Excuse me, but some of us got into witchcraft because we wanted to set shit on fire.
wanting to kiss someone is just. like. what do you mean i am experiencing something akin to hunger? what do you mean i can feel this as an actual tactile ache? it is not "i want" like "i want a bike," it is "i want" like i am found wanting. you can want it so much you can force your own pupils to dilate. i'm seasick about it. this is a thing we evolved. this is something that we can physically crave.
less of a poem, more of a reminder. ( ꨄ )
mabon 🍂
mabon is the pagan celebration of the autumn equinox, or the beginning of autumn. it typically falls between september 21st and 23rd in the northern hemisphere.
it marks the transition into the darker time of the year, when days are shorter and nights are longer. it’s a time for gratitude and to start preparing for the winter by letting go of that which no longer serves us.
ways to celebrate 🍂
mabon is a great time for protection, prosperity, and cleansing. especially related to the home.
do a gratitude ritual
get rid of what no longer serves you, whether physically or more symbolically
hold a mabon dinner with foods of the season.
celebrate persephone and her descent into the underworld
visit a farm or vineyard
make an autumn vision board or playlist (my personal favorite)
redecorate your altar or space in general
forage for herbs, plants, etc.
meditate & reflect on yourself
tend to your garden or plants
spend time outside, observe the seasons changing

What really ticks me off when talking about ai is when people are like "it's unavoidable" or "you'll have to learn to use it someday" or "its going to be part of the future" like no it's plenty avoidable actually if you have a spine stronger than a dandelion. You simply say "no" and continue to use your own goddamn brain.
"you can use ai to improve spelling and grammar"
if you’re wondering why spellcheck and grammar check is worse now, it’s because they replaced it with AI! 🥰
now, instead of maintaining a comprehensive, nuanced, and human-maintained encyclopedia by which to check your document, they have switched to an AI that just compares what you’ve written to what other people write in, say, Google Docs, and use the most commonly used iteration.
ever have it change something like “all intents and purposes” to “all intensive purposes” or “should’ve” to “should of”? that’s why!
people make the same spelling and grammar mistakes so often, AI thinks that’s the way you say it because it is a PATTERN DETECTOR and cannot THINK let alone use language.

i. everyone keeps saying it's the hottest summer on record. you have your back pressed flat against the floor and a sweat drip in the crook of your elbow.
ii. generalized anxiety is seen as a disorder during the "ordinary" way of things. if someone were to ask you what specifically is bothering you, the answer is formless and senseless. you have a constant, physical sense of doom. it feels like a hand gripping your ribs. it feels like drowning, always, just-a-little bit. when you complain about it, your mother says - oh, you've been this way since you were a kid.
iii. but nothing is normal right now. what particular thing should you even focus on? your mind is in a terrible aperture, zooming in and out of the small and the large things. in some moments you can't breathe because of your rent bill and a breakup and your dog getting lyme disease. and then an hour later - you are overwhelmed by the shakiness of the whole world, by every person suffering, by the enormity of what is happening.
iv. you googled it. today's high was 94 degrees Fahrenheit (34.4C). it is ten degrees above average. a man on television laughs: but what if i want all of california to be under the sea?
v. how do you do therapy at the end of the world? your video-meet therapist is lovely and sweet and blonde and trying. sometimes you just say, "so... it's kind of just the everything that's happening." and then the two of you sit and stare at each other. more than once she's sighed and said, yeah. it's terrifying.
vi. things move so quickly now. you think about how your local school took six years to approve a new playground. now each day there is a development that makes your heart drop. sure, you can't afford rent this month, but - with everything happening, are you really doing enough?
vii. sometimes it feels like you cannot calculate priority - your body just reacts to each piece of information as an equivalent firecracker. money is tight, you need to get on food stamps, your car needs an inspection. and today another person got abducted. and there aren't any pollinators. and the bill passed the senate. when you try to shove it all into yourself - none of it fucking fits.
viii. you have seen almost no butterflies or bees or dragonflies this year. you go home and try not to overuse your AC. you are watching a debate about AI and water usage. the thousands of gallons wasted just so people can be fed misinformation. the man on television snorts. cry about it.
ix. you are constantly restless, sleepless, pacing. every one problem spirals into another, until they press into your temple and feed from your collarbones. you are trying so fucking hard to balance everything. and still! despite your efforts! it all just happens.
x. you aren't even in the "hot" part of summer yet, and it is ten degrees above average.
@nosebleedclub prompt: sweltering heat
everyone says you can always restart. that your future isn't forgotten, just sort of misplaced. they name actors and singers and authors who started at 46, 59. they cite chappell roan's 10 years. they tell you to push and push, that some day you'll open a door and the truth will be behind it.
but what if you aren't a celebrity in sheep's clothing. what if you're just a normal person. most people aren't exceptionally talented or else talent wouldn't be exceptional - right? what if you're just another median person; not ever startlingly bad nor terrifyingly good.
you put the shopping carts back and you walk your dog and you write poems on the internet. you have grown a plant or two; killed a few others. you did okay, overall, and you've been okay most of your life. not valedictorian, but you were a smart kid. you had some hard knocks, but you got up again. your life is just - average. you probably will never sing onstage at coachella. most of the time you are at peace with that - someone needs to drive the speed limit. life isn't about extraordinary circumstances, it's just about building a life you love and figuring out how to live in it.
but you would like to feel as if you'd found "the answer." everyone else seems to have some kind of talent they are born nesting in - and meanwhile you just exist. is that why you cycle through crafts and hobbies and activities like a roulette wheel? are you waiting for the moment where it turns out - all this time, you've been a visionary. a genius. all this time, you were special. even you: someone who has-never-been.
crawling up your throat: something bitter and savage. not quite a feeling of wasted potential. after all, you need to first have potential in order to waste it.
The piano room
My favorite simple wards to guard the home
Hanging rosemary above the doorstep, and/or above doors of the house for protection.
Sprinkling a line of dried red pepper on a windowsill, to counter a curse.
Placing a mix of dried & ground eggshells and black pepper in every corner of a room to keep out unwanted spirits.
Placing a decoration representing a witch in the kitchen, to keep away illness and to favor health.
Crafting an effigie (no matter how crude!) and make it into the guardian of your home by charging it with your intent of protection and placing it near the front door.
Crafting small witch ladders to hang around the house.
hyperfixation please stay with me long enough to complete the project. hyperfixation do not fade. hyperfixation finish what you started for the love of god
maidens if you are going to flee dramatically from my castle in the middle of the night once i reveal my true nature to you please leave your candelabra on the little ledge by the portcullis we are running out of them
starting to think these maidens are stumbling in soaked through from the rain just to steal my beautiful gowns and homewear are any of you actually lost
At the checkout in Home Goods loading the belt with nothing but candelabras in all shapes & sizes while the cashier watches sympathetically and asks if it’s the maidens again
I can't bear for us to part. I miss you deeply like how the shore misses the ocean. So I hope one day you crash into me like a tsunami.
