what would a date at the roller rink be like with the poly!boys be like though? Naturally David would pretend to be too cool and above it all, but I imagine that all in all they’d get into a lot of hijinks before ultimately being kicked out lmao
*gets flashbacks of my childhood at the local roller rink from the 80s*
Poly!Lost Boy×Reader Roller Date
Okay so roller rinks were nothing new, but it had a certain rep since the disco craze a few years back. They were tough motorcycle punks and roller skating didn't fit that.
When you suggest going to the roller rink, you are immediately backed up by Paul. He, being the most comfortable with new trends through the years, was really into roller disco when it was in it's heyday. The others are in a corner when both you and Paul are so keen on it, so they caved.
The local roller rink was a dark setting brought to life with obnoxious dance music, neon lights that made racing stripes around the rink, and more lights floating from a high ceiling. In the center of the ceiling was an impressive looking disco ball. The lobby was lined with a wild looking carpet pattern and had black lights that made everything glow, including David's bleached hair.
There were kids on dates and groups of friends and even some older veteran skaters occupying the rink, and thankfully not very many young kids. The kid at the counter gave you all your skates. On the rink, people kept a distance from the four punks but that turns out to be better for everyone.
Have you ever seen a baby horse try to walk for the first time? That's what it's like for tall people roller skating for the first time...only worse (trust me I speak from experience).
Dwayne and David have the hardest time and the whole night is spent being pulled between these boys.
Dwayne actually doesn't move very far from the rail. Paul is there with him trying to help him out. He gets infront of him and takes his hands and helps pull him along while skating backwards. He mostly is having a hard time balancing and it BOTHERS him to no end. He skateboards like a champ but it's this that has him slipping up. He insists he can do it and is very focused on doing it as he spends the whole night wobbling along.
Dwayne is 100% holding your hand. He doesn't want to fall and is not afraid of looking "lame" for using you for support. Also he just want to hold on to you for obvious reasons.
There will be some heckling now and then from some douchebags, but Paul has it covered. He will rush past them and slam them to the ground and glide away into the crowd like it was nothing. Skating circles around others while tearing into some asshole who pushed past Marko. There's also no promise that he won't find them later and have a snack.
Every now and then a 70's song will come on and they'll be like "Oh shit I forgot about this one"
David defiantly acts like he's above it all. It's just a corny thing kids do on weekends. The thing is, he knows he's going to wobble and trip and probably fall. So to save face, he has one hand on the rail at all times. He's right there with Dwayne, hand in hand with him when he tries to skate without the rail. Paul tries to help him out, but he declines.
Marko has a rough start and was the first to fall, but he caught himself. Being the shorter of the bunch served to his advantage though. His center of balance is better than the others and manages to pick it up after some trial and error. He'll chase after Paul and the two will play tag around the rink, mostly so Marko can get more used to it.
Paul is all over the place, and he knows exactly what he's doing. He's dancing and spinning and showing off like the ham he is. He also pulls you along to dance with him. Whether your good at skating or not, he's got you pulled into a spin before skating circles around you. He insists on doing the lift from the end of Dirty Dancing, but you try to explain to him that adding wheels to it would be a problem. He doesn't listen and one attempted lift later, he's flat on his back with Marko pissed that he dropped him. David points out that Marko "can fucking fly" but what's done is done.
David isn't jealous of Paul's skill, but when he sees Marko starting to skate freely he starts feeling it. Without warning he lets go of the rail and tries to catch up with Paul and Marko. He was the third fall of the evening. David leaned too far forward and stubbed his skate's toe guard and stumbled before falling. One hand managed to catch the rail so his top half was safe at least. He's embarrassed but you assure him that it was a good start.
Expect a daisy chain pulling David and Dwayne along.
Paul teaches Marko how to do a whip (two people speed skating with a third on tow and then releasing them with a speed start) and they sneak up on you for the attack. They try this with Dwayne but he kept a death grip on Marko so he was yanked with him on release.
Dwayne starts to get the hang of it and immediately tries to skate backwards like Paul. This doesn't work and he slams into David on accident. Instead, you try to help him out but he resigns to skating normal.
Even though they are hopelessly devoted to your polycule, Marko and Paul are definitely flirting with skaters on and off the rink. Girls will be sitting on the open rails by the lobby and the two blondes will stop by to chat them up.
It was one of those times where they got in trouble. Paul was getting a little too close to a girl and her boyfriend went after him. The guy ran onto the rink but he couldn't keep up with your boyfriend, who was laughing while flipping the bird. Meanwhile you guys are watching from the sidelines cheering on Paul to keep going and "show him who's boss!". After pushing patrons and causing some collisions, a couple of security guards tag the two of them and kick them out. You all weren't about to leave him hanging so you called it a night.
They have fun at the roller rink. It's not everyone's David's thing but they still have a good time zooming around and trying not to fall. Because as long as they're together with you, it's going to be a good time.
