A break from Chuck Jones. Layout drawings, some with matching production cels from the 1978 “Watership Down”. Produced by Martin Rosen (”Women in Love”) and initially to be directed by Oscar-winning animation creators, John and Faith Hubley. Alas, “creative differences” got in the way, the Hubley’s departed and Martin Rosen took the reins as director. 

Based on the best-selling novel, “Watership Down” by Richard Adams, published in 1972. The story revolves around a warren of rabbits looking for a new home and the dangers they encounter in that quest. Known for its graphic violence and its realistic (to a point, the rabbits did speak, after all) imagination of the daily life of rabbits, the movie didn’t fare as well as the novel. Great for adults, not so for small children.
