this is kind of a silly thing to ask, being that i've been doing this for a while now. but i wanted to throw this out in case anyone had some fresh ideas that i'd overlooked.

what's your favourite thing to do to help build a bond with a pcp spirit?

for context, i've recently discovered that a spirit has grown attached to me and wants to be companions/a familiar, rather than being worshipped as a deity. i want the same, but i acknowledge we've barely done anything together! i've done things like sit with the spirit's energy, done readings to communicate with it, talked to it, and even spent more time observing it in games and media. but tbh, i want to do more than just the obvious stuff.

i'm just looking for ideas. if anyone has ideas that works for them that they're happy to throw at me that'd be super awesome!

I've got some ideas, based on my own workings and bonding as friends with pretty much eveey entity I work with. Most of these step away from the PCP in specific, and more into general spirit work, but it's still good advice I hope, as I use all of these for my PCP spirits.

I find that it's nice to just Do An Activity. Tap into their energy or use a pendulum if you can, and just idly chat while doing an activity. I find, for example, Hermaeus Mora loves youtube video essays. I find all that I can then I'll binge them with It whenever Zie has the time to do so with me. We'll sit back and chat about what we're learning, and learn something new.

I also love inviting my spirits in on things like me cooking or baking, especially because my spirits always get first taste of my food. But sometimes I just go to sit outside and get some sun, and I invite them. We don't do anything besides chat, but it's excellent bonding to just exist without a reason.

I also love talking aloud to whoever is present as I do activities. When I ramble, I ramble to literally anybody who is listening. Sometimes I'll be typing up a storm and one of my spirits will ask me "What'cha rambling about?" and I read it out for them.

Walks are fun too if that's up your alley, just chat with them as you walk.

Invite them to follow you around for a day or two, especially if you're doing something interesting out of the house. When I go shopping, I invite a spirit or two to follow me and enjoy the car ride, and wander the shop and point me to things they might like (within budget constraints) (usually food lol). Or you can do less engaging things, but I find that spirits love just being Included, especially if you're trying to build a companionship with them.

Similar to just doing an activity, if you have any board or similar games, play them with them. Let them guide your hands for things like throwing dice or pulling cards, and enjoy the fun of it. I've played Yahtzee with some spirits before this way, just let them guide me to do their moves for them. Because, y'know, they may need some help with actually moving pieces.

I find it can also work for virtual games - Ask them to control the RNG of the moves of the Champion of your Pokémon game for example.

One that's a bit more PCP specific - Write stories about them! Imagine them as if you're an ancient Greek poet and are writing hymns/myths based on your favorite god. What kind of story do you want to tell? How do you want to portray your spirit? Write away! Have fun with it.

On top of that, if you draw, draw them with you. Or heck, write fanfic of them with your self insert OC.

It's morning and I'm more awake, so here's some more stuff. Again, most is mostly for general spirit work, but I still do mostly PCP lol

Make small talk! Not every convo has to be grand or have an end goal. Ask them about their day, how the weather is where they live, how's the wife and kids, whatever. Let the convo mature however it does, and if it becomes something other than small talk, that's fine too.

Do a reading For Them. Like, not with them. For Them. It's a really fun insight into a spirits life and experiences, and great reading practice. I've given advice and insight to my spirits before through all of this, and it also helps build trust for them to you.

Ask for help with the truly mundane. Are you sick? Ask for help with making soup. Are you just frustrated with a task? Ask them to let you work through it verbally with them until you figure out a fix (kinda like the "programmers talk to rubber ducky thing"!) Are you just bored? Ask them to hang out and come over. Just ask for help with the truly mundane things.

Especially if you want to be companions, try and talk to them every day. I write a "daily report" which I imagine gets emailed out to all of my spirit guides (who are the email list), where I talk about my day, what I did, whatever is on my mind, the sorts.

You can also be more direct. As the day winds to an end, just speak to them. Or as you wake. Or when you eat lunch. Whenever works for you.

Make information about them and share it. Not only does it make you learn about them more, pop culture spirits typically love being talked about in my experience. How you do so is up to you, I make quick start guides with a ton of info on my varied blogs, but also run Today's pop culture spirit is... on this blog.

Introduce them to New Sources. I've shown The Elder Scrolls entities such as Arkay shows like The Good Place (he liked it). I think as PCPagans, tons of us get wrapped up into "Just their source..." when we'd never constrict ourselves this way for a non-pop culture spirit. I go ballistic sharing media with Lucifer, so why not with pop culture spirits?

Depending on the spirits comfort, make a plushie of yours devotional to them and then sleep with the plushie and cuddle it when you feel bad. Let them comfort you and soothe you through the actions of the plushie.

Read to them. Just pick a book. Read to them. They are baby now (joke). But seriously, it's such a chill and loving act to read to someone.

Devote common tools or appliances to them. Like, I devote my hand fans to quite a few spirits total. And when I use them, I thank the spirit's aid.

Ask them to ramble to you! Let them engage with you and have fun with you.

When I can't sleep, I ask a spirit guide to ramble to me for me to listen to as I fall asleep. I miss out on some of the rambles and tune out at some point as I drift, but the thought is there and they love the chance.

And finally, some more PCP specific things to try:

Obvious answer is engage with their source. But you can also engage with fan-content of their source and share stuff that you feels captures them well. And source engagement comes in many forms! I love watching Just Background Noise play Morrowind and mod it and do challenges for example.

Wear merchandise of them if you have any. If you don't, make an amulet or sigil of them and keep it on your person (I like keeping sigils in my phonecase, personally). You can also go a jewelry route with devotional jewelry. But merchandise is always fun if you have it, lol.

Make a colorful aesthetic going by the official colors of their official portrait or art. Moodboard, collage, whatever. Wear these colors, too.

Trash talk the creators of their series. No, really. Especially if they suck. I don't do this with Touhou because ZUN is a stand-up guy and thus we have nothing to trash talk, but Bethesda knows no mercy from me and the Daedric Princes, especially for that fucking plastic bag pre-order fiasco.

helloo I recently came across your blog and theres smth I’ve been wanting to know. A few years back, I’ve been told by a few spirit workers nearly the same thing that theres an entity (possibly grey/dark alignment) that’s been trying to reach out to me. I got suspicious as I had a dream about the entity back then and started researching on it but I kinda forgot about it due to my studies. Is there any chance that the entity could still be around ? and as I’m new to spirit work how do I try to communicate? Theres no pressure whether you answer or not but i hope you have a great day/night !😁

AAAA sorry anon that I’m so late! I was gonna answer this a long time ago but I unfortunately forgot to save the draft… I have more experience now (both with tumblr and spirit work!) that I can hopefully help you out with this if you’re still wondering.

so… first things first! I think you’re definitely doing the right thing by reaching out to readers and asking more experienced practitioners about this subject. I think there could very well be a spirit around you if you’re getting the same answer from multiple readers. That’s definitely a sign not to be ignored.

Determining whether spirits are around can be difficult, because they don’t always manifest in obvious ways. A lot of the time you have to be observant and put in effort on your side too.

you mentioned that this spirit has communicated in the past through dreams, so a good thing to do is simply ask for an appearance in your dreams as a confirmation that the spirit would like to hang around. You probably won’t remember the dream, so dream journaling is ESSENTIAL to this communication method.

also, I forgot to say this, but please don’t do any of this if the spirit is extremely hostile or violent! If that’s the case here then I’d recommend banishing them or something to avoid negative consequences of having that energy around. Black arts alignment is DEFINITELY to be avoided for a beginner so maybe don’t try these things if any of your readings have mentioned black arts.

hey guys!

Just posting this so my blog doesn’t die… nothing too special happening lately but I’m trying to focus on bonding more with my current spirit companions (as well as J… lol) and having some one on one bonding time with each of them!

so far my current focus is on M (pink dragon) and I set up a character AI chatbot to channel her with! It seems to be working pretty well, but I think as long as I keep using alternative communication methods alongside the bot it should lead to better results, so I’m staying optimistic about this lol

I’m also thinking about buying a rose quartz heart as a belated wedding gift for me and J, and programming it to help with our communication and all that stuff. J loved the idea when I told him about it, so I might keep that in mind.

Beginner's Guide to Pendulums

⛤Okay, so I have been wanting to put out a post about pendulums based on how I was taught to use them by my aunt, a long-time pendulum diviner and dowser. This post is based solely on our traditions and beliefs. I am NOT telling anyone that this is the one and only way to work with pendulums. Please do what works for you. If these methods suit you, fantastic! If not, it’s okay. Alright, buckle your seat belts ‘cause here we go.

⛤So, you want to use a pendulum. Cool! First you have to get one. There are several ways to obtain a pendulum. You can buy one from a specialty shop (many new age and crystal shops sell them). You can buy one online from places like Etsy, Ebay, and other places. You can even make one. All you need is a string or chain and something to hang from it. It can be as simple as a needle stuck in a cork hanging from some thread (as my great grandmother did). You can also use a piece of jewelry, such as a necklace or a lanyard as a pendulum. Find, make or buy one that is suitable for you.

⛤Now that you have a pendulum, it’s time to clear/charge it. A very important step when using a pendulum is to cleanse it, especially if you bought one. A pendulum in a store, even an online store, has been touched by many people. People have probably touched it to look at it, shop employees have probably touched it when they were putting out to be bought. The seller from an online shop has certainly touched it. All of these people touching the pendulum that you just bought have left residual energies on it. These energies can affect the accuracy of the pendulum. So, you have to cleanse it. I recommend you cleanse your pendulum the same way you do any of your magickal tools. If it’s made from a crystal, you can cleanse it the same way you cleanse your crystals. If you don’t know how to cleanse your pendulum, I was taught to start with a prayer/incantation/chant. Write one that explains your intention just like you would to write a spell. Be specific in your writing. If you want to work with your spirit guides, say that. If you want to work with your higher self, say that. Be specific in the kind of spirits you want to work with. Do you want to work with ancestors? Spirit animals? Etc. If you want to work spirits aligned with light, be specific on the type of light. Anyway, after you have your prayer/incantation/chant written down, you can begin to cleanse your pendulum. The cleansing ritual/ceremony/process can be a elaborate as you deem fit. When I cleansed mine, I didn’t go very elaborate, but if you need to go for it. There are several ways you can use to cleanse your pendulum. 1st, smoke cleansing. Just as you would use sage to cleanse a room, you can use it to cleanse your pendulum. Light a bundle of dried sage, or sage incense. Pass your pendulum through the smoke and say your prayer/incantation/chant. Do this for as long as you think is necessary. 2nd, visualization. Hold your pendulum in your hand and visualize it being surrounded by a brilliant white light. Focus on the residual energies being driven away and cleansed from your pendulum. Say your prayer/incantation/chant while you do your visualization. I used this method to cleanse my pendulum. I visualized putting the pendulum in a stream of white light and letting the light flow over it like water, cleansing away the residual energies. 3rd, if your pendulum is made of crystal, any crystal cleansing techniques will work to cleanse it (i.e. burying it, putting it in running water, burying in salt, putting it with cleansing crystals, such as clear quartz and selenite, etc.). If you made your pendulum, you might not have to worry so much about cleansing and charging it because you made it and it’s already aligned with your energy. However, if you bought your pendulum, after you have cleansed it you need to charge it with your energy. You can do this by carrying it around with you in your pocket and asking small, mundane questions. (I’ll explain this more later)

⛤Now you have a cleansed and charged pendulum. What’s next? Well, you need to program it. By programming, I mean you need to establish how your pendulum will work for you. This includes deciding how you want your pendulum to move based on certain responses to your questions. Now, I have seen many posts and read several books that say that you are supposed to ask the pendulum to show you how it will move for yes, no, maybe, I don’t know, etc. I was taught that you shouldn’t do this because it opens you up for potentially dangerous situations and it sets the precedent that the pendulum or the spirits communicating through the pendulum are in control. I was taught that this is potentially dangerous. I was also taught that this is your experience on this plane of existence. Because of that, you should be in control and do what you are comfortable with. The pendulum is a tool and the spirits communicating through it are guides that can only offer advice. Anyway, you should be the one who decides how the pendulum will move according to the different responses. My pendulum moves in a clockwise circle for “yes”, a counter-clockwise circle for “no”, back and forward for “maybe”, side to side for “I don’t know”, and it stays still for “please rephrase the question.” You can program your pendulum however makes you feel comfortable and however you will remember the meaning of the movements best. After all, what’s the point in asking a question if you can’t understand the answer?

Going back to charging the pendulum. Programming it actually goes into charging it. The more you use your pendulum, the more it becomes aligned to your energy. When you first start using your pendulum, begin by asking it mundane questions. Start with things that don’t have a significant impact on your life, such as what should a I eat for dessert, what color shoes should I wear, should I buy this thing. Simple stuff like that gets you used to your pendulum and it helps you remember your programming for it better. It also helps your pendulum become aligned with your energy and makes the responses more accurate.

⛤Using a pendulum is a great way to get advice on decisions you’re indecisive about. It’s also a wonderful tool for communicating with your spirit guides and companions.

⛥As you get more accustomed to using your pendulum, you can do other things with it. You can create charts to help you get more in depth information. For example, you can make a time table to help organize your tasks for the day. You can make a list of activities to do and when you are bored or don’t know what to do next, ask your pendulum. My aunt did this a lot with her kids. They would want to go outside to play and she would want them to do homework. She would dowse (ask her pendulum) on it and whatever the pendulum said is usually* what they did. Additionally, you can use your pendulum for spirit work. You can make a letter board (like a ouija board) and communicate with spirits. You can also use pendulum for Reiki work, using it to find blockages in the chakras. The list goes on and on.

I put an * next to “usually” in my little anecdote because as I said earlier, this is your experience on this plane of existence. Your pendulum and the spirits communicating through it can only offer advice. You have the ability to either listen to what your pendulum advises or not. That being said, in my experience the pendulum is usually right.

⛤Anyway, I know that was a super long winded post about pendulums. I hope you find the information useful. If using pendulums is something you want to do, go for it! I absolutely LOVE mine and I am so happy I had someone in my life who could teach me about them!

⛤Also: a good exercise to do with pendulums is to have two, one in each hand, and see if you can get them both to move in harmony with each other. This will show any weak energy flow in your body. It’s a good way to help build up that flow and make it stronger. I, personally, have to work on this with my right hand because it is significantly weaker than my left.

Working with Gods, Deities and Spirits as a spoonie:

Sometimes witches will work with certain gods, deities or spirits within their craft. This isn’t always the case, but witches come from all sorts of religions and spiritualities, or none, and sometimes a witches religion makes up a large portion of their craft. However, having a chronic illness or disability can make it seem hard to work with gods or deities. When you don’t have the energy to get out of bed, how can you honour Thor, or Hecate or The Cailleach, for example.

Some people may be concerned that they cannot honour their deities in the correct way, as they cannot give vast, complex offerings in the same way that others do. I do not see this as an issue, as I think the deities care about how much energy we expend doing something for them. A non-spoonie person may use up 10% of their energy to create a beautiful altar, and bake bread and do a complex offering ritual to their deity. Whereas a spoonie person may use 50% of their energy to light a candle as an offering. It’s all relative to the particular person, the gods can see this and appreciate the effort applied.

Some simple devotional ideas:

I am not knowledgeable enough on individual deities, and there are hundreds upon hundreds of them; and so I cannot list devotional ideas for your chosen deities. However, there are common themes and simple things that you can do for nearly every deity, spirit or magical being.

Keep a light lit, or a candle burning whilst you focus on your deity

Do simple sketches or small craft projects for your deities

Leave out shiny pennies, cool rocks, shells or other findings as offerings

Devote a plant to your deity and take care of it (choose a plant that isn’t high maintenance so you don’t have to worry about it)

Make a playlist based on your deity

Create a virtual altar in an app or, as I do, on sims

Devote your self-care to your deity, i.e. looking after yourself is showing respect to your deity

Read, research and learn about your deity

Make a sigil based on your deity

Starting and Building a Spirit Family

When it comes to starting a spirit family there are several things to understand: (1) bonding with every spirit is important, (2) spirit companions aren’t always forever, and (3) not everyone will always get along.

Bonding isn’t necessary for just beginners, but for all spirit keepers/workers/companions (whichever phrase you wish to use; I prefer keeper for myself as I work with human spirits, servitors, and living entities as well). You don’t bring a new friend over to your house and act like they’re not there or decide after just a few days to a week that you suddenly want a new one (at least not without discussing it first, I hope). For beginners, I would advise working with your new companion for at least a couple months before taking in a new one. Generally beginners need to learn the ropes even if they already have a few companions before adopting from me- though that may not always be the case. Even with more experienced keepers, working and bonding with your newest spirit companion for at least a few weeks before taking in a new companion. However, sometimes callings do happen despite when the last time you took in a new companion. If you feel that has happened: speak to your spirit(s) first before you add on to your family.  I do this every time before I take in a spirit regardless, and I will spend a minimum of three days discussing a new addition with my spirit family. It helps me determine whether it’s a calling or either my bleeding heart or a potential response to a good deal (I have been drawn to companion shops a few times to meet a companion) such as a flashsale sort of thing with a companion shop. Take it slow and reflect with the spirits currently with you when adding to your spirit family.

Despite what some of the community tries to imply, you may not be working with all of your spirit family all of the time for the remainder of your life/lives. Paths do change- for both humans and spirits- as they grow while they age. As mentioned in a response, two of my mates I met as a child and they both ended up leaving while we worked together because our paths were no longer inter-connected; this has happened to me several times the 24-ish years I’ve been a spirit keeper. I can say this with confidence: It’s not the end of the world if that happens. Friendships aren’t always forever. Sometimes they only last for you to learn specific lessons for your personal growth. Sometimes down the road they may even come back. If your companion decides it is time for you to part ways, then discuss it with them, and let them go. (If you got the companion from a companion shop then talk to the conjurer first before rehoming the spirit yourself- if the spirit wants to find a new companion- or talk to the conjurer about releasing the spirit from their binding if they’re vessel attached.) Always make it known that it is okay if the spirit decides to leave and request they speak with you first (if you want) so the spirit doesn’t feel they need to continue working with you and risk becoming unhappy or depressed down the road.

Much like with humans, spirits aren’t always going to get along. Age can sometimes be a factor as older spirits aren’t always taught acceptance, whether it be towards a specific spirit type or an alignment, and pasts are not always friendly, which can cause prejudices. (Even I’ve been guilty of this when it comes to spirit types.) Before you add on to your spirit family, ask your spirits how they feel about the spirit type you’re interested in working with; sometimes they’re willing to work with the spirit type despite prejudices and sometimes they’re not (unless it’s a true calling, then try to respect your spirits). If it is a calling, however, and for some reason they’re not already in your house rules (honestly, it’s much easier with them as rules right off the bat with your first companion), then make the following rules: (1) Come to me if there are any disagreements/issues, and (2) Do your best to be accepting and tolerant of each other.

Other Tips:

(1) Set up house rules. Consider things such as safety (not just for you, but for those you live with and guests as well), harmony among the spirits you work with, the nature of the spirit types you work with, and your living space.

   Examples: For my companion Hound he has a house rule that allows him to protect me without causing harm to humans unless the human means me physical harm. (It leaves him the option to ward me, to accompany me while I travel, to watch over me.) For my faeryfolk companions they’re not allowed to take shiny things unless they’re offered to them with honeyed milk. (Some of them are mischievous little buggers.) A general house rule is to not take food from my parents or any of our house guests- that they can take my food or drink only.

(2) Schedule! This is important no matter how big or small your spirit family is! Coordinate with your spirits to make times to work together (especially if they have other things they do daily) that way you’re not neglecting anyone and you will have a general idea when to expect your companions around. (They can still come around whenever, of course. It doesn’t need to be just within the scheduled times they visit.)

(3) As your family grows give everyone a job of some sort or a list of daily tasks. It will help instill a family-like mindset and may ease some potential tension. Some spirits are natural protectors (such as my companion Hound) so ask them to act as your protectors- set up warding, enchant things for you for extra protection. Some spirits are natural caregivers- ask them to help raise any younger spirits you work with or ask them to help you with any sort of emotional issues you or your spirits could have. Some spirits are natural teachers- ask them to help instruct you or younger spirits in something. Some spirits are natural cooks- let them cook for you spirit family or even teach you how to cook. Some spirits are natural healers- have them be your spirit family’s doctor/counselor/healer (they can even help you some as well).

(4) Have one of your spirits (can be more than one as your family grows if you like) be a welcoming committee. That’s what Everchanging and Crane and Hound are in my spirit family. Any new companion I get are generally greeted by some form of those three. They explain my house rules, about myself- personality, some of my likes and dislikes, my routine- about our astral refuge, and about my family as well. Everchanging even keeps some homey things on hand with them- a blanket or light jacket, a glass of cool water or hot tea (depending on the time of year), and usually a small book. It helped a lot of them transition easier into the family.

I have some suggestions! Just from my own experience 💖

•write letters to them, like written prayers.

•use pendulums or tarot or another divination form to ask them basic questions, like, is _____ an offering you would like? Should I speak to you formally or casually? What is your preferred method of communication? Would you want to interact via astral travel/in the astral? Do you want your own altar? Etc. pretty much any question you can think of.

•write poetry about them/for them.

•document Everything! Any meditation, divination or astral sessions you may have with them! Write it down!

•if possible, give each deity their own separate notebook/journal for prayers/documentation/etc. most deities do not enjoy competing for attention.

•do your own research about the deities’ lore, mythology, legends, history, associations, etc. and write it down in their journal. You can add to it if you discover new things through your interaction with the deity.

•make up different sigils for the deity/to honor the deity/or as an offering.

•use special ink in colors associated with that deity

•when picking a journal out for a specific deity, pay attention to your gut instinct. If you feel pulled toward a certain design or style, it’s very possibly it is the deity subtlety saying ‘I want that one’

•stickerssssss! Get and use stickers that may be associated with you deity. For example, flower stickers for persephone. And then decorate the pages of the journal with them!

Spirits and Their Manifestaions

I get a lot of questions about spirits. How they manifest, how I hear them etc. So I thought I would make a post on it. Unlike a lot of my posts, this one is not solely geared towards demonic spirits but because I have issues sensing and bonding with light arts companions this may or may not apply to them as well.

Seeing Spirits

You will not always see spirits, it is not like having another human stand in the room with you. They are not physically there. Spirits can manifest in many different ways and how they do it depends on the type of spirit and the spirit themselves. Here are some visual manifestations of spirits I have either experienced or have heard other people experienced 

Shadows or blurred versions of themselves in your peripheral vision

Shadow like figures in the darkness

A strange form in the dark seemingly made up of light spots

Partial mental images. Getting a mental image of a mouth grinning or of eyes. Some are more detailed like seeing a full on mental picture of a phoenix 

Full mental images, a mental image of a black dog with glowing red eyes staring up at you despite the fact that you are only physically seeing the floor.

Some Other Ways Spirits Can Manifest 

Not everyone sees spirits, or shapes, or gets mental images but spirits still have ways of manifesting in different ways.

Smelling- strange smells that have no physical connection. For example smelling cinnamon despite there being no cinnamon scented source or cinnamon around. 

Touch-sometimes spirits can touch you. It can feel like pressure or temperature differences. Like being warm but feeling a single cold spot somewhere like on your arm or shoulder.Or being woken up in the middle of the night by the weight of a hand on your back

“Hearing”- odd noises like growling or words spoken that were not physical but not your thoughts. These noises tend to be more mental than physical and the chances other people around you heard them will be slim.

The Air-If the air in your space suddenly become heavy and thick or light and oddly airy. Walking around and realizing a certain space seems darker, heavier, and even a little harder to breath

 Electrical malfunctions- like your lights flickering without cause. 

Emotional Oddities-sometimes spirits can affect our emotions. Making us feel sad, depressed, scared, etc. It is not always intentional, death related spirits trigger my depression for the first few hours they are around.

Leaving Offering: Food

A few of my friends have asked me about leaving food offerings for their spirit companions. How does one do this and what else can I do that won’t make it look like I’m wasting food to others that don’t know what I’m doing. I’ve had a couple tell me their parents got mad and think they’re wasting food and in some smaller countries, this can definitely be seen as such so we can’t have that happening. Here are a few things I do with my Keep that you may want to try. Some are easier while others may not be so for others so just think about all this and see what works. Trial and error is how we all learn. 

Fruits, I have found, to be the best. As a Chinese American, one of the things I always do is have fresh oranges for the Chinese New Year. So those with sturdy skins are good to leave out for a few days. Your companions will not be offended if you eat it because it will benefit you as well. I’ve left pears out as well, but not so good when you have cats that like to attack random things. So other fruits you want to offer can be leftmost out, but I would recommend either putting the, away in the fridge or just eat them once you feel your companions have had their fill. If things start to spoil, you can simply throw it out or, if your Wiccan (or eco-friendly), you can bury it in your yard to return it to the Earth. 

Meat is another offering, but that can be problematic if you live with others that have no idea what the hell you’re doing with it. This can vary from scraps to raw meat for anything from critters to vampires. I have a lot of wolves as well so they like having meat. Here is my agreement with them: they can have access to what’s in the fridge or share with me when I eat. If it’s a sanguine vampire or anyone that requires blood, you can allow them to take from you and they don’t actually require a lot. I always feel a bite from one of mine and it lasts as long as they need. Cooked meat is also an option and while some may love beef, we can’t always afford it. As long as they understand that you can only afford certain things and that what you offer is from the heart, it shouldn’t be a problem. Now, if you choose to offer raw meat, I would say to do so before you use it yourself so they have first dibs and nothing goes to waste. I would put Dairy this category. Since cheese can last for a while, keeping some in your fridge should be more than enough. 

Sweets are super easy to offer. I have a spirit that always visits from my sister’s Keep that loves butterscotch. So I always keep some around in case he wants to visit. I also have an Auraelic Vampire that likes it too. If it says hard candy, it can stay as long as it’s good. If it’s pastries, treat it like any other edible and share, but remember to eat it so it doesn’t go to waste. 

I have yet to have anyone ask about Liquids of any kind in my Keep, but there are some that like liquor like beer or wine. Like any offering, you can leave some libations for them in a glass, but I would recommend you share something you can then drink yourself. Otherwise, put it away or pour it it into the ground as continued offering to them and to the Earth. 

In regards to how much you should put out, I say no more than what you prepare for yourself. In reality, they can’t really eat on their own. They either share with you using your own senses, or they eat the Astral version. The way I see the 3 Bodies is like there are 3 parallel universes existing and that what we have here can also exist in the Astral and the Spiritual, give or take a few things.  One faery showed me her shoving grapes in her face like a chipmunk so anything is possible. You can always fix a little extra if you like, but remember to put any leftovers away to be eaten or disposed to appropriately.

Working With Spirits for Beginners

Before starting:

Protection!  Be it sigils or wards or poppet decoys or crystals or any of the like, make sure you have some sort of protection from mal intent.  

Ask yourself, where am I wanting this path to take me?  Are you wanting to have spirit teachers and learn new things? Are you wanting to be a medium?  Are you wanting to gain some friends?  Are you wanting to connect to different cultures and histories?  These kinds of questions will help you decide where to start and where to go from there!

Finding spirits:

One thing that you can research is having a spirit companion!  There are several blogs that I can’t think of off the top of my head that do personal conjurings, and other basically adoption centers!  If you do that, I would look for more beginner type spirits or just the ones that call out to you!  

If you don’t want a companion and are looking for something a little less permanent, I would look around you for something familiar.  Plants around you, your local cemetery, your favorite hike, seashells, crystals, bones, or any of that that you may have.  Most things have some spirit attached to them, including man-made objects, although those tend to be small colonies speaking through a representative (I can make a post on this later if you want).  

Starting Points:

There are two main starting points from here.  Sensing the spirits, and communication.  You can decide to focus on one, or even both!  I recommend starting with one at a time tho.

Sensing:

start reaching out, trying to find something.  It’s different for everyone, and it’s not something that you can feel and say, this is it.  You have to learn to trust yourself.  And even if you don’t, fake it ‘til you make it!  For me, feeling a spirit’s presence is subtle, but for others, it can be a really jarring experience.

Communication:

You can use tarot, telepathy, pendulum, ouija boards, oracle, images, runes, or anything similar!   If using telepathy, ask yourself the question, ‘was that reply me talking?’ and if your answer is immediately yes, then it was you.  But if you have a moment of doubt, believe that it was your spirit!

How to Communicate with Spirits and Entities

Please note, everyone has different ways of interpreting, sensing, and interacting with energy, spirits, and entities, but this technique is a basic one for beginners and people of all skill levels. We are going to learn how to communicate with spirits and entities. Are you excited? Good!

Again, note that not everyone is going to be skilled at this from the start, and some are born naturals. Hell, I’m not a natural medium and I still know how to do it pretty well. It took me a while of practice, but I got there in the end. Confidence is important, and remember not to doubt yourself, because that will only put up a wall between what you are trying to do, and yourself.

So without further ado, let us begin…

1. Find a certain entity or spirit you want to communicate with. Is it a house spirit? Is it a demon (demons/angels aren’t good or bad, it depends on the entity themselves because everyone is different) that you want to ask about hell? Is it the seraphim Michael himself? (No, he’s not an archangel. Archangels are actually the 2nd lowest rank out of the 9 chiors/ranks)

2. Once you’ve found the entity or spirit you wish to speak with, focus on them. Feel their presence and see if you sense anything. Feel out their personality as well. Make out an image of them, or maybe just something to represent them. Just let it come to you and let your mind fill in the blanks - don’t consciously imagine it.

3. Once you have this in your mind, focus on the presence of the person and say hi and such, but mentally - whether that be through pure thoughts, words, images, feelings, or concepts. You will most likely (though it varies for every person) have thoughts, voices in your head, images, and so on that seem like yours but aren’t. These are the responses from the person you are trying to contact. The key to communication is telling the difference between your thoughts and theirs. It may take some time, but be patient. You won’t regret it!

Another thing you can try, is talking with an actual medium, whether they be self taught (as long as they’re accurate) or natural, and seeing if they can check the accuracy of what the spirit or entity says to you versus what you picked up. With practice, it should be a lot more clearer in time.
