when i read aftg, my french brain has this urge to fill up the blanks of nora’s vague descriptions of jean speaking french

jean: “I will teach you a phrase. You will use it at the banquet if you need to leave. Yes?” my brain: les carottes sont cuites. me: what my brain: that’s it. that’s the phrase. me: i don’t think- my brain: les carottes. sont cuites. me: me: alright fair enough yes

(‘les carottes sont cuites’ literally translates into ‘the carrots are cooked’. it’s an idiom meaning ‘this is the end, there is no hope left, the situation is dire’. but it's a cute way to say it :D another one is ‘c’est la fin des haricots’ = it’s the end of the beans = same meaning)
