The “oh woe is me! I am the Most Oppressed Gay in the Village, even more so than Black people who should shut the fuck up and stop hurting my feelings. Yes even the trans ones, you say I have privilege!!” routine is getting old.
Dare I say that a group marginalized in one aspect playing the victim and weaponizing that oppression to justify why they can marginalize other vulnerable people is a tad similar to Zionism?
no literally it is… i had a half-finished thing in my drafts about how the whole “transfem separatism” or i guess these days its more “transfem exceptionalism” is like conceptually similar to zionism. it’s a lack of intersectional perspective and a lack of desire for international and inter-demographic, inter-class solidarity. a desire for one single concrete identity that simplifies and eases the way they interact with other people, with the world. a solid ingroup/outgroup dynamic.
and when people promote the idea that, in practice, being transfem is the most maximally oppressed demographic of people, to the point that it becomes acceptable to use as a bludgeon when you disagree with someone, who exactly does that serve? well it makes it easier for white trans women to win arguments on the internet i guess. because when your marginalized gender is a trump card against anyone else, you can shut down any conflict by retreating to that identity… and that really does serve white transfems the most because they have other major demographic advantages.
in my experience, you can have real practical political solidarity with people who are not exactly the same as yourself actually. it requires more work and more structure and, crucially, more education, more unlearning of toxic shit you were brought up to believe in, but it can happen.
i mean if we just look at this absolute racist debacle thats apparently happening on twitter [link to tumblr post with screenshots] we can see how horrible things get when white trans people are willing to just completely double down on their own feelings of insecurity, on their certainty in the existence of a white identity that gives them value. It’s disappointing and repulsive to me honestly.
Sometimes i wonder about the childhood experiences of these overtly racist white trans people. Because my assumption is that they have been raised with racial-beliefs that they have never deconstructed, unlike their hereditary beliefs about sex/gender which they most likely had to question or even deconstruct in order to transition.
I question what the best way forward is from here.

what is it about things being gender neutral having to also be ‘masculine’. like, why can you wear a suit and tie and call it gender neutral but not a dress cause that’s feminine. why can you call people dude or guy as a gender neutral term but not girl cause that’s feminine. short hair is neutral but long hair is feminine. i mean i know why this is fully a rhetorical question but let’s think about that
