“Nope.” He shook his head, “that’s boring, I don’t want boring.” Anyone could buy alcohol, but what was the point in that? The guy already had a liquor cabinet, he filled it with what he liked, not what other people bought for him. “But that does say a lot about you. Your shock and awe is marriage and booze.” 

He turned his hands upside down, arms lifting into a shrug as he chuckled to himself. “What can I say man? Creature of habit an’ all that. Either way, I’m out of ideas.”

  “I can honestly understand that. I am the same when it comes to my job and when am working with patients and also when i am writing” he said with a warm smile, “Nice to meet you Luke”

His head nodded in an attempt to feign interest, and really, he was good at it. A true master of deception, holding conversation, throwing a chuckle in when he needed. That was how he pulled his women, and it was something he was just good at, in all walks of his life. “Yeah, you too man,” He remarks, nod of his head.

She took another quick look at the guy on her phone screen again, making sure that her earlier judgment was sound before she’d asked him. “I don’t know… I guess him writing that he loves pineapples on his pizza made me biased for some reason and turned him hot.” She looked back at Lucian. “Am I losing my game? Oh, god— what if I start dating total uggos? What if my future husband ends up looking like a freakin’ goblin? Oh god.” She lifted a hand to her mouth as she gasped in horror.

Lucian smirked again, his head shaking at the woman across from him, his own hand reaching for his phone, thumb tapping away at the screen for a moment. “Are you kidding? That’s even more reason to be a nottie, pineapple doesn’t belong on pizza.” He remarks, tone nothing less that throughly serious. “.... do you think we’d really let that happen to you? Pft.”

“That’s again, not the point.” The only reason he wasn’t married now was because he was more or less left at the alter, so to him wasn’t going to go again, but it wasn’t about any of that. “And– okay.” He laughed this time, “whatever you say.” 

He shrugged lightly, he could have been married too, and maybe that was why he was so bitter about the whole idea. Sure, part of him knew he’d had a lucky escape, he didn’t want somebody in his life that’d sleep with his friend weeks after he left state for school, but alas, he’d been young and proposal had seemed like the only option: now it seemed like the only thing he wouldn’t do. Chuckling softly to himself, his head shook lightly. “Anyway — back to the original question, expensive liqueur, that’s what I send to family members that aren’t directly related.”

“I’m having to coach the female volleyball team as their coach broke her foot when her dog farted… no, I don’t get it either. I’m  the head of humanities for fuck sake and would you Look at this outfit? I can’t even… I also have shorts.”

Lucian laughed, he didn’t mean to. He simply couldn’t help himself. His head shaking seconds later as he let out another chuckle, “you’re rockin’ it man, don’t worry, you’ll do great—” he wasn’t so sure of that, but alas, he was all for giving out the pep talk where it seemed necessary. “And hey, if you do terribly, at least, y’know—” he shrugged, attempting to think of something positive. “.... You have some nice shorts from the experience.”

“Do you want a cookie?” Dani asked. “I have way too many and I’ll eat them all if no one stops me.”

Pushing his tongue into his cheek, Lucian smirked, his head nodding simply, just once. “Yeah, go on then.”

“It’s not a myth.” He said like it was the stupidest thing he’d ever heard, “and it’s not about the piece of paper. You just–” Sebastian paused, “sound a little like an idiot.” 

“You don’t need to get married, its not life and death.” He responds, almost matter-of-factly, “it’s just an overpriced excuse of a day for all attention on you, and then you have to shag the same person, day in, day out, forever.” He shrugged, head shaking. “Unless you get divorced, which then adds even more expense onto something that isn’t even necessary to begin with.”

“Okay,  be honest.” She turned her phone so it was facing the other, displaying some guy’s Tinder profile. “Hottie or nottie?”

His brow raised, smirk lingering upon his features as his head shook. “Nottie, c’mon, I thought you had taste, or whatever.”

  “okay, i have seem you in the ER a few times” he said, “I am Jason Grey by the way”

Closing the medical journal sat in front of him, he figured he wasn’t going to get much chance to read it now, seeing as the stranger across from him seemed intent on conversation. Lucian and his British charm being far too polite to tell him he was busy. “Undoubtedly, I uh — lost in he moment, don’t take much notice of other things around me.” And that was true, truly dedicated to his job during working hours, his concern was his patients, and only his patients. “Jason—” he nodded his head. “Please. Lucian Ford, people call me Luke.” Lucian was always so formal.

“I don’t think I should have to.” He shook his head, “I asked you want the craziest thing you could think of getting someone was, not to think about who it was for, or why or anything like that and if you think marriage is crazy, then your idea of what marriage is is actually what’s crazy.” 

“Marriage is a myth, really. Who needs paper to say they love somebody?” He spoke, shoulder shrugging. Though, truth be told: he’d been willing to get married, once upon a time.

  “I agree and second that” he said with a warm smile, “You look familiar, by any chance you’re a doctor and work at the hospital right?”

He nodded his head simply, his gaze flickering back down to his book for a moment. “I uh — do the odd shift in ER.” He remarks, “I run the doctors office in Westbrook, though. So yeah, I’m a doctor, not a hospital one though, not anymore.”

   “Thanks a lot” he smiled as he took a seat, “can’t believe how busy it is today. Was hoping for it not to be so”

Lucian glanced up from the medical journal his eyes had been following, his brow raising slightly as his eyes darted around the room. Honestly, he wasn’t one for small talk during his morning routine, yet, here he was. “I mean, nectar of the Gods and all that—” he hums, head nodding towards his coffee mug.

“And why do I need to buy my uncle a ring?” 

“I mean uh.” He’d clearly assumed, and that was now biting him because he didn’t have anything even remotely witty to say in response. Chuckling to himself. “Man, I dunno, maybe next time you should specify who you’re buyin’ for.”

“Okay, pretend money is no option.” He said, mostly because in Sebastian’s life, it wasn’t, it’d never been. “What’s the craziest thing you could think to give someone? Not an airplane or a house or anything like that.”

Brow cocking, the male chuckled to himself as he looked at the other. Smirk widening after a moment he shrugged his shoulder ever so lightly. “A ring.”

  “excuse me. Is this seat taken?” he asked, “every where else seem to be filled”

Cocking a brow, Lucian looked across at the stranger before raising a hand to lazily gesture to the seat the male had asked about. “Feel free—” he hums.

“Well, it’s someone’s birthday somewhere out there so how about cheers to that?”

Lucian smirks, as if he needed a reason to drink. Head nodding, he lifts his glass of boubon, the liquid touching his lips as he took a short swig. “That —” he started, lowering the glass a couple of inches. “Is something I can drink to.”
