People at work

My final 6 images for people at work. This project helped me gain confidence in asking strangers to have their photograph taken. I struggled with this project as I'm not used to taking images indoors on a low shutter speed but to compromise this I used my speed lite and bounced the light off of the roof to brighten the room and create soft even light. I really enjoyed this project as it pushed me out of comfort zone and I would love to try something like this again in the future.

My final 4 images for Stylish students. I really like the neutral tones in these images as I feel they compliment the skin tones really well. I like the simplicity of the posing and the shallow depth of field really helped separate the subject from the background.

Glasgow bin strike

Although these images may not be our personal favourites Euan, Mark, Molly and I thought these images sold the best story on the Glasgow bin strike.

The Striking images project entailed capturing the story of the Glasgow bin strikes which began when workers walked out for the first phase of the strike due to poor wages and the cost-of-living crisis on Wednesday 24thAugust 2022 the first phase ended on Thursday 1st September 2022. I documented this project by capturing common shots as well as getting creative by using different camera angles, apertures, and focal lengths. 

     These images demonstrate what effect the bin strike had on the Glasgow community, the city centre, and businesses. I wanted to include people and wildlife in my shots as this helps the viewer see the story from a physical perspective. I also included Buchanan Street, Glasgow Queen Street station and signs that read “People make Glasgow” as this sets the scene of where the bin strike had taken place.
