it's weird how i can put a character in my exact situation and watch them suffer and go: omg im so sorry here you deserve a hug and lots of love that sucks ):

but then when im going through it im just like: bitch stop complaning

thinking about an au where the watchers initially kidnapped the lifers and forced them into the games etc. but then around limited life (maybe in the session hes not there??) grian manages to take control of the games for himself. cue internal struggle where he knows he should send his friends home but.. its so fun here. grian who has been repressing his watcher powers for so long finally starts to use them. its why a lot of little rules changed, like keep inventory or players replacing missing lifers (idk the lore explanation for why that happens yet lmao). i think in secret life the statue was a last ditch effort from the watchers to exercise their power over the games once they realised grian was continuing them on their own. its also why grian has been SO blatant about being in control of the gimmick in the past two seasons, because he wasnt really before. and idk maybe his watcher stuff is leaking onto hermitcraft because we havent had a new season in a while, theres no outlet ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

for a while the lifers had no idea control had switched, but grian got more and more obvious that he Knew things they didnt, and the absolute glee he took from that <3

What helped me write trauma better is remembering that the nervous system learns predictions. If danger used to come after quiet, calm can feel threatening. If kindness used to come with a price, kindness can feel suspicious. So healing is not just “they know they’re safe now.” Healing is the slow, annoying, deeply unfair process of teaching the body that the old prediction is not always the present truth.

Shout-out to characters who don't plan to survive their stories! Heroes who think they can only atone for their failures through sacrifice, villains who don't think they deserve to live in the world they're trying to create. Gimme that passive suicidality baby, mm-mm, delicious.

Stop writing your extrovert as someone who never shuts up and is exhausting to be around. That's a bad extrovert, not extroversion. A well-written extrovert thinks out loud, they don't know what they feel until they're saying it to someone. They use conversation to process. What looks like oversharing is actually them figuring themselves out in real time. They need the other person there not to listen but to exist. The other person being in the room is what makes the thought happen. Write that. It's fascinating.
