So JK Rowling just launched Beira’s Place, a DV shelter that specifically excludes trans women.

Why does it exclude trans women? You ask

Because they think that trans women might be attracted to the women there, and do something about that attraction

So now if you’re attracted to women and trying to use a DV shelter, you could be turned away because you’re attracted to women

61% of Bisexual Women experience domestic violence in their lifetime. Over half of lesbians reported being abused at some point in their lifetimes. TERFism and transphobia has also been shown to be overwhelmingly Racist, particularly when it comes to ‘clocking’ trans people.

This is horrific, but because it’s TERF island they’re getting away with it. The TERF movement has shut down multiple trans inclusive centres. The TERF movement is, and always has been, about the systematic removal of rights for trans people, gay people, and POCs. This is a nightmare.

1) It’s not a Domestic Violence shelter. It’s more like a referral hub where women come in with issues and the workers then try to find the women assistance for their issues, so they’re assigned a support worker to guide them towards their goals. It’s look like the majority of what they’ll be offering is counseling, group therapy, and the like.

2) There is already a rape crisis center in Edinburgh that does allow trans women. This new resource center takes no state funding (it’s been personally funded by JK) so no resources have been taken that would otherwise go to trans women. Adding more resources does not deplete anything.

3) You are making an assumption that this center will discriminate based on sexuality. That’s not a fact. Bisexual women and lesbians can absolutely access this resource center, as it’s for women.

A woman has created and funded a women-only space for survivors of assault that requires no tax money and displaces no one. It doesn’t even seem to be fully up and running yet.

If this space is a “nightmare” for you, then at least I’m thankful you’re being honest - the movement for trans rights has become so large and all-encompassing that you believe women are no longer allowed to have their own spaces for any reason whatsoever.

And that’s precisely what women have feared for a long time, and we were told we were crazy and bigoted for fearing it.

op is claiming a space that doesn’t welcome men will also turn away lesbians and women of color because clearly these groups are near-indistinguishable in terms of behavior and appearance respectively, so obviously everyone will conflate them. no one but op is conflating them actually so maybe she’s the one who needs to examine her racism and lesbophobia

I thought the trans community and it’s allies have been saying that if women don’t want trans women in our spaces, we’ll have to make our own? That’s exactly what JKR did. And not because she fears people being attracted to women…it’s because she and so many other women fear males in our spaces. Women deserve female only spaces.
