psa: i also have an ao3 account under “justablonde,” and my one and only wip (well, published wip) features a character with the same name as my [former] username - daphne bowen - so that’s where the inspiration came from

one of the best pieces of advice I've ever heard (for myself, at least) is that if you're in a terrible mood and NOTHING is helping, then start doing the chores/responsibilities/job stuff/etc that you've been putting off. Will it put you in an even worse mood temporarily? Probably, but you're already pissed off, so you might as well double up on it at that point 😭 there's no loss. It's not like finally getting around to cleaning the house and scheduling appointments is going to ruin the good day that you aren't currently having to begin with 💀 And then, when the bad mood passes, you'll have gotten shit done and you'll feel a lot better later, even if in the moment you're having The Worst Time Ever about it.
i have always loved the tom holland spider-man movies, but after watching brand new day twice (sorry i'm obsessed it's official!) and now going back and rewatching the first trilogy (specifically far from home) it's so... not real?
like obviously tom is wearing a cgi suit. and obviously the entire part where mysterio is tricking him into being run over by a train is a massive cgi mess that everyone knows marvel never does the best with. but as a kid? when that movie first came out? i thought that was so cool. now, it falls kinda flat. it's so... not cool. i'm weirdly icked out by the whole experience rewatching this. why am i borderline disturbed? you can't see peter's actual movements as well. you can't really see his face (apart from his eye goggle thingies widening whenever he's being particularly expressive, which, let's be honest, isn't a lot). it's so bland to me, in a very specific way i'm unsure i can convey in words.
maybe it's because you don't see as much of peter in spiderman during this fight. and obviously this is peter fully unrealized. he is a grieving, teenage, junior boy mess after the death of his mentor / father figure and saving the world from a giant purple alien. but tom is a brilliant actor, and i believe he did well with what he had to work with. it just sucks that compared to how it could have been (what we have now, with brand new day) we didn't have it as well as we should have.
i just kinda find it interesting. maybe it's the true evolution of peter parker's story. maybe its all about switching up directors. maybe it's tom having a very final, grown up vision for his character and seeing that an end may be near. maybe marvel has finally gotten their act together. maybe god sprinkled some magic into bnd that changed my brain chemistry. maybe i'm imagining all of it and this is a crazy post everyone will disagree with.
but i just find it really interesting. five years later, and this is my peter parker. pretty much exactly where we want him to be (and yes, we love to see him struggle, sorry tom)
