WWC’s A Beginner’s Guide to Academic Research
We are pleased to present WWC’s A Beginner’s Guide to Academic Research!
This pandemic project has been over 2 years in the making and we hope it will greatly assist any of our readers who are eager to conduct in-depth research but may be at a loss where to start.
Go to the Guide Here
The guide is split into 6 parts:
Introduction and Table of Contents
Part 1: Getting Started
Part 2: Searching for Sources Online
Part 3: Evaluating Sources
Part 4: Navigating Academic Sources
Part 5: Recognizing Your Limits
Each portion of the guide has links to connect to the previous and next sections. While it is possible to view tumblr pages on phones and tablets through the app, we highly recommend viewing this guide via browser on desktop whenever possible. Tumblr page formatting is better suited for browsers and each section is very dense with information, which will make scrolling in the app or on your dashboard difficult.
Future FAQ/ Discussion:
As noted in part 5 of the guide, for the next two weeks, we will be keeping an eye on the notes for this post. If you have further questions or comments about academic research, drop them here and we will select the most pertinent to respond to in a later post.
If you find this guide helpful, we request that you consider tipping the moderators below for the work and time required from conception, to drafting, formatting and debugging. Their ko-fis are listed below:
Rina: https://ko-fi.com/arcanabean
Marika: https://ko-fi.com/5h1njuu
It's back-to-school season! Use this guide as a reference for your papers, projects, your creative writing assignments, or anything else that you might need research for.

6 Tips on Writing An Actually Inclusive Reader Insert:
1. Do a ctrl + f search of the colors red and pink. If these colors are being used to describe the reader in any way, delete it.
2. Instead of "blushing", use "goosebumps", "shivers", "avoiding eye contact", etc. It still conveys the same thing, and you can get more creative than just using "blushing" 10,000 times.
3. Don't mention being pale or becoming pale (like, seriously, this is just a given). If you want to talk about the reader looking sick or dying, use "ghastly" or "sunken eyes", etc. Again, this is a great opportunity to be more creative in your language as well as inclusive
4. For body-inclusivity, don't talk about the reader sharing clothes with someone. I personally would not fit into anything that Nancy Wheeler owns, so yeah, let's just not do this
5. Don't mention hair. A lot of us can't just wash our hair and move on with our day. Don't get me started on "running their fingers across their hair". Just refrain from descriptions of styling, washing, and touching the reader's hair.
6. Don't put pictures of pretty, white girls for "aesthetics". It honestly just deters readers, and it's just not inclusive in the slightest
That's it, that's basically all you need to do to be inclusive. I'll admit, as a lighter skin POC writer, some of these did slip my mind when I used to write, but what's important is actually listening to readers and encouraging inclusivity in your writing.
If anyone has any other suggestions, feel free to put your own.
Can I get enough of these two?
No. I can't.
Nadrika & Ria - I Fell Into a Reverse Harem Game
I don’t think I’ll ever forget how I felt when I watched Joe Wright’s 2005 Pride & Prejudice adaptation for the first time. Growing up in South America we didn’t really learn about English Literature in school, so up until then I had no idea who Jane Austen was. I had maybe seen some period films in passing, but at twelve years old, this was an entire new experience. Even back then, Mr. Darcys were not really that common, much less Elizabeth Bennett's–looking back I think Hermione was the closest example I had for a strong-minded, stubborn and intelligent female character. But with all my love for fantasy and alternative universes, there was just something fascinating about flocking gowns, courtship and intrigue amongst nobility. I mean–dubious and problematic character aside–Woody Allen made a testament of this nostalgia craving in his film Midnight in Paris.
Interestingly enough, it was around that time I started watching subbed anime, so titles which weren’t available on cable television in an era where streaming services didn’t exist. On one side I found myself fawning over Emma, the Dashwood sisters, Eugene Onegin, Pierre Bezhukov, Queen Elizabeth I, the Tudors (and Philippa Gregory’s books in general) and more. And on the other hand, I found myself gushing over shoujo manga such as Fruits Basket, Full Moon wo Sagashite, Gakuen Alice, Glass Mask, Hadashi de Bara wo Fume, HanaKimi, Ouran, amongst others. But with all my shared love for both, nowhere could I find a bridge between these worlds: an epic period romance full of intrigue with a pinch of innocence and fangirl material delight. And before anyone mentions Versailles no Bara–which I love–I consider this piece to be an exception, an outlier in the manga industry. Head resting in my chin, sighing and wishfully craving a path of conjunction, I stumbled upon the marvelous world of Korean comics: Manhwa.
Needless to say, nowadays I have a hard time reading shoujo/josei manga.
While the world of manhwa is well loved and quite present in the anime fandom, oftentimes I come across kindred souls who’ve never ventured into these magical lands, hence why I decided to compose a list of what I found most exceptional in this genre (following my personal tastes listed above). From this list I’ve excluded series that although great, fall closer to the comedic spectrum (e.g: Beware of the Villainess; I Became the Wife of the Monstrous Crown Prince; Father, I don’t Want this Marriage), ones that although enjoyable, I considered to be mid-tier (e.g: The Villainess is a Marionette; The Reason Why Raeliana Ended Up at the Duke’s Mansion; I Tamed a Tyrant and Ran Away) and even the incredible more psychological ones (e.g: Lady Devil; 19th End Century Memorandum). What was taken into consideration was an excellence in all of the following areas: well-rounded plot, character personalities, development and relationships, worldbuilding, political intrigue, reader immersion and art. So without further ado–in alphabetical order:
A Stepmother’s Märchen
Death is the Only Ending to the Villainess
Shadow Queen
The Princess Imprints on a Traitor
The Villainess Lives Again
The Way to Protect the Male Lead’s Older Brother
The Villainess Reverses the Hourglass
Untouchable Lady
Who Made Me A Princess
Why Ophelia Couldn’t Leave
And what about you guys? Any hidden gems you think are exceptional and weren’t listed here?
I love a good exchange (ノ◕ヮ◕)ノ*:・゚✧
In case you have not heard many people from Ukraine are fleeing to Poland by train however Black people are being taken out of the trains and being told that refugee status is for Ukrainians, not Africans. The ones who have spoken out regarding their experience are literally students who are in Ukraine to attend university. Regardless of where they are from or why they are there, Ukraine is a war zone and understandably they want to leave. So far Nigerians who have gone to the embassy in Ukraine have been told not to panic, and have been given zero resources. I have not seen coverage of this yet and will link sources. (x,x) I will also link this video that shares more. What's worse is that Nigerians are walking to the border after being unable to get on trains and being rejected by Poland at the border.
As Russia prepares to invade Ukraine (or maybe is already doing so), I wanted to share this message and request from Rabbi Avraham Wolf, Chief Rabbi of Odessa & Southern Ukraine. It’s from a few days ago and I’m not sure if there have been any updates but it just feels really important to signal boost this:
“The Jewish community in the Ukraine is in need of your assistance during these dire times. As the threat of war intensifies, Mishpacha Chabad Odessa is preparing to support the hundreds of Jews who are unable to evacuate the country including orphans, students, and Holocaust survivors. Preparations are also underway to absorb Jewish refugees from the surrounding regions of Kharkiv, Kiev, and Dnieper.
$300,000 in donations are urgently needed to purchase medical gear, protective equipment, and basic necessities such as clothes and sleeping bags. Money is also needed to help stock emergency shelters with several tons of cereal, buckwheat, sugar, rice, flour and other non-perishable staples. These donations will also help defray the costs of additional security personnel arriving from Israel to help protect the Jewish community.
Your generous donation will help ensure that the Jewish community of Odessa is prepared for all eventualities and is able to provide security, shelter, and food for everyone in need during this dangerous time. $130,000 has already been spent in food alone - but much more is still needed.”

Hi, guys!
As you may know, I am Ukrainian. I live in Kyiv. I have lived here since I was born and I love my country with my whole heart.
I see a lot of misinformation under the tag "Ukraine". Most of it comes from American people, who try to explain the conflict in their own words. They can't. It's impossible to explain if you haven't lived here. There are too many influences on this conflict. You keep looking from an american perspective, which is not crucial in understanding the conflict.
For example, have you ever had you language forbidden? Like straight up forbidden by the law? It happened to Ukrainian language a lot of times thought our history. And who did it? The Russian Empire. And it's not the end of it. The genocides, the assimilation, the deportation. Have you even researched Ukrainian history?
You do not uplift Ukrainian voices enough. And you should if you care about what's happening. If you don’t do it, you're just doing a performance of your support and activism.
Lucky for you, I am a Ukrainian person! And I am DYING TO ANSWER YOUR QUESTIONS. I scored 191/200 points on my graduation exam in history, so you can suppose I know something about Ukrainian history.
If you stand for Ukraine, uplift Ukrainian voices. Educate yourself. Learn Ukrainian history. Ask Ukrainian people
Dear followers,
As you may know I'm Ukrainian. And Ukraine is being at war with Russia for 8 years. They invaded us, they annexed Crimea, they now declared so-called DNR and LNR "independent" right after sending in their troops to support "peace" (peace my a*s). The situation is getting worse.
I ask you simply to support Ukraine, share information, protest against Russia and donate to Ukrainian charities, such as Повернись Живим (here)
💛💙
To my Ukrainian followers, stay safe and strong 🇺🇦
Love you all❤️
✨ how to change your self concept in a day (but actually instantly)
“Disregard appearances, conditions, in fact all evidence of your senses that deny the fulfillment of your desire. Rest in the assumption that you are already what you want to be.” — NEVILLE GODDARD
what this will do:
break the pattern of looking for “proof” in the “3d” (aka reacting to the mirror)
it will get rid of the frustration of wanting to change the 3d — it will show you that all change happens on the inside
what it takes from you:
a one day commitment, that’s it
this is all super easy and you can do it as many times as you need
it can also work as a “reset” if your self concept has been wobbly lately
HOW IT WORKS
1. listen to this meditation immediately or shortly after you wake up
it doesn’t matter if you don’t feel feel it, it’s enough if you loosely grasp the idea
2. now for the rest of the day i want you to act like the 3D doesn’t exist. that’s it
what does that mean?
first, play around in your imagination a little. in your imagination, give yourself something that you want. it was instant, wasn’t it? and it’s without a doubt yours in the imagination, isn’t it? you just know it bc you saw it with your mind’s eye (and even if you can’t visualise, you just know it, bc in your imagination you’re in full control). this doesn’t need belief, it’s a fact (if you imagine holding an apple, an apple appears in your hand in your mind’s eye — again this is just a fact, try it — again no faith or belief needed here, it just happens)
NOW on any other day you might keep looking at the 3d / outside world and get frustrated because you cannot see your desire fulfilled in it / “it’s not here yet.” but not today!
today you will apply the following logic to it: 1. i know that i have my desire in my imagination bc i gave it to myself (this is a FACT, see above) 2. the 3d is the only thing that contradicts me having my desire 3. BUT the 3d does not exist today 4. THEREFORE i have my desire FOR REAL
by living in this logic all day you will completely lose the urge to “check” the 3d for results bc you already HAVE those results
this also means that you instantly and automatically have a perfect self concept! remember manifestation is instant in your mind — when you imagine having something, you have that instantly in your imagination — AKA manifesting is instant today bc your imagination is the ONLY reality AND you literally manifest faster than the void. you are also limitless (you can imagine anything) and in full control (it's your mind after all). your desires fulfilled are the only reality. absolutely nothing has any power over you today. hence, perfect self concept.
if you’re having doubts, tell yourself that you can have them tomorrow bc the 3d doesn’t exist today doubts don’t even make sense in this scenario bc what are you even doubting? that your desires won’t show up in the 3d? what 3d? you already have your desires, you gave them to yourself and got them instantly, you saw them with your own eyes, it’s a fact
if you perceive sth as a problem that you’re having, ask yourself if it was a problem if the 3d didn’t exist? thought so! well good news
3. last step: what to do at night
you can listen to the meditation again, but you really don’t have to
you don’t have to do any “methods” because you already have everything you want — you can imagine having more stuff if it’s fun for you you don’t have to “go to the void” to “get” your desires instantly bc you literally already have them
now this is important: if you’re worried about waking up in your “old reality” again, apply the logic again the only reality is your imagination in which you have all your desires no other reality exists that has a power over that therefore you know for a fact that you will wake up in your desired reality (since there is no other)
good night!
before you start saying it doesn’t make sense and asking how can you live like this every day, i urge you to please try it once. it’s really easy and fun and it will break A LOT of your limiting patterns i promise! enjoy!
(but of course you don’t have to, you can manifest and have a good self concept any way that works for you)
