you have to let yourself be a weird woman or you will not survive
“Must have reliable transportation” = “this is how we legally discriminate against poor people who take the bus”
As someone who has held several management positions with hiring responsibility, this is true. The boss at my last job informed me before I conducted my very first I interview,
“You can’t outright ask someone if they have a car or have kids. That’s technically illegal. But you need to know because sometimes they can be deal breakers. You can just say ‘Do you have reliable transportation?’ and ‘Do you have any current circumstances that could impede you from being successful at work?’
To which the last one most people fumble and would say, “Well I have kids, so sometimes they could get sick. But that’s not often.” But then your potential employer could mark it down on your interview notes nonetheless.
I thought that maybe it was just my own employer. But now I noticed that I am asked both of these almost every time I interview for a job.
Language is very sneaky. Be careful how you answer. Corporations can be snakes.
In my businesses class my professor told us that the bus counts as reliable transportation. You do not legally have to say “I take the bus” just say “yes I do have reliable transportation” and leave it at that. Do not over share. DO NOT OVER SHARE. The second question just say no. If your kids are sick call out as if you are sick. I don’t have kids but I myself can get sick and that doesn’t hinder my ability to succeed so kids getting sick shouldn’t hinder you. When I call out I give as little info as possible. No one needs to know why you call out. They can’t ask about your “illness” because it violates HIPAA if they do. So as long as you don’t offer more info than you need to you should be okay.
Hey @staff @support since none of you answer my emails and I've apparently gotten post removed by tumblr because I made a post asking people to go through the proper channels to report genuine incitement of violence on tumblr.
I'd like to ask you why SWATTING is not against tumblr user guidelines. I need you to explain it to me like I'm 5 years old. Why is SWATTING allowed on tumblr. Is it not considered dangerous? Does some illegal activity get a pass on tumblr as long as the victims are Palestinian? Or is it the perpetrator you're protecting?
I'd like to know. Because I've sent 2 emails to Monica from support and I'm still waiting on an answer.
I keep getting canned responses. But we need actual ACTION. If we are wrong, tell us why. Give us a human response explaining this. Address this because it's getting ridiculous the lengths you're going to protect someone who is inciting violence on your site. Someone who is asking people to engage in illegal behavior which can and has put people in real physical danger.
Can I be any clearer?? We've tried to go through the official channels and we've only gotten canned responses. You say you don't want people spamming reports, but what choice do we have when presented with an extremely alarming situation that tumblr refuses to address??
Here are your user guidelines by the way in case you forgot:

the idea that restrooms, locker rooms, etc need to be single-sex spaces in order for women to be safe is patriarchy's way of signalling to men & boys that society doesn't expect them to behave themselves around women. it is directly antifeminist. it would be antifeminist even if trans people did not exist. a feminist society would demand that women should be safe in all spaces even when there are men there.
btw this is maybe the single most key distinguishing feature of the terfy strains of radical feminism, the seed all the rest of it springs out of: they have absolutely no faith in the ability of feminism to actually destroy patriarchy. they do not think feminism can truly build a better world. they cannot really even imagine that possibility. they think patriarchy is an inevitable natural consequence of unchangeable biological facts, and therefore the goal of feminism can only be to mitigate the worst effects of patriarchy, not to get rid of it.
they can imagine a society where women get some designated safe spaces without men around. they cannot imagine a society where the presence of men is not inherently a danger to women.
it’s also the same logic that has people arguing that lesbians shouldn’t be allowed to be in women’s facilities either. bc if straight men can’t be expected to control themselves around women, we can’t be either, right? it’s making attraction or potential attraction to women the problem and not…the actual crime
TERFs also don’t grasp that rape, sexual harassment, etc. are literally crimes and are still crimes even if a person was technically legally allowed to be in the place that they committed the crime. making it criminal for anyone amab to enter a woman’s facility isn’t going to stop the actual predators bc they do not give a shit about the law. they wouldn’t be predators if they did. it’s just going to hurt people, i.e. innocent trans women, who weren’t actually a threat to you and literally just wanted to pee.
