I love when tumblr posts say something like "a group of domme friends" because you might think that's a weird thing to just casually assume exists, but no. anyway. since it's a discourse again, let's talk about hdg. i do not have much to say so i will keep this short.

frankly, i find the tumblr discourse on hdg to be disappointing. mostly because i find the constant "imperialism kink is inherently bad" and "hdg was founded on bad axioms" to be frustrating. you all lack historical context and in doing so you are putting forward bad critiques. you are taking away the wrong lesson.

hdg as a fandom was not always flat comfort, and did not always have axioms declaring their plommies to be always right and banning anything that had teeth. authors did not always drink their own kool-aid. it was not always a sub4sub cozy genre and it did not always run from any complexity. these all exist in a context. the fandom had to domesticate itself, first.

if you want to blame something, do not blame abstract concepts like the evil kink or say this was always the case, blame the external influences that guided it to where it is now, blame the community members who harass anyone that disagrees with their vision, and blame the choices to embrace homogeneity of that vision. I do not think it had to go this way, and thus I view it as a tragedy.

But, in truth, this always happens. Forcefem becomes forceless wish fulfillment, agere becomes cutesy SFW, empty spaces becomes doll cuddles, combat dolls become coffee shop polycules, and incest becomes fauxcest. horror becomes cozy horror, whatever the fuck noblebright and sweetweird and hopepunk are happen, and stonewall let's in cops and we all have a good time forever. The wheel turns ever onward and art is buried in rivers of shit. But let's just fantasize about how good it once was and not make anything new ever. Do not commit resurrection.

If you want it to be different for your own creation (and it won't be), write rape and write bestiality, write fiction that bites back and write horror that leaves you bleeding, write parasites that claw their way through your reader's skin and write cognitohazards that hurt the reader. And do it all on purpose so they can't say it diluted your vision. Then maybe instead of being sanded down to comfy slop, you can get cancelled instead and get to watch from a safe distance if you survive.
