legend tells of a mysterious being called “nuance” that allows multiple things to be true at the same time. some say you can still hear its voice whispering in the trees
it’s okay to not be where you thought you’d be right now. you’ll get there. or if you don’t, you’ll get somewhere better.

the way i determine if someone is worth my time and worth interacting with is by asking myself this question--would an upper middle class/wealthy person engage with this individual? would they publicly associate with this person? would they cross a room to shake hands with this person? if the answer is no, then they're not getting my energy.
I feel like when it comes to strategic networking, many people spend the early stages wasting a lot of time by interacting with people who will never be able to do anything for them. since adopting this rule, I have saved so much of my precious energy by reserving it for people who are guaranteed to benefit me.
when I was younger I used to network based on potential and soon realized that it was going to take me a long time to find the people worth knowing because many people start off strong and then taper off and never fulfill their actual potential. I'm trying to avoid wasting time, sitting around, hoping that someone will blossom into a high value person. it's so much easier to just associate with people who are already there.
like rather than wasting my time networking with the people at networking events, I should just go to events where people are already established. for example, in college they would have these student, early professional events and I used to waste my time there thinking I'd meet that one special person and we'd end up having our cinematic movie friendship/career evolution--the one where we maintain contact for our entire lives and help each other up. that's cute. there's nothing necessarily wrong with that, but sometimes people don't end up anywhere near where you expected them to be in life and then you're 15 years in the future with a connection that didn't evolve into anything beneficial, just a burden at that point.
networking with people who are at the same level as me is foolish. if I want to be a lawyer, I'm not going to the pre law networking events. I'm joining legal associations and letting them know my intentions right off the bat. (and yes, I am actually doing this. I am a member of several legal associations that are intended for established professionals, but my interest in attending meetings while not even being credentialed yet, signals to them that I am serious and they respect that. I also stand out because well....how many people are moving like a lawyer without actually being one?? I'm showing an uncommon level of seriousness and it makes me stand out in a good way. I sit in on meetings, make room in schedule to attend events and ask questions when I have them. this will do wonders for me when I do get credentialed). The people you network with need to be above you. Do not waste your time with people who are at your level or below. The ROI is not guaranteed and it's a horrible way to invest your time.
you've gotta be kind to yourself no matter what
this is twice as true in the winter
the world isn't ending and you don't need to kill yourself it's literally december. it's december. and you need to be nice to yourself.
