🍉Fanfic Requests For Gaza (:!🍉

As part of the lovely effort organised by the people over at @ficsforgaza, and to try and raise some more money for Palestinian individuals and families who desperately need it, I will be participating in the fics for Gaza initiative!

If you're a fellow fanfic writer or a fanfic reader wanting more in-depth information about this/wanting to find other readers/maybe looking to participate yourself, I heavily recommend checking out this masterpost and the @ficsforgaza blog in general.

How do I request a fic?

If you're interested in requesting a fic, all you have to do is message me your actual fic request, be it a detailed outline or something vague like tone or ship or tropes, and then after I've confirmed I can do it donate to one of these vetted fundraisers for individuals and families, or one of these vetted fundraisers, then send me an ask or message with a screenshot of your donation (with any sensitive or personal information blocked out of course)!

The word count of the fic will be based on how much you donate, with a rate of 1$ for roughly every 100 words (for example, if you donate 5$ to a fundraiser, you'll get a fic that's roughly 500 words, and if you donate 10$, you'll get roughly 1000 words.). I'm not going to cut off a fic early if it goes a bit over, but the fic will be about however many 100 words you donate.

Please let me know what type of fic you want before you donate. This allows me to talk to you about your ideas, allows us to agree on a rough word count, and allows me to check my availability so I don't get overloaded with work. If I can't take a request due to my own lack of time, or a fic idea needs a minimum length to work, I'd much much rather figure that out before you spend any money.

What kinds of fics can I request?

Obviously don't request anything intentionally bigoted or hateful, but aside from that, anything goes! I'm a very open-minded person, and as a lover of all things horror and all things erotica there are no subjects too kinky or macabre for me to write about. Tried my hand at @creatingblackcharacters DTIYS this month!!! Never played the game she’s from before—and based on my very limited information gathered about it probably never will—but liked Lumi’s vibe, and so wanted to attempt a redesign that was relatively close to the original. Had a lot of fun trying different hairstyles before deciding on this one, and decided to make her top into more of a sweater shape so she wouldn’t feel cold (:

Obviously some of the weirdness here stems from lived experience right? Growing up under the heel of patriarchy, being subjected to the worst of misogynistic violence, and now being told you have the capacity to perpetuate?

I’m comfortable conceding that I benefited from male privilege. I was conventionally attractive, conventionally masculine, and decently popular - woulda been a pretty sweet gig if I didn’t keep trying to kill myself

My privilege was self evident, but what bolded and underlined it was when it started going away

Suddenly I was getting talked over, my opinions taken less seriously, my circle and community started getting more handsy- more sexually inappropriate, I was getting followed by strangers, I needed to be walked home

I used to be the group’s bodyguard/bouncer, now I was the one that each night inevitably needed “”protecting “”

We don’t speak anymore but my best friend of ~5years was a fat jewish transmasc - we were drift compatible, soul bound, a transsexual Wario & Waluigi

He’s still someone I really respect. He experienced possibly the worst of patriarchal cruelty but refused to let it take his empathy. He managed to dodge the Zionist grift + the 4tran Tcel whispers and went above and beyond the other direction

We were really in the weeds of each other’s transition, we shared everything. He got to hear about me losing privileges and I got to hear about the inverse

Feeling like he could part tides walking down the sidewalk, being the one de-escalating at the club, getting treated like an expert when he was talking out his ass

I also got to hear about some of the weirder moments. I got to hear about the first time he was read as cis, the first time he realized women weren’t viewing him as default safe, first time being grouped together with his cis boss/coworkers, getting included in the broader label of “men”

It was lonely, it was isolating, a loss of identity, of community, of kinship, all gnarled up with a bizarre guilt

an incredibly unique part of transmasculinity is that its an identity that can raise your position in society

TO BE SO OVERLY CLEAR we are ALL still very far down the social ladder, it’s just that you have the capacity to climb a rung or two higher - it’s dynamic

You are the independent variable, you are free the experiment with this. You can dress like Kevin Smith and go do errands then compare/contrast with wearing a dress + full face makeup, rinse repeat till p < 0.05 or whatever (don’t do this)

When we parted ways my friend and I both stood at a crossroad in our transitions. We’d been following along the path of a binary transition even if we didn’t fully identify that way

I was having safety concerns. Further committal acts might bar me access to boymoding - to temporary male privilege. I didn’t update passport cause it complicates international travel and although I hate having facial hair I was wary of laser since a weeks beard and a hoodie is such a good “in case of emergency break glass”

Taking that plunge means “safety” is now reliant on passing and even then there’s a cap to how safe when the best I can manage is cis womanhood

His problems were much more social- experimenting with “trading in” some of that newfound privilege for a sense of belonging

It was a balancing act - go just far enough for an acceptable uptick in homophobia but no so far that you out yourself and lose that newfound safety

His problems were not nothing but we could both acknowledge we faced differing issues. Issues firmly rooted in how we were now being perceived in a patriarchal society

Okay, so, I very rarely engage actively with this side of Tumblr outside of means, but I think OP’s post is really well written, and sums up what I think is one of the main cruxes of why online trans spaces are Like ThatTM, and — in the interest of lived experience — I want to talk a little bit about mine.

I consider myself to be a genderfluid transmasc, meaning I’m sometimes a gnc woman but most of the time a very gc man, and a really interesting experience of transitioning for me has been gaining male privilege, losing that male privilege, and then gaining it again all depending on the environment. I’m now at a point in my life where I can pass if I don’t open my mouth, and that’s given me some incredible safety with things like walking alone, taking public transport, not being lured at or groped, etc; I’m the one following girls home now to make sure they get there safely, which is an odd mix of gender euphoria, guilt, and disgust at the world. At the same time, I still experience being ignored and treated as ‘hysterical’ in medical settings, I still experience dealing with misogynistic infrastructure when I need to take care of anything to do with my uterus, I still experience fear rooted in my reproductive rights being taken away, and — when I am in a space where I am nude to some extent — I can sometimes feel myself going from person to object. Hell, I’ve experienced being treated worse at the gynaecologist because of the fact I am transmasc. I — and a lot of other transmascs — experience both male privilege and misogyny, and that can sometimes make it complicated to talk about either.

This I think contrasts a lot with trans womens’ experiences of transmisogyny, which as far as I can tell from an outsider looking in passively and from listening to the transfems in my life is omnipresent from literally day 1. Transfems/trans women deal with so much shit — either directed at them, or directed at the community — literally from all angles. Trans women/transfems experience all the misogyny other women do, but also have to deal with bullshit like being assumed to be sex offenders or imposters or aggressive. It’s all the shit other women deal with without a lot of the support other women get, and stands in pretty firm contrast to the wishy-washy misogyny/privilege trans men flip-flop between.

Trans men absolutely have privilege over trans women, but I think one of the reason transmascs of any kind sometimes struggle to accept that — including me for a long time! — is that it can be hard to rectify that you can experience both. It can be hard to come to terms with the fact that you have male privilege when you’ve spent so much of your life being affected negatively by it, and when you can still so easily lose it with certain aspects of your body. I think when trans men/mascs talk about their issues what they’re really wanting to talk and be heard on is just the misogyny that comes from having a body/being a person who is or was perceived as ‘female’, and I think it’s really stupid sometimes that this is the big point that divides trans tumblr because that misogyny is really similar to just… regular misogyny. Trans women and men would literally have a big chunk of their issues resolved by the same end goal, and I really think it’s important for us to support each other — especially at a time that’s so scary in so many ways.

I really hope more trans men/mascs reflect on their male privilege and become more aware of the extent that they have it — especially online, where a lot of the misogyny trans men face isn’t very applicable — and I hope in general the online trans community becomes more understanding and empathetic of each other. Some of my closest IRL friends are trans women or transfem, and sharing our unique experiences on both side can be really cathartic, and I hope Tumblr and other online spaces in general can become more empathetic and better to each other while also realising that x experience doesn’t cancel out y experience.

I’m trying to find more info on this traditional currency of the Sámi people I see called “tjoervie” from multiple sources, but I can’t find anything explaining when it was used or what it was made from. Can anyone help me out?

This is a bad, old translation of a Sámi word as you would find it in a Western dialect. “Tjåervvie” in my dialect, and “čoarvē” in Northern Sámi. It means antler, or horn. Those are the modern renderings.

Sámi people did not have a traditional monetary system. We bartered and traded based on what was needed between individuals, which is why taxes were paid with items and not money. Reindeer antlers and pelts were important staples that were the backbone of our wardrobes, traditional arts, housing, and much more. So it would not be uncommon to see “čoarve/tjåervvie” traded commonly. Both carved and not.

But we did not have a formal currency. That talking point likely came from that University of Austin “Sámi Culture” page, which is full of wild shit and everyone has just copied and pasted it without realizing that website is full of Really Bad Information.

Thank you very much for the information, it’s upsetting to hear that UATX is just spreading blatant misinfo like that. That makes a lot of sense to me from the bits and pieces I gathered about Sámi cultures from what I read, which is why I was so surprised to see so many sites saying this was like a formal currency. I appreciate the clarification!

Yeah, the UATX page is genuinely insane and a wild read if you know a decent amount about Sámi history. It does have some interesting nicher tidbits here and there that often gets overlooked, but it’s definitely one of those resources where you need to fact-check what you’re reading. It’s — imo — honestly really unacceptable for a public academic website on an indigenous group that barely has any coverage in the English-speaking world.

I’m a Norwegian and Sámi literature and writing student who incorporates a lot of indigenous perspectives into my analysis and writing, and usually if I want to research something more niche about Sámi culture/history written by academics, I take a look at the various papers published in association with UiT (Artic University of Norway). UiT is actually in Sápmi, works pretty closely with the Norwegian Sámi parliament, and I notice a lot of the academics who specialise in Sámi culture/history there are unsurprisingly Sámi themselves.

These are academic papers, so they’re written very plainly for the most part, but most are solely written in English/translated to English, and there’s a wide variety of papers available, from peer reviewed journal articles to master theses. They have an open research archive with a search function in case you want to do some in-depth digging OP (:
