My post-rolling hair is always so silly. But class was great tonight, got to work with one of my favorite folks. Although I did pull my signature move and use his knee to knee myself in the mouth trying to pass his guard.
Took down my French braids after bjj
My gym finally posted some photos from a no gi seminar a few weeks back and the only ones of my I’m either getting choked or taken down.
Before and after
Hurt my neck/shoulder AGAIN. I can only sort of turn it to the right. Whyyyy do I keep doing this?
Got my blue belt today, y’all! I’m so grateful for my coaches, teammates and everyone who has helped me along the way. It’s the first big milestone on a long journey!
Face got a little beat up in class tonight. Oops!
what is the january mood?
@angel-ani this post has been all over my dash and well, I’m just proud to know you 😄
Before and after jiu-jitsu hair
Added some new stripes to my belt. I’m so grateful for everyone who has helped me and been patient with me and taken the time to work with me. It’s been awesome so far and it’s just starting.
There's a 12-year-old girl in my bjj basics class whom I work with a lot and is super fun even though she's about the size of one of my legs.
Today I told her that the chokes I used to get on my regular training partner aren't working anymore because he knows them too well. She asked why I didn't ask some of the trainers for new moves and I told her it's because I have a hard time asking people to spend time on me. Her response: "My advice as a 12, almost 13-year-old, is you need to uhhhh...umm...man up."
Creative new jiu-jitsu move: use someone else's knee to knee yourself in the face.
Generally feeling super beat up today but it was a great class. Shoulder is achy, ribs are achy, but I think the tendinitis in my fingers is gradually subsiding. I feel like I've been accomplishing a lot but I also feel like there's so much I need to work on I'll never possibly get to it all but I'm going to keep chipping away!
I've said it before and I'll say it again: I am so grateful for the upper belts at my gym who take the time to help me work through stuff, give me pointers and help me after class. I love the community at my gym so much.
I was feeling a little discouraged after class on Thursday because I really did not roll well. One of the purple belts was being really tough on me but I need to remember that she's tough because she trusts that I can handle it. But Saturday class totally got me back on track. My drilling partner was amazing and fun and supportive. There was only one other white belt in class and only one blue belt (but he has three stripes and is huge) and the rest were purple and black belts. But I managed a pretty good bow and arrow choke (the guy wasn't giving me that much resistance but still) and I surprised a purple belt with a collar choke I learned at the Cleber seminar. It was super rewarding!
Lots of half guard stuff lately and my leg is getting beat to hell.
