I really feel like 25 years from now they're gonna be screening The Bride! (2026) at old school theatres and queer festivals. Like it's too good for mainstream audiences. It doesn't belong at Regal Cinemas. It belongs on a list of other oddball cult movies beloved only by the lesbians who go too hard on Halloween
my favorite thing about The Bride was the grotesquerie. frank licking black vomit off the bride’s neck. the gnarly possession scene. feeding each other old shrimp from their pockets?? all the unglamorous sounds and movements and textures. it never felt big or performative, like to “complicate” the leads’ sexiness, it was just good old fashioned gross the way dead bodies are supposed to be gross and it delighted me. i 🖤 strange & nasty women.

Sometimes a found family equals a teen boy mom, a genius child, a wanted (alleged) murderer and their demon dog and I think that’s neat.
