There is joy in just picking the colours that feel good today and doing something, without really knowing what the result will be. Pure joy of painting. :D
If you take asks can you perhaps draw Loki?
Here you go! I hope he looks alright to you :P
I had theĀ biggestĀ crush on him as a teen, so drawing him again was such a joy haha

Woke up from a weird nap and saw this reel and it's making me feel like I need to get up and walk for like an hour

Working on my Inner Growth š This one took way longer than it should š I wanted to try out a new style in Procreate but the brushes didn't want to cooperate so I ended up with my old style, except it looks kinda off. I will have to repaint this on properly in Paint Tool SAI one day.

That's the fucking whoville Christmas band contraption that drove the grinch to madness
look, guys, this may seem ironic coming from a person with Verbose Disease, but I'm about to tell you the secret to winning social media: shutting the fuck up. you have a controversial discourse opinion? shut the fuck up and no one will know. can't participate in a boycott for various reasons? shut the fuck up and no one will know. you think or do something Problematic that has no bearing on anyone but yourself? shut the fuck up and no one will know. you haven't been keeping up on a pressing social issue? shut the fuck up and no one will know. your mind is a wonderful place where you can have all the bad takes in the world and they're all perfectly insulated from everyone and everything unless you try to excise them on a grand scale. you can take the mental L all by yourself without using a public platform as a confession booth and face zero repercussions and it'll be just fine. open up a damn diary and explain yourself there.
happy one year to the post that had an italian telling me that she hated me and everything I stood for so much that it actually made her reevaluate and appreciate mussolini because I was so much worse than him
it was because she wanted to watch eurovision and resented the idea that she could just choose not to liveblog it and no one would get mad at her btw
I think an important part of shutting the fuck up is bringing back private diaries. If you're a guy who's still scared of cooties you can call it "journaling" if you want but I mean people have for way too long been posting publicly stuff they should be writing in a private diary for nobody else to see. Not every single part of your internal monologue needs to be shared with millions of other people. But there is pathos in taking the thoughts trapped in your head and getting them out of you.
And I am telling you, you can get the exact same pathos you get posting your deepest secrets online as you do from writing it down on paper. And when it's on paper you're not at risk of stirring up an Internet Mob. As a matter of fact, nobody will see those words unless you actively share the page with someone or transcribe it, which is a pain, and pictures of diary pages never look good, and nobody gonna read all that shit in your bad handwriting anyways. So you get to work through your own thoughts in a safe and actually healthy way. People need to journal again.
God gives his hardest battles to his strongest soldiers and I'm dodging the draft
hang on I gotta look something up.

how to brain dump like a pro
what you need
a messy notebook (I like the Leuchturm bullet ones)
a pen
a beverage for emotional support (or several <3)
how to get started
grab your notebook, and sit down in a quiet moment with enough time so you won't stress even more. The point of a brain dump is to unload all your thoughts, everything that is stressing you is put to paper. not aesthetically, no cutesy Pinterest vibes; we need it plain, unromanticised, and personal.
some prompts to get you going
do I have any deadlines coming up?
have I been making time for myself and my hobbies?
what projects, tasks, appointments, and/ or plans are currently stressing me out?
am I procrastinating anything?
am I properly looking after myself? (mental/physical health, skincare, hobbies, school/work, etc etc)
am I currently working through any challenges, and if yes how is that going so far?
how are my friends/relationships doing?
is there an area in my life that I should prioritise right now?
do I feel confident and comfortable at the moment?
Review and reflect
take some time and go over your writing; you can underline or highlight the points that you find most important. make this whole "brain dump" thing a routine; sometimes it takes a bit of writing until you actually get comfortable with putting your emotions onto paper (it sounds easier than it is..), but the more often you do this, the more comfortable you will get!! <3
As always, please feel free to share your own suggestions and tips in the comments! <3

maybe i like my tech a little bit inconvenient
maybe i like pulling out my debit card instead of using apple pay. maybe i like untangling my wired headphones. maybe i like typing something into the search bar instead of using siri or whatever. maybe i like curating my own social media feeds over an algorithm. i just donāt think everything has to be perfectly streamlined and efficient i like it when things feel tethered to the real world.
By the way, you can improve your executive function. You can literally build it like a muscle.
Yes, even if you're neurodivergent. I don't have ADHD, but it is allegedly a thing with ADHD as well. And I am autistic, and after a bunch of nerve damage (severe enough that I was basically housebound for 6 months), I had to completely rebuild my ability to get my brain to Do Things from what felt like nearly scratch.
This is specifically from ADDitude magazine, so written specifically for ADHD (and while focused in large part on kids, also definitely includes adults and adult activities):
Executive functioning skills range from working memory to cognitive flexibility to inhibitory control, and beyond. They power our daily func
Here's a link on this for autism (though as an editor wow did that title need an editor lol):
Practical Strategies for Enhancing Executive Functioning Difficulties in Adults With Autism - Living with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) as
Resources on this aren't great because they're mainly aimed at neurotypical therapists or parents of neurdivergent children. There's worksheets you can do that help a lot too or thought work you can do to sort of build the neuro-infrastructure for tasks.
But a lot of the stuff is just like. fun. Pulling from both the first article and my own experience:
Play games or video games where you have to make a lot of decisions. Literally go make a ton of picrews or do online dress-up dolls if you like. It helped me.
Art, especially forms of art that require patience, planning ahead, or in contrast improvisation
Listening to longform storytelling without visuals, e.g. just listening regularly to audiobooks or narrative podcasts, etc.
Meditation
Martial arts
Sports in general
Board games like chess or Catan (I actually found a big list of what board games are good for building what executive functioning skills here)
Woodworking
Cooking
If you're bad at time management play games or video games with a bunch of timers
Things can be easier. You might always have a disability around this (I certainly always will), but it can be easier. You do not have to be this stuck forever.
fuuuuck i just realized that the future idealized version of myself cant exist without current me being the catalyst for change and doing hard things. has anybody heard about this
I just sent this to my husband and his response was āyou canāt put a price on thatā uh, yeah you can, they just did. š
Judy Brady Syfers wrote āI Want a Wifeā in 1971. It holds up.
My mother used to mutter āI want a WIFEā angrily from time to time.
Later, after my parents split up and my momās bffās spouse died, momās bff moved in. Mom would come home from work and the house would be clean! Dinner would be ready! Laundry done! Homework checked!
She called me up, delighted, a few weeks into it. āI was right! I DID want a wife!ā
i remember the blissful 14 months when me and my friend shared a nanny, and coming back into the living room to find she had spontaneously tidied up the extreme chaos. That must be what itās like, being a man, that you can just walk away from some mess to get ready for work, and when you come back somebody else has dealt with it without any physical or mental effort from you.Ā
I think about this essay all the time
