man there was just something so special about the scene where joaquin finally tells sam about the pressure he feels to be perfect, in order to live up to the standards sam set as falcon. like you can just tell from the look on his face that sam really needed to hear that: that as much as he struggles to fill steve’s shoes, somebody else is struggling to fill his. because sam is a hero—someone that kids from all around the world probably look up to, who makes people feel safe, who can always be counted on to get back up and make the right decision, super serum or not.

watching a good girls guide to murder season 1 for the first time having not read the books in 6+ months feels like i'm discovering the plot along with the characters and all those who had never read the books before.
like, the ideas are there. there's many of the same characters. some of the dialogue is the same. but it's also... so different? don't get me wrong i'm LOVING emma meyers as pip and everyone who is playing her friend group is killing it. they have my hearts. but the way pip goes about her investigative journey and pieces everything together is a bit different from the books, no? it's not a horrible show it's just...
it feels like i have no idea what's coming next. that's the point i'm trying to make.
similar with the percy jackson movies and, quite honestly, the tv show at points - the elements are there, just not how i wanted them to be.
but obviously i'm about to binge season 2, so there's that!
reblogging my own post to say that the second season cleared every expectation i had by a mile! connor reynolds has my entire heart and i actually loved the changes that they made, since it was so similar to the storyline of the books but the changes were great. dan da silva was so much better fleshed out in the series, first of all. i love how much they involved connor and cara beyond their roles in the books. pip and ravi are amazing always and i would die for them. all the little hints for s3??? gosh i wanted to binge it then and there but i must wait! stanley and charlie once again bringing tears to my eyes. jamie felt like a much better older brother and i appreciate the lack of a dad in those scenes because his mom is ultimately more important and his dad weirded me out also. the max hastings trial of bs had me raging like i didn't know what was going to happen. and i love how they fleshed out his mom to have some sort of backbone (but not too much, cause no, her turning in the drugs she found to the police is too easy). i could go on but #loved it and im hoping there will be a third season cause that book is my favorite one!

The vocals are definitely better in HSMTMTS compare to HSM because every actor in the show’s whole bag is pretty much being a performer who sings. I mean, granted Sofia Wylie was hopping off a recent Disney show she did so her role was probably cast bc they were thinking about her, but she’s also on par with everyone vocally. Half of the cast if not most of them are theatre trained to some degree, and Julia Lester’s dad is even a theatre performer himself so her skill and talent isn’t surprising at all, hell Saylor comes from a line of siblings who are always booked and busy and I’m pretty sure her brother was in a broadway show? That family is just rampant with talent. And then Olivia Rodrigo of course has videos of her singing at incredibly young ages closely on par with how she sounds now if not with a little bit of inexperienced small child, but generally she’s always been a great singer.
HSM on the other hand, yes they’re actors and yes they can hold tunes, and yes some of them are just half-decent singers to begin with. But if you have to have a vocal double because you can’t sing that well, it’s gonna affect your movies comparison rating in my eyes.
Some of the HSM songs hold their own, but it’s also the factor of the time it was made. The filming practices, trying to lip sync with the prerecorded pre-mixed and mastered vocals, the lyrical styles of the time along with the vocal styles of the time. And then the actors themselves.
What HSMTMTS does well is that it at the very least makes you feel like a lot of the vocals are live vocals. I’m sure they’re not because that would be insane and it’d make me think they deserve way more awards than they got, but sometimes you’ll be watching and forget they probably sang to a pre-recorded track. I think they’re all just so good at the vocal end of the whole thing so they know how to make it look like they’re singing.
HSM cast was more actors first, HSMTMTS cast is both simultaneously without any one over the other (generally).
i just wanna say i know that tim federle had said that they got a lot of takes especially during the first season of the cast singing live (the example that comes to mind is wondering, i remember julia lester talking about that specifically) and even if they don't necessarily *use* the live version the actors have the chance to perform it live for the show. which i think is suuuuper cool and makes them oh so talented.

the last time I reblogged this post right before I got a great job, in a permanent work-from-home position, with benefits, retirement, and a salary literally 3x what I was making before, doing something I really like.
yes, percy rose through the ranks of new rome disturbingly fast. no, jason did not do the same at camp half blood. yes, percy's rise to leadership at both camps took about two weeks and was completely unplanned. no, the same cannot be said for jason. his rise was carefully planned and took over a decade. they're both children of the big three, but where percy thrums with raw power, jason is a sword honed by zeus and hera. where percy is a survivor, jason is a weapon. where percy is a cycle breaker, jason can't get out. jason's fatal flaw was temptation to deliberate because he never managed to make his own choices. he was every classic definition of a hero rolled into one, and he never questioned it because his happiness came after the responsibility. jason was never going to ascend as fast as percy because jason was raised on hard work and discipline while percy, an abuse survivor and child of poverty, knew when to fight dirty. where jason was a transplant, percy was an invasive species. jason was always going to die because he was never more than a tool for the gods to throw away when he outlived his usefulness, or when he started to question his place. if someone as locked down as jason can question the system, anyone can. now that luke has put thoughts of overthrow in everyone's heads, zeus has to be very careful because while jason was expendable as his weapon, percy was unexpected in every way. zeus has no plan for him. when percy dies, he will become a martyr, so he can't die, except now everyone knows that percy doesn't want to be a god either. jason had to die, and now percy has to live.
lowkey forgot how insane julie and luke are. like. he crash lands in her life, invades her garage, her bedroom, her kitchen, walks through her one (1) time and starts handing out songs he wrote for his band which he is very protective of. they have insane eye contact on stage after knowing each other for like 12 hours. they walk through each other again. she follows him home and makes his parents cry about their dead kid. they try to hold hands but can't because he's a ghost. he wears sleeves to her school because he wants to impress her. she has a whole daydream song and dance about him where they can touch. she begs him to let go and move on so that he doesn't get his soul like disintegrated but he says no because no music is worth making if he's not making it with her. she saves him with love. they've known each other for like a week. theyre insane.
AAAAAHHHH ! I just finished agggtm season 2 and it is PEAK so much better than the first season (maybe because I don’t really remember the books) I love all the new plots they added like Rosie (Max’s mother) or Max saying it was Sal I wanted to scream at that moment actually.
Also the music this season is so I mean Labour AND way down we go in the first episode ??? AND THEN ACHILLES COME DOWN ?! And Little Girl Gone when Pip tags Max’s house ??? Absolute best song choice ever. And like a thousand other songs I forgot the name of
They made me cry a second time at Stanley’s death so props to Holly for breaking me :) And this time I also cried at Max’s verdict the scene where Pip and Nat are crying and hugging and it cuts to Becca crying alone in her cell that was. that was so well done.
And all the references to book 3 ??? I NEED season 3 announcement it’s not even funny
And all the lines from the books they included !!! Real men wear florals when trespassing !!! The dating app scene !!! Pipravi has never been better (and they won’t be again for a very long time)
