Non-spicy ways to show Intimacy

Intimacy isn't always just the spicy stuff! Here's a few ways to show it through your characters in a few, simple ways...

Kissing their S/O's hand, knuckles, wrist...bonus points for eye contact!

Speaking of which...eyes. Glances across the room, prolonged eye contact, staring at each other

Tending to the other's wounds/ injuries

Knowing the other's tiny habits

Reaching out to the other when in pain, trouble, ect

Whispering jokes to each other

Carefully wiping off a stain from their clothes or face

Taking care of each other when sick or hurt

Hand over the heart/ ear over the heart just to hear it beat

Pressing their thumb over the pulse point for the same thing

Tracing scars, tattoos, birth marks, freckles

Giving the other something tiny that means a lot, a picture, a shiny rock, a flower

In fantasy settings, helping the other put on/ take off armor...trusting the other to know where daggers, knives, poisons are hidden

Telling each other secrets/ thoughts they've told nobody before

Tucking back the other's hair

Putting a piece of jewelry on the other or letting them borrow clothes

Keeping each other warm in the cold

In cases with chronic illness, letting the other care for/ know symptoms

Brushing, braiding hair, applying skincare, etc.

Nightmare comfort

Wiping away tears

Proximity- sitting near each other, sticking close, standing beside each other while doing a task such as cooking, laundry, painting...

Sharing a book, sitting close enough to read it together

Well, I ended up starting a new fanfic for KHR after taking a decade-long break. My goodness. It's been 9 years and 4 months since I last posted KHR fanfic.

... Wait...... I could have waited another 6 months and then the time span would've been the same as when Tsuna time-travelled to the future?!

Darn, missed opportunity.

Anyway, it's my first time posting something brand new in AO3, and I had fun figuring out which tags I should use for the story. I took a look at some of the fandom-specific tags, and I am so intrigued by some of them (Flame Theory and Lore sounds fascinating)!! I'm not prepared to do a deep dive of all the KHR ff on the site (let's not pretend it will be anything other than that when the time comes), but I sense it'll happen in my future.

Short answer: I'm procrastinating so that I don't have to deal with editing an original story, KHR bounces around my head from time to time, and I have lingering Guilts over not completing fics that I started. Of course, the answer is to start a new fic instead of finishing those that are in progress 😅

I feel like it was a lot of things combined. I'm seeing so much of KHR again because of the 20th anniversary content (I live in hope that they'll announce a restart/continuation of the KHR anime lol), but I've also just been reading a lot of fanfic for BNHA, and I stumbled across an old one that was a KHR crossover 😂 it was so unexpected (it was this one, btw: Blue Fire, Yellow Flames).

AND I recently rewatched the first few episodes of KHR. It reminded me of how much I love and miss the chaos in it.

So yeah, KHR has been on my mind a lot lately.

But I struggle with writing khr gag now, compared to before >_< 10 years away does that to me, I guess.

No character is going to live unscathed.

We writers seem to be an expert at getting our darlings bashed up, beaten and abused (sometimes to the point of insanity). That' great, and let's make sure we are doing it right.

Cuts and Scrapes

The area will immediately begin to swell up.

Blood rushes to accelerate the healing process, and that makes the skin around the wound look red and swollen, and it will feel warm (though not hot).

Most wounds wouldn't bleed too much, unless it's a head injury.

Try to give indications of how severe the wound is.

How wide is the injury? How far does it stretch across the character's body? Can bone be seen? Is blood seeping into their clothes or pooling underneath them?

Is it a clean slice, or is it torn open? Have parts of the flesh been pulled away?

How much does the wound frighten the injured character?

Bruises

When the injury is first sustained, it will look swollen and red.

Over time, the bruise will darken to a shade of blue, purple, or black.

After that, it will gradually turn yellow or green. Then it will turn brown and eventually fade away.

The word choice matters!

Describing a bruise as a "contusion" creates a violent connotation, while "blemish" doesn't sound so harsh.

Describing bruises as "discolored" or "shadows" comes with a more melancholy connotation.

How They Feel

An injury from blunt trauma, such as a bruise, is going to feel dull, and like it's throbbing.

It will feel stiff and firm from the swelling, and it may sting if touched.

As the bruise ages, it may feel tender and sore, but only when pressure is applied or the area is moved.

A wound from a sharp object, however, is likely to feel hot, tingly, or numb.

The pain may be delayed, but after the initial rush of adrenaline wears off, the pain from this type of injury will be fairly constant.

Scrapes tend to feel hot and itchy, and the scab from a nasty scrape can cover a wide area. It will also get itchier as it heals, motivating the character to pick at it and delay healing.

Healing Duration

The time it takes an injury to heal is going to depend on the severity of the injury.

As a general rule, however:

Bruises take about 2 weeks Scrapes take about 1 week

Minor cuts take about 2 weeks

Surgical incisions and sutured wounds take about 4-6 weeks

A bad wound that doesn't get stitches could take up to 3 months
