I feel like the United States has gotten so mind blowingly BAD, feeling less like a country and more like a funhouse reflection of a country that the flaws of other countries, namely European ones are being overlooked because well at least theyre doing better than the US. Thats not good enough for me. These little bitches are enabling all sorts of heinous shit and getting away with it
I try not to fall into the "I never liked their work anyway" ditch when an artist/creator reveals themself to be a terrible person
BUT
a feeling I do have and will stand by is "While I enjoyed their work overall I did have some gripes that I overlooked out of affection and whimsy, but now that my loyalty is gone and my affection tainted there is nothing holding me back from enumerating my many grievances, to which the revelations of the creator's shittiness may or may not provide a new and infuriating context."
if theres one thing that really pissed me off from my 3 years of architecture i took in high school it's learning about how we used to have all these little techniques to maximize or minimize heat or warmth and now we just merrily abandoned all those to have the same copypaste style buildings everywhere that are often INCREDIBLY unoptimized to the local weather and climate so we can just throw more money at our heating and cooling bills
where i live it is hot as balls approximately 80% of the year. i do not want a massive butt-ugly grey mcmansion with a huge echoey open-concept kitchen-livingroom-foyer-diningroom-staircase that has huge windows so i can have an hvac unit the size of a barge heaving and straining to keep it at a constant 72 the grees. i want a north indian traditional style home with small windows to force the airflow to cool, decorative grates to limit the amount of sunlight, and a COURTYARD with a POND *smashes unspecified large object*
I hate learning about instances of "oh yeah we know how to do that, we just don't".
this is exactly why I love talking about historical passive heating and cooling techniques

while the Victorian house museum where I work, with thick walls and small windows and big wooden shutters stays ~10 degrees above (winter) or below (summer) the outside temperature for days on end with no help at all?

in case anyone's wondering, the maximum ssi amount in 2026 is $993 a month. they cut that if you get any other money from any other source at all. like, if someone tries to give you money for christmas presents or you try to do some work for uber so you can save up for something, ssi will take it out of your monthly amount so you basically never go over $993. they really, really hate us.
you very famously cannot marry if youre disabled and on ssi in america bc then you and your spouses income are counted as one income and any income over 993$ will result in you getting kicked off of ssi and youll likely be forced to repay every cent of ssi you ever received
Meanwhile congress is saying they need insider stock trading to line their pockets because their $174,000+ salaries aren’t enough to provide for their families…. 😒

benny feldman's the man who gave us 'it's just a joke dude. and the joke is just rooted in ideas. that i'm enforcing' and also 'it's just a joke dude. it's just one of the most digestible and powerful forms of persuasive rhetoric my guy'. he posts a lot of his one-liner sets online. he's a very good person to check on occasionally if you're interested in the philosophy of humour.

Don’t get me wrong, there have been times that I have seen the difficult but rewarding path and gone down it. Sometimes even to the end. But there’s other times that I look at realistically how long it would take to learn something and I’m like you know what. The road more traveled probably has less poison ivy on it.

I hate the push that you can quit addictions by pure willpower because it perpetuates the idea that people who can't have committed a moral failing of some kind. We all may know some people who did quit an addiction cold turkey, and with no aid, you may be one of them. And that's fantastic, but it is not the norm. It is more than okay to need help to quit an addiction. Relapse is also part of the process. Many people relapse several times before they are able to quit for good. Let's have compassion.
not only that but depending on the substance quitting cold turkey can kill you
ALCOHOL. It’s a very common dependence and cold turkey CAN KILL YOU. A lot of people don’t know this. Doctors can literally prescribe beer in the ER to save a life.

I'm a freak I actually really like vegetables
Like I'll see someone cooking a juicy steak and I think, that looks delicious! But you know what would make it better? Vegetables. Sauteed broccoli or brussel sprouts or green beans or whatever in garlic butter, roast potato, salad. So much could be added.

Supposedly the reason eating spicy foods give you a sort of high is because the pain triggers your brain to flood with endorphins. But then how come other pain, even something far worse, or a similar type of pain as caused by chilli, does not cause this effect?
As far as what I'm finding so far, it seems to be something to do with a reaction from capsaicin specifically. I'll hopefully remember to look more into it in the morning
