Alhaitham referring to kaveh in ways which acknowledge his skill, and kaveh perceiving it as sarcasm, even though alhaitham refers to kaveh in the same ways when kaveh isn’t present is driving me a little bit insane - especially what this prompts the player to question!!
When we first meet kaveh in the archon quest the relationship between him and alhaitham is presented to us as “terrible” (courtesy of npc geoff who introduces kaveh’s return to sumeru city), and the cutscene in the house of daena demonstrates what this entails, being that the two cannot see eye to eye, and, seemingly don’t hold each other in high regard.
Alhaitham seemingly refers to kaveh’s genius in a sarcastic light and kaveh claims to despise talking to alhaitham because of his arrogance.
Looking to kaveh’s hangout, however, when the player has a one-on-one with alhaitham, the player gets a glimpse into alhaitham’s personal understanding of kaveh, and with this, his own views on kaveh.
Within this exchange between him and the player, Alhaitham uses Kaveh’s title without sarcasm, sincerely praising him and his skills, elevating him over ‘less skilled’ architects and asserting that Kaveh should have more confidence in his work.
The reason that Alhaitham does not openly praise Kaveh is stated here, being that “admonitions” will serve no purpose due to people being prone to fall into “similar pitfalls”, and that people should have the right to lead their own life, rather than have it interfered upon by others
The reading here is that even if Alhaitham did openly praise Kaveh, no difference would be made in Kaveh’s thinking. Yet, by refraining from praise, and instead goading, by this logic, this also makes no difference. Therefore, the question is raised, ‘why can Alhaitham praise Kaveh to the player, and not to Kaveh himself?’
When Alhaitham praises Kaveh’s work within Kaveh’s hangout it is through there being no record of issues in the reconstruction of port ormos, which is something kaveh states first - in this context, alhaitham notes the work as an “impressive achievement”, which kaveh assents to, as there is no standing in which this can be debated. Kaveh cannot resent a compliment steeped in fact, even from alhaitham
The problem, then, is rooted in alhaitham’s delivery, which relates to their core issue of miscommunication. Referring back to their exchange in the House of Daena, it is observed that Alhaitham uses similar descriptors of Kaveh to Kaveh, similar to the descriptors he uses to the Traveler in Kaveh’s hangout, however, Kaveh perceives these words as sarcasm.
This highlights the miscommunication between them and can aid in answering the question why Alhaitham cannot be open with Kaveh, as he will be misconstrued.
Through Alhaitham’s repeated elusions to Kaveh when he is not present and his open esteem of Kaveh and his work to the Traveler, Kaveh’s assertion that Alhaitham holds him in a negative light is proved incorrect. This serves to highlight the miscommunication between the two, causing the player to question why they hold such contrasting views of the other.
Clearly, there is a reason why Alhaitham cannot openly express his regard of Kaveh to Kaveh, but this reason is obscure to both kaveh and the player.
In terms of queer subtext it’s pretty interesting that alhaitham’s high regard for kaveh is shown within the surface text and yet the reason for this secrecy is never made explicit within the story’s surface and is only to be inferred from alhaitham’s and kaveh’s character stories.
In terms of the two functioning as mirrors, the fact that the knowledge that alhaitham cannot outright compliment kaveh 1) is not only due to their past argument and lost friendship and 2) is also due to his awareness that kaveh cannot accept goodwill, is only obtainable by reading both kaveh and alhaitham’s character stories shows how intertwined they are as characters - you cannot fully understand one without the other
(Update: For more analyses like this, the essay this is taken from is now uploaded! It can be accessed here and here as as a pdf <3)
My personal take on Alhaitham is that he lives in a constant Schrödinger's Cat state where he is both 110% convinced that he and Kaveh will be married one day and also 110% convinced that that "one day" isn't coming any time soon, so when it does finally happen, I know in my heart of hearts that the one who is most taken by surprise will be Alhaitham.
Kaveh: Sorry, this has been a long time coming, but I finally sorted through my feelings and--
Literally Everyone Else: Oh, finally.
Alhaitham:
mistakes of the past will not be repeated
What is their PROBLEM
Hi, reposting from 2 fanbases on twt, about decision for mama awards.

Let's protect the daesang for the 8th time 💪🏻💜
We really need to talk about this weird idea that Wednesday fandom is anti-Wyler, that Wednesday could never kill or would never surround herself with people who kill.
Because clearly, the show proves the opposite many times.
The problem is that people don't see it because most of Wednesday's lines are taken for that by the audience ; words, morbid jokes.
While those who are truly familiar with The Addams Family will recognize certain nods to previous adaptations, which give other context to these creepy lines that many take for empty threats or lies made to intimidate people by Wednesday.
Where people say that seeing Wednesday as capable of killing or accepting that people kill under the pretext that she has the traits of a toxic person bordering on a potential serial killer, would be a superficial reading of her character, I actually find that it is the opposite. Seeing Wednesday as a person with morals that extend to not killing is superficial, because you cling to the facts that we don't see her kill directly in the show, or punish murderers, without taking into account everything that I am going to quote to you now.
First, there is the fact that Wednesday threw piranhas into a school swimming pool when the athletes were in it.
If you dare tell me that there was no possibility of teenagers dying because of this, you have a problem.
Clearly, that possibility existed, and Wednesday didn't care at all. She just wanted to punish her brother's bullies no matter what, even if it meant hurting potentially innocent people in the process.
Later, we even see that the fact that there were no deaths there bothers people, including her parents.
Literally, they didn't make sure that this event didn't appear on Wednesday's file because she attempted to murder students, but because this attempt ultimately didn't result in any murder, and that's what would have been problematic for them in the file of their daughter and Wednesday herself.
We see several times during the show that Wednesday considers failed murder attempts to be shameful.
I don't understand why everyone ignores this clear, precise fact which nevertheless serves as an introduction to the show.
It just goes to show that Wednesday can kill one day if she really wants to, whether deliberately or accidentally.
The fact that she doesn't kill later in the show directly doesn't change what this introduction shows us on the subject.
Next, Uncle Fester.
Wednesday literally says he went to jail for eating Boy Scouts.
And if you think this is just a Wednesday joke meant to scare, then you've really never consumed any Addams Family adaptation before this show.
Because The Addams Family and cannibalism often go together.
Especially in the 90s movie adaptation.
And even though Fester is obviously also a fan of necrophilia (and this fact doesn't bother Wednesday either), I doubt he ate any unearthed scout bodies.
Not when you take into account previous adaptations anyway.
Then Agnes tries to kill Enid. Don't tell me that Enid was safe. That's not true. If Wednesday hadn't succeeded, Enid would have died. Just because Agnes had faith in Wednesday's abilities doesn't change that fact. Enid could have died. And it even bothers Enid that Wednesday is considering having Agnes as an assistant. Just because Agnes failed in the murder attempt doesn't change the fact that it could have killed Enid. Enid clearly resents this, and Wednesday doesn't care.
So she has a cannibalistic uncle in her entourage and a fangirl assistant capable of attempting to murder others.
And don't tell me that Wednesday is okay because Agnes failed, so everything is fine because she technically didn't transgress Wednesday's moral code. Why ? Simply because Wednesday clearly takes the fact that Agnes failed in terms of attempted murder as pathetic. So not as a positive thing either. Wednesday didn't want Enid to die, but the fact is that having a girl around who failed a murder attempt doesn't please her either, precisely because she failed and she finds it partly humiliating.
Also, if Wednesday really had a moral code related to murder, she wouldn't have kept Agnes around. Even less so her uncle, who had already practiced cannibalism on scouts. Let's be serious.
Wednesday does what pleases her or what suits her best. It has nothing to do with a strict code of morality. She is selfish and puts her own interests before everything else.
Oh, and now the thing I've been wanting to talk about, Wednesday's attempted murder of Pugsley by burying him alive.
And no, this isn't just a game of torture.
In this flashback, Pugsley actually cries. This has nothing to do with the usual playfulness we're used to in the usual performances, or what the show suggested for their relationship.
Yes, Wednesday tortures Pugsley for fun often, but he also enjoys it.
Torture was always limited to the use of knives, huge machetes and electric chairs, according to memories from previous adaptations.
When an Addams buries someone, it's meant to kill in the old depictions. Not to play.
To play, they dig up corpses. One of their games, also used in quite a few adaptations, is called waking the dead.
We literally see Wednesday sealing the coffin so he can't get out. And she did this as a little girl.
And no, it's not that horrible. Because again, if you're familiar with the Addams universe, there are murder attempts within the family itself, whether accidental or intentional, successful or not, sometimes happens. And that doesn't take away from the fact that they all still love each other.
Typically in the old movies, Wednesday and Pugsley want to play with their little brother who came into the world not long ago, trying to kill him several times. It is both a real desire to play with him and a jealousy of Wednesday and Pugsley, not only that but they also believe that when a new child arrives in the family, another must die. The parents end up talking about it with them and we learn that there was a time, yes, they killed a child when a new one arrived but that it is no longer done today and that, according to the grandmother, it was the good old days. And that this murderous hateful jealousy is also natural and not alarming, because there was a time when Gomez & Fester often tried to kill each other first degree. We even learn in the first movie that Gomez killed their mother by accident.
So with all that, all that context from the old adaptations, clearly, Wednesday was trying to kill Pugsley at that point because he was the youngest and she probably wanted to get rid of him from time to time. It wasn't a mutual torture game between them like we usually see for me. When Wednesday tortures Pugsley, he usually likes it in the adaptations.
At least that's how I personally see it.
But that's okay. Because they're Addams. Wednesday even saw it as taking care of her little brother.
Not to mention everyone seems to completely forget about the fact that she told Pugsley to no shit hit a stop sign. That cause a huge wreck that could have been fatal to a bunch of people. Sure it shows them getting out before the fire but the Addams didn't exactly stop to check that they laughed about it.
So with all that, don't tell me that Wednesday could never forgive Tyler one day, even if he goes on the path to redemption, under the pretext that he killed people or threatened to kill them.
Because it's stupid.
(Wednesday herself often has murderous thoughts in her head or outright threatens to kill people out loud... And don't make me believe that she wouldn't be capable of carrying that out one day, knowing the crazy torture arsenal she constantly carries around with and the pirates she threw into the swimming pool at her old high school)
As long as Tyler hasn't killed anyone she loves, the door is clearly open to a future forgiveness on Wednesday's end one day.
Wednesday accepted Lucas being around despite what he did to Eugene because he was showing signs of changing.
(I mention Lucas because some say that even if Tyler was completely controlled and that he is really mentally unstable so that Hyde's actions are not really his fault, well he was always someone who bullied others before... Not like Wednesday was aware of it and didn't care either)
Wednesday no longer cares that Agnes almost killed Enid and took her on as an assistant because she can be useful, despite her psychopathic tendencies that might actually make her kill people later. And do I even need to mention Fester ?
Also the simple fact that Wednesday wasn't surprised by the possibility that his father, therefore a member of her family, was a murderer, but simply thought that it just wasn't his father's style in itself ?
If you really think Wednesday has a problem with the murder itself, then you're the one with a superficial reading of the character.
Not to mention the fact that Tyler has once again been groomed and indoctrinated to be the way he is now as Hyde.
So at what point do you tell me that a character like Tyler, in a gothic story like The Addams, would never have the possibility of redemption ? Even if he was one of Tim Burton's sentient monsters ? At that point, it's denial.
Especially in a story made to defend the marginalized, where Tyler is literally the ultimate marginalized among marginalized people, rejected even by those who should welcome him.
Even Jenna Ortega said it was weird that Wednesday didn't kill anyone and that she should do it in season 3 at least.

Literally obsessed with this character analysis. So many Wednesday fans need to at least go watch the 90s movie adaptations to gain some proper understanding of these characters. The Addams family has always been freaky, it’s part of their charm. And I’m also surprised Wednesday hasn’t directly killed anyone in the show especially when other members of her family have.
And to add onto this as well, you don’t have to like the ship. You can ship any characters you want and headcanon their sexualities to your heart’s content. There’s definitely enough homoerotic undertones in the Netflix show specifically that you can lean into all you want. That’s part of what fandom is. But a big part of fandom culture for everyone to remember is don’t shit on other peoples views and opinions if you don’t like them or don’t agree with them. Fandom is supposed to be a welcoming community.
This post is a fairly factual character analysis, not the OP’s personal opinion. Yes, they are pointing out things they’ve noticed within the fandom, but they’re not being mean and they’re also pointing out actual facts and information that already exist.
Anyway, bravo, 10/10 post 🤍
Superman (2025) | Dir. James Gunn
They're gay and they're fighting
The conflicting storylines of Clark and Lex in Smallville are so insane. Like
Lex: The abuse and manipulation I've suffered at my father's hands have led to permanent trust issues that I am working to overcome whilst struggling with the burden of my family's nefarious legacy.
Clark: damn I wish my dad would let me play football :/
Lex: Every woman I've ever loved has either died or betrayed me. I seek out the love I lost when my mother died in meaningless hookups and sometimes I wonder if I'd be better off dead.
Clark: my crush has a boyfriend that's not me :/
Lex: *gets shot multiple times and left on the street to die, has a hallucinatory dream where he is finally loved and accepted only to lose that love due to lack of power and resources, ultimately driving him to the conclusion that the only way to keep the people he cares about safe is to increase his already vast levels of money and power*
Clark: *meets Santa*
i'm sorry @clarkkentsummer but leaving this in the tags is illegal
I think I must have stopped watching before the Santa episode. I’m pretty sure I’d remember seeing Clark meet Santa.
And yeah, Lex was just in an entirely different show (and indeed genre) than all the rest of the characters.
Clex material in Superman marketing was not in my bingo 2025😭
It’s so fucking funny that Smallville was like Lex and Clark should have lots of devastating background lore for Why They’re Like That Now, but Superman 2025’s Lex literally just saw that man and went bonkers crazy instantly. They haven’t even SPOKEN before the film and he CLONES HIM FROM STRAY DNA. It hasn’t occurred to him at all that Supes even has a secret identity, he just saw David Corenswet’s dimples and went what if we were nemesis’s. I think I’ll orchestrate a war to talk to him. He’s studied his fighting technique so hard he can choreograph it, and FOR WHAT. girl ask that man for a coffee Jesus fucking Christ. 2025 Lex I love you there is something unfathomably wrong with you
