Please Support Kitazono Ryo ❤
Although there’s nothing I can do right now whilst I’m stuck at home, I wanted to do a little “call to arms/action” to get those who are going to the performances tomorrow in Paris and for those who are at home to support Kitazono Ryo in buying his merch, whether that be goods, his photobook, his perfume, stage/musical DVDs, CDs, anything that involves Ryo. I know that I’m asking for a lot here, but when considering the medical condition, we have to find a way to support him and let him know that we will all love and support him before and after surgery, whether you’re an international fan or a Japanese fan; or whether you’re a fan of him or not.
As some of you may have seen, Toumyu’s official site made a notice on the 14th of July, 2018 explaining that the actor of Kogitsunemaru, Kitazono Ryo’s eyesight has gotten weaker and was diagnosed with retinal detachment and will have to undergo surgery in Paris after the performances on the 15th of July. He won’t be having any physical presence on stage, but he will be voicing his lines for his character backstage under the recommended opinion of the doctors in Paris. If wanting to read the full details, you can find it on the Toumyu official site in Japanese, French and English: HERE
A small background about the medical condition:
The type of retinal detachment Ryo has been diagnosed with is being kept under wraps, but there’s apparently 3 different types. But a lot of people have been speculating that it might be because of the continual use of wearing coloured contact lenses for his roles on stage. But according to livedoor’s blog (via ninji), if it was his coloured contacts, that would cause a cornea instead of retinal detachment. But since we don’t know what actually caused this medical condition, it’s all just speculation as to what actually caused it. So unless a full statement is given, we won’t know the real cause.
There’s 4 different surgeries that can be done depending on the tear or small hole in the eye. The overall recovery after some research appears to be at least several (possibly 2-4) weeks for it to become reattached, but it can take some months to gain vision again (depending on the eyesight before the surgery). Although there’s another source that did a report on Ryo’s situation said that it could take up to 1-3 months in total for at least one eye to be back in some working condition. But they cannot do any excessive exercise during that recovery.
According to Ryo’s schedule on his official site, he does have some work coming up within the next 2-4 weeks after Paris.
