These are a bunch of random-ass questions but I want to get to know all my mutuals better so here goes! Here’s my answers, to start:
Signature heart emoji: 💛 but sometimes 🫶
Favorite color combo: blue and gold (which refers to the spectrums of green to ultramarine and yellow to golden brown) (they just scratch my brain right when they’re next to each other)
Go-to snack: sandwiches comprised of turkey, pepper jack cheese, apricot jam and spicy mayo
Childhood comfort show: gotta go with Star Wars: The Clone Wars (I was so hyperfixated on it that I can now recite entire episodes), although I was also really into phineas and ferb and basically anything on pbs kids (odd squad and wildkratts to name a few)
That One Book Series™️ that you read at a seminal age and are now soul-bound to: Ranger’s Apprentice, Warrior Cats, and Wings of Fire were my holy trinity
Favorite flower: crocuses!! they bring a huge smile to my face when they first appear in mid-march, and they’re so pretty!!
Favorite literary device: chekhov’s gun. i fucking love chekhov’s gun. if i could marry a literary device then there is no other that i would want to meet at the altar.
I wasn’t tagged but I fit under the ‘anyone else who wants to’ category so here goes
Signature heart emoji: probably 💖 but I use a range depending on the circumstance
Favourite colour combo: orange and green (specifically a nice burnt orange with a dark forest green)
Go-to snack: muesli bars, crackers, or fruit (especially apples, passionfruit, nectarines, or plums)

Saya stormed up to her room, dashing up the stairs to avoid any further reprimand from her dad.
The whole day was enough. Her mother, Gen, her father, her punishment--everything was too much.
Saya locked the door, and sat on her bed, trying to distract herself from the scorching in her eyes, the painful lump in her throat, and the trembling in her body.
This was nothing to cry about.
There were people whose dads hit them, or whose mothers totally surrendered them like Simon's, so long ago. There were people whose siblings passed away, or moved away. Or were cruel. People who didn't have a home or a bed to go to. People whose parents didn't even let them have a phone at her age.
Saya took deep breaths.
“This isn't bad,” Saya told herself, meeting her glistening eyes in the mirror. “Dad is just strict. And overprotective. Stressed. He loves me, and I'm here crying like a brat.”
She took another breath, finally getting the urge to change into her pajamas and pick up her phone.
Her eyes brightened as she saw a text from Myra Hook on her screen, mistyping her password several times in her excitement.
“Hey Saya baby, are you alright??? Your dad and your sister are major pricks. 🙄”
Saya's lips pressed together, stomach knotting. Genevieve could be… a lot. And the whole stunt with their mother did admittedly piss Saya off. This girl couldn't get it in her head that their mother reduced her maternal duties to money basically.
But she also couldn't blame Gen. Their mother's absence undoubtedly hurt like a bitch. Sophie, as funny and cool as she was, could not fill that void for Gen. Gen resented her, saw her as a threat to the return of their mother, to the very memory of her mother. Genevieve didn't have many friends in general, barring Simon and Saya herself.
Genevieve feared caring about other people than her own family circle and maybe her practical boyfriend, who could sympathize quite well with her situation.
And Genevieve was Saya's beloved twin sister. The one that no matter what stupid decision or heated fight, she loved more than her own life itself.
The Genevieve who was effortlessly brilliant with her words and in class. A honey-tongued, scholarly girl. It was only her lack of social presence that prevented her from being Student Council president. It had to be.
Genevieve who had a beautiful face, a lovely figure. Who was a size below Saya, who wasn't “piggy,” who never had a voracious appetite. Who didn't have to struggle like Saya did to be how she was.
Saya blinked, her thoughts drifting there again. Which reminded her that her cheat day at the restaurant had to be taken care of.
Myra had to wait just a bit longer.
Saya slowly opened her bedroom and peaked, eyes darting left to right. Dark, everyone probably in their rooms.
Good. Saya sighed in relief. She could do what she had been aching to do for hours. Take care of the problem.
In fact, if Myra hadn't been there and Genevieve hadn't caused a scene with Mom then she would have slipped into the bathroom, making up excuses about allergies if anyone noticed red eyes, wet lashes.
She tiptoed to the bathroom across her room, locking the door and turning on the sink. She trembled, trying not to cry again. Not to think of Genevieve and shopping with Myra, and Sophie and her diets, and practically any beautiful woman compared to her.
She was taking control of her body and her life. Something her father didn't step into or something Gen didn't have to do. Something that was budding even when she was eight, running around the house because weight gain scared her. When she missed the times when the doctor told her at 11 she was a bit underweight.
Saya had to work for things she wanted to be. And she would.
As long as she breathed, she would!
It took about fifteen minutes for her to climb into bed and call Myra. Her voice was still hoarse and her nose runny from her doings earlier.
“Hello?” Saya said, a bit nervous.
“Hey, Saya!” Myra chirped from the phone. “My parents said maybe you needed company. Which I would have given you regardless. Long distance in this case. Ha.”
“Ha.” Saya smiled in spite of herself. Her girlfriend always brightened the mood. “I don't really feel like addressing what happened at the restaurant, though. You already know how I feel about that woman.”
“Yeah, I get it. Have you been doing all right today though? You've been weird.”
“What do you mean?”
“I can't put a finger on it. It's just… you just happen to blank out or something whenever food comes up. Like you're genuinely uncomfortable or… or thinking too hard.”
Saya froze.
Fuck.
“Oh.”
“It's okay, you know,” Myra said softly. “We're teenagers. It doesn't matter. The doctor says you're fine, right? So just chill about it. That's what my mum always says.”
“It isn't that. I'm not insecure about my looks. Nobody but Gen really says anything about it, and she stopped recently. There's no reason to be. You know my dad has been stressing me out and I haven't been focusing on things. But I always eat big meals at home.”
Saya flinched, so glad Myra couldn't see her. She was lying through her teeth. She wasn't doing anything bad, right? So why did she feel the need to hide from everyone?
“Okay… just making sure. Sadly, my mum is calling me right now. I'll see you and Simon at school on Monday, okay?”
“Of course. I'll be looking forward to it.”
“Love you. Please take care of yourself, especially to spite your nasty father.”
Saya laughed weakly. “I will, I will.”
Monday arrived.
Saya escaped the house as soon as possible, tying her hair into a simple ponytail and applying light makeup. She shoved her books and her work uniform into her large navy blue backpack and stormed out of the front door.
It wasn't walking to school that was unusual. Saya tried to walk to places more often than not, the further the better. Driving wouldn't make her fit.
She usually notified her sister before any of her daily long walks, and prepared breakfast for both her and her father. A kindness all too often taken for granted.
She locked the door behind her, breathing in the fresh, crisp air.
Saya remembered something. She quickly went back inside the house, took out some pancakes she made the night before and threw them into the microwave.
The smell of buttermilk and maple soon wafted throughout the household. Saya sighed in relief and shoved her container of pancakes along with other empty ones inside her bag, before dashing outside again, not wanting to miss Simon, who also walked to school.
She knew she was being a dishonest wretch, but it was one of the only ways that would totally repel any of her father's questions.
Saya was barely present at mealtimes, and Rafal was starting to suspect because he didn't smell any food all too often during times she was supposedly eating. Genevieve wasn't too helpful with unknowingly keeping her sister's secret. Way too many close calls.
“Don't fail this time Saya,” she whispered to herself shakily as she felt hunger pains in her stomach. “Don't give in. This is one of the only reasons you are even still keeping your miserable self alive. To live to have the body you want! So don't be stupid and fail.”
Saya wiped at her eyes and rushed forward, trying to put on a brave face for her friends. For school. She would run as hard as she could, to burn off whatever she could.
“Hi Saya!” Simon waved at her as he exited his uncle's bakery. “Gen isn't with you?”
Saya had to abruptly stop, almost falling on her ass in the sidewalk in front of passerby. “No. You know she doesn't like walking to places. She wants Dad to drive her around like he's her personal Uber. Or me.”
Simon shrugged. *She doesn't mind walking with me.”
Saya narrowed her green eyes. “What do you mean?”
Simon blinked. “You didn't know? She walks with me to some burger joint she likes. Quite often.”
She tried not to laugh. Her sister, the apple of their father's eye, sneaking out with a boy? With Simon of all people? How amusing, yet so like Genevieve. “And when do your little dates take place, hmm?”
His round cheeks turned crimson. “They aren’t dates! Um, at least nothing romantic. We just talk and do homework together. Usually they are on days my uncle lets me have off. In the evenings. Whenever your uncle is being quite distracting.”
“Knowing her, she probably makes up some believable excuse for Dad so he lets her go. But, her frequent visits to the bakery makes more sense now.”
Not much different than myself. Excuses, excuses, so he doesn’t know.
“By the way, I have two bakery boxes with last night's leftovers! For you and Gen each. A gift from Uncle Rufius!” Simon beamed, warmth brown eyes glittering with delight.
Saya smiled sadly. Simon was always too generous for his own good.
“Thank you, Simon.”
Thank you for nothing, Simon. Thank you for giving me something to give away to someone else or to regurgitate or fast off.
Saya shook off the thought, also really shaking her head. Some curls escaped her pony tail, falling over her face.
“Hey,” a soft melodic voice said. Saya jumped, then reddened. It was a voice she knew all too well.
Myra was right in front of her, her long fingers swiping away Saya's curls and tucking them behind her ears. “Dad thought I should just walk with you after… after you know. Last night. The dinner. Your bitchy sister. Your mom. Your annoying dad.”
“Genevieve isn't a bitch,” Saya huffed, but she was smiling in response to Myra's grin. “She's just hurting and our father doesn't really guide her on it. But she does have her soft parts.” She glanced at Simon, who looked at his friends in pure confusion. “He can testify.”
Myra lifted her eyebrow. “He is biased. Come on, Simon. Just because she's your precious soul mate doesn't mean she's welcome to the group chat.”
Simon glared at her. “She's the sister of your girlfriend, Myra. Show some respect. And Gen, isn't all that bad if you actually took the time to know her and not judge.”
“Yeah, no,” Myra dismissed. She looked down at her blue acrylics. “I have seen enough of her to make a fair judgement on her character. I don’t know what you see in her, Simon. She's a literal bitch.”
“She misses her mom. I think you forget that all too often. You still have your mom with you. Gen tells me all the time about her happy memories before the divorce, before Mrs. Mistral just… left. Saya is right. Gen is hurting. She doesn’t want to believe that maybe, after all, she isn't her mother's beloved daughter. That she divorced her along with Rafal.” Simon looked away, eyes glistening. “Even after she signed off on me, I… for a long time, I couldn't believe it. I thought she would change her mind and that she would come back. Her lullabies and her hugs replayed over and over in mind until… yeah.”
“I'm sorry, Simon,” Myra said softly. Her brows were furrowed in pain. “You didn't deserve that.”
“Neither did Gen or Saya,” Simon responded firmly. “I think Sophie also throws Gen off balance. She thinks she's trying to replace the old Mrs. Mistral.”
Saya didn't think she missed her mother too much. She felt nothing about her, barely associated her with happiness at all. Sophie wasn't her mother figure, but she was nice to be around in certain contexts.
Myra glanced at her. “It sucks you share a name with that woman. Did she ever call your sister, after all that trouble?”
Saya snorted. “I doubt it. Gen would have shouted from the rooftops if she did. And Saya is technically my middle name. I just don't like Michaela. It's simply not… my vibe.”
“It definitely isn't,” Simon muttered.
“A pretty name for a pretty girl,” Myra chirped. “I like it. Imagine you with pretty bows in your hair, and your adorable smile that lights up your eyes, and I'll write a whole ass poem about you. I would rather name it Michaela than Saya. So romantic.”
Saya's cheeks flushed. “O-oh. I'm not really a poet’s girl. As in, someone a poet would write about.”
“For me you are. But fine. Saya it is.”
“You know,” Simon said, grinning ear to ear, “I should write a poem for Gen!”
“Good grief,” Myra grumbled. “Though I have to admit Genevieve is a pretty name that rolls off the tongue quite nicely, especially if read beautifully.”
Saya smiled to herself. “Go for it, Simon. I'm sure she'll be quite pleased. Probably hide the damn poem from me too. Or write one herself.”
“Hmph. I can write it better. Genevieve would be too dry and pretentious, even, I would think. Just look at her in class! I don’t know why the teachers like her so much!” Myra stomped her foot, cheeks slightly reddened with rage. In addition to being defensive over Saya, Myra found Genevieve to be an academic competition as well.
Saya sighed, a mix of happiness and weariness.
This would be a long day.
Rain’s note: I know I broke my hiatus but I wanted to post this to feel at peace. I apologize if it’s short, but it’s mostly just Saya’s insight into things. Please note a lot of this is based on my own experiences and something I still haven’t fully overcome. My heart goes out to anyone who can relate, and to those considering anything PLEASE DON’T. Please enjoy food as a pleasure of life and recognize your body is fine. Fuck anyone who makes you feel otherwise or who treats you bad. I love you and I do not want you to be like me or Saya. It isn’t fun or worth it.
Note 2: I will make this prettier on tumblr at another time.
What if we were two sides of the same coin. What if i lived in your shadow all my life but found comfort in the darkness and dont know what to do once youre gone. What if youre the only person who understands. What if you have have no idea what i went through. What if we went through the same traumas but ended up with oposite conclusions about our suffering. What if i dont recognize you anymore. What if i see the ghost of my former self reflected through your eyes. What if it never had to go this way. What if this was the only way things were ever going to go
