Send me “Childish” for one thing my muse was afraid of as a child, even if it was silly.
galacticdemon:
The curse didn’t have time to leave Ryoko’s mouth before she teleported out of the way again, girl still securely under her arm. This time, the duo reappeared behind the beast and along with a string of colorful adjectives and insults, the devil caller hurled a blast of angry red energy at it’s back. Surveying over the trees, Ryoko could see the top of the gate and the vast wall that circled the mountain.
❝ Hold on, ❞ she warned as she surged forward through the air towards it. She had a feeling that if they managed to get on the other side the guard dog would leave them be. Maybe.
It didn’t took long until Canary had finally regained full, consciousness after being carried around in mid-air like that. Once she finally got back the awareness of her surrounds could she see Mike turning its body, and chasing them once again. The lady had a quite interesting Nen technique, so much in fact that Canary could barely sense it being used. But that wouldn’t be enough to escape from the hellhound, the creature was more of a killing machine than a dog, never tired, never disorientated, always going towards its target. Unless they reached the other side of the Gate, any attempt to escape was futile.
And thus, Mike kept chasing them with an inhuman speed, almost catching up to them. If Canary didn’t do anything, both her and Ryoko would die right there, she had to do something.
So, in an almost instinctive act due to a desperate situation, Canary frees herself from Ryoko’s grasp and starts to fall straight towards Mike, her cane in hand pulsating with Nen energy.
“...I’m sorry Mike...”As she was just inches close to the creatures Maw, Canary puts all her strength into a single swing aiming straight to Mike’s head. And, in a surpising turn of events, it worked, once the attack connected, Mike’s completely knocked out. The power in the blow was way higher than one could expect from a humble apprentice, almost like she got this power from somewhere else.Regardless, after beating Mike, Canary passes out once again due to fatigue, freefalling straight to the ground.
imwhatthekidscall-ripped:
“I am. I’ve been wondering the same about you.”
It was funny how apparent the difference was between people that had grown up in such an environment compared to others. The ones that left the ‘city’ behind tended to end up in considerably tough lines of work; though it was usually between a thrill or some sense of duty that they ended up there.
His approached was paused for a moment, for once taking the time to figure out the situation. The other seemed to have rigid requirements for what she could do.
“You know, you should really consider an alternative in some fights. You could really get yourself into trouble, if not killed, against someone crafty.”
Another couple steps put him across the lines scratched in the ground. He hold back taking a swing at the smaller figure just yet. He really was interested in seeing what she would do.
“...”
The lady frowned as she heard the other apparently figuring out her trap. He was right, the lady have grown complacent, deciding to filter her Nen into something more defensive than useful in an actual battle. Her technique was useful against foolish thugs who think they have a shot against the Zoldycks. The more crafty opponent could easily outsmart her nen if needed, so she’d have to get a lot more creative with it to stand a chance.
Fortunately the man was headstrong and proud of himself enough to actually cross the lines bestowed upon him, a rather rash decision in her opinion. After all, she’s not aware of what she’s capable of. Regardless, the act made the cane pulsate with Nen energy three times.
“You should follow your own advice, Mr. Uvogin.”
The lady gives a light tap on the man’s chest with the cane, which made him get pushed four feet away from her. It was unknown how much damage the burly man took, but three lines was enough to harm a formidable Nen and kill anyone from above-average from below.
However, such strength did not come without a price, giving her a slight fatigue. Usually the lady tend to use the attack to kill the opponent and be done with it, but she felt like it would be too much. The man promised to leave if to give him a fight, and that’s all she’s going to do.
“Your overconfidence left you with a deadly opening, if I swung at your head, I can assure you wouldn’t be breathing right now.”
The lady utters in a rather matter-of-fact way, preferring not to get too specific at how her nen works, she suspects the man might have already figured out, but if he didn’t, she still had that advantage.
galacticdemon:
Damn, was she okay? It was hard to tell and there wasn’t time to check considering now this beast’s eyes were on her. Waiting. For a moment there was a staring contest, each waiting for a twitch, a slip.
Screw it.
Fsshwt!
Ryoko’s form flickered, disappearing and reappearing by the young escort and splintered tree. Breathing? Barely. Quickly she scooped the girl up, holding her securely with an arm around the waist, and teleported once more. Had it not been for the girl, she would have fought the beast and turned it to ash. When they transitioned back into existence, they were floating high, high above the jungle where ( hopefully ) the attack dog could not reach them.
❝ Kid? Hey, kid, you okay? ❞
The young lady was barely conscious, just feeling the lady grabbing her by the waist. She was...asking how she was, probably? It was honestly kind of hard to hear it, there was a high-pitched noice in her ears once she felt the impact of Mike’s blow. That mutt really knew how to pack a punch, Canary was still disorientated by what just happened.
“...Wa....watc....watch out...”
Canary mumbled, hoping it would reach the woman’s ears. However, in a sudden flash, Mike jumped out straight to the the silved-haired lady, opening his giant maw, ready to bit the lady’s head off.
imwhatthekidscall-ripped:
A small nod gave that he would commit the name to memory. He was starting to connect what it was that was so familiar. Her behavior had sparked the thought, but with the brief exchange of words; she had to have come from the same place. There was almost a mental justification why he was toning down how he usually fought.
He glanced at the lines, putting together that it was most likely some sort of requirement for what she planned. Unsure what to expect exactly, he figured it best to be more on the defensive side for once.
“Careful not to break your stick.”
Though he it was a light tease, he did mean it. The man walked forward, giving one glance down to see where the lines were before returning his gaze straight ahead to her as he crossed the first.
“...”
The lady refused to take a sin gle step, in order for her technique to function effectively, the older man had to come to her. Although it seemed that the man decided for a defensive stance, that wasn’t good. That’s a big flaw in the lady’s technique, it’s incredibly powerful, but it had specific requirements, hell, it was powerful BECAUSE of those. She had to spun some reaction, but ot with taunts, or mockery, those wouldn’t work on him. Perhaps a simple conversation wuld be more than enough.
“...You’re from Meteor City, are you not?”
She inquired rather abruptly, refusing to leave her position, although that was mostly an attempt to try to make him come towards her, there was a small side of her that wished to confirm her suspicions.
“I can tell. You’re far from the regular, dullard thug.”
galacticdemon:
❝ Shit— ❞ That was a big dog. And even though her reaction was more out of surprise than any genuine fear, it was looking straight at Ryoko.
It didn’t look friendly.
The little girl whose name she hadn’t caught was talking about running and making a diversion which was entirely in opposition to who Ryoko was as a person. She was a fighter! Not to mention the fact that this girl was clearly underestimating her!
❝ Hell no, you’re not taking that thing on by yourself! ❞
“We have no time to-”
BLAM!
Before the young lady could even finish her sentence, she’s dealt with a blow so violent it slams her to the nearest tree, not enough to kill her, but enough to immobilize her for a few moments, the whole action was just so fast it would only a few seconds for anyone to process that the attack came from the dog itself. Honestly, the lady got off easy, Canary wasn’t the creature’s target, Ryoko was. So as soon as the young apprentice was out of the way, Mike set his sights straight to the woman, just waiting for her to move to go straight for a attack.
imwhatthekidscall-ripped:
“Yeah, I’ll leave without another word if that’s what you want.”
There was a clear enjoyment in his voice, not having expected her to agree that easily. He had no intention of killing her; trying to figure if he should use more than a small amount of Nen.
Surprise crossed his face at her asking his name. That was a first. “Oh, its Uvogin.” He spoke without hesitation, pausing then adding, “I don’t recall a last name if I ever had one.”
“And you?”
He was sure there was no other time someone had asked his name after he made the intent to fight them clear. He knew he hadn’t asked someone’s name in that situation either. This girl was interesting to say the least.
“Canary...no second name either.”
The lady wouldn’t bother with names if it were any regular thug, but the man had made quite an impression on her in that short conversation, just enough for her to bother try to remember the other’s name. It was an odd thing but...Meteor City people had a tendency to at less have a small semblance of respect for one another, like...something about the place is like they were all connected somehow. That’s one of the main reasons she was able to determine he’s from Meteor City, aside from the look on his eyes.
“Very well Uvogin, I shall be your opponent.”
After a quick spin of her cane, the lady drew three lines on the ground, followed by getting into a battle stance while clutching the cane with both her hands.
“Cross these lines and you’ll see what I’m capable of.”
imwhatthekidscall-ripped:
“I’ve been warned against picking fights with the Zoldycks, I wouldn’t want to waste their time. It would be a waste to go get myself killed without a reason.” He didn’t intend to go against that statement, nor against his boss’s warning.
There was familiarity at the way the other acted; cold and alert. He wasn’t convinced that it was all that was to her. To be out here on her own, well from what he could tell, with just a staff, she had to know Nen. He was usually against assuming things, but it seemed the most likely scenario.
He was actually quite impressed how expressionless she remained. Only changes in her eyes gave away hints of emotion.
His own emotions, he didn’t care to hide. The girl had caught his interest; he couldn’t leave without at least seeing what she had. A genuine grin crossed his face before speaking.
“Sorry to say, I won’t leave yet. I wanna see what you can do.”
“...Humpf.”
The man’s eyes showed an intent as clear as water. He didnt cared about political power, or fortune, or even about what’s moral, all that he cares is the thrill of fighting. A man who simply urges for a battle, she misjudged him, he’s definitely not like the others who comes to this place.
”If I fight you, will you leave? She inquired, although already presuming the other’s answer, she simply grabs onto her cane and draws a line on the ground. The man wishes for a fight? So be it, as long as he stops being a pest to the Zoldycks. Her cold expression subtly changes into a slight more confrontational one, furrowing her eyebrows, trying to focus on the man.
“I don’t think I got your name.”
imwhatthekidscall-ripped:
A small eye roll followed the other’s first comment, though not much else of a reaction surfaced.
“The Zoldycks? Guess that would explain the front gate, huh.” He muttered, speaking more to himself. He supposed he didn’t have anywhere to be at the time, couldn’t hurt to stick around a bit longer.
He watched the girl, figuring there was much more to her than it first seemed. If this was a home to assassins, they wouldn’t have just anyone be a guard out here. Headstrong as he was, he didn’t feel it was wise to approach just yet. Now that he thought about it, this place didn’t seem that heavily guarded.
“Yes, and they aren’t expecting visitors, so I’d suggest you leave at once. Otherwise I’ll be forced to use strength.”
The lady spoke, once again, inflexible in her stance, simply gazing upon the large man before her with a cold stare, clutching her cane close in case he tries anything. She wasn’t sure of the man’s level with Nen, but his physical strength clearly outmatches her own, even if he doesn’t know how to use Nen techniques, she would still be at an disadvantage physically. If it comes to a fight, the last thing she’d want is to be caught with her guard down.
However, after a second glance, the lady finally noticed something she didn’t at first. His eyes, they weren’t like the others, she could see pain and struggle to survive behind a facade of masculine bravado, that’s a look the young lady knew that look quite well, and she only notices it on people who lived in Meteor City.
This man might be hiding more depth than she initially thought, childish jabs and teasing remarks won’t work on someone as jaded as him.
“What do you say? Will you leave peacefully? I'd rather not cause a stir.”
imwhatthekidscall-ripped:
@loyalcanary liked for a starter
“I didn’t realize a little stick was supposed to intimidate me.” Uvo commented, looking down at the girl.
“Not at all. Only a fool tries to get the upper-hand through intimidation.”
The lady remarked, giving a subtle jab at the man’s own appearance and attitude. Canary had met a lot of trespassers like that man, reckless, arrogant, and eager to fight more than anything else. Although she had to admit, there was one thing different about that one, he clearly had something more than physical strength.
But alas, besides that, the man’s no different from the others, all it takes is some jabs at their ego and they become predictable and easy to counter. Those who are carried away by emotion are the most vulnerable ones. She would know, she used to be like the man before her.
“Now, is there something you wish? The Zoldycks are a very busy family. They have no time for a random trespasser.”

galacticdemon:
❝ Do me a favor since I agreed to leave—don’t call me ‘missus’. It’s Ryoko. ❞ It made her feel so OLD. She did follow a few steps behind, hands on her hips. ❝ Oh that? That was a pretty damn big gate. I went over it. ❞ She said simply and without further explanation.
I mean, it had been impressive and all. Maybe that’s what had made her curious enough to see what was behind it. There was so much to this world she still hadn’t seen, after all.
❝ Why? Does it matter? ❞
“...Stay behind me.”
The young lady promptly stayed between her and the moving leaves on the trees, clutching the scepter near to her chest while a sweat drop slowly rolled down her face. This was bad, really bad, if she actually got through the wall without opening the gate, it means ‘He’ is going to go after her.
Before she could say anything else to the woman, a gigantic creature is revealed before them, with fur as sharp as a knife and beady eyes so empty you’d struggle to see any sort of emotion behind it. It was hard to describe what kind of creature that was, but it probably came closer to a wolf or a dog, and it clearly had their eyes set on the woman behind Canary.
This was bad, really really bad. Canary was quite a skilled fighter, but even she’s not sure she could take on Mike by herself, and even if she could, it was doubtful the Zoldycks would appreciate her harming their prized hound. There was only one way to keep Ryoko alive and that was to make a run for it.
“Listen M- ...Ryoko, I’m going to make a diversion for the hound while you make a run for it, understood? Don’t look back no matter what.”
galacticdemon:
❝ I still don’t know who the hell you’re talking about, ❞ she huffed, crossing her arms in defiance. You take a simple walk, a quick flight around the planet and ya get hassled for it! ❝ Buuuuut, ❞ a sigh. It had taken a couple thousand years, but Ryoko had learned to pick her battles. Some of the time, anyway. And beating up a little girl wasn’t something she wanted to put on her resume.
Then again, this wasn’t any ordinary little girl, was it? She sensed it. It was that same feeling, like when she was with Kurapika—a quiet power, still waters that ran deep.
❝ I guess I can go. ❞ She shrugged, her reluctance exaggerated. Was it really such a big deal? ❝ Lead the way, kid. ❞
“...Very well, follow me.”
The young lady promptly walked past the older woman in the hopes that she would follow her. That was...quite surprising, Canary expected a lot more resistance coming from the woman, especially judging by her somewhat abrasive attitude, Canary had met a lot of reckless, short-tempered people over the years, and they very rarely listened to reason. It was...admitedly, a breath of fresh air to see someone who doesn’t risk their lives foolishly.
However, there was still one thing that still bothered her, how did the lady get in this place? Did she really went through the Testing Gates?
Suddenly Canary heard some rustling sounds near the trees, accompanied by a rather ominous feeling that they’re being watched, but...no, that couldn’t possibly be true, she would know if there were more of her roaming around this place....unless. With a slight concern look upon her usually cold features, Canary turns her head towards the older lady.
“Mrs...a question, which door did you use to get here? The main gate or the smaller one next to it?”
galacticdemon:
❝ The Zol-who’s? I can go anywhere I damn well please, kid. ❞
“That perhaps might be true out there, but this mountain belongs to the Zoldycks. Trespassers are not allowed. Period.”
The lady spoke with a certain bluntness in her otherwise polite tone. Honestly, after what happened with Gotoh and Killua, the last thing Canary needed right now was to allow some random stranger get any closer to the main mansion. This woman might be completely oblivious to what’s happening but if she dares to get any closer, then Canary might be forced to harm her. Hell, the fact that this odd woman were supposedly able to open the Testing Gate without even being aware of the Zoldycks should show her immense strength and foolishness, Canary couldn’t keep her guard down even if she wanted to.
“If you’re lost, I’ll be more than happy to escort you out of the premises, but if you insist on pressing on, I’ll be forced to use more dire methods.”
“I’m not going to warn you again. Turn back and leave this place. The Zoldycks have no time to deal with someone like you.”
Don’t be a fool, don’t fall for that P R E T T Y face She is made of hell and danger

I want so much for Canary to interact with the Phantom Troupe, and they get all ’You’re from the Meteor City, aren’t you? I can tell‘. And then they get into a talk about how their lives lead to different paths while fighting each other.
