kali-young:
“A little bit” Kali responded, gaze still focused on her own laptop, moving her foot back on to her own couch where she was reclining. “ There was something about a person named yochi, and Eddie. And a mention of fines.” She paused, looking up with a quizzical expression. “What is “awoo” and why do you have to pay to do it?” Waving a hand, Kali brushed it off, looking intently at him. “Anyways, not what I wanted to talk to you about” She responded, turning her laptop screen to show two different pairs of lingerie pulled up. “Which one should I get first?” Maybe she shouldn’t be browsing lingerie sites in public, but there was a sale, and Kali loved online sales.
Taking in a deep breath, Lucas shook his head slightly to try and dissipate the last of his drowziness, “Well, while I don’t know what the hell ‘awoo’ is, I can tell you that Yochi is my younger sister; she moved here not too long ago. Surprised you two haven’t crossed paths yet.” Squinting at her computer screen, he shrugged, “The blue looks a bit more like your style but I barely see you in anything other than black so it’s hard to make a decision.”
“Hmph- what?” Lucas’s head jerked up from where it had been resting, and he squinted through the skewed lenses of his glasses, eyeing the document in front of him. The letters were garbled, but the most distinct feature of the article he’d been attempting to write was a long trail of ‘zzzzzz’ spanning most of the page. He sighed, straightening his glasses back out before turning to who’d woken him up from his impromptu nap, “Sorry, was I snoring? Or talking? I’ve heard I say some quote-worthy things when I’m half-asleep.”
yochicantrell:
Yochi was quite content to play in the dead leaves, and the rotting soil of the forest. She had now smudged dirt all over her snout, but she didn’t mind cause she had fur. She could wag it off later. She perked up, tongue hanging out of her mouth slightly as she panted, tasting the air.

Bounding down the hill, Lucas pounced into the smaller figure, his tail wagging behind him as the two tumbled into the dead leaves under them. Bounding back to his feet, he crouched as if to pounce again, the cold all but gone and his tongue hanging out of his mouth slightly. This is what he had missed the most after moving out, just being able to play with and bond with his sister, with someone who enjoyed the experience as much as he did. It was a refreshing change from his parents.
Lucas had never really felt the cold, the fur combining with his own naturally warm body temperature making it hard to sense any real changes in temperature. Still, something about the harshness of the air cut him to the quick tonight, and the snow under his feet sent the chill to his core. A shiver wracked his body and he tried to shake it off, feeling his ears smack against his head before he came over a ridge, sniffing at the air to pick up a familiar scent.
yochicantrell:
“What if I just curl on top of him?” She smiled. “And once he’s cozy grab the whole tray?”
She hummed, examing the ends of her hair with fake interest. She didn’t mind that much what Lucas ate. She couldn’t change him, and didn’t really want to at the end of the day, it was all just talk. She grinned. “Okay well then I’ll just have to cuddle Iris twice as much as I would have. When did you get them? How big are they? Send me all the pictures- wait-” She shoved his arm. “How come you didn’t send me pictures?”
Lucas paused, thinking over the suggestion, “Ya know, that might just work. I might need to try that next time just to teach him what happens when he tries to eat a whole batch before I even have the chance to bake them.”
He just laughed when she started rambling about how she was going to love on Iris, taken aback as she shoved his arm (even though it was weak enough he hardly even felt it). “Sorry?” he apologized, shrugging a bit, “I just... never really thought to? It’s been kinda busy here is all. But hey, now you’re here, for whatever reason it may be, so you can come up and cuddle with them whenever you like.”
yochicantrell:
“I guess I’ll have to nip at his heels as soon as I start smelling the dough, huh?” Yochi laughed. She was sure she could wrestle at least one cookie from Alistair- maybe half a cookie that Lucas hid away just for her. She raised her eyebrows, laughing as he mocked her with a big smile. At least it changed the subject. She sighed as the bantered over the old kosher topic. “I’ll never understand how you can eat the baby and drink the milk that was meant to help it grow up big and strong, Lucas, but sure! Pizza it is. I’ll just pick it off. What’s the name of the place? Did you just say you have kitties?”
“No what you have to do is distract him long enough to grab one and then run, I’ve tried nipping at his heels and it just doesn’t work,” Lucas pointed out. When she commented on his eating habits, he shrugged, “I’ve spent pretty much my entire life morphing into a dangerous predator with teeth that can snap a mundane in half. Unfortunately that means I feel the need to mix some proteins sometimes. And yes,” he nodded, “I do have kitties. Two of them, in fact. George doesn’t always warm up to new people but Iris will be all over you as soon as you step in the apartment.”
eddie-jacobs:
Usually Eddie was good at making sure he kept extra clothes everywhere, nearly always having one change of outfit on hand for if he shifted without stripping down first. But he had taken his emergency shop outfit home to wash it last week and forgotten to bring it back, which lead to his current predicament. He had been forced to shift when a fire fae got insulted and started sending off sparks on the second floor, his wolf form necessary to get the young girl the hell out of his shop before it lit on fire. But the shift had been so sudden his clothes hadn’t survived, and all he had left was a pair of old and slightly ragged jeans he had almost forgotten about. Normally he would have just closed up to go get a shirt (and some boxers) but he was expecting a shipment of books that he had to sign for at any moment. So here he was, sat behind his desk and trying to pretend like nothing was wrong. Feeling someone’s gaze on him, he sighed heavily. “It’s a long story, don’t laugh”
Lucas had been staring at his phone as he walked into the shop, trying to examine the 14-syllable words that made up the title of the textbook Alistair had begged him to pick up. He sniffed around habitually without looking up, surprised by the smell of cinders, but more surprised when he looked up as he approached the desk to find Eddie in his... predicament. Even at the older wolf’s request, he couldn’t help but snort out a laugh, involuntarily smacking his phone down on the counter. Composing himself, he looked back to Eddie, “Well this is a surprise, are you expecting anybody? Should I leave you alone?”
yochicantrell:
“Oh, totally. You can put ‘em in the microwave.” Yochi grinned. She was still about as terrible a cook as she had always been, setting fire to the spaghetti noddle she tried to boil only a few weeks ago. Maybe living alone would help her learn, but she was starting to doubt it.
“Come on, Lucas. If we go get pizza, I’ll let you mix the meat and cheese!” She cooed, swinging his hand back and forth. Typically she made him keep it separate if they were sharing a meal, but this she’d put up with to change the topic. “What do you want, pepperoni? Sausage? Salsiccia?”
“I’ll definitely be whipping up some welcome cookies before too long, but I make no promises that Alistair isn’t going to eat them all before you have a chance to get to them,” he shrugged, smirking as she made the pizza offer. She really was looking to change the subject. Thinking he might have a little fun with this, he slung an arm over her shoulders, picking up his guitar, “Funny you say that, since there’s this great pizza place down the way that delivers teh best meat lover’s pie I’ve ever had. You can come upstairs, meet the cats, we’ll make a movie night of it, all with five different kinds of meat on the pie.”
yochicantrell:
“Yeah you jerk.” She mock shoved his arm, still grinning at him as he bashfully admitted how he left. “Yeah. It’s not a bad place. I have room for cereal and milk, that’s about all I need.”
She grinned, holding on tight until Lucas put her back down. She kept hugging him, still, happy to have her brother back in her arms. With a bite of her lips, she shrugged and diverted the topic. “Hey, we should get pizza, or coffee. Catch up!”
Lucas laughed, nodding at her comment about the apartment’s space, “Yes, only the breakfast necessities. And some room for some baked goods when I need to get them out of my own place, I hope.”
At her comment about the two for them going to get some food to catch up, he raised an eyebrow. He knew Yochi, and she was avoiding the question b trying to change the subject. “C’mon, you expect me not to be curious why my sister suddenly decided she didn’t want to live at home? You don’t have to tell me if you don’t want to, but I know something’s up, Yochi.”
yochicantrell:
Yochi squealed, and threw her hands up to hug him, wrapping around his neck. “I didn’t know you moved here, oh my gosh!”
She bounced on her toes to hug him. It was too good of a surprise, she had missed Lucas so much since he moved out. “Yeah! I got an apartment! It’s one of the smaller ones duh, cause life is expensive. But it’s so nice and pretty here. And now you’re here! Or now I’m here, oh my gosh!”
“Yeah, I did kind of up and leave without saying much, eh?” Lucas stepped back, rubbing at the back of his neck, “But totally, life is so expensive so I completely get having one of the smaller places, but you’re welcome to come and crash with me and my roommate whenever you like.” Overcome with excitement, he scooped her back up and spun her around, “I just can’t believe you’re here. Wait...” he let her go, suddenly curious, “Why are you here?”
yochicantrell:
Yochi knew that voice anywhere, but it still made her stop and turn around. She had no idea that Lucas was here, of all places, he was here. So she tip toed back into place, stepping behind Lucas so he wouldn’t see her, not just yet. She crossed her arms, waiting with some limited patience until he noticed that anyone was even near.
“Please. Like I’m going to tell you to shut up.”
Lucas didn’t know what (or who) he had expected to respond to him, but the voice he heard was among the last ones on the list. His head shot up in surprise before slowly turning to look behind him. Once his eyes landed on the girl who had interrupted him, he beamed, putting his guitar aside and practically vaulting over the back of his couch to wrap her up in a tight bear hug, “Yochi!! Oh my gosh what are you doing here?” He hadn’t seen his little sister since he moved to the Gardens, and had been certain he’d never hear from her again. Having her pop up here, of all places, he was surprised to say the least.
Lucas plucked away at the strings of his guitar, mindlessly humming along with the melody as it formed at his fingers. As he listened to the notes, he felt words start forming in his head and began singing, slowly piecing them together as they came into his head. “I wanna get back to where we started, in the summer light... ya know, ya know, ya know, we’ve got it right...”
Feeling a set of eyes on him, he chuckled, not looking up from the guitar, “Sorry, been playing with some new melodies, like to think out loud sometimes. I’ll shut up if you want me to.”

waving their hand dismissively,, they shrugged. it probably wasn’t THAT important if he was doing it in a cafe that has a giraffe on one of their walls. unless it was like,, a giraffe with a degree. wow,, did land animals go to school?
❝ well,, sure. but when am i REALLY going to need to know about mitoconmia — i don’t wanna be a powerhouse OR go to jail,, so what’s the point? ❞
poseidon — what they’d give for a class in thaumaturgy. they were great at that. they made their first magic mirror without any help JUST before they;; er,, had to leave.
“Well considering it’s pronounced mitochondria I hope you don’t need to now anytime soon,” Lucas tried to keep chipper but he’d been up all night working on perfecting an article and it was starting to set in. Taking a sip of his cold brew, he couldn’t stop himself from smirking, “Besides, you’d think you’d listen to Professor Ruff Barkington.” He froze as he went to put his drink down, realizing how Marina hadn’t realized that was him in the woods that night. Not to mention he wasn’t sure if he wanted them to realize it was him.
Fighting the urge to run naked under the moon is the worst…
Lucas Cantrell always considered himself to be very lucky. The son of two affluent business owners living in the heart of the city, he spent much of his time growing up learning the art of the schmooze, his charismatic nature honed by frequent public appearances and events alongside his parents. However, there was just one issue. It was getting harder and harder for his parents to explain just why it was they vanished from the public eye at certain points every month. And just why it was those points in time always seemed to coincide with the full moon.
Neither Mr. or Mrs. Cantrell liked the term “werewolf.” They always referred to it as “a furry little problem” or “the monthly incident” or something along those lines. Lucas didn’t care. He actually almost liked the term. Maybe that was simply because this was the only way he’d ever known his life to be. Sure, going feral wasn’t the most enjoyable experience but the power of a wolf’s body, the senses able to pick up the slightest change in a person (one of his father’s “business secrets” that always allows him to win over even the most stubborn of associates), and the feeling of grass and dirt under his paws as he runs through the forest are among some of his favorite parts of this “furry little problem” of his. And having been a were all his life, he really didn’t know any other way. Which led to a… strained connection with his parents in recent years.
Ever since he turned 18, Lucas had begun to felt confined, stuffed up in his life as an obedient son. He was beginning to feel more drawn away from the city and towards the forest, the trees and foliage granting more solace to his character than the cold, harsh angles of a life in the city. He still enjoyed venturing into the streets and exploring, yes, but to him it was never going to truly feel like home. It wasn’t long after this wanderlust developed that he found his way to the Rose Gardens, and he hasn’t looked back since.
… finding an apartment shouldn’t have to be
For as long as he can remember, Lucas has heard himself be compared to a friendly puppy. While he enjoys the fact that very few know just how accurate a comparison that is, the friendly face he presents to others has always given way a more lonely individual than most may expect. The fear of losing control and attacking anyone nearby made him reluctant to get too close to anyone. He always was surrounded by a lot of acquaintances but never had anyone he could really consider a close friend, and he’s left behind more people than he really wants to admit. In coming to the Rose Gardens he’s hoping he might finally be able to allow himself to develop real relationships with other people outside of business partners of his parents and other “beneficial connections.” He’s hoping that finally he’ll be able to find someone he can actually call a real friend.

artemis sighed loudly,, for the third time that hour. eyeing their companion,, they finally clapped their hands down onto the wooden surface. they were surprised they lasted that long,, actually.
❝ okay,, i know i said i’d be quiet while you were working,, and i’m SUPER sorry,, but this is important. would you describe me as CHARMING,, INTELLIGENT,, OBNOXIOUS,, SHY,, or M A L I C I O U S ??? ❞
they ignored the look they were being given,, swivelling their laptop around. “it’s for a quiz,, it says ‘how would a friend describe you’,, what do you think?” they smiled at the other hopefully. what would they do if they didn’t know what coffee flavour they were? they didn’t DRINK coffee, so it wasn’t like they could find out themselves!
Lucas jumped at the loud smack of hands on the table, but sighed as Marina started their jabbering. “Good lord Mari, I was just getting into an editing groove,” he tugged his headphones out of his ears and pushed his glasses up to pinch at the bridge of his nose before squinting at the computer screen. Looking back up to them, he raised an eyebrow, “I mean I’ll go with charming, but aren’t there other things you could be doing with your time? Shouldn’t you be studying?” He loved Marina, he really did, but something in him really wanted to go wolf on them in that moment.
