people getting mad at ao3 for rightfully being firmly against censorship and allowing dark fics that depict taboo subjects in explicit details to be on their platform is so funny to me because ao3 was created specifically to be a fuck you to capitalism and censorship. the point of ao3 is that it’s a place to host and archive any fanwork, which includes fanwork about taboo topics that are not allowed on other platforms like wattpad or fanfiction.net
the whole point of ao3 is that it’s a safe space for all fics, and that includes fics about taboo subjects
ao3 has always been firmly against censorship since the day it was created, that’s why it’s run by fans, for fans, on fans’ donations, why it’s a nonprofit organization, that’s also why it has no ads or algorithms or any of those capitalism bullshit
if you have a problem with that, go to fanfiction.net or wattpad. no one forces you to stay in the house made specifically for the (affectionate) freaks
shoutout to AO3 authors who write 100k fics for free while juggling mental illness, academic burnout, 3 jobs, and a deep-rooted need to fix fictional people.
unfortunately a lot of the corny self help advice turns out to be true but the thing is you have to come to those conclusions yourself otherwise it just sounds dismissive and dumb
im not gonna lie i kinda feel like a standard work week should be less than 40 hours even if it doesnt improve worker wellbeing in a way that makes companies more money
the writers went to all that trouble bringing Peter back from the dead but then weren’t sure what to do with him afterwards so he basically becomes the plot exposition guy BUT he’s also a pathological liar which is a very funny combination - like he’s here to explain things but also don’t trust anything he says
onwards, comrades
Imagining myself as a badass flaming skeleton helps a lot actually. Onwards, comrades
An airstrike hit the gate of the American Hospital where my mother is — dozens of Palestinians were killed.
Less than an hour ago, I was standing in that exact place. I survived by a miracle. I can’t even describe the scene inside the hospital right now.
I might not be able to go out tomorrow to get my mother’s oxygen tank, and the cost will double.
Please, the situation is catastrophic. Donate and speak about us urgently.

30 airstrikes just hit around us. The ground is shaking, the noise is unbearable. This might be the hardest night of the war.
please share and donate if you can! His mother needs your help!
did u go protest today
good evening officer
don’t tell social media if you went to protests or not(especially if you didn’t), don’t give cops an easy way to track down protesters. punk life advice
Just reblogging this. No reason.
idk who needs to hear this but if you have been putting something off bc it doesn't need to be done until the end of the month. we are almost done with the teens we are approaching the big numbers (the twenties). that date shall dawn upon you swiftly and without mercy before you know it. psa for everyone except me i got plany off time
already october. that'd freak me out if any year since 2019 had been real. luckily they haven't
Working at a library for five years and being an author for a year more is such a wild time, because I always try to predict what new content will get the most pushback and have a script or redirect ready, but it's NEVER the things I expect.
Like, we'll do a whole training to prep our Drag Storytime safely that'll go fine, and then we have to get security involved because our outside art display included photographs of beards.
I'll help make a whole setup for non-denominational December Holiday Decorations, only to have to veto the January setup because someone on staff thought HELPFUL TRENDY CRASH DIETS FOR POST-HOLIDAY WEIGHT LOSS was a fun non-denominational setup to put in the teen section.
I'll add autobiographies with the most vile, pedophillic, unsettling narratives imaginable to the archive and brace for complaints, then see patrons walk right past it to pick up a kid's book with a puppy on it and ask if it's supposed to be porn.
I guess my point is: if you're posting on Tumblr and trying to brace yourself or predict how to word your content in a way so that no one can possibly get mad at you or misinterpret the intentions... take it easy on yourself? People are weird. I cannot emphasize enough that, even in a professional environment with years of practice and training and archiving, it is impossible to gauge what will get what responses.
Be kind to yourself! Post what brings you joy!
Library Leif, out!
As a wise tumblr user once said: do not write for bad-faith readers.
This extra layer is just "who the fuck knows what they'll get mad about anyway"
I should lock the fuck in *half an hour passes* I should lock the fuck in *half an hour passes* I should lock the fuck in *half an hour passes* I should-
Here’s the opposite story, though. With apologies because I don’t have the book in front of me, so I may get some details wrong, but I read this “Irena’s Children“ by Tilar J. Mazzeo.
Irena lived in Warsaw during the Nazi occupation, and dedicated her life to rescuing Jewish children from the Ghetto, and her story is complicated in a lot of ways but - well, this story isn’t actually about Irena, per se.
It’s about a bus driver.
It’s about a day when she’s traveling across town by bus with a very young Jewish child, and partway to their destination the child looks up and asks a question - in Yiddish. and the whole bus goes quiet, because everyone knows what that means. And Irena thinks, okay, we’re going to die here today.
And she’s running through her options - all of them bad - and suddenly the bus stops, and the bus driver announces that there’s been a mechanical failure and the bus needs to return to the depot immediately. Everyone off, please.
And she stands and goes to get off the bus and the driver says - not you two. Sit down. So she sits down as everyone else leaves, because, well, what else is she going to do? the options are all still bad, at this point.
and when the bus is empty the bus driver says,
“Where do you need to go?”
And then he drives them as close to their destination as he can, and lets them off, and drives away. And Irena lives, and the kid lives, and they never cross paths again.
So a janitor got three people killed, and a bus driver saved two lives - not to mention all the other lives indirectly saved because Irena was able to continue her work.
I think about that almost every day now, to be honest.
We can’t all be Irena. I couldn’t be Irena. She was in a unique place with very specific skills and connections that let her do what she did. I am just one mentally ill librarian. I can’t be her. But - I can be the bus driver. Or I could be the janitor. Because it doesn’t matter what your job is. It doesn’t matter who you are. In a world like this, every single one of us has the opportunity to do massive harm or massive good. We can save lives or end them.
And that’s scary. but it’s also very comforting? at least for me. Because at the end of the day it means this: no matter of how small and helpless and unimportant you feel, you’re never powerless in the face of great evil.
You can choose to be the bus driver.
So I just found the most useful photo album in existence for tumblr arguments
