing to pretend to be your girlfriend for the day.
Ladies?
True Story
When I had braces put on my teeth, I asked my dentist for headgear. He informed me that, unfortunately, they don't make headgear for the type of braces I would be wearing. I was heartbroken.
Staring Off Into Space
Occasionally, I'll catch myself staring "off into space" at something unpleasant, like unclipped toenails or my unkept room. Or weird, like my roommate's slumber. Then I begin to think, "What if someone else is somehow seeing the world through my eyes right now?"
And I see what I'm looking at as a picture that someone else could be looking into, and decide to look at something else because I wouldn't want someone who gets a chance to look at the world through my eyes to have to see that.
It should be a privilege to see what I see.
Resolution
Be more for people and expect nothing in return.
The Effect
If I like a girl, I feel as awkward as I normally make everyone else feel. In other words, I get a taste of my own medicine.
Self-Censorship
In my time growing up, I was taught never to say a swear (or cuss). To this day, I don't swear, largely because it carries a stereotype depending on what crowd you're with, and also because even if I only say it in private, having it in my vocabulary gives it potential to be blurted out at a bad time, like when I'm around children.
Sometimes, I hear people say, "Why bother saying 'f-word'? You know we all think of the real word when you say that."
My response to that was that, in fact, I don't even swear in my head. The f-word, the a-word, the b-word, the b-word-stard, and the s-word all translate in my mind into the same phonetic spellings I have written here. If someone swears at me, my brain races to censor it.

The Meaning of Words
Sometimes, I'm convinced that in daily conversation, words mean nothing, so I'll do one of a few things:
I slur my speech a lot,
Mispronounce words as much as possible,
I'll start talking and finish with emphasizing tones and hand gestures,
Or I'll start and finish using only emphasizing tones and hand gestures.
(But words mean something; people just don't use them correctly.)
