so far, it's all about ben finding his way in a galaxy he doesn't recognize, one that's been harrowed by destruction and suffering on a level he couldn't have ever grasped until faced with its consequences. also din being a MASSIVE softie. feat. excellent ba'buire rex and wolffe, gleeful aunt fennec, and tired ori'vod/uncle boba.

requires little to no info on the mandalorian/book of boba fett/rebels to read and enjoy (coming from someone who's watched scattered episodes of rebels, half of one episode of the mandalorian, and none of bobf)

sorry, this meant to be a tiny aside---a small break from consuming fanfic---but i couldn't mention the end note without mentioning the fic (both to share it cs it's great and as a favor to future me if i ever check on this post again), and i couldn't mention the fic without describing it a little (so you'd have an idea on if it's something you'd like to read or not... and also as a favor to future me on what the fic is roughly about before i reread it), so uh. oops.

one fic, where "anakin" is 107 words out of 500,000+ (he's only in the first chapter, then occasionally haunts the narrative afterwards; he's literally not even born yet by the end of the fic) is no longer listed

the TOP fic (sorted by hits) sounds as if it will be entirely from anakin's perspective, based on the summary.

i just finished reading just under 490,000 words over like 5 days.

10/10 fanfic, i ADORE it; if i found this fic BEFORE i finished my ifw posts (i did not forget about the hms or masterlist. i have the hms in a collection via bookmarks and the masterlist drafted. i just don't have power or a stable internet connection to be working on them rn), this definitely would have gone on it.

REGARDLESS. this is such an amazing sw fic.

completed at 142 chapters, codywan, mando obi, BATTLEMASTER OBI, AHSOKA AS OBI'S PADAWAN, MANDO AHSOKA, fix-it, slow burn, excellent pacing, VERY minor grammar errors (although i suspect some of it may be because i'm used to american english grammar, not uk english grammar), accurate enough characterization given it goes SUUUUPERRRR AU, jedi culture appreciated (searching this tag specifically is actually what let me find it. top of the list when sorting by hits)

uh, if you're a fan of jinn and/or skywalker tho, this may not be the fic for you. not bashing! critical, at most. mostly critical of jinn because he's the adult, but this isn't the ani you see in tcw or other sw fics. just a kid going through a tough time and lashing out cs of it. skywalker gets his happy ending off screen tho. presumably.

just read a fanfic where a reincarnated gen z/millenial got transported to the star wars universe, and she introduced social media (galaxyvine) and various memes/shit posts. first one being yeet (primarily used when the jedi kids launched themselves off pillars to catch themselves with the force or smthn). second one being the mushroom post.

reading back on little excerpts i wrote (this one inspired by a tiktok where someone had two kids on a couch, one got knocked over, L O V E sung by michael bublé playing in the background) and

she watches the new [short-form video], this one with a couple of kids on a couch (did someone just knock that poor baby over?!), and snorts

(couple other interactions that aren't relevant to this post)

it's only on this third playthrough that satoru notices the baby's legs going straight up after they're knocked over, forming the 'V' in 'LOVE'. he notes the older baby sitting peacefully in the place of the 'L'. this must be one of those mythical older sibling privileges that literally nobody around him has expanded on.

THE IDEA OF SATORU (gojo; this was a fanfic idea) NOT UNDERSTANDING SIBLING DYNAMICS AND TRYING TO DEDUCE THEM LOGICALLY IS OBJECTIVELY HILARIOUS

he'd see an older sibling get player 1 rights and go "is this older sibling privilege? why does being player 1 matter?? is the game rigged so that only player 1 can win, aside from the occasional fluke that lets player 2 win so they can't claim that player 1 is cheating?"

AND HE'D JUST SIT THERE, ARMS CROSSED, EYES NARROWED, THINKING IT THROUGH EVERY ANGLE, AND SUGURU IS JUST LIKE "it's literally just because they're older. they were born first, so they get first player."

this is even funnier to me in this specific au, because i hc that EVERYONE has a sibling. nanami has an older sister (inspired by zenith of stars), shoko ALSO has an older sister, suguru is a middle child with an older brother and younger sister (inspired by lost in paradise), haibara canonically has a younger sister, one of my ocs has two younger sisters, the other oc has an older half-brother---

i'm pretty sure i've heard "pucker up, bantha-fucker" in my dreams.

i LOVE this fic, and it's a fairly quick read (29.9k), so you bet i'm re-reading this relatively often.

Reborn just in time to join the rest of the younglings in asking Master Skywalker what they were going to do because there were too many of them. Oh well, she had future knowledge, a tendency to be overlooked and forgotten about by the Creche Master, and the reckless abandonment of someone who knows when they die. AKA Maria, a fan from our world, wakes up in GFFA and decides that she isn't here for a long time, but a good time. She's not here for the whole cult thing of the Jedi, but she will annoy the Sith whenever she can. Though if the Coruscant Guard could be a bit less good at spotting the unaccompanied Jedi child wandering the Senate, that would be appreciated.

okay, so first of all, obviously happy ending; fox becomes a buir, anakin gets palpatine out of his head, also palpatine is dead, and no order 66!

genuinely, I love maria; imagine a 10 year old cheerfully committing treason, traipsing along the lower levels, talking to the force like 2016 besties, and not-so-accidentally leaking senator secrets (aforementioned treason) and getting them arrested for tax fraud of all things.

also in this fic: zombies, madame nu finds the bible, worldbuilding, some emotions (as a treat), the force can actively put kids in time out?, cookies, maria tries to bite through a metal arm, and an adoption!

definitely a turn-my-brain-off-and-cruise kinda fic, and i am HERE for it!

this is a church that supposedly had holy ground or something that let people rot really fast, Idk what that’s about, but people really wanted to get buried there, and so they had overflow of dead people. so they exhumed old bodies and stored the bones in the church, before someone eventually said ‘hey, this would make a cool fucking chandelier.’ and then they started using the bones to decorate. this continued for several generations.

what happened was, some dude from that town (it’s in the Czech Republic) went to the Holy Land in 1278 and brought back some dirt. he spread it in the churchyard, and then EVERYONE wanted to be buried there. because Super Extra Holy(TM). eventually they ran out of room, so they started exhuming old bodies and storing the bones aboveground instead. that’s what an ossuary is, so you have a Fun Vocab Word for the day

in 1870, the church leaders were like “these bones are kind of disorganized and just collecting dust. can anyone stack them better?”

and one František Rint, woodcarver and apparent prior incarnation of Guillermo del Toro, said, “MY TIME HAS COME”

and he. did that.

the church leaders must have been okay with it, because I imagine he ran the plans by them and also they didn’t immediately burn the place to the ground. but I still like to picture them looking over the initial sketches with Rint watching, and roughly these expressions on their respective faces:
