s5 was sydney's season. her growth. her story. her restaurant. it really culminated with her.

the part that resonated with me most was her joy. we see her happiness and her smile in so many places. i was so fearful we wouldn't get true, genuine sydney smiles because of all the stress she was going to be under. but not only did we get meaningful, intimate moments, we got this scene

syd seeing how much her meals mean to people. sharing a warm memory about her mother. witnessing the entire front of house eating her meal, the one she was afraid to share which ended up being the best ( and she doesn't even know that carmy went back for seconds !! ). ayo was so phenomenal this season, as always, but her ability to emote really took my breath away. the emotion here, despite there being very little spoken, was so powerful to me. also ebon tearing up watching her???? me as hell

maybe syd has a panic attack in front of everyone/carmy and this is when he finally wakes up and realizes she’s been shoving all of these feelings deep down and it’s creating such a deeply traumatizing environment and he can relate and he doesn’t want to be that for her. he values her so much and loves her and wants her to succeed but he sees that leaving does just as much damage as staying and being a shitty friend and partner. especially after richie’s accident. maybe he talks some sense into him (need more richie and carmy soft moments plz and thank you) now that they’ve (richie and syd) grown closer. i just really want richie to clock it and maybe pull off the blinders carm has been wearing and he and syd can finally finish the conversation they’ve been itching to have for the last 2-3 seasons

Carmy never even asked Claire out at any point and actually tried to run his situationship by Syd and then acted like he swallowed a fly when Richie told him to visit Claire’s table during Friends & Family and crashed out when he couldn’t be with Syd and after all that mess worked up the courage to ask Syd to the Ever dinner and publicly introduced her to everyone and crashed out some more and still managed to tell her “I like this” when they’re alone and that she’s the good that came into his life and that she’s The Bear but okay you have convinced me it’s totally platonic.
