Okay but every time you deal with something hard on your own, even though you feel that initial pull of sadness that you can’t go to someone who used to be a source of comfort for you to share the burden, you are actually building internal strength and fortitude. So consider THAT this morning
“I feel very small. I don't understand. I have so much courage, fire, energy, for many things, yet I get so hurt, so wounded by small things.”
Anaïs Nin, from nearer the moon: the previously unpublished unexpurgated diary,1937-1939
“I have died for the smallest things. Nothing washes off”
Angela Jackson, from "The Love of Travelers," And All These Roads Be Luminous: Poems Selected and New
It’s annoying but the way you improve yourself is one tiny thing at a time
You can’t realistically stop all of your bad habits at once. So like. Pick one. Pick one thing in your life to work on. Eating slightly more vegetables or being slightly nicer to your coworkers or reducing the amount you drink. Something. And once that’s easy try something else.
Shannon Pratson, "Still Life with Sky, Coffee, Tulips, Anna Karenina, and God"
Barbara Crooker, “Red Amaryllis”
This a a reminder to not fall victim to the sunk-cost fallacy. Just because you invested time and energy into something, does not mean you should indefinitely waste more time and energy on it, if you decide it’s not what you want anymore. This goes for anything, from books, to relationships, to jobs, to hobbies, etc.
If it’s not serving you anymore, move on.

literally though if you feel like your life is slipping through your fingers and every day goes too fast… try doing hard things, not just taking the easy route, like reading and making art and exercising and cooking a meal from scratch and journaling, doing these things without distraction, without being absorbed on a screen… the time will stretch and you’ll be reminded that life is long and beautiful if you make it so.
you've probably heard it before, but half-assed is better than no-assed. don't let perfect stand in the way of done. a 0 on your report card is worse than a 50. do it scared. do it wrong. do it ugly, just do it. do not wait for the perfect day to have your little treat. make a day better with the treat. life is for the living. make outsider art
Brief Poems, Vera Pavlova
one important thing that Must be understood about interpersonal relationships is that you have to stop interacting with people who love you like they’re one slip-up away from leaving you. you have to trust that the ppl you love mean what they say. you have to believe that when they say “this hurt my feelings,” that they’re also saying, “can you please love me this other way next time?” and you have to wrap your head around the fact that even if you don’t understand Why someone loves you, you can accept that that they do. true, honest, & open love does not function like hp in a video game !!!!!!
Allow yourself to experience good things. Use the fancy plates, eat the nice chocolate you've been setting aside. Drink the expensive wine with friends while watching a silly movie. Stop putting off good things because some arbitrary event hasn't happened yet. Make experiences special. Have apleasant memories. Stop letting things waste away until you're filled with regret over what could have been.
