A thunderstorm wakes Buck up, luckily he's got Bobby and Alex to help him through it.

***
Evan âBuckâ Buckley hasnât liked storms ever since he was struck by lightning a few months ago. He knows that itâs irrational, that the odds of being struck by lightning twice were not high, but the storm woke him up anyway, and he canât seem to fall back asleep. Not even the inviting embrace of his newish boyfriend, Alex Claremont-Diaz, can lure back to sleep.Â
And he doesnât want to wake him up, so he slides out of bed and makes his way down the stairs to his kitchen. Heâd go outside if it wasnât for the storm, but he wouldnât be up if there wasnât a storm. So, instead, he decides to just focus on making one of Bobbyâs famous dishes â chili.Â
Heâs been working on it for ages, trying to get it just right. Bobbyâs been teasing him about it, and heâs determined that heâs going to get it someday.
As he gets out the ingredients, heâs not surprised by Bobbyâs text asking if heâs doing alright.Â
He takes the opportunity to call knowing that the lightning has probably gotten him up, too. Both still working through the aftermath of the lightning strike.
âDo you know the odds of getting struck by lightning twice?â he asks as soon as he sees Bobbyâs tired face, not in bed next to Athena, but also in the kitchen.
âYes, youâve told me before that itâs a long-shot, but kid, I hope you realize that youâve had some pretty long-short odds yourself before or do I need to remind you of how amazing it is that youâre still here or you still have a leg?â Bobby retorts, looking surprisingly content with the knowledge despite what heâs saying.
âAnd here, I thought you were calling me to check in on me,â Buck teases. âMake me feel better about the storm and the lightning.â
Bobby laughs and ignores that bit. âWhat are you making?â
âI was going to try and perfect your chili.â
âIâd be happy to help you.â
âGreat.â
***
Alex wakes to the smell of chili and slight laughter wafting up the stairs and an empty bed. He knows that Buck isnât fond of storms, so heâs not really surprised that he isnât sleeping.
But he is a bit curious as to why heâs laughing as he makes his way down the steps of the loft in just Buckâs oversized (on him) LAFD t-shirt and his underwear. It quickly becomes clear that heâs on the phone with Bobby, his captain and somewhat of a father figure for Buck, who is the only person Alex has met in Buckâs life as of yet.
He smiles when Buck looks up from his phone and the pot and smiles a bit shyly. âSorry, did I wake you?â
Alex shakes his head and offers a teasing smile. âNot exactly, you just made me hungry.â
Buck wiggles his eyebrows which causes laughter from the phone and from Alex.
âHere, come try this,â Buck offers. âBobbyâs been helping me perfect it.â
Alex moves around the island to Buckâs side accepting the spoonful of chili. Â
âThatâs amazing,â he says, after swallows. Thereâs a look of utter pride on Buckâs face, and Alex can glance down to see that that thereâs an equally proud look on Bobbyâs face. âDefinitely the worldâs perfect chili made at two-thirty in the morning.â
Buck laughs and nods at the lightning flashing through the window. âBobby and I couldnât sleep, so we decided to cook.â
Alex smiles at looks at the phone. âSo, you both made pots of chili?â
Bobby smiles. âYes, we opted to create my famous chili together so now we have a good excuse to invite everyone over and enjoy it tomorrow once the storm settles.â
Alex glances at Buck uncertainly, the only person heâd met so far had been Bobby, and that was an accident was Buck really ready to introduce him around?
âIâve been wanting to introduce you to the team for ages, and the weather already looks like itâs starting to clear,â Buck says, nodding at the clouds moving away through the glass windows and the way that the thunder and lightning has begun to lessen, the rain softening as well.
Alex can tell that this means a lot to Buck, and heâs been wanting to meet Buckâs family for some time. âIâd love that.â
âAwesome,â Buck says, giving him a kiss.
âNow that the chili is done and the lightning has ceased, maybe we should pack this up and get some sleep?â Bobby suggests. âBring it by later, say two?â
âSounds perfect,â Buck admits. âSee you then.â
âGood night.â
Buck hands up the phone and shares a look with Alex. âYou know, Iâm not particularly into sleeping right now. Maybe we could clean this up and have some fun instead.â
Alex grins, smiling brightly. âLove the sound of that.â
âGood.â
***
The sun is shining.Â
Thereâs no sign of storm the night before.Â
A stormy night to a perfect day for a barbeque.Â
Buck canât help smiling as everyone enjoys the chili that he and Bobby made. Both nearly identical, almost impossible to tell apart, which proves that he really is learning when it comes to cooking Bobbyâs family recipes.Â
âDonât fill up on chili,â Bobby states as he sits beside Buck smiling at Alex playing with Jee. Heâs so good with kids and Buck just hopes that someday they could be good with their own kids. âI made dessert after our call.â
âOh? You know dessert isnât always ââ
âI made your favorite dessert,â Bobby interjects. âYouâll love it, I promise.â
Buck hums. He does like the sound of that. âAlright, youâre on. I guess I could have dessert today.â
âGood.âÂ
Thereâs a pause as Bobby follows Buckâs eyeline to Alex.Â
âHe fits right in, you know,â he offers with a smile. âAnd you seem to really like him.â
Buck grins at him. âI do; I really like him a lot. And I could easily see a future with him.â
âGood,â Bobby states. âHeâs a good one, and you deserve the best.â
âThanks, Bobby, I really appreciate that.â
âGood.â
Alex yells for him to join him and Jee and Buck doesnât hesitate to do just that.Â
Happy that heâs found his future, and his family loves him, too.Â
Itâs perfect and everything that heâs ever wanted.

***
Casey smiles as he spies Severide coming his way, clearly looking to be a little clingy as the guys like to call it, but the guys have no idea that the prank was more than a prank for them or that Casey much prefers spending time with his secret new boyfriend over spending time with his crew.Â
Especially today of all days.
âI know that you said that didnât want to do anything for Valentineâs Day,â Severide starts, looking like heâs up to something with whatever heâs holding behind his back. âBut I saw this and I couldnât resist.â
He offers Casey a box of what he could only be chocolates as he comes into Caseyâs office. He still misses him a little bit having an office that doesnât share a wall with his own, but it gives a bit more privacy being in the Captainâs Quarters.
Casey hums, as he accepts it.Â
In truth, he didnât think cheesy hallmark holidays were really Severideâs thing. Itâs not that he said that, but it was their first Valentineâs Day together and heâs never actually seen the man be excited for a Valentineâs Day before (not even when he was engaged to the first Renee, who he had been with for long enough to celebrate the holiday) and didnât want him to feel obligated to do anything, especially if it wasnât really his thing.
âChocolates?â Casey teases with a smile.Â
Severide gives him a smug grin. âSort of?â
Curious, Casey opens the box to find chocolate covered strawberries. âAphrodisiacs? At work?â
Severide hums as he closes the door. âWell, you have been teasing that youâve always been interested in getting fucked over your desk. Something, something ⊠sometimes it might be fun to do a little role playing. Thought maybe the strawberries could help get you in the mood and forget about all of the people not that far away.â
Casey can feel his dick harden at the thought, even though theyâve only had sex once in his new office (breaking all of their rules for secrecy) since he became captain. âItâs not just the people that could ⊠catch us, there could be an alarm ââ
âAnd doesnât that make this all the more exciting?â Severide teases, as he moves around Caseyâs desk to lean against it on Caseyâs side of the desk. He pulls his chair out, slightly, and he can see just how hard Severide already is.Â
Severide reaches into the box and offers one of the strawberries to Casey. He takes a bite of the dangling chocolate covered fruit, and it is unbelievably hot. Combining Severideâs love of chocolate with Caseyâs love of fruit â utterly perfect combination.Â
Plus, Severide leaning against his desk, looking at him like heâs some sort of snack⊠so fucking hot.
âFuck,â Casey groans, before heâs up and out of his chair. He grabs Severideâs face and kisses him, passionately.
Their teeth clang a little bit, and he has to adjust, but it only takes a second before Severideâs dropped the rest of the strawberry into the box and wrapped his arms around his back. His hands squeezing Caseyâs ass, but Caseyâs more focused on his lips, his tongue diving into Severideâs mouth.Â
Heâs tasting Severideâs favorite Gatorade and chocolate that he clearly stole from the display for the holiday that the paramedics insist they put up and heâs never loved a taste more.Â
He hums and groans, as he grinds against Severide.Â
Severide laughs through the kiss as his hands move to Caseyâs belt. Caseyâs still got a grip on his face, kissing him and kissing him and not wanting to stop, butâŠ
âWhat⊠are ⊠you ⊠doing?â he asks through hushed kisses. It doesnât matter that his new office is across the way, heâs way too worried about their secret getting out to be too loud, even though he knows that Severideâs got a thing for loud partners.
âI was â I thought⊠it ⊠was ⊠obviousâŠâ Severide retorts through their kisses. He canât stop; he doesnât want to stop. He wants to keep kissing him even as he gets his answers.
It hasnât been that long, and heâs already addicted to Severideâs kisses, especially when heâs got free access to his lips. Itâs everything to him, right now.
Casey hums, still kissing him. âJust⊠kiss ⊠me.â
Severide shifts to sit on his desk. Legs spread, and pulling Casey between them. âAlright, baby, hot make-out it is.â
âNo,â Casey says, pushing back, slightly. âI wanna make out with you, but no, no, baby.â
Severide gives him an appraising look, but hums. âAlright, Case, as you wish.â
âGood.â
He dives back in, still in control. Their lips gliding together, seamlessly.Â
He loves how easy this is, wonders how long he mightâve waited if they hadnât kissed during their prank on the house. He couldâve been missing out on so much.
Unfortunately, the alarm blares. Engine 51, Truck 81, Squad 3, Ambo 61âŠ
They jerk apart, and even disappointed, Casey knows⊠the job comes first.Â
***
The call takes a while and itâs bedtime by the time that they get back, exhausted from the call. Casey doesnât think much about the date or anything else, just takes a quick shower and heads straight to his new office, Didrikson nodding at him as he heads to Caseyâs old office. Heâd been thrilled when Casey had opted to take the Captainâs office (partially because after his Severide complaint that involved Severideâs temporary demotion, he wanted to keep Didrikson happy â and he knows heâd be pissed to miss out on an office just because Casey wanted to keep his old office).Â
And if he and Severide got caught together, he knows heâd put up a stink (thankfully, he had never believed their prank could be real at all). So, him being happy is necessary.
Still, despite being worried about getting caught, heâs not going to complain about Severideâs sometimes showing up in his office to kiss him.Â
Heâs still not confident in what he is, but he knows that heâs crazy about kissing that man.Â
He enters his quarters intent on going to sleep only to find Severide laying naked in his bed.Â
âSev!â Casey hisses, shocked. He quickly closes the door and takes in Severide stroking himself in Caseyâs new bed. âWhat if â what are you doing?â
Severide laughs with a smug grin. âThought that was obvious, but if I need to teach you about ââ
âYou know thatâs not what I meant,â Casey says, throwing the lock and grabbing the box with the strawberries.
He knows that he shouldnât â that sex in the firehouse is not advisable. That theyâd be tempting fate and heâd just been thinking about what they would do if they got caught, but ⊠fuck⊠his secret new boyfriend is hot and hard and laying naked in his bed and⊠who was he to say no?
Severideâs eyes follow every movement as he divulges himself of his clothes after putting the box on the little table next to the bed, moving closer to the bed as he does. His hand freezes as Casey moves to straddle him, his dick hard and wanting.Â
âI donât have lube,â Casey says, as he leans over him, straddling him, already feeling so hot and bothered as if the time between their make-out and now hadnât existed.Â
One hand on either side of Severideâs head. Severideâs looking at him like heâs a meal, and Casey has to wonder just how long heâd been laying in bed teasing himself.Â
âYou have a mouth, donât you?â Severide teases, eyes dark with arousal and teasing. He thrusts up a little and Casey bends down and kisses him, long and lingering.Â
âYou lay in my bed, teasing me, and I have to go first,â Casey retorts, leaning back and grabbing a strawberry to feed him. âHardly seems fair.â
Severide accepts the strawberry and says, âItâs what you get for teasing me earlier with no plans to get me off,â as Casey runs a hand down his chest.
âI was working, and you came in with aphrodisiacs and somehow thatâs me teasing you?â
Severide hums as Casey feeds him the rest of the strawberry.Â
âWell, I intended to blow you, soâŠâ
He makes a good point and while Severideâs laying naked in his bed, thereâs really no use denying himself.Â
So, he leans down and kisses him. His lips, his jaw, his neck.Â
He shuffles down as he kisses Severideâs chest, teasing hm a little by sucking on his nipples and having to shush him so that he doesnât attract attention even if everyoneâs asleep in another room.
He relishes the feeling of his chest hair as he kisses his way down to Severideâs dick.Â
Itâs still new, still different, but he loves the taste of the salty pre-come that pools at the tip. He loves Severideâs intake of breath when he blows on it after he swirls his tongue around the top and licks up the pre-come from the slit. He loves the heaviness on his tongue as he wraps his mouth around his dick.
He swirls his tongue as he bobs his head, letting Severideâs moans and the feeling of his hands in his hair direct him on speed. If they were anywhere else and he wasnât worried about getting caught, heâd probably tease and prolong the pleasure, but thatâs not the case and he knows Severideâs been on edge since they made-out this afternoon.
Severideâs never been one to hold back, so he warns, âClose,â and Casey sucks harder, being rewarded less than thirty seconds later with the salty taste of cum in his mouth.Â
He catches all of it, pulling back to the tip as he does before popping off with a pleased grin. âSatisfied?â
âMaybe,â Severide teases, pulling him up to align with him again.Â
He kisses him, seemingly not minding the taste of his own cum on Caseyâs lips. Â It feels like he likes chasing himself as he kisses Casey, shifting them without ever breaking the kiss so Caseyâs on his back, legs spread and dick still aching.Â
âYour turn?â
âPlease,â Casey pants.
Severide grins. âAs you wish.â
***
âSo,â Severide hums as they climb into his car the next morning. âFor our first Valentineâs Day, that was ⊠fun, no?â
Casey laughs, somewhat pleased, as they pull away from the curb and link their hands. âWell, I â yeah, I guess it was probably my favorite Valentineâs Day date â if you can count it as a date.â
âWell, the best I can do since we were working,â Severide offers. âAnd I ââ he hesitates.Â
He knows that theyâre both rather new to this but also wonders how it differs being with a man instead of a woman. Most of the women heâd been with, regardless of we donât have to do anything wouldâve been angry that all he did was tease him at work and buy him strawberries.Â
âSev?â Casey prompts, knowing thereâs something heâs not saying. âWhat is it?â
âI, well, I â I know you said that you didnât want to do anything, so I was trying to â you know, follow that request while still celebrating us,â he says, a bit uncertainly. Grateful that he has to focus on the road.
He can feel Casey giving him a soft look, and the squeeze of the hand that heâs holding.Â
âDamn, Sev, and here, I thought I already knew everything about you,â he says, softly.Â
âWhatâs that mean?â Severide questions, frowning slightly as he glances at Casey.Â
Casey lifts their linked hands to his lips, kissing the back of his hand. âIt means that I thought you hated hallmark holidays, every time youâve had a girlfriend for a holiday like Valentineâs Day, youâve complained about how much more effort had to go into presents and dinner dates, and how youâre always at a loss on what to do ââ
âThatâs because usually Iâd only been dating them for a few weeks, max,â Severide replies. âMaybe a couple of months.â
âWeâve only been dating for a couple of months,â Casey retorts. He pauses. âMaybe more like a few? Since Mid-November.â
âIt was three months the other day,â Severide retorts, not that heâs counting, but he wanted to make sure that he doesnât miss a milestone. He doesnât want to miss an opportunity to show his love to Casey and remembering those things were important in relationships (at least as far has he could tell from his many relationships with women). âBut thatâs not the point, we may have only been dating since November, but I â I mean, living together, raising the boys, being best friends for our entire adult lives ⊠I kinda feel like Iâd know what youâd might like for a day of candy and hearts, so it wouldnât really be difficult in the way that other Valentineâs Days have been.â
He can see Casey giving him a soft, pleased look out of the corner of his eye as he turns down their alley to get to their garage, but he waits until Severideâs parked, letting his hand go temporarily so he can do it before taking it back in hand.Â
He turns in his seat to face him, giving him this look as if heâs just so damn in love with him, as he lifts his hand to his lips, but not kissing it just yet.Â
âSev, I thought I was trying to do what you might want, but I shouldnât have without talking to you about it, so if you wanna take me out on a Valentineâs Day date, even belated, youâre more than welcome to do it,â he assures him, kissing his hand once again.
Heâs surprised by how much he does want that. Or at least just a date. The two of them.
The only real date theyâve had has been their annual not-date (now date?) to the Blackhawks game just after Christmas and while it had been the best first date ever, he kinda feels bad that they havenât had any other nights out.
âI do want that,â Severide admits. âI just â I know we canât come out at the firehouse, but I do wanna celebrate being with you. I wanna be like every other couple, I canât show you off, but I can still take you out.â
âMe too,â Casey assures him, leaning forward and giving him a kiss. âI get it â this is different for both of us and new, and I want to do the same thing. So, since we have watch on Saturday, why donât I see if Christie will take the boys after school on Friday and you and I can have our first Valentineâs Day date together?â
Severide grins, stomach all a flutter. âI like the sound of that.â
Casey's still getting used to the change in their relationship, but there's nothing better than getting to enjoy sleeping together (in more than one way).

Casey laughs and shakes his head as he enters their bedroom after checking that the boys are sound asleep to find Severide laying out on their bed all seductively in just his underwear.Â
Itâs not any different to any other night that theyâve shared the bed, and itâs not even their first night since theyâve kissed to share a bed â they literally shared a bed the next day after their first kiss.
Yet, somehow, weeks later with the prank over and not getting enough of Severideâs kisses and knowing that heâs already sharing his bed with his brand-new boyfriend, it feels a bit different.
âYou know, this is still so different, and yet, not much has changed,â Casey teases as he climbs into his side of the bed. âStill sharing a bed, still sleeping together, and yet, youâre lying on our bed still dressed the same way youâve been for the last nearly three years and yetâŠâ
Severide smiles and shifts up on one elbow, a hand wandering down his own chest to his dick. âAnd yet, itâs different.â
Casey licks his lips and leans forward to kiss him. âBecause now, itâs not just sleeping.â
âIt can be,â Severide offers, despite the way his eyes are roaming over Caseyâs body and his arousal is already present in his eyes and hard dick. âWe donât have to do anything.â
Casey hums. Heâs tempted to just tease Severide, but he also really, really loves getting his mouth on the man.
He wants to do more with him than just sleep.Â
Itâs like one kiss and all of his sexual desires that heâs had locked away and forgotten about since the boys became theirs has been unleashed and he canât get enough of him. Especially since he discovered the joys of sucking dick. Fuck, he has no idea how he went so long without dick in his mouth until now.
âYou know it felt like it took me forever to feel comfortable sharing a bed in just my underwear with you, but I always felt comfortable with you holding me, probably a sign or something,â he says, running a hand down his chest. Pushing him slightly onto his back.Â
Severide lets out an oomph as Casey straddles him, both hands roaming over his chest, enjoying the way Severideâs eyes track his movements, his breath quickening in anticipation.Â
âI loved the way we never even tried to stay on separate sides of the bed, always knew weâd wake up cuddled together,â Casey offers, looking down at him, running his hands over Severideâs chest, fingering his scars and bruises. âAlways wanted to wake up cuddled together.â
Severideâs breath is quick as he watches his movements, hands behind his head, letting Casey take control. Heâs been so good about this. Heâs usually the one in control, teasing, tasting, Casey loves being teased with that oral fixation of his, but he also loves this, too.
Loves seeing the look in Severideâs eyes as he lets Casey indulge himself and take his time to admire Severideâs hard-worked-for body. All that time with the weights and running makes him unbelievably hot and Casey loves to enjoy his body like this.
âThatâs because we decided to share a bed because someone missed cuddling, and you just knew that Iâd be the perfect cuddle bear.â
Heâs teasing and smiling, enjoying Caseyâs attention.
Casey hums and leans down to kiss one of his scars, then another, and another.Â
He leans back and traces the scars with his fingertips. âI shouldâve realized, then.â
Severide hums, breathing a little heavy. âSomeday, youâre going to realize we probably had too much shit going on, then.â
Casey laughs as he leans down to kiss them, again. This time with the goal of moving a little bit lower. âWe definitely had a lot of shit to deal with, but now, I keep seeing all these moments a bit⊠differently. You in our bed, in your underwear. Waking up wrapped up in your arms. The warm weight of you against me. Adjusting our lives for each other as well as the boys.â
He's still kissing the scars through every few words. Inching further down Severideâs body.Â
He can see Severideâs arousal in his eyes, feel it against him, even as he tries to focus on the conversation.Â
âWe always slept better together,â Severide offers, swallowing hard as he tries to be good and pay attention. âThose nights without you â when we were on different shifts, I was surprised that I didnât sleep nearly as well as I sleep with you.â
âMmm, me too,â Casey admits. Still kissing his scars, getting closer and closer to Severideâs hard dick pressing against his underwear.Â
âAre you ââ Severide starts but stops as Casey wraps his mouth around Severideâs dick through his underwear. âOh, fuck,â he gasps.
Casey gives him a devious look as he gets his dick wet through the surprisingly thin fabric.Â
âFuck, Case,â Severide groans, eyes locked on Caseyâs as he continues to tease his dick but not quite giving him what he wants. âWhat are you â just â just take it out,â he groans.
âSay please,â Casey teases, still teasing his dick through the fabric.Â
âPlease, asshole,â Severide retorts, a second later.Â
Casey grins smugly at him as he pulls off his underwear, throwing them across the room not caring where they land. Instead, heâs focused on his new favorite activity â sucking Severideâs dick.Â
He licks the tip, getting the salty taste of pre-come on his tongue. He licks his lips while eyes locked on Severide, who gulps. âFuck, thatâs hot.â
âGood,â Casey says, panting a little.Â
He licks his dick from base to tip, swirling around the head, eliciting more pre-come. Severide makes to grab his head as if to bury his hands in his hair, but Casey shakes his head.Â
âBe good and keep your hands to yourself right now,â Casey orders, noting the way that Severide wiggles a little at the tone, swallows hard, and grabs the sheets instead.Â
âFuck, thatâs â thatâs hotter than it should be,â he groans, and he doesnât mean the dick-sucking.Â
Casey hums around his dick, causing him to whither and moan.Â
âFaster, please.â
Happy to comply and enjoy that taste of Severide that heâs been chasing all this time, he begins to suck and lick in earnest. Speeding up and fondling his balls, clearly wanting to bring him over the edge.Â
Once heâs actually trying and not just teasing, itâs easy for Severide to fall over the edge with a moan of his name and a clench of the sheets.Â
Heâs breathing heavy as Casey swallows it all and kisses his way up his body. Â Reveling in kissing his scars once again and grinning smugly at Severide as he catches his breath.Â
âFuck, Case, that was ââ
âYour favorite blowjob ever?â Casey teases and Severide surprises him with a kiss.
âAbsolutely brilliant,â Severide retorts, sincerely, as he breaks the kiss.Â
âGood, bet you canât beat it,â Casey dares, and Severideâs eyes brighten at the challenge.Â
âChallenge accepted.â

In the morning, after a night of teasing each other over who gives the better blowjobs (they both argue that they won and concede that as long as theyâre doing it together, they both win), Caseyâs happy and smiling as he wakes with Severideâs arms around him, feeling loved, safe, and wanted.
Heâs on his side, and Severideâs spooning him. One arm slung around his waist, the other underneath his pillows. He can feel Severideâs lips on the back for his neck and wiggles even closer to him.Â
Thereâs nothing better than waking up after a good nightâs sleep in best friend and boyfriendâs arms.Â
And he canât wait to do it every day for the rest of his life.Â
Casey enjoys discovering himself with Severide, especially since Severide makes him feel like a teenager again that can't get enough of his secret boyfriend.
Meanwhile, Casey has become captain and Severide has an idea for the ideal gift to celebrate, only problem is that Casey disagrees.

Thereâs something nice about getting to drive his truck to work. Itâs not nearly as often as heâd like because they usually have to drop the boys off at school and Severide prefers his cool car over Caseyâs truck which only has three seats.Â
Thereâs the hum of the music from the radio, his hand is laced with Severideâs, but heâs looking out the window. Every so often as they stop for lights or due to traffic, he squeezes their hands.
âYou know, Iâve been thinkingâŠâ Severide starts.
âSounds dangerous,â he teases, giving him a slight glance as he drives.
âOh, fuck off,â Severide retorts, rolling his eyes.
âIâd rather fuck you,â Casey jokes.
Severide laughs and gives him a grin. âYou already did it this morning, itâs why youâve been smiling since we left the house. Late.â
âAnd here I thought it was just because I get to drive my truck today,â he teases.Â
âYouâre an asshole.â
âAnd yet, you love me.âÂ
He sends him a grin that causes him to laugh. They havenât actually admitted it, but to be fair, neither of them really needed to. Everything theyâve been through together, they know.
Severide lifts their joined hands and kisses the back of his hand. âCan I say what I was thinking about now?â
âGo ahead.â
âYou should get a new truck.â
âWhat?â Casey asks, as he pulls over in front of the firehouse. âWhy?â
âBecause youâre captain now and your truck is a billion years old,â Severide offers as they let go and roll up the windows on the truck.Â
âIt runs just fine,â Casey retorts as they get out of the truck, no longer holding hands because no one knows that theyâre together as they start the walk up to the firehouse with their bags over their shoulders. âIâve taken excellent care of my truck and thereâs nothing wrong with it.â
âThere doesnât have to be something wrong with it for you to get a new truck,â Severide retorts.
âWhy waste the money on a new truck when mine runs just fine?â
âBecause you deserve a reward, and we have enough for you to get a new one.â
Heâs not necessarily wrong. Theyâre in a good place even with Severideâs new car from last year, but itâs not really about the money either â not for Casey anyway. He loves his truck, and he wants to keep it as long as possible.
âI think youâre confusing which one of us would consider getting a new car as a reward,â he deadpans.Â
Severide rolls his eyes. âDonât you think after twenty years that you deserve a new truck? Maybe something new and shiny and doesnât require you to manually roll up the windows.â
âNah, I think Iâll leave buying new and shiny things to you since you did just get a new car less than a year ago.â
âThat wasnât my fault. I wasnât just going for new and shiny, I had to get a new car,â he retorts. âIt was beyond repair.â
Casey stops just inside the doors and gives him a look because they both know that it was at least partially his fault for getting as drunk as he did that night it was stolen and crashed beyond repair.
âOkay, fine, it wasnât entirely my fault,â he concedes. âI wasnât randomly deciding that I needed a fancy new car. I had to get one and I got a car that works better for our family than my mustang, even if it is still new and shiny.â
âFair enough,â Casey says, walking down the hall towards his new quarters.Â
Which is still a little weird, but it made Didrikson happy to have his own quarters again and Severideâs helped him see the usefulness of having quarters that are just his whenever they couldnât control themselves (despite a talk about rules at the firehouse) and Severide follows him because he clearly wants to continue arguing his point.
âAnyway, I donât need a new truck.â
âYou donât have need a new truck to get one.â
âI donât want a new truck.â
Luckily, before the argument could continue the alarm blares, thankfully.

Later, when Caseyâs sitting at the table behind the couch in the common room, his paperwork spread out over the table, and the chatter of the guys from Truck and Squad around him as they wait for dinner, heâs unsurprised when Cruz asks, âSo, I heard that youâre thinking about getting a new truck.â
Casey looks from him to a smirking Severide. âGee, I wonder where you got that idea.â
âYou misheard me, Cruz, I never said he was thinking about getting a new truck,â Severide offers, still grinning in his up to something way. âI said that I wanted to convince him to get a new truck.â
âAnd either way â itâs not happening,â he retorts.Â
âWhy not?â Mouch questions. âYou have had that truck for years.â
âItâs the only truck or car heâs ever owned,â Severide adds. âAnd heâs had it for nearly twenty years.â
âI like my truck and as long as it still runs, why change it?â
âI can think of a million reasons.â
âName one that isnât itâs a reward or new and shiny,â Casey asks, sarcastically.
Severide grins in a way that tells him that whatever heâs going to suggest as a reason is definitely something that neither of them should say out loud in front of the firehouse.Â
âDonât even think about it,â he deadpans. Glaring at him into silence.
Cruz frowns. âHe didnât say anything.â
âHe didnât have to.â
âJust âcause you can read his mind doesnât mean that the rest of us can, and weâre curious,â Otis says.Â
âYeah, what were you thinking, Severide?â Tony asks.Â
He gives him a look that says donât you dare, before he gathers his things and heads his office.Â
âNah, I think Iâm going to keep this between us.â
âYou two are so weird.â
***
Heâs not surprised when Severide enters his office a few minutes later, and says, âCome on, how much fun would it be to break in your new truck together,â as soon as he closes the door.
âWe havenât even broken in this truck,â Casey teases, as Severide moves to toss himself on Caseyâs bed, but not before pulling off his shirt because he knows how distracting he is without a shirt. All the hours he puts into his body has suddenly become one of Caseyâs biggest distractions. âOur date nights always end up being at home where we donât even get more than ten minutes into the movie.â
Severide props himself up on his elbows, his chest tightening at the shift. Itâs deeply unfair that heâs trying to distract him like this with that stupid knowing grin that Casey finds stupidly attractive. How had he not noticed this before, heâll never understand.
âBecause even if we did have a date where we fucked in your truck, I wouldnât be the first one to do that with you there and donât even think about lying, I remember you telling me and Andy about your first time with Hallie in that truck.â
âIs that why you want to me to get a new truck?â Casey asks as he moves to sit on the edge of the bed. One hand roaming over his well-toned chest, a warmth in his stomach that makes him want to make use of the private quarters, but with his luck, someone would catch them. âBecause you want to christen it like teenagers?â
Severide shifts to sit up and kisses him, soft and sweet, and makes him want more. He follows after him when he pulls away, falling back to the bed, turning the kiss into more as he shifts to straddle him, lips sliding together seamlessly.
He nearly loses himself in the taste of Severide â like the cherry Gatorade heâd been drinking â as he lets his hands wander down his chest to his belt, feeling Severideâs hands wandering down his back to his ass, but before he could consider breaking his rule, someone knocks.
âHey, dinnerâs ready!â Gallo yells through the door.
He breaks the kiss and trying not to sound like heâs breathing a little heavy, he says, âGreat, thanks, be there in a minute.â
âGood.â
He can hear Galloâs footsteps walking away as he shares a playfully annoyed look with Severide.Â
âIâm tempted to skip dinner, you?â he teases, eyes bright and twinkling.
Casey swallows, hard, as he takes in Severide grinning and hard, and shifts slightly which brings Severideâs eyes down to Caseyâs own hardness on display.  Heâs sorely tempted, but ultimately, he gets off of him, turns away and grabs Severideâs shirt to give back to him. âThey might come looking, again.â
âWe could make it quick ââ
âAnd that would be obvious,â he says, standing and offering Severide a hand to help him up.Â
âAnd this isnât,â Severide asks, gesturing at the strain in their pants.Â
âWe just need a moment or two to calm down, not ten minutes to get off with each other,â he counters. âToo much of a delay, and itâll be obvious. And we agreed that we wanted to keep this to ourselves for a while.â
Severide hums, as he pulls on his shirt and lets Casey pull him to his feet. âCan you just consider it?â
âHaving sex in this office, trust me, I am deeply considering it right now,â Casey retorts and even to him he can hear the strangle in his voice.
He rolls his eyes. âNo, the thing about the truck.â
Casey sighs. âFine. Iâll consider it.â
âGood.â
***
By the time they got back in the truck and home, Casey had been so horny that heâs amazed that he made it home rather than choosing some back alley to have fun with him. They barely make it inside (grateful that the boys are already at school) before he pushes Severide up against the entryway wall and door to the basement and kisses him passionately.Â
Severide laughs when he moves from his lips to his jaw, feeling the stubble that filled in over the last day.Â
âDamn, Case,â he groans, as he pushes him back, slightly. âWe should at least get our coats off before you have your way with me.â
Casey leans back and grins, panting a little bit. âYouâre right.  Youâre much better without clothes.â
He drops his bag and jerks his coat off, throwing it in the way of the couch, but not caring if it lands, instead, watching as Severide follows suit with a laugh on his lips and delighted eyes.  The second his coat is off, Casey pulls on the hem of Severideâs shirt, who lets him pull it off. Then, he returns his kisses to his jaw and his neck. His hands wandering down his well-toned chest.
He feels Severide chuckling against his lips, his hands wandering over Caseyâs shoulders and in his hair, letting him do what he so desperately wants. His hands play with Severideâs belt as he kisses his way down his chest, falling to his knees as he does.  Â
With the belt undone, he pulls Severideâs pants down and laughs when he realizes that heâs not wearing underwear.Â
He sits back on his heels, hard-on straining against his jeans but laughing as he looks up at Severide, eyebrows raised. âSeriously? How old are you?â
Severideâs laughing. âThe guy who canât control himself and was half-hard the entire drive home is teasing me about not wearing underwear?â
Heâs running his hands through Caseyâs hair chuckling and smiling down at him, amusement clear on his face.Â
Casey runs his hands over Severideâs thighs, still chuckling. âAt least Iâm wearing underwear.â
Severide pulls him to his feet and pushes him against the front door. âNot for long.â
He kisses him as he fumbles with Caseyâs belt, and Casey finds he doesnât mind the way that Severideâs taken control. His pants fall to the ground, and his underwear is jerked down and off, too. He lifts his right leg around his waist to pull them flush against each other. Â
Severide finds a little bottle of lube that he uses on their dicks, and he vaguely wonders where it came from, but he quickly gets lost in Severideâs efforts to get him off.
Severideâs kissing his neck as they rub their dicks together. The friction is nice as he lets his head fall back and enjoys the sensations of Severideâs attention that causes him to groan and moan.Â
Itâs ridiculous that heâs already close, especially since Severide had managed to convince him to have fun late last night (or early this morning) at the firehouse. âClose.â
âGood,â Severide pants, and doesnât stop. Itâs clear he wants to make him come just like this, too hot and bothered to make it passed the doorway like a couple of teenagers and he knows that he absolutely can since itâs not even the first time.
Itâs as Severide bites his neck that he comes with a moan.Â
âFuck, Sev,â he pants.Â
Severide chuckles, as he licks his neck, coming himself. âI left a mark.â
Casey laughs. âLike a fucking teenager.â
âSays the guy that barely let us get through the door,â Severide says, with a grin, clearly pleased with himself. âNow, come on, letâs go shower and take a nap.â
âGladly.â
***
âYou know, you should really start wearing a shirt at home more often,â Casey says, as he pants beside him. After their shower and nap, he had tried to get some work done, but then Severide had come in from his run without a shirt and heâd instantly gotten distracted. âOtherwise, I might never get any work done.â
Severide laughs, breathing a bit heavy as he pulls Casey into his arms. âIf I was wearing my shirt, then you wouldnât have gotten distracted from your paperwork, and we wouldnât have had sex in the middle of the afternoon.â
He rolls his eyes as he uses Severideâs chest as a pillow. He still canât believe that he went from perfectly fine not getting any to every time Severideâs without his shirt, he canât control himself.Â
âItâs deeply unfair that for years you were always going around without a shirt and I never felt anything, then you kissed me and now, I can barely control myself.â
âI think weâre just making up for lost time,â Severide teases, kissing the top of his head, and rubbing circles on his back.
Casey laughs and draws shapes on Severideâs stomach. âCan you imagine what it wouldâve been like all this time if weâd been together? I think we wouldâve driven each other crazy.â
âOr â or we wouldâve resolved our fights with sex in the turnout room and the entire firehouse wouldâve gotten endless shows,â Severide teases.Â
The idea did have some merit, but heâs sure that wouldâve quickly led one of them to be sent away to another house. Probably him.
Casey shakes his head. âPretty sure that the guys wouldâve complained about that. As it is, weâre lucky that no oneâs seen my inability to control myself lately.â
âI think theyâd be happy for us.â
âMaybe â maybe not.â
Itâs the one thing that has made this a little bit harder for them. Theyâve been teased for three years about this, but itâs different to tease than it is for it to be real. Especially with Casey as captain. After the whole Dawson thing, heâs not sure itâll go over well â him being in charge of another one of his partners.
Severide seems to sense where his thoughts had gone as he rubs his back and kisses the top of his head. âHey, weâve been doing good at work since that first fight.â
That first fight had been a doozy.Â
Caseyâs intended promotion had been in play before they got together. Heâd applied and took the test before the prank (when Boden had met with the Lieutenants of 51, stating that the CFD wanted to have at least one Captain at each firehouse and therefore, each Chief was to talk to their lieutenants about the promotion). The meeting with all of the lieutenants had left Casey as the only one interested, and Didriksonâs concerns about their friendship as a problem had led them to talk that out.
They believed that it would be perfectly fine, especially when the other lieutenants seemed to agree that it wouldnât be an issue, but when the prank happened and changed things, Casey had worried that it would create a slight issue with chain of command when dating someone technically under him had gone so terribly the first time.Â
Severide had maintained that he wasnât anything like Dawson and had been pretty pissed off that heâd suggested it as a problem. As if he couldnât handle his boyfriend as his captain in the way that Dawson couldnât handle it.Â
His point was not helped by their first fight on a call where they disagreed and fought about it all day until Casey thought he would actually leave him stranded at the firehouse because he was pissed at him, and he realized that avoiding him and giving him the cold shoulder was exactly the kind of thing that Dawson would do.
Which led to using Caseyâs new private office in a way that broke all of the rules they set up for working together and maintaining a secret relationship at the firehouse.
âThe first fight that got resolved with blow jobs in my office before we talked it out?â
âIs that really any different to cigar chats?â Severide asks to which Casey laughs. âBlowing each other didnât change our minds, it just helped us calm down enough to actually talk it out.â
Casey hums. âYeah, but that shouldnât be necessary ââ
âCome on, Case, weâve always been weird and if we werenât together â we wouldâve had a cigar and talked it out before our fighting touched the boys like we have in the last couple of years. This is just a more fun way.â
He huffs. âI guess.â
âAnd as long as youâre not resolving fights with any other lieutenants this way, Iâm good.â
Casey bursts out laughing. Â
He hasnât found any interest in any other men (or women) since he let himself look (in attempt to see what he actually is â Severide had played a game with Kendra and her gay friend, Brian, where they asked what about them toward random people they found attractive to help him determine that heâs bi â and Severide suggested he do the same). They had played the game between themselves with celebrities and random people they didnât know and just like with his still non-interest in porn, there wasnât a single person heâd been attracted to.Â
And that definitely included the lieutenants at 51. Except, of course, Severide.
âYeah, âcause I am totally into any of the other lieutenants.â
âI donât know, Case, you did seem into Donaldson that first summer,â he teases.
âJust because you were jealous, doesnât mean that I was into him,â Casey offers, smiling. âAnd heâs married, I do not go after married men.â
âI was not jealous.â
âYou absolutely were. And itâs a whole lot funnier if I think of that as proof of your early confused feelings.â
Severide huffs, and says, âSays the guy that suggested we share a bed long before I kissed him.â
âYou know I donât even think thatâs true.â
âOf course itâs true, I definitely remember you wanting cuddling,â Severide retorts.Â
âAnd I said that after you suggested the alternative to adult bunk beds was sharing a bed.â
Severide hums. âFair point. Iâm still blaming you though because you wanted to cuddle.â
âPlease, you also were desperate for cuddling.â
Severide huffs but doesnât deny it.Â
âAnyway.â Casey kisses his cheek. âI still canât say what I think I am, but I can tell you that I am not interested in any other men at the firehouse.â
âGood.â
Before any more can be said, Caseyâs alarm to remind them that they have to leave in fifteen minutes to go pick up the boys. He turns it off.Â
âJoin me in the shower?â
âAlways.â
âGood.â
***
If thereâs one thing that Severideâs enjoyed since their little prank on the house that led him to kissing Casey and confessing that it wasnât just part of the prank, itâs that even though their physical relationship is a secret, when theyâre alone, they canât seem to resist each other.Â
For a man who still admits being confused if heâs gay or bi or Severide-sexual (Severide likes the last one best), even a few months into the change in their dynamic, Casey, in particular, seems to relish touching and kissing him. Heâs honestly kind of surprised that theyâve managed to keep it a secret with the way that theyâve barely managed to maintain their platonic-seeming affection at the firehouse.Â
Especially since the second that they leave the Firehouse; they link hands in the car without even thinking about it.Â
It certainly makes him give a little smile as he stares at the smiling Casey.Â
âYouâre staring,â Casey teases as he pulls the truck away from the Firehouse.
âI like seeing you so happy,â Severide admits. âI also like that you donât even think about it before you grab my hand.â
Casey flushes, eyes dancing in delight when he looks at him. âI am happy. I get to spend two days with you and our boys, and when the boys are at school, I get to have so much fun with you.â
âFor a guy that was celibate for the last few years, youâre hornier than I am,â he teases.Â
He loves that Caseyâs really taken a proactive approach to exploring the change in their relationship. For a guy that wanted to go slow, he definitely hasnât gone slow, and Severide definitely isnât complaining.
âI could probably argue that being celibate is probably the reason,â Casey laughs. âBut honestly, I think itâs just that you make me feel like a fucking teenager again, Sev. Really, like I completely lose track of what Iâm saying or Iâm doing â yesterday when you took your shirt off to work out on app floor, I barely managed to keep myself from dragging you into the turnout room.â
âI wouldnât have objectedâŠâ
He stops for a light and gives him an exasperated look. âYou really want to come out in a way that says Iâm a horny teenager that canât control himself?â
âThe last time you had sex in that turnout room, you nearly lost your job.â
âOnly because she turned around and accused me of something that I would never do,â he insists. He doesnât like thinking about that brief time period when heâd been a major idiot. âAnd you would never do that.â
Casey brings their joined hands to his lips. âDefinitely not. If anything, youâd probably be the one ââ
âNot a chance,â he retorts. âI would love it if you cornered me in the turnout room on shift and had your way with me.â
They both laugh and Casey rolls his eyes. âIâd consider it if I didnât think Iâd got in major trouble for it when weâd inevitably get caught. Iâm your Captain after all.â
âYou know, we have managed to have fun at the Firehouse with no one the wiser,â he says, winking at him.
âWeâve gotten lucky.â
âYeah, we have,â he says, with a very suggestive tone.
Casey gives him a playfully annoyed look. âNot the kind of lucky I meant, and you know it.â
âI know, but point taken,â Severide says with a laugh as Casey pulls over in front of the house. âAnd Iâll have you know that I like that I make you feel like a teenager.â He gives him a kiss. âYou make me feel like one, too.â
Before any more can be said, the front door opens, and the boys run out excitedly. âDads!â
âGuess theyâre ready for the zoo.â
âDefinitely.â
***
Severide grins as he sees Casey at the foot of the stairs from his spot on the couch.
âWhy are you grinning like an idiot?â Casey questions as he comes back downstairs after checking to make sure the boys are asleep, ready and prepared for school tomorrow.
âYouâre wearing my sweatshirt.â
âIâm always wearing your sweatshirt these days â almost as often as you not wearing a shirt,â Casey says, as he joins him on the couch, eyeing his shirtlessness.Â
Severide throws an arm around his shoulders and kisses his cheek. âAnd youâre complaining?â
âNot at all,â Casey retorts. âIt just means weâre not going to end up watching the movie.â
Severide laughs as Casey shifts into his lap, facing him, and running his hands down his chest. âWe were never going to watch the movie, Case.â
Casey leans forward and kisses him, sweetly, which quickly turns dirty and passionate as he slips his tongue into Severideâs mouth wanting more. Casey tastes a little like the beer heâd been drinking before heâd gone upstairs, his lips surprisingly soft. Not that Severide cares what he tastes like, he just wants more of anything Caseyâs willing to give him. Heâs running his hands up and down Severideâs bare chest and Severide squeezes his ass and pulls him closer.
He can feel how hard they both are, and he knows this is definitely going somewhere fun, as always.
They should probably move to their bedroomâŠ
As if on the same wavelength, Casey leans back, breathing heavy, eyes dark with arousal, and says, âIf weâre not going to pretend to watch the movie, we should ⊠just go to bed.â
He laughs. âDefinitely.â

âHey, dad, can I ask you something?â Griffin asks from his spot leaning against the counter next to wall, watching Casey cook. Severideâs sitting at the floating counter in the middle of kitchen working with Ben on his homework, even though itâs math and he hates math. But itâs Caseyâs turn to cook and its simple math.Â
âOf course you can, kiddo. You can always ask us anything,â Casey offers.
âIâm not really sure how to ask it.â
Severide looks up from where he sits to see Griffin shifting side to side, uncertainly. He looks like heâs trying not to wring his hands like he does to Hot Stuffâs ears when heâs nervous. Heâs way too young to have got a girl pregnant, but what else would he be this nervous to talk to them about?
âUh, okay,â Casey offers, a side glance at Severide, who shrugs and turns back to Benâs homework, trying not to seem too worried about whatever it is. âIs it about school?â
âNo.â
âIs it about a girl?â
âEw, no,â he says, nose scrunching a bit.
Severide tries not to laugh at that, although he appreciates that at least he was right about him being too young for all that. They definitely donât want to be grandparents anytime soon.
âIs it about your mom?â Casey asks, a bit more slowly. He knows that theyâve got a visit to the jail coming up, but Griffinâs refused to go to the last two, and itâs made it uncomfortable for Casey, who has to explain. Even though Heather knows that that was the deal â the boys get to decide if they want to see her.
âNo.â
âIs it about your dad number one?â
Severideâs stomach drops at the thought. They donât talk about Andy much, even though his presence haunts them as the boys grow older and look more and more like him. Theyâve put him behind them (or at least how they lost him), but itâs still tough to talk about him sometimes. Just like talking about Shay. Â
âNo, itâs about you and dad.â
âUs?â Severide questions, looking away from Benâs math homework to look at Griffin. âWhat about us?â
âThings have been different, lately,â Griffin states, plainly, bracing himself on the counter.
He shares a look with Casey. They never actually talked to the boys about the change in their relationship, largely because Severide didnât think it really changed anything with their family. Not when they already shared a room, and the only real change was sex, which the boys were definitely too young to know about.
But thereâs no way they havenât noticed with how all over each other theyâve been (even if they keep it PG in front of the boys).
âDifferent?â Casey questions, trying and failing to look nonchalant. He knows exactly what Griffinâs noticed and slight flush on his face suggests that he hopes that Griffinâs not about to question them too deeply on all of that.
âYeah, like youâre always holding hands and kissing and stuff. You didnât do that before.â
Casey nods, a slight smile on his face as he stirs the stew. âOh, yes, yeah, things have changed. Weâve been more affectionate, lately.â
âWhy?â
âUh,â Casey says, uncertainly. âBecause your dad and I are dating now. And people tend to be more affectionate when theyâre dating, and we like those changes.â
Thereâs a beat where Casey looks nervous about Griffinâs response, but then, Ben asks, âI thought you were married?â
They all look at Ben, who looks thoroughly confused, his head tilted, and his eyebrows scrunched as he looks between him and Casey as if trying to figure out a puzzle.
âMarried?â Severide questions with a laugh. âWhy did you think we were married?â
âMom and dad were married,â Ben says, almost innocently. âAll of my friendsâ parents are married. Youâre our dads, so you have to be married.â
âThatâs not that works, dumbass,â Griffin scoffs.
âHey, donât call your brother a dumbass.â
âYou call dad a dumbass all the time,â Griffin counters.
Severide huffs, and Casey laughs and gives him a look that reads I told you to be more careful with what you say. âSee what I mean.â
âThis is one of those do as I say, not as I do things,â Severide offers to an eyeroll from Griffin. âI can call your dad a dumbass because he knows Iâm not being serious; Iâm just messing with him. You were literally calling Ben dumb because of he said.â
âYeah, yeah,â Griffin huffs with an eyeroll, not a teenager, yet, and already starting to act like one. âBut you have to admit that what he said was dumb. Just because youâre our dads doesnât mean youâre married.â
âTo be fair to Ben, usually if thereâs two parents raising kids together, theyâre married,â Casey offers, still stirring dinner. âSometimes, theyâre dating, but your average set of parents arenât best friends co-parenting.â
âAnd Iâm pretty sure we ruined that statistic by getting together,â Severide adds.
Casey laughs. âNot sure anyone really believes that we were just co-parenting anyway.â
While itâs true, thereâs a reason that they havenât confirmed it for anyone and hide their affections at work, but heâs not going to get into that in front of the boys. Instead, offering, âBenny did.â
âBenny believes what he wants to believe,â Casey counters.Â
Then, gives him a look that reminds him that Bennyâs acceptance strongly comes from the desperate attempt to cling to his son not being into men and particularly not Casey. If he ever comes around again, heâs going to be sorely disappointed.Â
Severide looks forward to that day.
âFair.â
Griffin frowns. âI just â I donât get it, why the change?â
âAre you worried that this change will lead to a disruption in what we have here?â Casey asks, a slight strain of worry in his voice. Theyâve worked hard to ally Griffinâs fear of their lives being disrupted, again. âBecause itâs not going to â weâre in a much better place than we were when this started, and the only thing that has changed has only made us happier.â
âIâm not worried that youâll break up; if you didnât break up when you were fighting all the time at first, and Dad wasnât always coming home, I doubt youâll do it now, I just donât get it ââ
âYou donât get why weâd want to date or the timing?â Severide questions, not wanting to think about the time when they first started this thing, and he was contemplating whether or not he was dad material. His own insecurities driving him to do stupid things. âBecause when we first agreed to co-parent, things were different and difficult, neither of us were in a place to date and be happy together. We needed to fix a few things in our friendship, first.â
It was complicated, those first few months together, but despite sharing a bed (and the teasing theyâd done about enjoying cuddling) neither of them couldâve broached that wall and it wouldnât have gone well if they had.
Griffin shakes his head.Â
âMaxâs brother said that you only hold hands and kiss and stuff if you want to have kids like their parentsâŠâ
The unspoken question hangs in the air.
Severide looks at Casey, whoâs struggling not to laugh and has to clear his throat before he speaks.
âUh, kiddo, your dad and I ⊠even if we wanted to, which we donât because weâre more than happy with just you two, couldnât have another kid together.â
Griffin blinks, âBut Maxâs brother said that his parents claimed that if he did stuff like that, theyâd be grandparents.â
Casey loses his battle with trying not to laugh, and while heâs choking on his laugh, he gives Severide a look that says help me.
âOkay, buddy,â Severide says, looking at Griffin and trying not to laugh, himself. Griffinâs looking between them very confused. âWhat you have to understand is that for some people, they can end up having kids when they kiss and stuff, but your dad and I would not be those people.â
âWhy not?â Ben pipes up, curiosity in his voice. âCan you not have kids?â
âWe can just not with each other,â he offers.
âItâs because weâre two dads and not a mom and dad or someone with eggs and someone with sperm,â Casey explains. âYouâll learn about reproduction in biology someday.â
âSo, then, why do it?â
âBecause itâs fun.â
âSev!â
He gives Casey an annoyed look because really there was no other explanation. âWell, it is, and no matter how hard I try, I canât knock you up, so itâs only for fun.â
âWow, Sev,â Casey says, flushing, and giving him a look like maybe he shouldnât be sharing that with the boys.Â
He shrugs at him; itâs not like theyâre not going to learn that someday.
Both boys are giving them confused looks and Casey shakes his head, focusing on dinner, he says, âOkay, hereâs the deal. Some people only do things like kiss and whatnot for the purpose of making a baby, but the majority of people do it to have fun. So, thatâs why we do it.â
Griffinâs still frowning, confused, as Casey gets out the bowls for dinner and begins to dish it out.
âWhatâs wrong, kiddo?â Casey asks after a minute.
âIf itâs so fun, why werenât you doing it before?â
Casey hands him his bowl and the bowl with the bread to take to the table and says, âWell, as your dad said, we werenât in a good place to start a relationship, we had to fix a few things.â
âYeah, but didnât you fix those things by the end of that summer?â Griffin asks. âBy the time you went back to the same watch, you were much happier together. Like you wanted you wanted to spend all your time together even though Aunt Christie teased you about it.â
âYes, we did,â Severide states. That summer had been quite healing for both of them as friends and co-parents, but also for all of them as a family. âAnd we were happy as friends and now, weâre happy as more than friends.â
âSo, why not then? Why now? What changed?â
Casey hums. âWell, your dad and I thought we were only interested in each other as best friends and best friends donât do that.â
âWhy not?â
âWhy not ⊠what?â Casey asks as he hands a bowl to Ben and Severide, who grab the drinks as well, and they all move to the dining room to eat dinner.Â
âWhy donât best friends do that?â Griffin asks as he sits in his spot across from Ben, setting the bread in the middle for everyone. âWhy donât they kiss and stuff if itâs just for fun?â
âWell, in our case, itâs because we thought we were straight,â Severide offers as he hands out the drinks and they begin eating. âSo, we didnât think we wanted to kiss each other.â
âNot crooked?â Ben questions, looking confused.
âNo, as opposed to another sexuality,â he offers. He shares a look with Casey, who isnât quite sure what he identifies as â though, Severide still like to tease⊠Severide-sexual.
âSexuality?â Ben questions, eyebrows crinkling.Â
Casey runs a hand over his eyes, clearly, not wanting to have this conversation, but both boys are looking at them for an answer.
âAlright,â Casey says, taking a deep breath. âSo, growing up, there was always this idea that the normal family is a mom, dad, and kids, and thatâs partially because of reproduction and how it all works. Which again you can learn about in biology.â
âOkayâŠâ
âSo, your dad and I both kinda thought that we had to be interested in women.â
âAnd to be fair, we were interested in women,â Severide adds. âYour dad and I were both once engaged to different women, and there wouldâve been nothing wrong with marrying them had it worked out or being with them and just being best friends.â
âAnd part of the reason that we wanted that, at least for me, was to have a family,â Casey offers. âI thought the only way to get married and have a partner and kids was if I was with a woman. And I loved her, so itâs not like I just â but thatâs just the point. I wanted a family; I wanted to marry her so I could, and it wasnât until later on when I got to have you two without marrying a woman that I could⊠explore other options.â
Severide knows how badly he wanted a family, and he wonders if that was why he jumped to Dawson so fast after losing Hallie, but he can see that his sort-of explanation is still confusing to the boys.
âLike with Gabby?â
Sometimes Severide forgets that the boys experienced a little bit of Caseyâs relationship with Dawson, and thereâs a clench in his stomach at the reminder. Casey could have ended up with Dawson if things had been just a little bit different. If sheâd never tried to be a firefighter, if they didnât have the boys when the bombing happened at the hospital, and he had to get home to them. He couldâve been the father of her son, and then, Severide would be on the outsideâŠ
âYes, but I was thinking about Hallie. You met her, too, but she passed away about nine months after your dad number one did,â Casey explains, a slight look of heartache in his eyes.Â
Whether itâs for Hallie or Andy or both, Severide doesnât know, but it hurts to see. He reaches across the table and squeezes his hand.Â
Casey sends him a smile. âI loved her, and I wanted to be with her, but part of the reason for that was because I wanted a family.â
Both boys still look confused, so Casey continues.
âBut either way, when your dad and I started making this work as a team, I realized that I didnât need anyone else in my life. Iâm happy with you boys and your dad. Weâre a family and I donât need a woman in my life to have that, and then, I started having those feelings I had for Hallie with your dad, partially because I could let myself â I have the family I wanted, and I didnât need woman in my life to have it and⊠so I could have feelings for your dad and still have everything I ever wantedâŠâ
âAnd then, you decided to kiss dad?â Ben questions, eyes wide. âLike for fun?  Out of nowhere?â
Casey laughs. âActually, your dad kissed me.â
âWe kissed each other,â Severide corrects, giving him a look.
âBut why?â Griffin questions and it occurs to him that Griffin might have a crush, and his questions come from another place of curiosity. âHowâd you know you wanted to kiss? Howâd you know you liked dad that way? The boys at school only ever talk about girls and crushes and it doesnât make any sense.â
Somehow, he never really thought heâd have to explain.Â
âWell, crushes come from a place like noticing if someone is cute or not,â Casey tries. âYou just get a feeling thatâs just different to the way you feel towards your brother or your friends or your dads. Like maybe you like spending time with them and you want to get to know them and you feel something in like your belly when you look at them.â
Griffinâs frowning. âBut how did you know that you liked dad instead of someone else? How do you know the feeling is different to friends if you and dad were friends first?â
Casey looks to be at a loss. How do you explain a crush when it comes years after youâve been best friends with someone?
âWell, I always kinda noticed the attractiveness of men as well as women, but I always thought that was normal â thinking a guy was as cute as a girl was, thought it was related to wanting to be as attractive as they were,â Severide offers.Â
Casey raises his eyebrows at him, obviously not realizing that he was bisexual before and just didnât know it. There were signs, he just missed them because, like Casey, he never had any reason to dive deeper into those feelings and cause potential chaos in his life for some random fling⊠Casey, though, was special.
âThen, I started to notice your dad â I always knew he was attractive â I just never let myself consider it for various reasons and itâs ⊠complicated⊠to explain howâŠâ he canât really go into sex dreams and hard-ons with pre-teen boys. â⊠but I realized that I never let myself think of something more with him or any other guy for that matter because I liked women and I didnât want to throw my world into chaos (which questioning myself did) until your dad and then, I decided to see if he would be accepting of it.â
âHowâd you know he was?â
âThere were signsâŠâ
He gives a grin to Casey, who rolls his eyes and laughs.Â
âListening to the internet doesnât count as signs.â
âI disagree, strangers on the internet were clear about the obvious signs.â
âWhat kind of signs?â Ben questions, looking between them so innocently.Â
They share a look and Casey blushes. âUh, normal best friends wouldnât share a bed as adults for a long time â a night or two maybe, but usually you only share if youâre dating or married.â
Griffin hums and tilts his head. âBut you only shared because you gave me dadâs room.â
Severide hums. âYes, and we could have found other ways, but we ⊠didnât.â
âAnd there was also the fact that your dad pined for me,â Casey teases.
âI did not and do not pine,â Severide counters, but he sees that gleeful look in Caseyâs eyes and huffs. âFine, but I wasnât the only one to pine.â
âYeah, yeah,â Casey offers with a handwave. âAnyway⊠itâs complicated, but your dad and I were getting closer and more affectionate, and we both liked that, and then, we had a moment and ⊠that was it.â
Griffinâs still looking confused even as he eats. âDoes that mean youâre not into girls anymore?â
Severideâs curious about this and looks up at him, eagerly.Â
Casey flushing. âWell, like your dad discovered heâs bi ââ
âWhatâs bi?â Ben questions.
âIt means he likes men and women.â
âThatâs okay?â
âYes, buddy,â Severide assures him. âWeâd be happy for you to be happy with whoever makes you happy.â
âThatâs a lot of happy,â Ben says, face crinkling a bit.
Casey laughs. âAnyway, apparently, thereâs another sexuality out there that works a little better for me than straight, gay, or bi ââ
âWhatâs gay?â Ben asks.Â
Severide shakes his head. âLetâs back up for a second. People call themselves straight if they are men into women, and women into men.â
âRight, and if youâre a man into a man or a woman into a woman, then youâre gay or a lesbian.â
âLike Shay? Or Miss Kendra?â Griffin asks.Â
âExactly,â Severide offers with a smile. âThey are or were women into women, so we could use gay or lesbian, but for men into men, we use gay.â
âAre you gay, then, dad?â Ben asks, looking back at Casey.
He shakes his head. âNot exactly.â
Severide tilts his head, a bit confused. âSo, youâre bi, then?â
âKinda?â
âWhat do you mean, kinda?â
He canât be straight. He likes Severideâs dick way too much for that, and yet, thereâs a clench in his stomach that makes him worry that despite Casey being all over him, heâs going to claim that heâs straight. He doesnât know how theyâd survive that argument.
Casey flushes, and asks, âYou know that book that Kendra gave me?â
âYeahâŠâ
âWell, apparently, thereâs more than three sexualities,â Casey offers, not looking at the boys.Â
Heâs focusing entirely on Severide. Blue eyes locked and for the first time he realizes that Casey mightâve found a sexuality he feels comfortable admitting out loud for the first time.Â
âAnd while Iâm still sorting things out, thereâs a sexuality that itâs like a branch of asexuality â which is why you donât feel any sort of desire for romance and all that â, where ⊠the attraction kind of builds based on closeness with friendship. Like, the attraction only comes after thereâs a close bond of friendship. Itâs not based on first looks, I guess? Itâs called demi-sexuality.â
Severide hums as he thinks about how heâd teased Casey for not going for it with Hallie for so long, and then, of course, Dawsonâs trying to worm her way into his life the way she did. Both had practically been his best friends before it had gone further than that.
And so was he. Best friends, sharing a bed and a life⊠the fact that theyâve been sharing a bed for nearly three years before they kissed, that theyâve been best friends since they were eighteen, and that Casey appeared to have never even considered it until their prank and Severide putting the moves on him. And now, canât keep his hands to himself.Â
There was an anomaly in Pridgenâs ex-wife, but Severide could probably blame that on Caseyâs desperation to just do something for himself and get over Dawson. Maybe it just mainly works ⊠considering heâs never done one-night-stands and what-not. But anomaly or not, it clearly feels right to Casey.
âThat makes a lot of sense for you.â
He also realizes that in a way that means Casey is Severide-sexual, and he just loves that.Â
âStop smirking,â Casey states, giving him a look. Clearly, he gets exactly where his mind went.
The boys keep eating, but both give them a curious look.Â
After a minute or two, Casey clears his throat and looks away. He offers, âAny more questions?â
They look uncertain but shake their heads as they finish eating and take their bowls to the sink.Â
âCan we play video games?â
âAs soon as you finish your homework.â
They both huff but concede. âFine.â
Severide follows Casey into the kitchen with the dirty dishes and once the boys move back to the dining room to do their homework, he smiles at him.Â
âSo, you are Severide-sexual, huh?â he asks, deeply pleased at the prospect.
Casey flushes. âIt would seem so.â He kisses his cheek. âWhat do you think?â
He knows heâs not talking about the overall conversation, but his revelation. His sexuality. It clearly means something to Casey, what Severide thinks.
He smiles. âLike I said, I think it makes sense. You were best friends with Hallie for more than a year before you asked her out and Dawson was flirting with you for years (despite you being with Hallie) before you gave in there.â
Pridgenâs ex-wife was an outlier, but that mess had been clearly out of the norm for Casey.
âAnd then, thereâs you,â Casey teases, laughing slightly. âYouâve definitely taken the longest.â
âOh, fuck off,â Severide says, playfully. âYou know that itâs ⊠obviously because I couldnât let myself consider you.â
Casey leans over and kisses him. âLuckily, Andy seemed to be secretly setting us up.â
Severide laughs. âYeah, heâs definitely been laughing at us from beyond the grave for taking so long of sharing a bed to realize that we wanted to share it in other ways.â
He kinda likes the thought of that. Andy would definitely be a lot happier now than he wouldâve been when they were fighting at first.Â
Heâd probably be happy that theyâd fallen in love after all this time and largely because of him.Â
He gives him another kiss, one that lingers just a bit. If it werenât for the boys awake in the next room, heâd be sorely tempted to take Casey right here, right now. Casey seems to be on the same page as he lightly pushes back against his shoulders to break the kiss.
Casey coughs, blushing slightly because they both know how turned on that they are right now. âAnyway, that wasnât too bad, was it? Like we explained it well enough without getting too detailed and going above their age level.â
âIt was certainly interesting. We might have to talk to Griffin sooner rather than later about crushes and feelings he might be having,â Severide states. âHe might be confused about expecting a crush that heâs either not feeling or he may have a crush and just doesnât understand.â
âI was thinking that he may have a crush on friend thatâs not a girl,â Casey offers.Â
âReally?â
Casey shrugs. âThe way he talked about the boys at school only talking about girls and it not making any senseâŠâ
âHuh,â Severide hums. It makes some sense. âIt would explain some of his questions for sure.â
âExactly what I was thinking,â Casey says. âBut I could be wrong.â
âEven if thatâs not the case, it seems like he might be ready for us to talk us through some of that stuff. Even if heâs bit young.â
âYeah, especially because itâs clear that Herrmannâs older boys might be sharing certain things.â
âDefinitely,â Severide says, with a laugh. âAnd especially if Herrmannâs idea of the talk is holding hands leads to babies.â
âIn his defense, all he had to do was sneeze in her direction to get her pregnant.â
They both laugh and shakes their heads as Severide moves to wash the dishes and Casey leans against the counter watching him and teasing about Herrmannâs fun parenting choices.Â
***
âBye, dads!â the boys yell as they rush out of the car towards their school. âSee you tomorrow!â
âBye,â Casey yells with a wave.Â
Severideâs just smiling from behind the wheel as he pulls away from the curb and then, lets Casey lace his hand with Severideâs hand.Â
âSo, I was thinkingâŠâ
âYouâre going to bring up the truck, again,â Casey states, starting to pull his hand away.Â
Severide tightens his hand and gives him a look that says he doesnât get to pull away just because heâs bringing up something that he doesnât want to talk about. âI was.â
Casey stops pulling away and relaxes. âFine. I still havenât thought about it. I was too busy sucking your dick.â
Severideâs grateful that heâs stopped at a light when Caseyâs said that as he looks at him, unbelievably. âAs much time as we spend in bed together, we both know that it doesnât take up that much time in bed.â
Casey rolls his eyes, and they start moving again. âWhy do you hate my truck?â
âI donât hate your truck,â he assures him.Â
âThen, why do you want me to get rid of my truck for no reason?â Casey asks, voice strained. Severide knows how important the truck is to him, the first thing he bought on his own after his difficult teen years as a foster kid â it means a lot to him, but he also knows that Casey deserves a new truck and if he got a new one then Casey could drive them more.Â
âItâs not no reason ââ
âI donât look at a new car as a reward for being captain,â Casey states, plainly, not even looking at him. âI like my truck, and it works, and I donât want to change what I have.â
Severide hums. He supposes that he has been focused on thinking what he would want if he got promoted and heâs not exactly being a good boyfriend if heâs not considering what Casey would want.
âI â you â youâre right, I have been thinking about what I would want, and itâs partially related to how happy you are driving your truck, but you canât drive your truck when itâs the four of us, so I thought⊠it would be a good idea to get a new truck that would let you drive more and make you happier.â
âOh,â Casey says, looking back at him. âI â I hadnât thought about that. I thought you liked driving?â
âI do, I love my new car, and I love driving, but I know that you also love driving and you seemed so happy to drive every time we get in the truck.â
He glances at Casey, whoâs smiling, again. âI do miss driving my truck more.â
âAnd Iâm not saying getting a new truck means getting rid of the old one,â he offers because clearly, thatâs really what Caseyâs opposed to. Heâs not ready to get rid of something that has meant a lot to him over the years. âWe can always hold onto it, and as long as we take good care of it and knowing you, we will, then we could teach the boys how to drive in it.â
At the light, Casey kisses his cheek, happy once again. âYou shouldâve started with that.â
Severide laughs. âSo new and shiny doesnât work, but pointing out that getting a new truck doesnât mean getting rid of the old truck does? Yeah, I definitely shouldâve thought of that. I know how much you love your truck.â
He brings their joined hands to his lips just before the light turns.Â
âItâs more that Iâm just not ready to get rid of it when Iâve taken good care of it and itâs ⊠a big part of who I am and my past, itâs the first thing I ever bought on my own, itâs⊠just â important.â
âI know it is, sweetheart,â Severide tells him, giving him a soft look.
Casey flushes as the pet name. âAnd I may not be ready to let go of it, but I definitely could use a new truck.â
âAnd I get to help you pick it out, right?â Severide asks with a grin as he pulls over in front of the firehouse.
âAbsolutely.â
âGood.â
***
âOkay, hereâs some options for possible trucks,â Severide says with a grin as he finds Casey sitting at the table in the common room attempting to do paperwork and trying to avoid Severide working out shirtless on the app floor before he completely loses the battle with trying to be professional and wanting to break the rules they came up with â which theyâve already broken way too many times.
âThat was fast,â Casey states, somewhat suspicious.
Severide grins at him because heâs already had potential options for the truck in his bag because he was convinced that he would be able to convince Casey to get a new truck eventually.Â
And heâs not wrong.
Severideâs persistence on it wouldâve definitely won out eventually. As it is, it only took two weeks for him to agree.
Casey rolls his eyes. âYouâve had these since you first brought it up, havenât you?â
âMaybe.â
âYouâre an ass.â
He laughs and gives that Iâm an ass, but you love me grin that he knows Caseyâs suddenly found far too endearing. âYeah, but we both know how persistent I can be.â
âI think youâre using stubborn wrong,â Casey teases, then, glances down at the information heâs handed him. âAnd you already have any idea for which oneâs the best, donât you?â
âDefinitely, but itâs your truck, so you should see some options,â he says as he sits beside him, moving Caseyâs paperwork over and out of his way.
Casey laughs and shakes his head. âYouâre ridiculous, but Iâm sure Iâm going to end up choosing the one you like best.â
âYouâre actually getting a new truck?â Mouch asks from his spot on the couch.
âI am.â
âAnd youâre going to let Severide choose for you?â Otis questions, from his spot playing cards at the other table, in a tone that sounds like a mixed of confused and slighted icked out.Â
âNot exactly.â
âThatâs kinda what it sounds like,â Cruz offers.Â
âIâm still choosing myself; the odds are just likely that whichever he chose as a favorite will align with what I choose because he knows me so well.â
âAre you sure you two arenât married?â Kidd asks, sharing a smile and a laugh with Dawson and Brett at the long table.
âWeâre not married; weâve just known each other a long time,â he retorts, not even bothering to look up.
âAnd spend all of your time together,â Otis offers.
Casey rolls his eyes, looking up from the various pictures of trucks and information on them, clearly annoyed. âWe donât spend all of our time together.â
âReally?â Dawson asks, eyeing Severide but addressing Casey. âYou live together, you work together, and you even drive in together.â
She looks like she wants to point out that he definitely spends more time with Severide than he did with her while they were dating, but to be fair, she works nights at Mollyâs and Severide knows heâd rather spend time with him over her, especially in their last few months together. It still makes Severide smile when he thinks about a couple of nights when things were rough, where heâd straight up asked Severide to go out drinking rather than hanging out with her.
âYeah, you even share a room together at home, so do you ever spend any time apart?â Cruz questions, and Severideâs really regretting admitting that tidbit when it came up after they asked for help getting things all prepped for Griffinâs move into Severideâs room three years ago.
Imagine if they knew about sharing a bed or all of the sex theyâve been having in it.
âAh, we spend time apart, all the time,â Casey lies because honestly, aside from separate calls or brief time alone in his office, theyâre usually together. Especially lately and neither of them wants that to change. They like being together all the time. âAnd Iâm pretty sure that sleeping doesnât count as spending time together.â
âHey!â Herrmann yells. âI work a lot. I have to count it.â
Casey rolls his eyes. The looks of disbelief annoy them both.  Â
âWe spend time apart,â he insists.Â
âGetting called to separate calls does not count,â Otis states.
âItâs not just that.â
âReally?â Kidd asks. âBecause even the last time you came by Mollyâs, you two were attached at the hip.â
The last time theyâd gone to Mollyâs had been for the celebration for Caseyâs promotion and it was only a few weeks into their new relationship dynamic and theyâd been a lot more attached at that point than they are these days â even though they are still a little clingy.
âWe were not attached at the hip,â Severide scoffs, finally interjecting. He finds the commentary ridiculous because thereâs nothing wrong with how close they are (even if they were still just best friends). âWe sat next to each other. Thatâs not exactly clingy. Cruz and Otis sit next to each other all the time, are they clingy?â
âJust because we drink together doesnât mean weâre clingy,â Otis retorts.
âAnd sitting next to Severide at Mollyâs doesnât prove that weâre clingy, either,â Casey states. âYeah, we spend a lot of time together, but itâs not just the two of us â at home, weâve got the boys, and here, we have all of you to annoy us.â
Severide laughs as everyone else makes annoyed and offended sounds.Â
Thankfully, the alarm blares and the conversation can hopefully be tabled forever.
***
Severide can tell that thereâs something bugging Casey and if he had to guess, it was related to the conversation yesterday.Â
He knows that itâs better if they donât talk about it at the firehouse, so he waits until theyâre in the car on the way home.Â
He pulls away from the curb and reaches out to lace their hands as they have every day since they started dating, but Caseyâs hand doesnât meet his like always.
âCase?â
âYeah, Sev?â Casey asks, looking out the window.Â
âYou know theyâre idiots, right?â
Casey looks at him, and with his eyebrows crinkling, asks, âWhat?â
âYouâve been quiet since the talk yesterday, and youâre not holding my hand as you stare out the window,â he says, offering his hand once, again. This time Casey rolls his eyes with a small smile as he takes it. âSo, I can only assume that youâre thinking about everyone commenting on us spending too much time together and theyâre wrong and idiots.â
âThey might not wrong about how much time we spend together,â Casey offers.
âCaseâŠâ
âBut I wasnât staring out the window thinking that we actually spend too much time together.â
âOh?â Severide asks, giving him a side look as he drives. âThen, what are you thinking about? And why werenât you holding my hand?â
Casey laughs and squeezes his hand. âI didnât realize that it mattered that much to you. Didnât know that you were such a hand-holder.â
Severide rolls his eyes, as he keeps driving. âItâs not really the point.â
âI think it is,â Casey teases. âApparently, it meant enough that you brought it up as a sign that something was wrong.â
Severide huffs. He likes holding his hand and heâs not going explain why. âJust â can you â tell me whatâs wrong?â
âYouâre a dumbass.â Casey laughs and smiles.
âYeah, but Iâm your dumbass,â Severide jokes, kissing the back of his hand.Â
âYeah, you are.â
They share a quick kiss when he stops at a light before he says, âAre you going to tell me whatâs up or are you going to keep on about how much you like holding my hand?â
âActually, I was teasing you about how much you like my hand, since you ââ
âWill you just tell me whatâs up?â
Casey rolls his eyes. âTruck was very interested in what we do in our off time that we spend so much time together ââ
âDid you tell them that you like to suck my dick?â he teases. âBury your dick in my ass or like my dick in yours?  Did you tell them about my padded cuffs and all of the fun I get to have with you?â
âNo, although I was very tempted,â Casey offers, flushing furiously and shifting in his seat. He loves that just his words can get him all hot and bothered. âEspecially when they tried to guess what we could possibly want to do with each other as if we havenât been best friends since we were eighteen and have spent a lot of time together.â
Severide chuckles. âDid you point out that Herrmann and Mouch spend nearly the same amount of time together and so do Otis and Cruz?â
âI did, I also pointed out that we spend a lot of time with the boys because weâre their dads and weâre a family.â
Severide hums and gives him a look as he pulls down the alleyway to their garage. âAnd what did they say to that?â
âThat Herrmannâs got five kids, but Cindy takes care of them, and that we only really need one of us to be with them like we did that first summer and that thereâs really no good reason in their eyes that we donât take turns going to Mollyâs or out on dates and no matter how much I argued that we like to be a united front for the boys and spend time as a family or that Iâm not interested anyone (else) that they disagree. And so, now, Otis and Mouch insist that I come by Mollyâs tonight, and Kiddâs insisting that she could invite one of her friends that she thinks Iâd like and Iâm trying to figure out how to tell them to fuck off and I donât want anyone else without telling them that Iâm currently dating you.â
He parks in the garage and then turns fully to Casey. âPlease let me show up tonight and give them hell.  I promise I wonât out us if you donât want to come out, but they canât just ââ
âI wasnât going to show up, Sev,â Casey states, squeezing his hand. âThereâs no polite way to tell them to fuck off, and if weâre not telling them that weâre together, then I canât say Iâm dating someone, so I just ⊠wasnât going to show.â
Severide huffs. âSo, I donât get to tell them off?â
âIt would only make things worse,â he offers, kissing the back of his hand and then getting out of the car.
âSo, why are you telling me this?â he asks, as he gets out of the car with Casey already half-way across the yard and rushing to catch up.
Casey stops at the back door and leans against it. âWell, one because you asked.â
âAnd two?â Severide questions as he eyes Casey up and down. It may be just getting used to having sex whenever they get home from work (and the boys are at school), but heâs half-hard just looking at Casey casually leaning in the doorway looking unfairly attractive.
âAnd two, I donât have to tell them Iâm dating anyone if you use that oral fixation of yours to leave a mark,â Casey offers, a faint blush on his face and a glint in his eyes. âTheyâll get the message loud and clear, and I can keep my private life, private.â
Severide laughs and kisses him up against the door. âI love that plan.â
âThought you might.â
***
âWell, I think we can successfully say that the plan worked,â Casey says as he drives them home in his new truck after work a few days later.
Heâs still getting used to it, but he does love that it has some cool new features, and that he can drive more now that his truck has enough seats for all of them.Â
Severide hums. âAny plan that involves getting to leave my mark on you was always going to be a success.â
He rolls his eyes, despite the warmth in his belly at the way Severideâs looking at him. âI meant because Truck got the message that maybe there are things I donât share with them because Iâm a private person, and now, instead of assuming correctly that Iâm having my way with you every night, theyâll assume someone is having their way with me and stop badgering us about how much time we spend together.â
âI donât know if they all got that message,â Severide retorts. âAlthough I suppose sheâs not on Truck anymoreâŠâ
Casey huffs. âYeah, now that Dawson thinks Iâm interested in dating again, she was flirting with me today.â
Heâs not happy about it. He thought with her baby and the way he avoids her (for the most part) that sheâd let it go. Heâs honestly surprised that she and Mills arenât together for their son (but then, again, he never asked if she told him or not), but she knows that she backed off when he said he wasnât interested in dating because he wanted to focus on the boys.Â
Now, though, he given the impression that heâs getting back out there.
âIâll just have to keep leaving marks on your neck to make sure she knows youâre taken,â Severide offers with a wink and a grin.
Casey laughs as he pulls over in front of their house. âLike a fucking teenager.â
âDamn straight. I canât give you my letterman jacket or class ring, but a hickey? Definitely.â
Casey leans over and gives him a kiss. âAnd I wouldnât have it any other way.â
Henry's plans for their first wedding anniversary mesh surprisingly well with Alex's plans.

Henry smiles to himself, eyes still closed, as he slowly wakes to Alexâs arms around him. The softness of their bed could nearly lure him back to sleep if he wants, but he also knows that they have plans today.Â
Plans that despite Alexâs teasing we should just spend our first anniversary in bed do involve leaving their very comfortable bed and not just shagging the day away.
He rolls over to face his lovely husband, whoâs smiling sleepily at him and is quick to give him a sleepy kiss. One that lingers just enough.Â
Heâs trying to entice him into more, and any other morning, he probably would fall for it, but heâd been looking forward to today and his plans for too long.Â
âGood morning, love,â Henry offers, putting a hand on his chest to stop the kiss from going further. âHappy Anniversary.â
âHappy Anniversary, baby,â Alex offers with a sweet smile.  He gives him another sleepy half-kiss, clearly attempting to entice him to stay in bed all day, but Henryâs hand on his chest stops him.  He leans back with his best puppy dog eyes as he asks, âAre you sure that I canât convince you to spend our anniversary in bed?â
Henry laughs, the offer is tempting.Â
âI really wanted to surprise you with the best anniversary ever and no matter how often you tell me that sucking my dick is all you want to do to celebrate us or that sucking my dick really is a celebration of us, I really want you to feel my love in a way that isnât about our dicks.â
Alex hums and gives him a playfully pouty look. âI suppose that makes sense for a romantic like you.â
âYouâll like what I have planned, I promise,â Henry tells him. He gives him another kiss, which causes Alex to hum, pleasantly.
âAs long as Iâm with you, Iâll be happy,â Alex assures him.
âGood.â
***
Alex lets Henry lead him by the hand onto Henryâs boat. His mom had it brought over as a wedding present a year ago, since she knew that Henry would want to have it nearby given itsâ connection to his dad.Â
âWhatâs going on, baby? We going sailing?â Alex asks, teasingly. Heâd been begging Henry to teach him how to sail since he knew that Henry loves it so much. Always out on his boat whenever he gets the chance.
âIn a way,â Henry offers, giving him a sly smile. âYouâve been asking to learn how to sail for some time now, so I thought I would spend our anniversary teaching you how.â
Alex grins. He loves this plan. He gets to learn how to do something that Henry loves and see him in his element and spend the day alone with the love of his life.Â
Itâs a perfect anniversary.
âI love it, baby.â
âThought you might.â
***
Later, while heâs standing at the helm, Henry helping to direct him, Alex feels at peace. Heâs got his husbandâs arms around his waist, and his chin on his shoulder. The endless open water out in front of him, the gentle waves, the smell of salt, is so unbelievably peaceful.
And itâs utterly perfect.Â
It gives them the peace to be themselves in a place where no one can spy on them.Â
Just them, the boat and the deep blue sea.Â
It takes a moment for him to realize that the sun is setting.Â
âI suppose we should head home,â Alex says, when he does.Â
Henry hums. âI was actually thinking that we could lay anchor. Then, lay out a blanket and make love under the stars. I could tell you all about the various constellations and stories.â
Alex grins. âIâd love nothing more. A night out on your ship, stargazing. Making love under the stars, sounds perfect.â
Henry kisses his cheek. âPerfect end to a perfect night.â
âExactly.â
***
Henry hums, pleasantly as Alex kisses his neck.Â
Heâd spent the better part of the last hour attempting to tell him all of the various stories he could remember that his father used to tell him whenever they would go out sailing, and Alex has been good.
Heâs listened and asked questions, but heâs clearly more interested in something else.
âAre you up to something, love?â Henry teases, as Alex licks at the mark heâs left on Henryâs neck.Â
He shifts to straddle him, already down to his pants (they both are) and happy to run his hands up and down his chest. Clearly, looking for more.
Alex hums, his eyes are dark with arousal, his dick hard in his pants. âWhile Iâve quite enjoyed this date, baby, you know damn well that Iâve wanted to fuck all day. You really gonna hold out on me on our anniversary?â
Henry melts as he always does when he hears Alex call him baby, and says, âI suppose youâve been a good boy long enough.â
Alex grins, leaning down and kissing him soundly on lips. âGood, Iâll go get the lube.â
He canât help laughing at the eagerness, happy that even a year into their marriage and years into their relationship that they could still get this excited to have some fun together and he hopes (and knows) that thatâs never going change and heâd never want it to.
***
In the morning, Henry wakes to Alexâs slight groan about the sun streaming down on them.
âHmmm, baby, we did not think through literally waking to the sun,â Alex says, groggily.Â
Henry has to lift his hand to cover his eyes and look at Alex. âPerhaps we havenât but should probably use it as the reminder to return to shore.â
Alex shifts onto his belly, looks at him with fond, but teasing smile. âOr â or we could just ⊠hang out naked on the boat. Itâs not like anyone will see us.â
Henry laughs. âWell, I suppose I do owe you a day in bed of dick-sucking. Never said our bed couldnât be on my boat.â
Alex grins, brightly. âExactly. Certainly sounds like a great additional celebration to me â me, you and dick sucking anywhere we can.â
âSounds perfect.â
âGood.â
Alex gives him a sweet kiss. âThen, letâs get celebrating.â
Severide has an idea for turning their annual night out to the Blackhawks game into their first date, what he hadn't anticipated is just how distracting Casey is when he's wearing Severide's clothes.
Ao3
***
Itâs still new.Â
This thing Casey has with Severide.
The prank has been forgotten at the firehouse but lingers on within them. Despite living together, sharing a bed and kids, the prank had changed a lot of things for them.Â
He still canât believe how one moment of agreeing to tease and prank the house had led to a kiss that feels as if itâs changed his entire world.Â
He doesnât know if heâs gay or bi or Severide-sexual (though Severide loves teasing that last one), but he does know that he loves waking up to Severideâs arms wrapped around him, his lips on his neck or his head, his hand wandering down his chest.Â
He wishes that he could revel in the feelings that Severide clearly wants to send through him, but he also knows that the boys are on holiday break and theyâll no doubt interrupt. It amazing that theyâve started sleeping in at all.Â
âSevâŠâ
âYeah, Case, love it when you moan my name like that,â Severide says, sounding all breathy and horny and yeah, maybe they could make it a quickie?
But before he can suggest that, there is the sounds of the boys above their heads, Severide nuzzles his neck as he mutters, âThis is why youâre supposed to have kids after the honeymoon stage is over.â
Casey laughs. âWithout the boys you probably wouldnât have your hand on my dick right now, so we really shouldnât complain.â
Severide rolls his eyes and gives him a kiss. âCome on, the boys await.â
âThat they do.â
***
âSo, Iâve been thinkingâŠâ Severide starts as he looks at the tickets that he buys Casey every year for Christmas.  Well, every year since they started co-parenting the boys.Â
âSounds dangerous,â Casey teases as he re-joins him from the kitchen with a couple of beers and looking unfairly gorgeous in Severideâs sweatshirt.Â
At this point, heâs pretty sure thereâs some sort of instinctual response to seeing Casey in his sweatshirt that makes him completely forget where he was going with this.Â
âAsshole,â he retorts, but only because he canât remember what he was going to say.
It doesnât help that Casey catches on and starts laughing as he sets the beers down on the coffee table, and joins him on the couch, planting himself in Severideâs lap, sideways, his back against the arm of the couch.Â
Severide takes the opportunity to kiss his neck as he laughs, hand already making itsâ way into his pants, fondling his dick as he sucks on his neck.Â
It takes Casey a minute lost in Severideâs sensations before he gasps, âWait, wait, you have to tell me what you were going to say, first.â
âNo, I donât.âÂ
Severide slides him off his lap and onto his back on the couch, moving quickly so that heâs situated in between his legs and his lips on Caseyâs before he could say anything else.Â
And frankly, he could worry about whatever he was going to say after.
***
âWell, I know if I ever wanna get lucky that I just gotta wear your sweatshirt,â Casey teases, once theyâre cuddled up together afterwards, not that he minds in the least.Â
Though, their beer had gotten a bit warm as Severide had opted to tease him for wearing his sweatshirt. He swears itâs like some sort of instant gotta have you thing that he frankly never expected but wasnât complaining about as long as they continue to control themselves in front of the boys.
âIâd tell you that Iâd eventually learn to control myself, but honestly,â Severide pauses as he looks him up and down in just his sweatshirt and underwear, âI have no plans to try.â
Casey laughs. âIâm not against it, I just love knowing that I donât even have to try to turn you on, I just show up in your clothes.â He gives him a sweet kiss before he asks, âBut you did have something that you wanted to share, no?â
âOh,â Severide says, glancing at the tickets on the coffee table. âI was thinking⊠we always go out for the game since itâs a present for just you and me and maybe we could make it like⊠a first date thing? Go out to dinner, go to the game, have sex in my car.â
Casey bursts out laughing. âIs that how all of your dates go? Dinner â date â sex in the car?â
âNot really, but it would be rather hot,â he offers.Â
Caseyâs grinning at him, eyes sparkling at the thought. âI do like the thought of it as a date â our first date. We could get Christie or Beth to watch the boys overnight and maybe have sex not in a car.â
Severide grins. âLove the sound of that.â
âGood, then, itâs a date.â
***
âAre you nervous?â Severide teases as they get dressed for their date and Casey has changed his shirt twice and pants twice.
Casey coughs and shrugs. âNo, of course not, thereâs nothing to be â to be nervous about.â
Heâs not looking at Severide as he pulls on Severideâs favorite jersey, and he doesnât even seem to realize it.Â
Severide smiles as he walks up behind him, wrapping his arms around his waist and putting his chin on his shoulder. âCase, weâve been best friends for years.â
âYeah, I told you that I wasnât ââ
âBut you clearly are,â he interjects. âDonât be nervous, Iâve literally seen you naked, believe me there is nothing you could wear that would put me off sex with you tonight or wanting to date you.â
Casey laughs.Â
He knows that he makes a good point. Theyâre both new to this relationship and itâs both a new relationship and a practically settled into married life relationship. Itâs semi-conflicting, but he thinks that just gives them a head start. It probably just means that itâll make the long term of being together easier.Â
âIs it so bad that I wanted to look good for our first date?â
âNo, but you look good in anything.â
Casey flushes. âAnd youâre just saying that to get laid.â
âOh, please, I could be an asshole and still get laid, and we both know it,â Severide teases. âComplimenting you isnât some agenda. Itâs because I mean it.â
Casey hums. âI suppose itâs not like you have to try hard anyway.â
âSo, believe me, Iâm going to enjoy whatever youâre wearing. Just choose whatever you want.â
âOkay, thanks, Sev.â
***
Damn.Â
He probably shouldâve been a little more specific.Â
Like maybe to not wear something of Severideâs because, as it turns out, itâs not just seeing his name plastered across Caseyâs shoulders that turns him on, itâs knowing that heâs wearing something that belongs to Severide.Â
He didnât think wearing his jersey would be a big deal, but truthfully, heâs been a little distracted by Caseyâs wearing his jersey thinking about him wearing just his jersey. Â Thoughts of diving his head under the jersey and sucking hickeys into his chest as he withers and moans at his touch, begs for him to get his mouth on his dick, and looks so gone that he can barely remember his own name before he gives him what he wants.
He's so hot under the collar and so lost in the fantasy that he completely loses track of Caseyâs thoughts on the game that theyâre about to watch and how much he loves that Severide buys them tickets every year until Casey offers him something on his spoon.
He accepts whatever it is and is surprised by the sugary and sweet taste of brownies and ice cream in his mouth. He loves ice cream on top of brownies, itâs one of those rare treats that Casey will get for him and the boys, but never for himself.
âYou ordered me dessert?â Severide teases, snapping out of his fantasy and accepting another bite as they both scoot a little closer in the booth.
âWhat makes you think I didnât order it for both of us,â Casey teases, despite not taking a bite himself and continuing to feed Severide with a loving smile that Severide kind of wants to kiss senseless.Â
âBecause I know you,â Severide offers, watching as Casey doesnât even make an attempt to take a bite himself and instead chooses to continue feeding Severide. Â âEven before I knew the extent of your lack of sweet tooth since we started raising the boys together, I know that you only cave for sweets on our birthdays because of the boys, and thereâs also the fact that you keep feeding me rather than taking a bite yourself.â
Casey flushes even as he offers another bite. âMaybe I just wanted to cool you off since you seemed a little hot under the collar.â
âI donât know what youâre talking about,â he denies, but all Casey has to do is look down and see how turned on he is.Â
âOh, so you havenât spent the last twenty minutes fantasying about the things youâd like to do to me just because Iâm wearing something of yours,â Casey offers, eyebrows raised, slight smirk on his face, eyes glinting mischievously, the hand not offering him the dessert sliding along his thigh to his dick. âMaybe itâs not just your name written across my shoulders, maybe itâs the idea that I have your scent on me, claiming as yours.â
âFuck,â Severide breathes, his dick hard in his jeans.
Heâs grateful that they chose a low-lit bar and pizzeria for dinner. Thereâs too much noise and not enough light for anyone to see whatâs going on, part of why they chose it for a first date.Â
âFuck, Case, I ââ
He really really wants to fuck Casey right here, right now, and judging by the look in his eyes, Casey is a smug asshole screwing with him.Â
Especially as he pulls his hand away and puts some distance between them, scooting further away in the booth.Â
âWha â where are you â why?â he asks, nearly whining. He did not care where they were right now, all wants is to drag Casey into the bathroom or his car and have his way with him because he certainly wasnât going to make it home like this.
âBecause we have a game to get to and you need to cool down not get more hot and bothered.â
âYes, but you canât just leave me high and dry,â Severide retorts.
âThatâs what you get for looking at me like a snack knowing damn well that we have a game to get to and you canât do anything until later,â Casey teases, grinning.
âYouâre such an asshole.â
âSays the guy that wanted this date and spent most of it imagining the things Iâd gladly let him do to me at home where we clearly shouldâve had this date.â
Despite his compliant, Caseyâs still smiling at him.Â
Severide smiles at that thought. At home dates sound so much better if he can just spend them fucking Casey silly. âFair. I suppose our next date should be at home.â
âGotta make it through this one first, and youâre not doing so hot, no wonder you donât have many second dates,â Casey jokes, but he gives him a wink and a smile.
âRude,â Severide retorts as he finishes off the dessert. âI happen to be a great dater, youâre just⊠distracting.â
Casey laughs. âIâll take that as a compliment.â
âYou should.â
***
Casey loves this date.Â
As much as he teased Severide about only thinking about getting laid while at dinner, he absolutely loved the way Severide had been looking at him. It gave him all sorts of butterflies in his stomach and made him feel good.
Sometimes, he wonders if heâs just easy â sharing a bed, living together, not having to worry about the impact on the boys â but seeing Severide want him so much sends a warm feeling of assurance through him. He clearly wants Casey as much as anyone else heâs dated, and he has made a point to want to do date-like things together (even if he got distracted along the way).
The game was just as good attending together as it had been when they were just friends, even if every brush of their hands and Severide insisting on treating Casey since it was his idea for this date had Casey all a flutter. He couldnât wait to get him home and kiss him silly.
Best first date in a while, which makes him unbelievably happy.
âI like your smile,â Severide says, as he glances at Casey from the driverâs seat, when he stops at a light.Â
âWho says itâs over?â Severide teases. âKinda hoping youâd invite me in for a nightcap.â
He winks at him, and they both laugh.
Casey grins. âWe literally share a bed and had sex before dinner and youâre out here hoping,â he teases.
Severide laughs. âWell, Iâve been told that I shouldnât assume sex all the time after a date.â
âBelieve me, Sev,â Casey starts as he pulls over in front of Mollyâs â well, on the street by Mollyâs. He places a hand on Severideâs thigh. âI canât see any reason why you wouldnât get lucky with me as your date.â
âFuck,â Severide breathes, and he glances down at Caseyâs hand on his thigh. âOkay â we â we always go to Mollyâs after the game, but if youâre going to get me all hot and bothered and deny me again, I donât think I can go in there and pretend like I donât want to fuck you silly the entire time.â
The swoop in Caseyâs stomach at the thought of Severide looking at him like heâs looking at him right now, makes him wanna abandon their usual stop by Mollyâs, even if he knows theyâll get questioned about it on their next shift.
Instead, he glances at the backseat then at Severide, whose eyes are wide and gleeful because he knows what Caseyâs thinking.
Still, Casey offers, âOr ⊠you did say that a lot of your dates involve sex in your carâŠâ
âIâm going to have so much fun with you,â Severide says, before he grabs his face and kisses him deeply.Â
Casey melts against him, loving the taste of him of beer and nachos from the game. Â
He feels Severideâs hand on his thigh and pushes back slightly, âWe should â at least in the backseat?â
Severide nods, grinning. âYes. A bit more space.â
âGood.â
***
Severide canât believe how insanely happy he is right now. Â
He never imagined dating a man, let alone Casey, would leave him in such a state of satisfied bliss â even getting teased at Mollyâs, not that they stayed long (didnât even see most of the crew at 51) â couldnât put a damper of what was the worldâs best first date.
It was perfect.Â
They got to go to their favorite sport together, enjoy each otherâs company and loved messing with each other all night long culminating in hot-as-fuck sex that continues to get hotter and hotter the more they do it.
Heâs surprised that no one noticed how happy and satisfied they both were at Mollyâs, although admittedly the ones that usually comment and notice werenât there, but even Herrmann, who still loves to tease, noticed nothing odd just teased them about the usual. Which is probably for the best. He knows it makes them both more than a little uneasy at getting found out like that.Â
Still, coming home after Mollyâs and spending the night teasing and enjoying themselves together just made it so much better.
âSomeoneâs happy,â Casey teases him, cuddling into him.Â
âArenât you?â
âIâm thrilled,â Casey admits. âItâs different dating not just a guy but my best friend, but if all of our dates are this fun, Iâm really going to enjoy dating you.â
Severide laughs. âI was thinking the same thing.â
âIt was nice going out, too, but I think at-home dates will be much more fun.â
Caseyâs giving him his best Iâm-so-innocent look that Severide no longer buys because he knows better.Â
âYouâre full of surprises, but Iâm going to have to so much fun with you.â
He kisses the top of Caseyâs head and feels him smile against his chest.Â
âI look forward that.â
âGood.â
Casey yawns and then he yawns, and he knows that theyâll probably drift off soon. They have to get the boys early tomorrow, anyway.
âWe should get some sleep, but it was a great date.â
âYeah, it was,â Severide replies, smiling. âGood night, Case.â
âNight, Sev,â Casey says, giving him one last kiss and then, settling down, ready to go to sleep, both of them happy and satisfied as they cuddle together after the best first date ever.
And all he can think as he drifts off to sleep is that he canât wait for their next date because as long as itâs with Casey, itâll be just as brilliant as this one.Â
Haymitch wasn't supposed to be there, but when he allies with Maysilee, he becomes determined to bring them both home.

Haymitch wasnât supposed to be here.Â
If the kid that was picked last hadnât run off, if he hadnât stood up and rebelled at the worst possible time, he wouldâve spent his birthday literally anywhere else â with his Ma and Sid.
Instead, heâs here.
In an arena for the Hunger Games with forty-seven other tributes, only one of whom he could bring home with him.
Not that he thought going home was even really possible.
He doesnât even know why heâs fighting so hard for â his family is better off if he dies in this arena, but as the fake storm that has driven him and his ally, Maysilee, into a nearby cave, thunders and rocks their cave outside, he canât resist fighting.
Fighting, if not for himself, then for her.Â
They already lost their other district partners, and sheâs a fighter.Â
She deserves to go home to her twin sister, especially if he can help her get there.
So, heâs fighting â for her and if he wins, too, well, maybe he could fix his mistakes for his family. If the President lets him.
First, he has to get them out of here.
The cave is cold and damp and terrible, but at least theyâre not alone.
The only thing that has him continuing on is Maysilee. So, he wraps on arm around her and tries to keep them both warm enough to get through this storm to fight another day.Â
She wiggles uncertainly in his arms, but even she knows that theyâll be warmer together. That they can weather the storm together.
***
Itâs too cold.
It feels like itâs been days, but he knows that itâs only been a night.Â
Maysilee is shivering in his arms, and the storm is raging outside their cave. They havenât slept, theyâre hungry and they canât possibly keep going like this.
âHay, we canât keep doing this,â Maysilee says, trying to wiggle in closer. âThere has to be something else we can do.â
âWe donât have any wood for a fire,â he retorts, trying to suppress his own shivers.  He lowers his voice even though heâs sure the cameras and mics can probably pick it up, but he whispers, anyway. âTheyâll probably get bored soon, and we can â you know, get out of here.â
âThat doesnât explain why they did it in the first place, storms are boring, and no one likes watching tributes hiding out,â Maysilee counters, as if she actually cares about watching the Games or the Capitolites that enjoy the entertainment of the Games.
No one in the district likes watching the Games. They watch because they have to, not because they want to.Â
Sheâs right, though. Thereâs no entertainment value to be had here.
UnlessâŠ
âMaybe theyâre looking for something spicy to happen,â Haymitch teases.
âWhat? On national television?â she scoffs, unbelievably.
âMost of us wouldnât survive to have to deal with embarrassment, and it is cold.â
Heâs not being serious, and she knows that, but still she teases, âItchy Mitchy Haymitchy getting lucky in the Hunger Games is not happening.â
He laughs, then, coughs. âYou just told the entire country your horrible nickname for me.â
âItâs not that bad, I could definitely think of a worse nickname,â she offers, teasingly.
âFor me? The least you could do is make nicknames for other people,â Haymitch retorts.
Maysilee hums. âI guess thatâs one way to entertain ourselves.â
âItâs the best option we got.â
âGood.â
***
Somehow, they did get lucky.Â
Not in the fun way, exactly, but they mustâve entertained the capitolites enough to get a blanket and some food, which still led to them huddling together, but a whole lot warmer than they were before.
They both send up a thank you to whoeverâs watching because regardless of how much they hate the capitol right now, they really needed this.
âHow do you think the others are faring?â Haymitch questions, a bit uncertainly.Â
Things were good for them, for now, but he just wants this mess to be over â as soon as possible.
Maysilee hums. âIf we want to go home? Not as good as us, but ⊠I hope itâs not too miserable. Iâdâve been miserable without you.â
Haymitch kisses the top of her head, which causes her to blush. âMe too. Donât know what wouldâve done without you as my partner.â
âYeah.â
***
Somehow, they won.
They won together.
They brought home a victory.Â
Heâs still not sure how it all happened, but all he does know is that they won.Â
They made it home (the celebrations and healing after they won was too much, but they handled it together).
Theyâre almost home.Â
âAre we ready for this?â Haymitch asks as the train rushes them home to the district.
âProbably not as ready as we should be,â Maysilee offers. Â âBut at least weâre together, right?â
Haymitch laces his hand with Maysilee, grateful that theyâll never have to deal with everything alone. Instead, they can deal with it together.
He kisses her cheek. âYeah, yeah, at least weâre in this together.â
She turns and kisses his lips. It may have come as a surprise, but somehow this girl wormed her way into his heart from enemies to friends to lovers. Heâs really glad that theyâll have each other to help deal with the chaos of being mentors next year.
The train pulls into the station, jarring them apart.
Peacekeepers come to get them, and it doesnât matter if theyâre ready or not â theyâre home.
He lets go of Maysileeâs hand as sheâs led out first onto the platform, before he follows suit.
The district stands at the train station ready to welcome them home. Two families heartbroken and two families thrilled, but all Haymitch can do is lace his hand with Maysileeâs and lift them in the air together knowing that even heartbroken, the district needed a win after forty years of straight losses.
There are cheers and smiling faces, and all Haymitch can think is â they won.Â
He wasnât supposed to be there, but he was meant to come home, and he couldnât be happier.Â
Sometimes, things just work out and he couldnât be more grateful. Now and forever.
Alex plans a surprise vacation off the grid for the two of them.

***
There are times, even years after coming out that they both want some peace and quiet. Times when theyâve spent a little too much time playing the Prince or playing the First Son and a little less time getting to be themselves.Â
So, Alex plans for a time out in the middle of nowhere, a cabin in the woods where they can just be together and alone.Â
Itâs a small cabin, a lot smaller than most of the places that Henryâs ever stayed in, and even smaller than some of the places that Alex has ever been in, but itâs nice and cozy.
Barely one room with some curtains to hide the bed and make it seem like a second room, but honestly, they didnât need more space.
This would be perfect for their little getaway.
âThere it is,â Alex says, happily as he drives around the curve to see the cabin at the end of the road. Itâs very isolated, which was intentional, but cute.
Henry hums. âItâs cute, love.â
âYouâll like it, Iâm sure.â
***
Itâs no surprise that they get easily distracted the moment that they enter the cabin. Since the night before when they began packing for this trip, theyâd been teasing about all the fun that could have in a cabin in the woods.Â
So, of course, after a very quick tour around (easy given the coziness of the cabin helps with that), they both quickly divulge themselves of their clothes and make sure of the bed.Â
***
Itâs just as cozy as the pictures online showed, and it doesnât take long to settle in after their fun and shower. Now, that theyâre both satisfied and clean, Alex has a chance to actually look around.
âLook, baby, thereâs a little balcony where we can eat dinner together,â Alex offers, once he takes in the features of this cozy cabin.
The sun has already set, and they had stopped for dinner on the way up here, so thatâll be for tomorrow, especially since it started raining while they were cuddled up in the bed.
âItâs too bad that the weather isnât being more cooperative,â Henry offers with a slight smile.
Alex canât resist running a hand down his chest. âWell, itâs not as if we canât easily entertain ourselves.â
âTrue.â
***
They tease each other about their movies choices as always.Â
Itâs one of Alexâs favorite things to tease about Star Wars and how Henry is entirely wrong for his choice of his favorite Star Wars. Itâs become a joke between them. One of their little inside jokes.
No one really gets it.
But itâs fun to tease and joke and cuddle up on the couch watching movies as the rain pours down outside their windows.Â
Itâs just as much fun doing this as it is to go hiking as long as being completely out of cell service gives them the solitude that theyâve missed recently.Â
All that matters is getting to be together.
Heâs happy being here, no matter what.
***
The weather clears the next day, and Alex absolutely loves getting to hike with Henry.Â
Heâd chosen a more remote area, combined with it being a colder part of the year, the trail is pretty much empty.Â
So, they can hike hand-in-hand down the trail, stopping for kisses and views, and itâs ⊠everything that Alex has needed after so much time playing his part.
âLook at that, baby,â Alex says, as they reach the top of the hike.Â
A beautiful waterfall is in front of them.Â
âItâs beautiful just like my love,â Henry says, giving him a glowing, loving smile.
âCharmer,â Alex teases, but he canât resist giving him a kiss.Â
He wishes he could give him a deeper kiss, but even out in the woods, they might not be completely alone, so he doesnât.
âAnd donât you forget it,â Henry teases.
They share another kiss.
Alex looks up at the sun and he really wants to enjoy a dinner as the sunsets, so he says, âWe should head back so we can have a nice dinner as the sun sets.â
âSounds brilliant, love.â
***
Henry always loves watching Alexâs efforts to be as romantic as the romantic lead in Henryâs favorite romance novels. He knows that Alex doesnât have to try to be Henryâs perfect, dream man, but he does enjoy Alexâs efforts.
He loved watching him plan their little surprise getaway, the excitement of this cute little surprise cabin, the plans for their hikes and romantic dinners as the sunset.
Itâs perfect and heâs easily quite pleased by the whole thing.
âYouâre staring, baby,â Alex teases, looking up from the stove.Â
âOf course I am, love, I have the most amazing man cooking me dinner and planning romantic getaways that couldnât be more perfect if he tried,â Henry offers with a pleased smile. âI love you so much, Alex.â
Alex flushes, pleased. âI love you, too, Hen.â
He gives him a kiss, and then, Alex continues, âI just â weâve been so stretched thin playing our parts that weâve barely seen each other. I just wanted to show you how much I care.â
âI always know how much you care, love,â Henry assures him. âHowever, Iâll never turn down a surprise vacation with the love of my life.â
Alex grins, brilliantly. âGood because I think we should do more of this â off the grid vacation stuff. Just you and me and a cozy little cabin in the middle of nowhere.â
Severide notices that Casey's withdrawn a bit around Hallie's deathday, and he reminds Casey that he can talk to him about her, if he wants to.
Ao3
***
May is always a little weird for Severide.Â
Thereâs Motherâs Day, but he canât recall the last time heâs seen his mother (or the last time she called), and he sort-of resents Casey trying to make a big deal out of Motherâs Day for the boys. Â Itâs bad enough that the school makes a big deal for it (which Griffin resents because even when they tried to invite his maternal grandmother to the event, he said âwhy would I wanna celebrate someone who didnât want me?â which caused quite the fight), but Casey doing it, too, is annoying.
Casey, though, still maintains that while Heather made mistakes, they also made mistakes and they promised her that signing away her rights wouldnât mean losing visitation, and that making mistakes doesnât mean that she isnât still their mother. Just because she canât actually act like much of a mother being behind bars doesnât mean she isnât their mother and she still deserves to see them.
It's one of those things that always kinda of taints the month a bit, but they get through it. Severide concedes because he wouldnât be here if it werenât for Heatherâs choices, and he doesnât have to see her. Casey pretends that heâs happy about it, but Severide knows heâs not. Still, they survive.
The other reason May is a little weird is because of Shayâs death. Despite working through his grief and being in a much better place than heâd been four years ago, he usually canât stop thinking about her around this time.Â
Casey always gives him time alone when he wants it, although sometimes, heâll tell stories to the boys when he wants to talk about her. Itâs nice talking about her sometimes, he usually does something with Kendra, too, who misses Shay, too.
But her death day had passed, and heâs feeling better just in time for him to notice that Caseyâs being a bit odd.
It starts just after Motherâs Day, he gets a card in the mail that makes him look sad, but when Severide asks him about it, he shoves it in his underwear drawer and says itâs nothing.Â
Heâs known Casey long enough, and recently, intimately enough, not push and pry.
So, he waits, wondering what could be wrong with his boyfriend. What could be on that mind of his?Â
***
Aside from being a bit quieter, he doesnât act any different. He still smiles at him with a brilliant smile, still holds his hand like itâs his lifeline, still that badass Captain that heâs been since January.Â
If you didnât know him well enough, then you wouldnât have even noticed, but Severide isnât the only one noticing.
âHey, Severide, you gotta sec?â Herrmann questions as heâs walking passed the common room on shift about a week after the card thing happens.Â
Itâs mainly empty aside from Herrmann and Mouch, everyone wanting to spend time outside with the weather so good, except, of course, Casey, whoâs hiding out in his office.
âYeah, sure, whatâs up?â he asks, stepping into the common room.
âEverything okay with Casey? He seems a little off,â Mouch questions. âSomething happen orâŠ?â
Severide shakes his head. Casey doesnât really like to share with the Firehouse about their home life, but this isnât really ⊠might not be something between them, and itâs Herrmann and Mouch, the two longest members of Caseyâs team. They mean a lot to him, even as much as they tease all the time.
âNothingâs changed or happened,â if he ignores that they donât know that he and Casey have started dating, âBut heâs been ⊠I donât know, sad lately?â
âSad?â Herrmann hums, thoughtful for a second.  âYeah, that fits. I suppose maybe that makes sense given the timing.â
âWhy because of Motherâs Day?â Mouch questions. âHe never really cared about before, although I suppose with the boysâŠâ
He looks up at Severide, who nods. âYeah, he â going by the jail probably doesnât help.â He frowns. âI mean, I was a little sad thinking about Shay, but he was never all that close to Shay ââ
âYou can be a self-absorbed asshole, sometimes, you know that?â Herrmann questions, voice sounding harsh, like he canât believe Severide could be missing the obvious, but before Severide could do more than bristle, he says, âHe lost Hallie around this time, no?â
Ohhhh. Fuck, heâs such a bad boyfriend. He hasnât once thought about Hallie, even though Casey literally mentioned her when they had that conversation about his sexuality with the boys. The sad, heartbroken look that crossed his face at the thought of the woman he wanted to spend his life with⊠he shouldâve realized.
Of course everything that has happened in the last six months would have reminded him of her. His first real love.Â
Hallie was easily the love of his life, and he took her passing hard, especially since she was murdered and thereâs a part of Casey that still questions if Voight had some hand in it to punish him.Â
Fuck.Â
âYouâre right â thatâs probably what it is,â Severide states, the guilt bubbling in his stomach. âI, uh, Iâll go talk to him.â
***
Severide didnât get the chance because thereâs a fire that takes up most of the rest of the night. When everyone comes back, theyâre tired and exhausted. Thereâs a rush for the showers and beds that is so overwhelming that itâs easy for him to disappear to Caseyâs office.Â
He gets there before Casey and waits leaning against his desk and taking in all of the photos of their little family. Their sisters, the boys, he never even realized that Casey still had two-picture frame of him and Hallie up in his new office.Â
The frame reads love across time across the top with past under one and present under the other. The first picture was a picture from their first date. He and Andy had relentlessly teased him about how nervous he was, insisting that they be there to tease. He looks so young and innocent. All of the pain theyâd been through not touching them, yet.
The losses in life (aside from his father) far in the distant future.Â
The second was their second first date. Hallie had just come back from abroad, knowing only one thing â that she loved Casey and wanted to do whatever she could to try again and make it work even if that meant having kids. Severide had been there had been there for that one, too. Teasing him, missing Andy, trying to make up for being an ass about Heather.Â
Casey looked a whole lot older, a lot less innocent, but still terribly in love with woman beside him. He never wanted anything more than a future with her.Â
First love cuts the deepest. Â Â That much was obvious.
âSev? What are you doing in here? Iâm not in the mood ââ Casey starts, not even looking at him and making his way to his bed.Â
He does look a bit like a mess. Eyes a little red that have nothing to do with smoke from the fire, heâs sure, given the wetness of his hair and the cleanness of everything else.
âIâm not here for that,â Severide replies, softly. He knows that Casey doesnât mean to make it seem like heâs only interested in sex with him (because he isnât), but he assures him anyway.Â
âOh?â Casey questions, as he stops his movement to the bed and looks at him, surprised. âWhy then?â
âFor being a self-absorbed ass,â Severide states, lifting the frame and showing it to Casey. âI didnât⊠I was so focused on my own thoughts about losing Shay that I forgot about Hallie.â
He takes it from Severide, not looking at it as he puts it back. âIâm fine.â He swallows a lump in his throat. âAnd you havenât done anything wrong.â
âI just â I wanna be here for you if you wanna talk about her,â he offers as Casey turns away back to the bed. Thereâs a distance between them, here, that they havenât had in a while.  And not physical distance, but an emotional distance. âYou donât have to, obviously, but itâs been a while ââ
âFive years,â Casey states, swallowing thickly. Despite his best efforts, itâs obvious heâs hurting. âNot even half the time we were together, even discounting the months we were apart that last year.â
âExactly,â Severide says, softly. âItâs been five years, maybe you wanna talk about her.â
âThatâs not weird?â Casey asks, sitting on the edge of the bed. Heâs looking up at him uncertainly.Â
There still feels like thereâs a wall between them despite the distance being less than ten feet. As if Caseyâs trying to hold things back, hold his feelings back because he thinks Severide would be⊠hurt? Jealous? Something about him hurting over Hallie.
Damn. He really shouldâve realized this sooner.Â
He approaches, slowly, allowing for him to move if heâs not wanting Severide in his personal bubble.Â
When he sits beside him, taking his hand in his, he says, âOf course not. I know how important she is - was to you. Hallie was a big part of you as much as your truck is, and wanting to talk about her isnât a surprise.â
âItâs not just⊠talking about herâŠâ
âItâs okay to still be hurting over her,â Severide offers, reaching up his other hand to run it through his hair. âA love like that doesnât just⊠fade away. She was special and it doesnât mean that your feelings for me are any less just because youâre still hurting over her.â
Casey looks from his eyes to the hand heâs holding, and Severide squeezes it as reassurance.
âItâs okay that she was my first love and youâre my second?â he asks, even though they havenât said it, they both know that the feeling is there, eyes searching his for confirmation. âItâs okay with you that I ⊠I talk about her? Knowing that?â
Severide nods, and smiles. âIâm not your normal boyfriend ââ
âConsidering youâre my first ââ
âYou know what I mean,â Severide retorts, cutting him off. âIâm not your normal partner, I was there when you lost her, when you fought to come back to work trying to pretend that you werenât heartbroken. I shouldâve done more, been better, but I canât go back to be a better friend â here, now, I can be a better boyfriend, and I would love if you wanted to talk about her with me.â
Casey leans over and kisses his cheek. âOkay, yeah, Iâd like that.â
Severide gives him a smile. âGood, then, why donât we lay down and do that pillow talk thing you love so much.â
âThought you said that only counted if we had sex first.â
Heâs teasing and smiling and itâs the best feeling to get Casey out of that shell heâs been protecting himself in.Â
âJust this once â we can count it,â he offers with a smile.
âDeal.â
***
They spent all night talking about Hallie, cuddled up together in his Captainâs Quarters with Severide running his hand through Caseyâs hair as he talked, peppering his head with kisses every so often.
Casey was loathed to admit it, but the card from her sister made him feel bad. Heâs sure that it wasnât the intention, but it reminded him that on the first anniversary of her passing, heâd been trying to get engaged to Dawson (and wasnât it obvious now that heâd been covering his feelings by hiding with another relationship). The second, heâd been overwhelmed by all the fighting and the boys. The last two years, he hadnât really thought about her either (well, he had but not enough â he didnât go by her grave or answer her sisterâs calls when she wanted someone to talk to about her loss), not because he didnât love her⊠Hallie had been the first great love of his life, but because he doesnât really do grief well.
And, well, heâd been so busy with everything else in his life that he hadnât even made the time to think about her (at least not often), and she deserved better than that.Â
Then, of course, this year.
He knows that heâs fallen madly in love with Severide. Everything about the two of them together just fit perfectly.Â
Maybe it was raising the boys together, maybe it was melting their lives together, falling slowly together, planning a future regardless of dating⊠heâll never know, but six months in and if it wasnât for the secret, he absolutely could see proposing and not for the wrong reasons like it had been with Dawson.Â
And that scared him in a way.Â
Sometimes he wonders if it was fate, and that makes him feel guiltier because if it was fate then HallieâŠ
So, yeah, he was feeling guilty for falling in love, again.Â
It took so long for him to feel this way about Hallie and there is a part of him that still loves her, but Severide, he⊠he just feels right.Â
It just scared him. Like he was letting her down, forgetting about her when she deserved better.
Luckily, heâs got a pretty great boyfriend. One that doesnât mind being his second great love and doesnât mind taking Casey to the cemetery and supporting him as he talks to her. Tells her that he misses her. Tells her about the boys and Severide.Â
Even though heâs moved on, thereâs a part of him that will always love her. And a part of him that will always see something randomly and think of her, heart clenched at the lost future that they couldâve had.  Maybe not on the anniversary of her death, but randomly throughout the year.Â
When he thinks about her, he misses her, but itâs still okay that heâs fallen in love with someone else. Someone who understands.
So, he lays the flowers on her gave when heâs done talking and he stands, taking Severideâs offered hand and he says, âSometimes, I feel like a widower.â
âYou kinda are,â Severide offers, sincerely. âMaybe you never got married, but you were with her for twelve years, your entire adult life at the time that she passed â was murdered, and just because you werenât married, doesnât mean you canât feel like it.â
Casey hums. âAnd just because I found someone else doesnât mean that I didnât love her.â
Severide reaches up with his free hand and runs the hand through his hair, reassuringly. âOf course not, she wouldnât want you to be unhappy for the rest of your life just because she canât be here, and I think sheâd be happy for you â you know that she never wanted anything more than for you to be happy.â
Casey appreciates the reassurance. Itâs exactly what he needs.Â
He leans forward and kisses him. Softly and sweetly.Â
Not starting anything just showing his love without actually saying it. Heâs not necessarily ready to say just yet, not today, not yet, but soon.
âI think so, too,â he admits. He smiles back at the grave and the flowers, a warmth passing through him. âNow, letâs go home.â
Casey and Severide love playing games together now that they're a couple, and their games lead an admission that has been obvious even if it's never been said.

Not long after realizing just how much he loves Severide (even if he hasnât said it, yet), Casey starts playing a little game with Severide.Â
He knows how much he enjoys candy, particularly Hershey kisses, so he takes to buying family sized bags of Hershey kisses and stuffing them into his pockets of his sweatshirts, and when he least expects it asks, âHey, Sev, would you like a kiss,â and when Severide expects an actual kiss, he gives him a chocolate kiss instead.
Of course, he almost always gives him a real kiss, too.
He loves the little games that they play together.
So, he shouldnât be surprised when heâs cooking one day, weeks later that Severide wraps his arms around his waist and teases, âCan I get a kiss, Case?â
He turns, expecting to give him a kiss but Severide laughs and says, âNot a kiss-kiss, I mean a chocolate kiss.â
Casey huffs and playfully teases, âYou can only get a chocolate kiss if you give me a real one.â
Severide gives him a pouty look for a few seconds before caving with a, âYou drive a hard bargain,â and kissing him senseless.
He could almost forget that heâs cooking and just focus entirely on Severide if not for, âCan I get a kiss, too, dad?â breaking them apart.
They look down at Ben, who is always trying to sneak candy (just like Severide) and Casey smiles.
He lets go of Severide and kisses Benâs forehead, causing him to squirm away.Â
âNot that kind of kiss, Dad!â Ben groans.
Casey laughs as he gives him both chocolate kisses. âNew rule: Want a kiss, get a kiss.â
Benâs already skipped off with his chocolate kiss, leaving Casey alone with Severide, who asks, âSo, every time I kiss you, I get a chocolate kiss? Sounds like a good excuse to kiss you.â
Caseyâs smiling as he runs a hand down Severideâs chest. âAs if you need an excuse to kiss me.â
Severide hums, eyeing his lips and pulling him close by the waist. âYouâre right, I never need a reason to kiss you, I just get to â whenever I want to, which is all the time.â
Casey leans forward, kissing him lightly once again. âGood, âcause I want to kiss you all the time, too.â
***
Severide loves this little game.Â
He loves that Casey will tease the boys with forehead kisses and they both tease back. He loves that he gets both a chocolate kiss and a real kiss.
He even loves teasing Casey in front of others.
The first time he asks, âCan I get a kiss,â in front of second watch, Cruz drops the juice heâd gotten out of the fridge.Â
Casey knows that he doesnât mean the normal exchange â want a kiss, get a kiss â not in front of everyone else, but Severide is teasing to see the reaction. Â
Heâd been hoping it would help in his efforts to potentially be able to tell second shift, but the shock is clearly not a good sign.
Still, Casey smiles at him as he pulls out the chocolate kisses from his sweatshirt (sadly, not Severideâs) pocket. âYou are a chocolate fiend.â
âAnd youâre an enabler,â Severide teases, smiling at him, wishing he could kiss him.
He sees the crew relax, realizing that it was just a joke, just messing with them again.Â
Heâll get his real kiss, later.
***
Caseyâs taken to playing their game whenever Dawson flirts with him at the House. He loves throwing her off with the idea that he wants to kiss Severide. She doesnât believe it, but she gets the idea that Caseyâs not really interested in her flirting with him.
It helps that Dawsonâs flirting seems to be some kind of red flare for Severide, who immediately comes teasing for a kiss just because he can.
He loves it.Â
Itâs as if Severideâs claiming him as his, and it, honestly, is ridiculously hot.Â
The way Severide makes him feel⊠itâs been a long time since heâs felt this way.
***
âCan I get a kiss,â Severide teases as he leans into the doorway of Caseyâs office. Itâs late on shift and the only person that is awake right now is Herrmann, who has decided that heâs going to attempt to cook for his anniversary with Cindy. Itâs a first, and the entire firehouse think itâs going to be an utter disaster, but heâd been more focused on getting to kiss Casey instead.
Heâd given him a look when he made his way through the common room to Caseyâs office but said nothing for once. Just gave him a smile.Â
Severide was largely too busy thinking about having his way with Casey, especially since it was so late.Â
âYou? Always,â Casey says, glancing up from his paperwork.Â
Severide quickly moves inside, closing the door behind him, as Casey stands and meets him halfway. He throws his arms around Severideâs neck, as Severide wraps his arms around his waist, kissing him passionately.
He tastes a little like coffee because despite the late hour, he clearly wanted exactly this tonight.Â
âCouldnât wait?â Severide breathes as he pulls away to move to sucking on Caseyâs neck.
Casey groans as they shift so Caseyâs back is against the wall, putting him a little bit at Severideâs mercy.Â
âWith you? Â Never.â
Heâs breathing heavy and already hard against Severide, as Severide kisses his jaw and down his neck to the juncture between his neck and shoulder. He bites and sucks and Caseyâs thrusting against him, a leg wrapped around his waist.
âNot ⊠the kiss⊠I wanted,â he groans.
Severide leans back admiring the mark. âYeah, but you made me wait for my kiss, so now, you get to enjoy whatever kiss I give you.â
Casey gives him a playfully annoyed look. âAs long as you stick your hand down my pants, you can kiss me however you want.â
He kisses him again, moving them so theyâre headed towards the bed instead. Stripping him of his clothes, wanting nothing more than to kiss Casey everywhere.Â
He just canât get enough of this man.Â
Itâs as Casey is situated in the middle of the bed, taking him in as he strips himself and straddles his waist that Severide canât help, but say, âFuck, Case, I love you so damn much.â
He kisses him before he can respond, wanting to revel in the taste of his delicious boyfriend, but before he could move to suck on his dick, Casey pushes back, slightly, looking at him for sincerity, and says, âI love you, too.â
He hadnât even realized that itâd been the first time that heâs said it. Itâs been implied and teased about yet, you love me or dumbass that you love or something along that vein, but neither of them had actually said it.
It was obvious. He knows theyâve both felt it for a long time, but he knows that never said it.
âYeah, Case?â Severide confirms, running a hand down his chest. âYou love me as much as I love you?â
âI love you so damn much that I have completely abandoned my no-sex-at-the-firehouse rule that we pretty much keep breaking,â Casey admits with a smile. His hands run over Severideâs chest. âI love you so damn much that if we got caught and I had to leave 51, I wouldnât care as long as I had you.â
The warmth and butterflies that fill his stomach brings a brilliant smile to both of their faces. Heâs still hard and still very much wants to get off, but he leans down and nuzzles Caseyâs neck.Â
âDamn, I never thought Iâd get this lucky,â he mumbles into his neck. âFalling in love with my dream man, my best friend, my coparent, my partner.â He leans back so he can look him in the eyes. âI am serious, Case, I canât â I never imagined that weâd end up here, but I am so glad we did.â
âMe too,â Casey admits with a smile.Â
âI love you.â
âI love you, too.â

Love confessions while naked in the Captainâs office couldâve gone badly, like if an alarm had gone off or someone had interrupted, but luckily for them, they were able to truly enjoy themselves all night long.
Or at least most of the night.Â
It was around five when Casey woke and realized that Severide probably needed to get to his own office before the rest of the house wakes up.Â
So, he sends him off with a deep kiss and then when he canât fall asleep, again, he goes to the common room to making the coffee and breakfast only to find Herrmann in the kitchen.Â
âHey, youâre up early,â he jokes, moving to the coffee maker. He can see that Herrmannâs been failing at cooking whatever heâs been trying to cook.Â
âDidnât go to sleep,â Herrmann counters. âI kept burning my attempt at the dinner Iâm trying to figure out how to make for Cindy.â He eyes Casey for a second, then says, âIâm guessing you didnât get much sleep either.â
âWhat makes you say that?â Casey questions, despite the truth behind the statement.
Herrmann gives him a knowing look before returning to his sauce. Â âBecause Iâm not stupid.â
âI didnât ââ
âCasey,â Herrmann cuts him off. He focuses all of his attention on him, eyebrows lifted. âI saw Severide at about eleven last night go towards your office. Didnât see him again until about a half-hour ago.â
âThat doesnât mean ââ
âThe mark on your neck does,â Herrmann counters, plainly.
Fuck, Casey thinks as he checks to see that yes Severide did leave him a rather obvious mark last night.
âThat couldâve been there yesterday from ââ he attempts to lie, but Herrmann cuts him off.
âItâs fresh. Believe me, I know what they look like since Lee Henry keeps coming home with them,â Herrmann retorts. âI donât know why youâre lying, and I donât care, clearly, itâs a secret. Itâs just really obvious if youâre not careful.â
Casey canât honestly tell if heâs being supportive or not â did he not care because it doesnât affect him? Did he not care because he doesnât take it seriously? Did he not care because he didnât want to know about the crewâs love lives?Â
âIâll be more careful,â Casey says, slowly. He doesnât really want to be in this conversation, so he says, âIâm going to take this back to my office. Just, uh, can you not ââ
âI wonât say anything.â
âThanks.â
With that, he goes back to his office with his coffee and feeling more than a little uncertain. Herrmann knows, but he didnât exactly sound supportive. More hands off than heâd been expecting. Like donât ask, donât tell.Â
Somehow, there had been a part of him that had heard Severideâs tease that they would probably be supportive if they told the House that they were together and hoped for ⊠more than that what he got.
Ultimately, though, itâs probably just a sign that itâs better to keep this to themselves for now, and he can be happy with the knowledge that they can be happy and in love and itâs no oneâs business, but theirs.Â
And he couldnât be happier about that.
Maybe someday they could come out, but today isnât that day and thatâs okay.
Elsa's looking to propose to Emma, and hoping she says yes.

***
Since her arrival in Storybrooke, Elsa never dreamed that she would find someone that she connected with enough to fall in love.Â
Truthfully, the way sheâd been isolated most of her life with her powers, she never believed that sheâd be able to get close to anyone without fearing how she might hurt them, someday. If she could hurt her sister, whoâs to say a lover would fare any better?
But then, she gained control of her powers.Â
And found herself in a strange new land. A new land that even months after reuniting with her sister and discovering that she could never leave, sheâs only just now growing accustomed to.Â
One thing she has grown accustomed to ⊠is Emma.Â
Her feelings for Emma hadnât come as much of a surprise to her, though did seem to be a surprise to Emma. Luckily, having the support of her parents and her son helped her accept her feelings, and their first date had been at a grand ball Snow had thrown.
It seems crazy that she couldâve fallen in love in one night, one date, one ball, but she had.
Sheâs certain Emma did, too.
Now, only a couple months later, Elsa is ready to propose.Â
Sheâs just not sure what the custom is here. Did she petition to join their Royal family? Did she ask for permission? Did she just ask Emma? Should she wait for Emma to ask?
âWhat do you think I should do?â she asks Anna after she stops jumping up and down excitedly over the engagement ring in her hand.Â
âDoesnât Emma tease about how being a princess with the royalty rules goes entirely against the steps in feminism over the years?â Anna offers. âShe may not like you asking for permission, but⊠she could probably understand asking for a blessing.â
âSnow and David would probably prefer at least that, Snow did grow up like we did,â Elsa agrees. âI think thatâs what Iâll do. Ask for their blessing, first.â
Anna smiles and hugs her. âIâm happy for you, itâs good to see you so happy after so long.â
âThanks, sis.â
***
Elsa is a bit nervous as she sits in the loftâs kitchen with Snow and David. She had made a point to make sure that Emma would be out with Henry, today, before she stopped by.
âSo, Elsa, what brings you by?â Snow asks, after theyâve caught up on various things since she saw them last. Emma still lives here, but the place sheâd gotten with Anna and Kristoff had more space, so Emma (and Henry) usually visited their place, so she hasnât seen Snow and David much as of late.
âWell, I, um, I wasnât sure what the custom would be in this situation. This world is quite different to my land or even Misthaven, but I thought I could âŠâ she nervously pulls out the ring, â⊠ask for your blessing.â
Snow squeals nearly waking up Emmaâs brother, covering her mouth in excitement. David is grinning from ear to ear as he moves around the island to envelope her in a hug.Â
âOf course you have our blessing,â David says, brightly. âWe know how happy you make Emma.â
She looks from him to Snow, who is nodding. âAbsolutely. Weâre so happy for you both.â
She moves around the island herself to hug Elsa as well.Â
âThank you,â she says once they let go. She looks happily between them. âThank you, both. I â I wasnât sure if Emma would like the idea of permission, so I chose blessing instead.â
David smiles. âSheâll appreciate that.â
âSheâll recognize the traditions and yet, still appreciate trying to allow for the world she grew up in,â Snow adds.Â
âThatâs exactly what I was hoping for.â
âGood.â
***
Emmaâs all dressed up for once, well, in a nice summery dress.
She knows that Elsa is up to something.Â
Sheâs not quite sure what it is, but when Snow had begged her to come with her for a day of pampering, which included getting her nails done, and had sent her off on what she assumed was a regular date with a knowing grin and a canât wait to hear all about it, she knew something was up.
Still, as she walks hand-in-hand down the beach with Elsa, her right hand carries her sandals. Sheâs listening to Elsa chatter on about the romance of a walk along the beach as the sun begins to set.Â
âThe sunset is beautiful, isnât it?â Emma questions, as she stops. Sheâs distracted by the beauty for just a moment.
âNot as beautiful as you,â Elsa says and as Emma turns to her to comment on the cheesiness, she canât help freezing.
Elsa, a beauty in a complimentary blue dress, is down on one knee. A beautiful ring in the hand not holding Emmaâs hand.Â
âEmma, words cannot describe the amazing feeling I have felt since I met you. I never believed that I would ever meet someone that I would want to share my life with and then, I met you. I love you; will you marry me?â
âYes, yes, absolutely, yes,â Emma shouts, excitedly. She pulls her to her feet and throws her arms around her neck kissing her soundly.Â
She takes her time, kissing her, letting their lip gloss mix together into a new flavor that tastes just as good as their original flavors until they need to breathe.
She leans her forehead against Elsaâs as Elsa gleefully slides the ring on her finger.Â
âOh, good, I was hoping youâd say yes.â
Sheâs half-teasing and Emma canât resist teasing back, âYou thought I wouldnât?â
âWe havenât been together long, so I thoughtâŠâ Elsa trails off, but Emma gets it.
âSnow always says when you know, you know. I think there was a part of me thatâs known since we met. Just took a bit to realize.â
âMe too,â Elsa admits. âBut ⊠we have the rest of our lives together and it doesnât matter how long it took to get here, as long as we leave here together.â
Being out and happily engaged on the job hasn't exactly made thing easier when some people can't seem to wrap their minds around it, good thing they have the support of others and each other.

One of Severideâs favorite things about being out to the firehouse is that he doesnât have to second guess his choices when it comes to showing attention to Casey while at the firehouse or out in public anymore.Â
Which is especially nice because Caseyâs been doing his paperwork in the common room rather than his office â apparently, his team claims they miss him hanging out in the common room, which they thought he stopped doing because he became Captain, not because he was using his Captainâs office for privacy.
So, even though anyone can see, he can still play with Caseyâs free hand as he reads and marks up reports.  Which he loves doing, especially since he got to put his ring on Caseyâs finger⊠at least an engagement ring.Â
He canât wait until it is joined by a wedding band. Then, heâll have two rings to play with.
Every so often Casey will glance up from paperwork to look at him and give him a smile before returning to his paperwork.Â
Severide doesnât really pay attention to the chatter from Truck, too focused on Caseyâs hand and the ring. The reminder that by the end of the next year, theyâll be married. Most of the firehouse jokes that theyâve already been married for years, but this is a big deal for him.Â
Theyâve both been engaged twice, with Severide married once â for not even a month and for all the wrong reasons â and this time theyâre actually going to follow through with it and to the love of their lives.
And he canât wait.
Heâs disappointed when Squad gets a call and he has to let go, but he doesnât hesitate to kiss the ring before he runs off.Â
Heâll get to come back to it later.
***
Squadâs only gone for ten minutes before Kidd asks, âDoes he do that a lot?â
Casey glances over at her. âDoes who do what?â
âSeveride,â she says with duh sounding voice. âAnd being so attached to you that heâs playing with your hand all day.â
He doesnât exactly like her tone, but he says, âYeah, pretty much.â
âDoesnât it annoy you?â
âNope,â Casey retorts, trying not to sound too clipped. Â
While the firehouse had been fairly supportive (or at least it appeared so at the engagement party at Mollyâs), itâs still so new (to the firehouse) that everyoneâs trying wrap their minds around it because despite the jokes itâs apparently a big deal now that itâs ârealâ.Â
âBeing one handed is inconvenient, no?â Otis questions.Â
âNo, itâs not.â
âYou donât really want to be touched all the time, do you?â
Before he can respond, Herrmann jumps in, âIs it really your business?â
âWeâre just curious,â Otis offers, slightly affronted. âNothingâs wrong with curiosity.â
âAre you curious or are you just being an ass?â Mouch counters. âBecause if it were Casey and Brett and Brett liked to play with his hand, you wouldnât ask if it was annoying.â
He can tell that his chats with Herrmann and Mouch after Ritter joined seemingly got through to them.  Heâs ⊠kinda touched, it helps him not feel so alone when itâs clear thereâs a struggle with some people understanding that nothingâs really changed just because now, they know heâs more than friends with Severide.
âHe was with Dawson while she was here and they werenât all touchy all the time,â Kidd offers before Otis can respond.Â
âMaybe I like Severide touching me more than I liked Dawson touching me or maybe weâre just making up for lost time,â Casey says standing and grabbing his paperwork, âOr maybe itâs none of your business why I like or want Severide to touch and play with my hand anytime he wants.â
He doesnât wait for a response, as he takes his paperwork and goes back to his office, probably a bit too angry for such a simple interaction, but itâs just annoying that anyoneâs questioning anything when they hadnât questioned anything with Dawson or Hallie.Â
Why is it that different for him to be with Severide?
He vaguely hears Herrmann reprimanding them, but itâs not going to change anything.
At least not anytime soon.
***
When Squad gets back, Severideâs mildly surprised that Truck and Engine (minus Herrmann) are in the common room without Casey, but Kidd huffs and Otis looks put out, so itâs pretty obvious that they said something stupid. Probably as stupid at Cruzâs question about how they knew which one of them would take it up the ass at their engagement party (which got him covered in ice water by Gallo and Ritter â and made the rest of them laugh).
He'd go to Caseyâs office, but now that theyâre together, he mightâve gone to hide in Severideâs office just to confuse them.Â
So, he goes there instead.Â
âYou know theyâre idiots, right?â he hears Herrmannâs question from the doorway of Severideâs office.
âYou sound like Sev when Kidd and Otis claimed I spent too much time with Severide. If only they knew the fun that we were having ââ
âI donât wanna know and itâs got nothing to do with gay sex or whatever â I didnât wanna know when it was Dawson or Hallie either â I just â youâre like ââ
âI know, Herrmann,â Casey assures him.
Casey had initially misunderstood Herrmannâs lack of reaction for lack of support for months until he took over Engine and Ritter came on board and the whole theyâre married joke and Caseyâs denial of that statement (to laughter) had caused him to question if his new house would be as accepting as he thought. Caseyâs telling off of Herrmann (and Mouch), separately, had Casey admitting to his assumption and Herrmann explaining that he hadnât meant to seem unsupportive just that he had no desire to know about anyoneâs sex life, but especially Casey because heâs watched him grow up from an sort-of innocent candidate to a badass Captain and he feels a little like one of his kids.
âSo, Tweedle-Dee and Tweedle-Dum said something stupid, then?â Severide says as he moves passed Herrmann to his desk chair. Caseyâs on the bed in his sweatshirt.Â
âWell, Tweedle-Dum did,â Casey replies, getting a confused look from Herrmann.Â
âOtis is Tweedle-Dum? So, does that mean Cruz is Tweedle-Dee?â
Herrmann leaves with a nod before Severide closes the door and Casey shifts to the end of the bed, reaching for his hand.Â
Severide takes it smiling, despite asking, âSo what dumb thing did they ask this time?â
âIf it annoyed me that you liked to touch me all the time,â Casey offers, no hesitation. âIt wasnât so much the question as the tone or the fact that they would never ask that if it was a woman that likes to touch me. I guess they think itâs clingy or something. Personally, I donât care. I like you touching me, kissing me, having your way with me⊠I just⊠I like feeling connected with you.â
Severide hums, a pleasant feeling floods him. He loves the assurance that Casey enjoys his random affection as much as Severide enjoys giving it to him.
He lifts Caseyâs hand to his lips and kisses it.Â
âIâm glad that weâre on the same page.â
âAlways.â
***
As if heâs trying to prove a point, Severide canât help noticing that Caseyâs a lot more affectionate on watch (heâs always overly affectionate at home, but after years of hiding at the firehouse and the weird questions theyâve been getting, heâs held off on most of his affections, though he hasnât had any issues with Severideâs affections).Â
Heâll do things like run a hand through Severideâs hair as he passes by him. Sometimes, heâll press a kiss to the top of his head. Heâs re-introduced their little want a kiss, get a kiss game, which to Severideâs dismay is not always a kiss on the lips. Sometimes, but he also gives him kisses on the top of his head, his cheek, his shoulder, and his hand.Â
Heâll randomly hug him, run a hand down his face, place a hand on his back or on his shoulder, and sometimes, if he can get away with it, smack his ass.
Severide, honestly, loves it.
Especially because being freer with his affections is making Casey happier.Â
Heâs smiling even now as he runs drills with Truck despite the reason why heâs randomly running drills.
Severide had bristled at the tone, and Casey, rather than counter or explain, stood up and said, âI think itâs time for drills.â
Mouch had complained because it wasnât fair to punish him and Gallo, but it was futile, especially since they hadnât had many calls today.
After an hour or so, Severide had moved to his spot at the Squad table to continue to watch his man in action, especially since heâs wearing Severideâs sweatshirt.Â
âIt shouldâve been so obvious,â he hears, distracting him from watching Casey.Â
Heâs surprised to see its Boden. Things have been odd with the Chief since they told him about the engagement.
âYeah, it probably was,â Severide offers, twirling his engagement ring, nervously. Although Boden had apologized for thinking their engagement was a prank, itâs still a bit awkward. Bodenâs opinion meant a lot to both of them and the moment of excitement had been ruined by his utter shock. âIf everyone was actually open to the idea instead of treating it like a joke, they probably wouldâve noticed, too.â
Boden hums as he sits with his back to the wall with an easy view of Truck running drills.
âThatâs what Donna said,â Boden offers. âShe also said that she couldnât understand my surprise because itâs been obvious for a long time.â
Severide shrugs. âIt makes sense. We got together halfway through the prank and when I was surprised that no one had said anything about the sweatshirt, Casey pointed out that a lot of firefighters â especially firefighters that are in Bennyâs generation â would have had a serious problem with anyone questioning their sexuality. And to be honest, the house is lucky that their questioning us worked out for the best.â
Boden looks confused.Â
âSomething, something, if we didnât feel the way we do or we werenât comfortable with who we are, it couldâve screwed with our friendship, it couldâve fucked up what we had with the boys and that is the problem here â with the people who ask stupid questions or make comments because they donât understand it. And it couldâve negatively affected not just me and Casey, but our boys,â Severide states.
He's thought about that a lot over the years. At first, he didnât understand Caseyâs worries, but as more people learned about them and showed their support, and the more the firehouse joked about the possibility as if it was so damn impossible or laughable (not to mention the conversations with their sisters about the firehouse being the reason for the secret), the more he realized the reality.
âNegative affects?â
Severide gives him a look.Â
âI think about Ritter apologizing over his excitement about getting to work at a house with a Captain and Lieutenant who are out on the job after his first house was far more homophobic than he was willing to call out and ârealizingâ that it was just a joke. I think about Henderson coming to Casey because he assumed we were together because of the jokes and wanting advice on how to come out without having to deal with jokes or attitude about it. I think about Stevenson coming to Casey to get help for Henderson when Welch and Smith were homophobic assholes after he came out ââ
âI didnât even know ââ
âAnd why do you think that is, Chief?â Severide questions. âCasey and I can handle the jokes and whatnot because weâve both heard worse and we honestly donât care, weâre happy and it doesnât really matter if anyone can understand that. And until the conversations with Ritter and Henderson, I really donât think either of us realized the impact of those jokes or comments on other people⊠Ritter was already out, but he was still hurt at the implication at whoever he loves is a joke, and Henderson didnât want to come out and be a joke instead of taken seriouslyâŠâ
âAnd allowing those jokes and comments and not being open myself to the ideaâŠâ Boden trails off. He seems to get it.
âAnd itâs not really your fault, Chief,â Severide offers. âCasey and I both struggled with accepting this part of ourselves because of the way we grew up, I can imagine that affected you, too.â
âIt doesnât make it okay,â Boden says. âAnd Iâve said it before, but I am sorry for thinking it was a prank when you told me about your engagement.â
Severide nods, accepting it. He and Casey had accepted it the first time, but he can tell this apology is a little more understanding on why they took that response so hard.
âTo be fair, you also thought it was a joke when I came back from Vegas married,â he offers with a grin.
He feels Caseyâs arms slide around his neck from the back, and a kiss to the top of his head. âTo be fair, anytime someone disappears for two days to Vegas and returns with a wife they met there would probably be taken as some sort of prank.â
âYou didnât think it was prank,â Severide counters.
âYeah, because I knew you better than that even before we started raising the boys together,â Casey offers, sitting on the side with his back to the trucks. âI was more just happy that you actually came back â with a wife is better than in a body bag.â
Severide gives him annoyed look, even though he can barely remember the time between coming back to 51 after his furlough and meeting Brittney in Vegas. He does remember shift days, but he spent the time between shifts blackout drunk. Heâs lucky he survived long enough to make it to Vegas.
Annoyed though he is, he softens when Casey takes his hand and begins to play with his ring. He knows that Casey just wanted him to be happy even if it wasnât with him.Â
And now he couldnât imagine being any happier than he already is.
He could almost forget the Chief is sitting right across from them, or where they are intentionally, too focused on Caseyâs affections and the way heâs smiling at him.Â
Until he coughs, jarring their attention to him.
âAnyway, Donna and I would like to invite you out to dinner celebrate,â Boden offers, the offer looking genuine.
âHerrmann already threw us an engagement party,â Casey says, tentatively.Â
âYeah, this would be more of a private celebration,â Boden explains. âI really am happy for you both.â
He can see Casey nod, so Severide says, âWeâd like that.â
âGood.â
***
Caseyâs sitting in his office more than a bit surprised as he looks at Otis and Cruz, who have both apologized for asking inappropriate or disrespectful questions about his relationship with Severide. Apparently, Mouch and Herrmann, and later, Boden had taken them aside and told them to knock it off.
Heâs sure that they wonât, not entirely, sometimes theyâre just going to make dumb statements, but at least theyâre going to try. He also knows that some of their dumb questions are genuinely trying to wrap their minds around everything that they just donât understand.Â
Doesnât mean he should have to deal with it.
He knows that they talked to Kidd, too, but Caseyâs sure her comments have more to do with Dawson and the fact that there are rumors about her potential return to Chicago now that her son is due to start school, again, and Kidd is Dawsonâs best friend and Dawson was still interested in him the last he heard when she visited almost a year ago.
Sheâs probing for the sake of her friend, but he, personally, doesnât care.Â
âLook, I get that itâs ⊠different, but Iâve never been one to fuel the rumor mill about my private matters. Literally, I told everyone my first day at 51 that if they talked about my family, theyâd get a punch to the face.âÂ
He hears a laugh and sees Severide leaning in the doorway with a smile on his face.
He rolls his eyes and continues. âI never talked about Hallie or things at home with her and fuck, I hated when everyone knew what was going on with Dawson. My relationship with Sev is none of your business â you wanna learn about the differences with regards to relationships between two men instead of a man and a woman go on the internet, read a book, find a documentary, I donât care. But donât come to me asking, especially when itâs not actually curiosity but just a way to pick at and annoy us. Got it?â
âYes, sir.â
âAnd for my sanity, donât go questioning Ritter, either,â he adds when they stand up. âHe doesnât deserve to have to be your queer guide either.â
They both nod and leave, not even meeting his or Severideâs eyes.Â
âThink that they got the message?â Severide questions.
âI hope so,â Casey says, getting up from his desk to pull Severide close, his arms around his neck, and leaning his forehead against Severideâs. âDonât think I wonât snap the next time they ask about whether or not I had to practice on banana to deep throat you.â
âOr when they asked how we could walk after sex because doesnât that hurt â not unless you want it to.â
âOr when they asked if my dick was just so magical that you turned you away from all the pretty women in the world and turned you gay â ignoring, of course, that bisexuality exists,â Casey teases.
âTo be fair, your dick is pretty magical,â Severide jokes.Â
They both laugh and get interrupted by, âAnd here I thought Welchâs comments were bad.â
They turn to see Stevenson in the doorway. Â They donât move, except to look at him, since they donât really have to hide their affections.Â
âYeah, theyâve been rather rampant with their comments of late and I think some of it is genuine curiosity, but most of it is just â trying to drive us insane,â Casey offers. âDid you need something? I thought we had Welch in hand.â
âWe did, heâs damn lucky and heâs been on his best behavior â heâs been surprisingly good, it sucks that he had to shift from Hendersonâs team to mine, but I think it was best for Henderson, even if he still has to see him,â Stevenson says. âBut that wasnât why I was hoping to catch you.â
Casey loosens his arms around Severide. âOkay, do you wanna have a seat?â
âActually, I meant Severide,â Steveson says. âBut I suppose it could really be for both of you â some kid from the academy came by last shift looking for you.â
âMe?â Severide questions, as he slips his hand into Caseyâs hand. âWhy?â
âI donât know, he wouldnât say, just that he was looking for you.â He pauses and adds, âWell, technically, he said Benny Severideâs son.â
Severide groans, covering his face with one hand. âDid he look at all like me?â
âMaybe a little?â he offers, shrugging. âHe was twenty-one-year-old kid, wouldnât even tell me his name.â
Casey looks between them a little concerned at Severideâs reaction. âYou donât think that itâs another one of Bennyâs secret kids, do you?â
âProbably,â Severide groans, shaking his head. Then, he looks at Stevenson. âUh, if he stops by again, tell him to leave his name and a message or something.â
Stevenson nods. âSounds good.â
He leaves them alone with a little wave and Casey offers, âLetâs go home and have some fun. Make up for all the bullshit commentary and worry about your dadâs potential new kid later.â
Severide laughs and shakes his head, giving him a kiss and moving to his other side because he likes holding Caseyâs left hand more than his right. âSounds like the perfect plan.â
âGood.â
And with that, they can leave holding hands, no longer worried about being seen and donât have to wait until they get in the car to hold each otherâs hands and itâs, honestly, the best feeling in the world.
