Lupita Tovar in the Spanish-language Dracula (1931). As of this posting, Tovar is still with us at 106!
Lupita Tovar on July 27, 2016 will be turning 106! To celebrate this huge milestone I’m going to be sending her a birthday card- but this is where I need your help! I’d like to gather together names, state and/or country, and short messages to be printed and included in her card. I want this to be extra special.
You can submit your messages HERE- please keep it short, if possible. Like no more than 200 characters since I don’t want to overwhelm her with super long messages. If you only want to submit your name with your state and/or country that is fine too! I will turn off submissions on July 15th and will mail off the card and messages on July 20th- giving it a week to get to her.
Feel free to reblog this post to help spread the word! I look forward to your messages and being able to honor this amazing actress on her birthday.Â

(please submit all messages to the Lupita Tovar sideblog, not my regular blog. I want the messages to be sent to one central location, thanks!)
Thanks to everyone that submitted messages. It ended up being five pages long, not too bad! I was planning on make a special photoset for her birthday yesterday but got hit by a bad head cold and haven’t been online. But the card was mailed off and if I get any reply (which I doubt but just in case) I will post it.

"The family of my father was very religious, there were priests and nuns in the family. When I came to Hollywood, Fox Studios took some stills of me and when I came back to Mexico City, we paid a visit to my aunts. Fox had filmed me in skimpy clothes. They had the photo of me on display, but they had put lace around the photograph to cover me. It was very funny." -Lupita Tovar in an interview with writer Michael G. Ankerich, 2013 {x}

Lupita Tovar photographed for Santa, 1932
Santa was the first sound film in Mexico. It was directed by Antonio Moreno, who was also popular in American as well as Mexican films. Santa was such a hit that the Mexican government issued a postage stamp featuring Tovar as Santa.
As of January 2016, Lupita Tovar is 105. Making her one of the oldest living actresses from not only the Golden Age of Hollywood but that of Mexican cinema as well.
Both mother, Lupita Tovar and daughter, Susan Kohler have films that were added to the Library of Congress’ National Film Registry. Of the twenty-five films added in 2015, two included the pair of related actresses — Drácula (1931), the Spanish language version of Dracula (1931) and Imitation of Life (1959).
