When the response to the bad thing is just as bad as said bad thing.
I hate everyone here.
First...
Haixia Liu was inspired by Van Gogh. He thought the original was so beautiful that he wanted to create his own interpretation.
It's not better, it is different. A true homage.
Second...
Realism?
Perhaps there are some art majors who can corroborate, but I think this falls under impressionist.
I suppose it is more realistic than Van Gogh. But I don't look at Liu's painting and think "It's like looking through a window."
Preferring a more realisitic version of art is not a bad thing. The problematic aspect is conclusively declaring one thing is better than the other due to personal subjective preference. You can acknowledge you like something better without invalidating other art.
But also, preferring realism is not some blight on the entire concept of art. Realistic artists are very skilled and can create beautiful and emotionally moving work.
Like, what is the bar here? At what level of realism does art die?
Fun Fact: Art was officially killed in 1894 by Cassius Marcellus Coolidge.
Worth it.
from this article, which is well worth the read, if only for the fun of seeing zuck get dunked on
It's goo time, Ted Cruz.
Who would ever think this was a good idea?

for those of you unaware, the abridged version of the story is that Terry Fox was a cancer survivor who went on a run across Canada to raise money for cancer research. A cancer survivor. You know, a person with a potentially weakened immune system. He went through chemotherapy so it's very likely, almost sure, that he had a compromised immune system at one point during his treatment. And people adorned him with gear demanding people like him die for the sake of convenience.
PLEASE don’t leave out the fact that his leg had to be amputated to save his life from the cancer, so he did the run with a prosthetic leg. In the end, the cancer still killed him before he could run across the entire country. Terry Fox is a Canadian hero, and using his image to protest COVID-19 mandates is pure evil.
