This weekend I admitted to a panel room of people at a con that Thor from Stargate SG-1 is on my “hear me out list”
Couple of points
1. I was presenting the panel
2. This is Thor if you’re unfamiliar with the character

Anastasia as a DND style wizard!
This cosplay is a wild one. At the end of 2019 early 2020 I was working full steam ahead on a “witch” Anastasia cosplay for a big group with my friends
Then Covid came and she unfortunately became an abandoned cosplay. My friends even went on to do the Princess Witches group but I had no motivation to do it (much to my own disappointment)
5 years later that same group was doing a “Princesses but make it DND” group and I had the epiphany that I could utilize those original witch Anastasia pieces to make her a DND Wizard
Adding another layer to the journey, I used the original Anastasia dress that I made almost a decade ago as the base to give it one last ride in my cosplay life. It was so poorly constructed because it was literally one of my first cosplays but I was having a hard time letting it go
This was such a fun concept to play with and getting to use pieces I worked very hard on for something new was very satisfying
I just got some photos back and I’m so happy with it!!

Literally one of the greatest things ever is that my niece loves r2d2 and Princess Leia. It all started when she found out Auntie is Princess Leia
Got to fuss with it a bit more but I think this will for “early season 4” Samantha Carter hair
Definitely not too shabby for less than $20
I love Melinda May so much
I wish she could have a cameo in the MCU movieverse. What’s the point of all the alternate realities if we can legitimize one of the OG Marvel tv shows
I just rewatched Agents of Shield and I really think May might be my second favorite MCU character. Which is funny because my favorite is also from a Marvel tv show (Agatha Harkness)
Something I think can be so hard to look past as a cosplayer is accepting a costume is going to look different on your own body than the original actor. Especially if you’re not as thin as them 😅
A thing I know OP knows, but may be a good reminded for fellow cosplayers is to design to scale. Matching the exact way a detail is on a cosplay's source material, may look incorrect with your proportions, so where possible, consider scaling.
For instance things like buttons or gems, go a bit larger if you're larger vs exactly matching the same exact size. If a small actor has five buttons down a shirt front - your options are to either match the exact number and size of buttons, but it will be spaced differently on your form which will probably look off or you could increase the button size or the button amount to preserve a similar spacing / visual of buttons.
It's always going to look different - every BODY is different, but remembering to adjust scaling can help keep things looking more aligned with the original design, while fitted to your form.
Yes to all of this! I very often shift waist seams (or add a waist seam) because I prefer the way it looks on me
At the end of the day; if you don’t like the way something looks on you before you even finish making it, you’re probably never going to wear it as much as it deserves to be worn. Your time is precious and cosplay is fun, so do it the way that feels good to you
And PLEASE, never take the words of cowards on the internet who hide behind their own insecurities to try and tear your confidence down with mean spirited comments

Pushing through to finish this dress
The back has been particularly trying because of how difficult it is to try and make minor fit adjustments on myself
It’s a process to get this dress on and off in its current state so it’s taken me most of today to get the back to this point
There are some things I’d do differently if I was making this again but man am I pretty proud of what I’ve done so far
If you embroider or hand sew in your bed, you may think to yourself, "I'm just gonna set my needle down real quick next to me/on my chest/literally anywhere except inside the project or on a needle catcher and I'll get it in a minute, it'll be fine." But it won't be fine. You'll lose the needle and then you'll have a loose needle just in your bed. Haunting you. Waiting for you. Craving your flesh and blood.
Use your needle catcher.
A little video of me letting loose some freshly pleated fabric!
Some simple tasks take me ages to complete but I genuinely love pleating and individually ironing them 😂
Friends, I haven’t con crunched this bad in a LONG time
Typically I’d just stop crunching and wear something else but I’m pushing myself for this con because everything I’m working on are things I’ve been planning and wanting to wear for a while, some I’ve been plotting out for over a year
It’s just my own procrastination issues that have stalled me for the last several months
I have to finish Mon here which is no easy task because EVERYTHING about this dress is a pain in my ass and the things I have left involve hand pleating MUCH fabric, including the organza overlay I’m saving for last
I have a whole costume yet to START.
And 2 others I need to finish
Can I do it? Theoretically yes. With some good time management and focus. Unfortunately time management and focus are two things I’m severely lacking
Voicemails for Isabelle is the first “rom com” movie I’ve watched in YEARS that I genuinely loved
And made me cry multiple times but in a good way
Feeling very confident about my Mon Mothma project
I was able to pin my top layer to the structured base and it seems to do exactly what I was hoping it would do. Now I just need to make the other side of the bodice and make everything as symmetrical as possible 😭
And do soo many pleats (I’m a crazy person though because I actually like hand pleating with just my iron, some heavy books, and an audiobook)
I just opened a new box of peanut butter crackers yesterday. I know this is a fact. Brand new, 8 individual packages of crackers. I ate one pack.
Tonight I went to grab a pack as a bedtime snack.
The box is empty.
This box sits on my “snack shelf” in my kitchen.
Checked with family and no one was here today. I have a hard time imagining someone would come into my disaster of a house, steal 7 packs of peanut butter crackers and leave.
On the other hand, if it was an animal, I can’t imagine they’d leave the box. And I feel like there would definitely be evidence in the form of wrappers
The only other option is ghosts.
I also had it happen a couple months ago where one of my bottles of dried herbs was completely empty when I went to use it. And it was something relatively recently purchased and not something I use often. Completely empty, no evidence of a critter getting into it.
Finally cosplayed my favorite Sequel era character; Matt the Radar Technician
I managed to get my season 2 Rosie to a wearable point for this weekend!
Unfinished but wearable for my con this weekend!
