KENMA KOZUME
âMeltingâ
Kenma doesnât understand love.
He never has. He never will.
He has never understood what people meant when they explained butterflies in their stomach.Â
He loves video games. But thatâs not the same.
He doesnât understand love⊠or he didnât, not until you.
As you sit next to him, fidgeting with the second controller to his Playstation 5, he canât help but sneak glances at you. Youâre playing Call of Duty with him, clearly having no idea what youâre doing.Â
It doesnât even irritate him. It doesnât annoy him. All he can notice is how pretty you are and how good you smell. How much he loves you.
The two of you are dating, a year today. Itâs your anniversary and you chose to play video games with him, instead of asking to go out. You chose to do what he likes over what you like.
Itâs so admirable. Youâre so admirable.
Heâs never said it, neither have you. Those three words havenât left either of your mouths, mainly because he explained to you that it took him a while to fall in love. You respected him enough to hold in your love for him, so you wouldnât freak him out.Â
And heâs realizing it now. How much he loves you. How much you make him melt.Â
Heâs so focused on how much he adores you to realize heâs been staring. He dies in the game, a loud sound leaving the TV. He doesnât even flinch, his eyes still so closely looking you over.
You giggle and he snaps back to reality. His cheeks go pink, his face feels warm. For the first time in his life, heâs blushing.Â
âIâm better than you!â You giggle, smiling at him and pointing at the TV.Â
You have more kills and less deaths. You seem so proud of yourself. Itâs cute, he thinks.Â
âI love you,â he blurts out, not even processing what he said before itâs already escaped his lips.
You freeze. He freezes.Â
ââŠI love you,â he mumbles again, as if to confirm that he really meant it.
âI love you too,â a small smile curls onto your lips.Â
