I’m currently working on a short story for the Observer Graphic Story Prize. Process for comics always starts in computer for ease of rearranging on the fly. Next step is the light-box and glorious india ink

Here are three pieces I have been working on for the Paper Arts ‘Transformation’ exhibition opening the 25th August. Each ink and wash piece depicts a different folkloric belief in the ability to take on the form of animals.

The Selkie is a woman who upon donning a magical seal-skin may take on the form of the animal and live in the ocean.

The Berserker was a practise of viking cultures wherein men would wear the pelts of beasts and ingest psychoactive drugs to gain the strength and fury of bears or wolves.

The Skinwalker was an often malevolent Native American analogue of the Western witch who could assume the shape of myriad animals to enact their wicked desires.
