Permanent Hiatus

Hey, guys! So I’ve decided to stop rping indefinitely. It’s something I’ve thought about a lot. Honestly, I’m just too busy. I need to start working on my thesis for my master’s over the summer, and I’ve gotten a job teaching freshman composition! So I’m very excited, but I’m also very busy. 

So I might drop by every now and then, just to keep Tumblr from purging the account, but I’m pretty much done. And this way, Smash Nation can open the character for someone who does have time to devote to this and to the other rpers. 

Thank you, everyone! It’s been a lot of fun, and I really enjoyed interacting with everyone. And of course, if anyone ever wants to talk, feel free to shoot me a message.

Update: Hiatus

((Hey, guys! Just a quick update. As I’m sure many of you know, I work full-time at a university, and I’m working on getting my graduate degree. As such, I haven’t really been on much lately; it’s around that time when all the final papers and such are due. So I’m going on hiatus until finals are finished on May 7th. Just so I can focus on my schoolwork because I feel really guilty leaving everyone just kind of hanging. So thank you all so much for being so understanding and patient, and I’ll see you all again in a month!))

“Oh, sure,” Link answers. “Meeting new people is great. That’s why I enjoy it so much here, and well…I can’t see Midna anymore in my world. Actually, she’s not from my world. She lives in the world of Twilight, which is separated from Hyrule, and the only way to get there is through this mirror. Magical mirror.”

Link pauses and wonders if he’s making much sense. It sort of feels like he’s just rambling, but if anyone would understand different worlds, it would probably be Meta Knight. He has that magical cape, after all. “And I mean, there are people back home, of course,” Link says, taking a sip of his cider, “But Ordonians aren’t very comfortable with magic. Or the whole wolf thing.”

To be fair, Link hasn’t really told anyone back home, and that’s part of the problem. He doesn’t know how.

“Ah.” Meta knight states.

He’s still getting used to the whole “wolf thing” himself. He has no ill will against Link –he is a fellow swordsman after all–; he just not very good with animals.

“Visiting other worlds is kind of refreshing; a clean slate of sorts. Not everyone will understand, but you’re an adventurer; not a diplomat.”

Meta Knight has an odd expression on his face, but Link doesn’t comment on it. Maybe Meta Knight doesn’t like wolves? Or dogs? Link doesn’t take it personally, if that is the case. After all, he has plenty of fears himself, and he certainly won’t pick on anyone else for theirs.

“I suppose,” Link admits, “Though it’s for the best that I’m not a diplomat. I’m really awful with words, if I take time to think of them. I don’t know if that makes much sense, but if I don’t think before I speak, I can usually think of something clever. If I do think, I get nervous and end up stammering. That’s a little embarrassing sometimes.”

He chuckles, recalling some of the more awkward mishaps, usually involving beautiful women. Particularly Midna. “I pity Hyrule, though,” Link said, with a smile, “If they’re depending on me. It’s fortunate that we have Zelda!”

Unfortunately, Link has never been the best at ‘figuring out what to do’ scenarios. “Uh...well...”

He pauses. Toon Link is a child, right? Link is good with kids. This should really be easy to figure out. It certainly shouldn’t make him nervous. “Well, just--we could just wander around. We could hang out, unless there’s something you’d rather do!” Link adds hurriedly. “I just thought...we should, er, you know. Talk. Or something. Since we’re both heroes of Hyrule and everything.”

“Ah, Meta Knight! Well, I’ll admit that I’ve only met one undead warrior that didn’t want to eviscerate me, but I know you’re very astute and trust your judgment. Thank you!”

“Right. Because someone with the screen name evil-sealed-away really sounds like the sort of person whose advice I should take.”

“But your ‘helpful’ insight is to set someone on fire! That’s a terrible solution! Believe it or not, you can’t solve all your problems by setting people on fire. And besides, creatures with giant, single eyeballs are usually out to kill me, so it’s not like my mistrust is unfounded.”

It’s not that Link has been avoiding Toon Link. Well, actually, he has been. It isn’t that Link dislikes Toon Link; it’s just that he doesn’t know how to act around him. Technically, they’re the same person, but they’re so different, too. And Link wonders, at times, if Toon Link secretly detests him, or gets annoyed at being Toon Link, instead of just Link. 

And Link realizes a lot of that is probably all in his head, and in all likelihood, Toon Link is a lot like he was, when he was younger. That’s why Link finds himself at Toon Link’s door, with a half-thought plan. He knocks and waits.

Toon Link had been waiting to interact with “normal” Link. He looked up to a hero that seemed to be more experienced, and older at that! Toon Link really wanted to be known as a true hero, and the only way to get better would be to learn from a real hero!

…So he was surprised to answer the knocking on his door to see Link before him!

“Oh, L-Link! What are you doing here?”

“Um...well.” Such eloquent words.

Link probably should’ve thought of an excuse or something beyond I sort of feel like we ought to talk or something, since we’re kind of the same person, but not really?

That sounded really bad in his head, and he wondered if he might be overthinking it. Toon Link was, what? Ten? Definitely still a kid, and Link was good with kids. He brightened a bit at the realization. “Do you want to do something? You know--just because? We haven’t really talked.”

“I guess,” Link says. “It’s a bit odd, talking to my shadow and not having anyone answer.”

In hindsight, that sounds really odd. “I mean, Midna,” Link says. “We were…ah, traveling companions for a while. She used to hide in my shadow, when people were around. But anyway, being a knight suits you, I think. You seem to legitimately enjoy it.”

Meta knight nods, unclipping his visor and taking a drink of cider. He knows of Link’s adventure, but he’s learned most of what he knows about it from trophy information, rather than firsthand interviewing Link. This is true for most of what he knows about other Smashers, but it’s definitely not unpleasant, and he must admit he enjoys hearing about his fellow swordsmen.

“I sense that you enjoy the meeting new people aspect of adventures, then? If you must be away from home, you might as well have a reason to go back?”

“Oh, sure,” Link answers. “Meeting new people is great. That’s why I enjoy it so much here, and well...I can’t see Midna anymore in my world. Actually, she’s not from my world. He doesn’t realize it’s me, Link thought. 

The polite thing to do would be transform back and end Olimar’s search. After all, Olimar probably had many important things to do. Not everyone had the luxury of lounging around like Link did; ships had to be maintained.

But…Link did have a mischievous side–which he really blamed Midna for. Sure, he’d always been mischievous, but she was the one that really brought it out in him. 

It might be fun to play along for a bit, until Olimar figured it out or they ran into someone who did recognize Link. So Link barked in what was supposed to be a friendly manner, looked over his haunches, and indicated that Olimar ought to follow.

Olimar, again, jumped a bit from the bark, but he was getting used to it. He quickly caught on that the wolf wanted him to follow its lead. Olimar gave his whistle a tweet, though it really wasn’t necessary seeing how he only had two Pikmin in his squad. Either way, he caught their attention and began to follow the wolf’s lead. He felt like he could trust the animal. Something about it just seemed more friendly. With a shrug, he continued to follow.

Link happily led the way, internally debating on how long he was going to let the little game continue. He hadn’t quite decided, but it was just harmless fun, after all. Did it really matter? While leading Olimar, though, Link suddenly remembered something very important. Wolves didn’t have thumbs and were incapable of opening doors.

With a bemused huff, Link sat before the door of the Smash Mansion and waited for Olimar to take the hint.
