Whatâs more OOC? Han going back to smuggling and abandoning his wife and son or Luke cutting himself off from the force, contemplating killing his nephew and abandoning his sister? Thoughts lol???
Iâve been thinking about itâŠand I donât know. I canât decide whatâs worse and I canât decide whatâs more out of character.
I canât see Han going back to smuggling and abandoning Leia - that is just crazy. Iâm really sick of fans screaming about how TLJ destroys Luke but that they thought what happened to Han in TFA was all right. No, it damn well wasnât. I canât see Han leaving Leia, I canât see him going back to smuggling - which, why? In Bloodline, we can guess with Leiaâs career ruined because of the Vader exposure, that maybe his business suffers? But why does he go right back to smuggling? Why does he think Leia canât even look at him because Kylo turns? NONE OF IT MAKES SENSE. Itâs not a Han I recognize. Itâs not a Leia I recognize - she would look at Han like that? Why wouldnât they pull together instead of apart - they did every moment of the OT!
Or thereâs Luke. First, I have to somehow swallow that, instead of reasoning with Ben, who hasnât done anything bad yet, he walks in on his sleeping nephew, his sister and best friendâs child, his only family besides them - and ignites a saber to kill him. Anyone whoâs going to argue me that that is Luke Skywalker, Iâm sorry, you canât. Thatâs bullshit. Thatâs Jake Skywalker, as Mark said. The man who gave Vader a chance at 23, somehow canât reason with his nephew at 40something.
THEN, I have to believe thatâŠinstead of Ben calling mom and dad to talk about why Uncle Lukeâs lost it, he destroys the whole compound and kills some of his fellow students and takes the rest away. INSTEAD of killing his uncle who tried to kill him! Please explain that. And when youâre done with that, tell me why Luke would run away without a word to Han and Leia about their now crazy son who, for all Luke knows, will be after them next. Who instead of trying to stop Kylo or even figure out where heâs gone, he just hightails it off to find the âfirst Jedi templeâ - for reasons we all thought. I mean, he sees all the evil Ben will do andâŠdoes nothing? Really? LUKE?
So he goes to the wellspring of the Jedi beliefs, then he promptly somehow cuts himself off from the Force and waits to die. Heâs 53, itâs gonna be a long wait, unless he hurls himself off a cliff.
So I honestly donât know. Itâs pretty much a toss up, although frankly, Luke going to kill Ben is so egregious, it may win. I mean itâs like a contest as to which is worse, the Black Death or the Spanish flu epidemic, but that might be my vote.
As to the worse fate, Han wins. He loses his wife, his hard fought ascension to the upper echelon of society, his ship, and then his life, without even a battle or a chance. Cold blooded murder. At least Luke controlled his fate - it was his decision to not even get off his island to come to Leiaâs aidâŠ
No, thatâs the determining factor, Luke is more out of character.
