This album is called “Fearless”, and I guess I’d like to clarify why we chose that as the title. To me, “Fearless” is not the absence of fear. It’s not being completely unafraid. To me, fearless is having fears. Fearless is having doubts. Lots of them. To me, fearless is living in spite of those things that scare you to death. Fearless is falling madly in love again, even though you’ve been hurt before…Letting go is fearless. Then, moving on and being alright…That’s fearless too. But no matter what love throws at you, you have to believe in it. You have to believe in love stories and prince charmings and happily every after. That’s why I write these songs. Because I think love is fearless.

the way the lakes is so old school, like all live instruments and a kind of grainy vinyl quality to the sound and the lyrics are mostly very flowery and extravagant like they were written in the 1800s, but then she just drops in modern aspects like cell phones, tweeting and a “name dropping sleaze” is kind of jarring in a really interesting way. kind of feels like the general vibe she is trying to get across is that she’s created this romantic, beautiful little world with her muse where they can be alone and she can process her emotions in peace with his support, but the chaos of the real world occasionally interrupts that.

the line “i was so ahead of the curve, the curve became a sphere... fell behind all of my classmates and ended up here” is dedicated to everyone who was declared gifted in elementary school and now has bad grades with a sprinkle of crippling anxiety

This line depicts beautifully how when you're the quiet one who follow all the rules in elementary school teachers appreciate you and tell you're parents how great you are but they don't notice that you're actually far behind your classmates socially and you end up being an adult with social anxiety and it feels like turning around a sphere that doesn't end. Just stuck.
