Traveling was hard enough alone, but picture being in charge of twenty six and seven year-olds and having to usher them all into a small bus to go to a park. Olivia loved her first grade class- and was thankful she had some volunteer parents to help her watch all of the young ones- but when Brian came up to her before they boarded the bus crying about leaving his ball and demanded to go get it, she felt this was a bad idea. She had somehow gotten approval to bring her class to the local park to have a free day by the principal and all her students were far too excited.
She had done research that staying in a classroom eight hours a day, five days a week wasn’t healthy for young kids- and wrote a twelve page paper emailed and delivered to the principal on his desk. He was surprised that Olivia, a new teacher of only a few months, was so adamant on this silly project that he simply agreed not caring as long as she did everything herself.
Now they were all getting ready to board the bus. Parents lined up helping kids on the bus, Olivia held the back making sure every last one was on. After she made sure everyone was seated and buckled, she went over the rules of the bus and they took off. She sat next to a little girl named Victoria who was bouncing in her seat holding her phone. “Ms. Dalton, which park are we going to?” She asked her voice holding too much excitement. Olivia smiled at the younger girl, telling her the park. Victoria squeaked excitedly looking down at her phone again bouncing a bit. Olivia raised a brow shaking her head before looking out the window. She didn’t get why parents gave their children phones, especially so young. She knew technology was important but at the same time, these were six and seven year olds.
Once the bus stopped she stood up going over the buddy system and told them to not wander from the view of her or the parents. The children cheered and exited the bus running to the playground, swings, or the courts.
Olivia looked around at her class a smile finding its way onto her lips. The little ones were running around yelling and playing, some parents chasing the kids a bit too close. One of the kids, came up to her and tugged on her hand bringing her towards the swings. “Push me push me!” Cristy giggled up to her teacher. Olivia laughed and obliged as she helped the little one in the swing then began to push her.
Hazel, Olivia’s daughter used this time to run off towards another part of the park. The park had many fields, but she had seen a group of men on their way in, and knew instantly it was her favorite youtubers. She had Cristy distract her mom, and her friends distracting the other parents so she could run off. After running for five minutes, she came to a field where a group of people where. A kickball field, where a blue haired boy was running around with a camera filming.
Hazel’s heart leapt and she ran towards the boy giggling until she tripped falling in front of Markiplier. She was small. The smallest in her class. Though she was the oldest at seven- and eight months!- she looked as though she was a five year old due to her height. She looked up her eyes shining, one brown one blue. Her mommy said it was ‘hetrocromia’ but that was too big of a word for her to know.
Olivia finished pushing the little girl on the swing, and began her head count to make sure everyone was still there or in sight. After counting three times she learned she was a head short. “18.. 19.. 20.” She muttered counting again stopping at 20 once more. Who was missing?
