Please read this because it is EXTREMELY important me (a transgender man) and to other trans individuals.

The US Government is currently trying to pass an incredibly dangerous national law for trans youth called HR 2616.

This bill would ban all Federally funded schools from teaching about gender identity or sexual orientation, prevent teachers from using the correct pronouns and names for trans students, remove books with any trans representation in them, and even go as far as to prevent teachers from acknowledging trans identity AT ALL.

Any school that does not follow this will lose all federal funding. This bill would also require teachers to forcibly out trans students to their families, which would be fatal to any trans student with a transphobic Family or just hateful family in general. Trans people are already a group that already has some of the highest rates of being victim to suicide, domestic violence, and sexual assault.

This bill actively makes teachers put those innocent children at such a big risk. This bill has rapidly passed the house this week with support from all 209 republicans, as well as 8 democrats. But, it's still being voted on in the senate, which means there is still time to help stop this.

To help stop this, you can visit 5calls.org (look up 2616 in the search bar), one of the most top issues filed Oppose Attacks on LGBTQ+ Students. Once you put in your general location, it will pull-up contact information for your senator, and give you a script for calling them.

If you are a minor and/or do not feel comfortable doing this, PLEASE repost this on here, or any other platform you are on/can find! This needs to be heard and fought against.

look gang i don't want to be a cynical bastard, but there's no way in hell this bill doesn't pass. Republicans have a majority in the senate and even if they didn't, there are multiple dems that will vote for this bill. so i'd recommend joining your GSA or similar clubs and start talking about this there. while it will get passed, i do believe it will likely be contested, and still needs time to go in effect (though i do think the trump admin is going to try to rush this in for the 2026-2027 school year), but i do have to correct the language of the original post slightly.

HR 2616 DOES ban the teaching of "concepts related to gender ideology as defined in section 2 of Executive Order 14168," in all federally funded schools. Given that this is based in the language of an executive order, it, theoretically, gives an opportunity to amend this assuming a dem takes presidential office next election cycle (which is a long time, but it's better than nothing). However where this post does spread some misinformation is in the banning using kids preferred pronouns, names, etc. HR 2616 only requires that kids in grade K-8 federally funded schools obtain parental permission before changing these on school forms; high schools are unaffected by this bill. Obviously this is awful, but it's not as far reaching as the original post claims, and that's why I'm correcting it, because this means it's going to be the state and local level governments that are going to be creating the even worse versions of these laws, and THAT'S WHERE YOU CAN HELP A LOT MORE. Federal laws are basically decided before they reach the floor, but state and local laws can be influenced. So when this does get passed, pay attention to the laws being passed in your state, and try to fight those and organize to deal with those instead of worrying about the federal stuff (this is not me saying to ignore what is happening federally, but saying that federal laws are indicators of what states are trying to do, and state laws are much easier to fight in the court of public opinion.)
