There was a pause when he said his age, the woman’s eyes widening as a quick laugh made its way past her lips, “Ah! Really? You’re kiddin’, add a few years and you’d be old enough to be my ‘old man’.” Granted she was a product of a teenage mistake-but still. Her father was turning thirty-nine this year, so it wasn’t that much of an exaggeration.
The acceptance of his ‘elderliness’ was quick, more natural expressions now gracing her features. She wasn’t acting now, wasn’t trying to get information at the moment, but was genuinely happy to be talking to someone friendly for once, a trait that rarely showed itself in this line of business unless equal respect had been gained on both sides of course. Although with her guard lowered, childish antics were bound to come out and soon she huffed, looking away for a moment in embarrassment at her rookie mistake, “ Wasn’t like I drenched everything, y’know- ran out of gas before then. Besides, still got the job done, right?”
Well, technically she did, but without the second fire, she wondered if her job would have been in jeopardy…but pride wouldn’t let her thank him-well not yet in any case.
“Naito, huh?” She debated giving him her real name…but he did seem like the type who could help expand her clientele, “My name’s Melody by the way. Ya’ ever need someone to help on jobs feel free to look me up. I do a little of everything, jack of all trades and all that.”
With the sirens growing ever more present, she paused, grey eyes nervously glancing behind them, “Shit, we should bounce, yeah?”
Well, she didn’t know what his plan was, but she certainly wasn’t going stick around. An innocent face could only get her so far after all.
◣ “ Honnêtement, je considère cela comme un compliment. “ He couldn’t help but comment in another tongue, shifting his weight as he took another drag. It was mostly to take in the surroundings -- usually in and out was the best but... this time he decided to have a bit more fun than the typical run. It was good to change things up once in a while, right?
“ Eh -- drenching stuff with a whole can just leaves evidence behind somehow. It’s always best t’ be able to have something not so on the market to ignite everything. “ What he meant to say was that it was more fun to use gadgets that he made to do the dirty work. Someone had to test out such things and while he liked letting others get all the fun ( and not having to receive the bad end of a faulty equipment ) today was a new day.
“ Heh, I got my own crew... one just begs for food as payment. “ He huffed as he spoke the last few words, head shifting to the sound of alarms blaring. It was like music, in an odd sense, a sick curiosity that craved to be fed. Would it be the cops -- or were the baddies really that smart to send some of their own men?
“ I think there’s a bar near the end of the street that’s gotta underground path. Probably the best bet t’ get out of reach from the doughnut lovers, if you ask me. “ With those words, he simply took a stride, walking at his own pace without a care in the world. He’s been through worse -- been through better. By the gods though could he use a shot of whiskey before he got back to base.
