HELLO EVERYBODY I HAVW RETURNED TO GRACE YOUR FEED WITH ME. todays thoughts: i am gay
one of the worst parts of college is when you don’t wanna go to class and you think “well……. i COULD skip…….” and then you gotta talk yourself into sucking it up, being a responsible adult, and going to this goddamn fucking stupid class you goddamn fucking hate so goddamn fucking much
Part of my roadtrip tool me to Atlanta. And, the Civil Rights Center was amazing. Very powerful. They have this one exhibit where you sit at a lunch counter and close your eyes and put on headphones. And It plays sounds like you are at a sit in and people are yelling. And it times how long you can sit there for. I think i lasted almost a minute before i was almost crying.
It…made its point.
And most of those people were being physically assaulted too
That’s a brilliant exhibit
If you make it long enough, the chair actually shakes a little, along with the sound of someone hitting the chair with a bat. It was super intense. (It included a trigger warning for obvious reasons.)
What’s the address of this place? It’s now on my bucket list
100 IVAN ALLEN JR. BLVD Its right next to the aquarium and world of coca cola.
What’s also really great is there’s an attendant too. If a person gets overwhelmed or has a panic attack the attendant will sit with them, console them, and give them tissues. AKA guess what happened to me when I used the headphones
This is one of my favorite museums of all time. Last time I went there was an older couple (white girl and black guy) who I watched sit through it, and at the end they were crying and she hugged him, saying “I’m so sorry I wasn’t there with you”

Priest: Do you take this woman to be your lawfully wedded gal pal?
just because police forces kill fewer people doesn’t mean they aren’t systemically racist and corrupt; resist all attempts to make policing in your country seem palatable compared to the united states
This is Eugene Ejike Obiora, he was strangled to death by a Norwegian police officer in 2006. The officer who killed him was acquitted, and has since been promoted to operation leader.
In the police logs Obiora is always referred to by the n-word.
Two of the policemen who were involved in the arrest had previously been reported for violence on 14 different occasions. The police officer who killed Obiora had been reported three times.
The same officer was also involved in the arrest of Sophia Baidoo, a Ghanaian woman who worked as cleaner at a bank. She was arrested at her own workplace after a colleague had activated the safety alarm on her, refusing to believe that she was supposed to be cleaning there that night. She could prove that she worked there, and knew the codes to the security system, yet the police would not believe her. During the arrest, Baidoo was subjected to racist verbal abuse, and put in the same kind of chokehold that killed Obiora.
While lethal force is thankfully rare within the Norwegian police force, racism is still a massive problem. A recent study showed that among a group of 120 Norwegian teenagers, almost all of the young minority boys had at some point been subjected to racial profiling. These “random” stops are often deliberately made to be humiliating, with the police asking minorities how they are able to afford [expensive thing], or detaining them in public spaces (there was a recent episode from a McDonald’s where police lined up two minority boys—who were not accused of anything—and took pictures of them in front of the costumers).
If you think a bachelors degree is gonna solve systematic racism within the police system you need a reality check.
Okay, but let’s *not* fall into the cure-all-or-nothing fallacy of “anything less than a perfect solution is worthless”.
A college degree won’t completely uproot racism (or any prejudice) from a person. 100% agreed. It absolutely is folly to believe otherwise. And being better than other countries (America) in this-or-that regard of social justice doesn’t mean other countries (Norway or etc.) can get complacent (“better” is not the same as “good enough”; 10 is better than 5, but it still falls far too short if the minimum we need is 20). But my impression is these responses are dismissing the point about education’s correlation to non-lethal results.
BECAUSE–gods above and below!–education sure seems to diminish the likelihood a police officer will *kill* someone. How is that *not* moving in the right direction? How is that *not* moving from a 5 in the direction of 10 (which means, ultimately, in the direction of 20)?
To me, this screams: MORE REQUIRED EDUCATION (higher standards for who can wear the badge) PRODUCES BETTER RESULTS. Let’s not miss that point while remaining cognizant of the realities of systemic racism throughout Western Society. After all, how else do we end systemic racism if not with more and better education?
thisssss
like OP wasn’t trying to say “HAHA see these countries are less racist than u stupid americans because less people die here” or at least I assume they didn’t
nobody was saying these places were free from systemic racism, just that less people die when the police actually knows what the fuck they are doing
what, and I cannot stress this enough, the fuck
fuck whatever fake-ass feral aesthetic you guys are cultivating, this guy has it on lock
Don’t forget about this one.
It gets weirder…
“Many of you are writing about race, racism and white supremacy right now. Please use this chart to correctly identify Black Americans. Accuracy in how we identify folks is paramount always but especially right now.”
Pooh Bear
I see many Winnie the Poohs at the hospital (aka Winnie aka Pooh aka Pooh Bear), as you may guess. Many look like this, a bit flat and with small wounds, designed to have a removable shirt:
They come for spas:
New hearts and stuffing:
And plumping up so they have a proper belly again:
Sometimes they look like this:
A bit more loved… or as his person said, in more “desperate condition”.
He also had a spa (not everyone does):
As you may’ve noticed, he needed a new nose and there were several options:
His heart had a pooh on it as well as some magic from a heffalump:
And after a bit of arm and smile surgery, soon he was healthy and ready to fly home:
His person wrote “He looks wonderful!”
The final Pooh I’m going to show you today just flew home yesterday. He is always called Pooh Bear. He is 14 years old and showed every year of hugs.
Here are the photos his person’s mom sent for diagnosis:
As you can see, Pooh Bear was a bit flat and a bit gray. He came in for a spa:
Got new stuffing and a magical Heffalump heart to preserve a bit of his original stuffing:
And finally was clean and plump and fluffy and ready to fly home:
He could even sit on his own! His people said his chubbiness was perfect and as I said, he flew home yesterday!
