CRUISING IN CARS EPISODE #11
Tito & the Ferrari F12
Tito & the Ferrari F12
I have to admit, I have ridden in and driven many nice cars. But this Ferrari F12 was the first time I rode in what I envision as a modern grand touring supercar, like the 80’s Testarossa meets a 60’s front engine Ferrari (purely from a fanboy perspective as I haven’t ridden in either). The seating, the sound, the front mid engine V12 balance was dare I say “Breathtaking.” The soul of this car literally stole my heart and it’s keeper, Tito’s heart, well I believe his heart is currently embedded in this machine. Tito and I have had many encounters in the past, his Nissan GTR, BMW M3, his McLaren 650S, and Porsche GT3 all have been memorable experiences, but nothing like this.
Tito’s smile and enthusiasm is something I have always appreciated and admired. I call him a serial car enthusiast. Some buy tons of cars and store them, he seems to have an experience at a time with each car. He isn’t one to hold back on driving them, tracking them, and he definitely shares his experience with others at car shows and drives. Tito isn’t the Ferrari owner who keeps the miles low and keeps the car in the garage, he drives it, he uses it, and when he’s driving it, it is in race mode and the active exhaust is open.
We met up in the early AM on a Saturday to shoot and it’s funny because we are both timely people, almost competing to see who will show up earlier. We said 7:20, then 7, then we were both there by 6:50, Tito beating me and my wife, by who knows how much. We got together so early, you can see from the photos we were able to do a “night” shoot in addition to a daylight shoot. The results were stunning, especially since I was just using a Sony A6400 crop camera with an 18-135 F4 lens and my iphone for the interview/ride along.
Bottom line, watch the video and if possible with headphones, while it is nothing like actually being in the car, it is an amazing sound nonetheless. Being in the car, those shifts you hear are physical sensations, not just aural. My feet are planted on the metal plate in the passenger well to keep me “planted” as I shoot and the G’s are awesome. The wheel spin that occurred at times, added to the fluid feeling of the car which reminded me of times that electronic intervention can be done gracefully.
I cannot thank Tito enough for the grand touring experience. Also a shout out to my wife for helping me with the shoot, it was an awesome Saturday morning date ha ha ha!
