"D-did…I hit a soft spot or something, Hugh?" she saw that he tensed up a bit

"I’m sorry, I didn’t know it was that bad. Why didn’t you…say something?" Mei try to comfort him by touching his back lightly, and rubbing it

"Does Nate know about…well, you-know-who?"

Hugh flinched without thought when Mei touched him, causing him to move back a bit. He coughed, realizing what he had done and just drank more of his coffee. This was terrible. Or awkward. He wasn't sure yet.

"It's not bad... But you shouldn't go around and tell people that their roommate wants to suck out their soul. That just. Looks bad. Or something."

"But yeah, he knows. It's kind of why I've been sleeping over in his dorm sometimes--" he stopped himself instantly when he heard what he just said. Oh no. Oh crap. He drank even more of his coffee. Be calm. Thank Arceus for his ability to keep a cool composure.

"I hate when you’re right…." she let out a small laugh "I think I’m friends with a freshman named Serena and I met Red, he’s the anime club president and he was pretty nice…" 

"Y-YOUR ROOMATE IS HILBERT?!" she almost yelled out, covering her mouth already feeling the embarrassment rise to her cheeks.

"Sorry Hugh….both for that reaction and room situation" she whispered "I met him not that long ago when I heard the ghost rumor…he’s kind of weird….maybe he’s just like that?" she said to him, smiling

"Or maybe he’s already planning to suck your soul"

"Oh, Red?" Hugh smiled at the familiar name, Red was always a great name to hear.Though Serena, that didn't really ring any bells but he was sure that if Mei knew her then he was bound to meet her soon enough. "Red and I are in the same dorm actually. He's a good guy, I'm glad you guys are friends too then."

Then she mentioned "Hilbert" and Hugh was brought back down to Earth. He sighed and rolled his head around his shoulders, trying to become a little more comfortable--but it didn't work, unfortunately. Still, he just nodded along to what Mei had said and tried to push him out of his thoughts--

Until she said that last bit.

"Suck. My soul."

Mei looked at Hugh with curiosity in her eyes

"Surprise me…? I rather you have told me before. I’ve been alone most of this time, you know…It just really sucks being left out of the loop, Hugh."

"I just really worry about you sometimes." she then quickly added "And N-Nate too, of course" she followed him along to Nate’s suite.

"But anyway….how is it so far? Do you like your roomate?" she smiled

"I-I didn't mean to... We didn't mean..." he released a sigh and would have easily ran a hand through his hair if he weren't carrying two cups of coffee right now. To be honest (with himself), this was one of the things that he always disliked about Mei, how she always made him feel bad and guilty. But it's his own fault as well for not realizing his mistakes and placing the blame onto others. "You're really social though Mei, I really doubt you didn't make any friends yet. Come on, don't lie to me.

"We worry about you too," it was really more of a subconscious decision, but he was glad the "we" slipped out rather than an "I." Could have been bad. But then he made an automatic frown when he heard the word "roommate."

"My roommate's a ghost apparently."

She picked up her bag and followed him as he talked

"Oh…you’re going to see Nate. I didn’t know you guys were already hanging out." she sighed

"You never even told me you got accepted, you know. And you just suddenly stopped talking to me, Nate too." Mei continued

"I guess you guys were too busy together doing whatever you guys do…” she shook her head

"Dorks"

"Of course we were. Nate went to a completely different school, remember? Hell, we even came together at the same time to Kalos, figuring you were already here."

Deep down, Mei's little words hurt. The more she spoke, the more he realized how little of Mei he (and Nate to an extent) thought of her. After all, she was the one who told Hugh about this abroad program and yet he didn't even think to send one message to her of how he got in. If anything it was because he was too excited to tell Nate first (and ended up with the conclusion of surprising Mei later).

That certainly worked out to his favor.

"I-In a way, we kind of wanted to surprise you... Well the purrloin's out of the bag so there's not much I can say huh?" the tick of his nervous laugh came out once more as he continued to lead them to Nate's suite.

Sometimes it's really hard to tell the truth.

He apologized, so that was a start. But she was still a little angry about him not speaking to her.

But they were friends and she would forgive him in due time.

"N-no, it’s ok…you said you had to go somewhere, right? Who is it that you’re visiting? I was finishing up my studying anyway so I can walk at least half way with you…"

she wiped away the remnants of tears off her face. 

"I don’t want to have you late to anything.."

"Well, just gotta drop off this coffee is all really. Not to mention you can come too, because well, you already know Nate so," he laughed a bit as he began to walk ahead, signalling Mei to follow after him.

"It's been a while since the three of us hung out right? No excuse to stop now if all three of us are free right now."

She didn’t respond, she just went outside and waited. 

And that’s when she went over her thoughts. She couldn’t lie, she did feel SOMETHING for Hugh at one point, and she knew that it wasn’t the same for him. They were only friends. Good friends. But she couldn’t help but have a twinge of hope for him

She was always up in the clouds with him. But Nate told her, Nate told her to go easy on him when they saw each other. And she wanted to but she hurt herself again just by getting hopeful that maybe this college was her chance to get over him by meeting someone else. But as soon as he walked in, she forgot that promise to herself.

She took in a deep breath, and heard the door open up and turned around

Mei teared up a bit, she couldn’t help it, she missed her friend

"I-I’m angry at you, you know that right? Nate must’ve told you."

Hugh sighed while at the counter, ordering two caramel fraps to go. It was weird, seeing Mei again, and it felt weird for him to admit that--even to himself. Probably because it's been a while, despite going to the same school, but he wasn't exactly sure how to say hi to her again after a while.

Sometimes life is weird.

After the order was done and he paid, he went outside and saw a teary-eyed Mei. Fantastic. He put on the most non-awkward smile he could manage.

"I uh... I didn't know that actually... Nate didn't mention anything so um," he coughed, shrugging his shoulders after. "I'm sorry though Mei, I really am... Hey uh, you're studying right now, right? Why don't we study together? To make it up for you huh?"

"Oh, hey, Mei! Funny seeing you here."

The world literally just stopped when he walked into the coffee shop. She could not believe this, she couldn’t believe him, the audacity.

Mei had literally not heard from him since back at Unova…and that was a few months ago. She felt a rush of emotion bubbling to the service

Anger

Hurt

Maybe even….lu…No! No! No! No! She didn’t feel any sort of romantic feelings for him no, nope. 

Well, maybe a little. Maybe as much as Nate. Or more. Yeah, definitely more.

But can’t let that show now, she’s chosen to be angry, that’s the appropriate response.

"H…ugh…?"

She heard something snap, and she realized that was the pencil in her hand that she was using to write.

"How….funny it is to see you too…." she let out, her body was slightly shaking, oh…she truly was going to let him have it.

"Why don’t we speak outside, huh?" she pointed to the door as she got up, almost slamming her book shut

"We have some catching up to do."

"Uuuuh... I will in a second? Haha?" Hugh stepped around Mei, watching nervously how her thoughtful expression changed to something more... not so thoughtful. He inched slowly towards the counter.

"I have to pick up... some coffee for me and someone else, haha! I'll be out in a sec,  yeah?"

"The towers in Johto….Bell Tower and Brass Tower, right?" Mei mummered to herself as she wrote that down in her notebook

She finally did what most college students end up doing, purchasing some type of caffeinated drinks (or more, she was already on her second Chai Latte) and studying her Mythology book and jotting down the important parts of her textbooks chapter

"Ho-oh and Lugia are connected to those two towers, and also the three legendary dogs…" She wrote down in her notebook, her own thoughts just focused on her notes

The shop was empty, for it was a Sunday, most people were already back in their dorms, but her room was feeling a bit stuffy. So she wanted to get some fresh air and get some note taking out of the way

That’s when the little bell above the door chimed, and broke her thoughts when she looked up at who was entering

Hugh was out on a mission. Despite the fact that he was mistreated earlier, he couldn't help but accomplish this one simple favor. Then again, it was just grabbing coffee for someone, and of course a cup for himself.

So he found the Staryubucks on campus after referring to the campus map Arceus knows how many times. He was reciting his own order in his head already, as the other coffee is a surprise order apparently (if anything, Hugh would just order two of the same to make his life easier). But before he could recite his order out loud, a familiar face struck out to him.

"Oh, hey, Mei!  Funny seeing you here."

Well, no, but would it really be obvious if you were? Thinking you were fine is exactly what some spectre would want me to believe!

how do you college -- open

The initial move from Unova was difficult for Bianca. It was hard enough to get her parents use to the idea of her working part-time as an assistant to Professor Juniper and going to Nimbasa University. The fight that ensued when her father had learned she was traveling all the way to Kalos to pursue her dreams of becoming a Pokemon professor almost succeeded in deterring her from going.

But here she was, arms laden with textbooks and papers that wouldn’t fit in her already full backpack, smiling like she had just found the keys to heaven.

Then she tripped and spilled those papers everywhere. Arceus help her.

"Great going Bianca…just hope no one saw me…" she murmured to herself.

Hugh thought that attending Nimbasa University was bad enough by campus size standards, but LCU was certainly no competition. The size of this place was making him kind of dizzy simply because of how large and confusing the campus was. He only wanted to find the math department, but it looked like he was closer to the science building.

He sighed as he kept turning his head, looking for a map at least, until he caught something interesting in the corner of his eye. Turning his heel, he saw it, a poor girl falling all over herself (yikes). He jogged towards her, picking up the papers and books that fell before looking over to her.

"H-Hey, are you all right--B-Bianca?!"

WHERE WOULD YOU MOST LIKE TO VISIT ON YOUR PLANET?

Not sure. Other regions are pretty obvious, but that's all I got really. Maybe Hoenn? Sinnoh? Though to be honest I'd most like to visit everything if I could.
